May 1884
1st June 1884 The fans of the Beaneaters are angry at how their team has fallen behind the other teams so quickly after last seasons pennant win. The month of May was horrible to watch for the fans as the team managed only 6 wins from the 28 games played during the month. They sit rock bottom of the NL table 21.5 games behind the leaders and 9 adrift of 7th place. After the dismal start to the season the Beaneaters have suffered the owner has decided he cannot wait for the off season to make changes. He fired Manager Coy Garrison without hesitation. The team have signed Kenny Butler as his replacement. Butler has made the playoffs 4 times with the Brooklyn and Cleveland sides along with 1 MLB championship with Brooklyn. The fans hope he can find this form with the Beaneaters. The month saw a 0-4 loss on the road to the Brooklyn Atlantics to start before a 1-1 home series against the St Louis Browns bought a rare bit of sunshine to the fans. The next 2 series were bad as the team went down 0-4 at home to the Chicago White Stockings and 0-2 at home to the Pittsburgh Alleghenys. The team finally found a little form under their new manager as they went 2-2 on the road to the Philadelphia Quakers and 2-1 at home to the Cincinnati Red Stockings before slipping back again with a 1-3 loss on the road to the New York Gothams. The team finished the month how they started it with a 0-3 loss to the Brooklyn Atlantics at home before losing both road trip games to the Cincinnati Red Stockings. This month didn't see any stars for the beaneaters as their form was poor on the mound and also with the bat. Pitching Batting |
