Milwaukee (0) at Baltimore (5) in 6 innings: Tom Wilmarth (26-5.4) (1-0) over Dan Burton (30-4.9) (0-1). Wilmarth allowed 5 hits, no walks and struck out 2. At bat, he had a hit and scored a run. Burton allowed 6 hits, 2 walks and struck out 2. Rookie SS Phil Lane (25-7.4) had 2 hits and a walk, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. Brooklyn (10) at Omaha (6): John Ritch (31-7.8) (1-0) over Skyrocket Rice (21-5.2) (0-1). Ritch allowed 10 hits, 6 walks and struck out 1. In 8 innings, Rice allowed 9 hits, 6 walks and struck out 9. 3B Kid Angell (36-6.0) hit a 2-run home run and scored 3 times. Omaha made 10 errors, 7 of them by SS Ed Aldrich (22-6.8). I cannot recall anyone ever making 7 errors in a game before. He now has 9 errors in 3 games, the same number of errors as he had in 18 starts at short last season when he fielded at a very good .924 clip. So far this season, he is fielding at an even .500 rate. It is early, but Omaha is last in the Association in both fielding percentage and Defensive Efficiency. Plus they are the only team that has not thrown out a base stealer yet. Plus Lee Sprague is out. Tough times in Nebraska. Chicago (5) at Kansas City (6) in 10 innings: Dan Butler (28-4.7) (1-1) over Pony Stanley (22-6.2) (1-1). In 10 innings, Butler allowed 7 hits, 6 walks and struck out 6. Stanley allowed 9 hits, 3 walks and struck out 4. The winning run scored on a passed ball. 3B Fred Umbaugh (25-5.4) had 2 hits with a double and 2 RBIs. For the Colts, LF Patsy Roberts (32-5.5) had 3 hits with a double and a triple and an RBI. |

Pittsburgh (11) at Chicago (6): Whitey Mathews (23-4.1) (2-1) over Pete Rinehart (27-6.2) (1-2). Mathews allowed 10 hits, 2 walks and struck out 3. At bat, he had a hit and scored 2 runs. Rookie LF Freddy Horne (24-1.6) had 3 hits, scored 2 runs and had an RBI. Editor's Note: Horne has the lowest NGI score of anyone in the major leagues right now. There are 6 guys with lower scores playing in the minors. The lowest belongs to P Jimmy Richards (23-0.9) of Nashville. He is a very highly rated prospect and will probably make the majors with the next few seasons. |
