Bases loaded. One out. This is where I trust Boston's bullpen over ours.

That's why they won 97 games this year.

3 seasons in a row the bullpen kills Detroit.

That means I have taken everything from October 23 on off work to see the Smell Sox and the Feathered Bishops go at each other?
Gee, thanks.

Now, instead of a good, solid, all-Midwest Series, I have to suffer the sports media's never-ending boner for the f'n Red Sox. Hopefully, the Cards will make short work of 'em, so I don't have to suffer their B.S. for long.
Get a freakin' bullpen, Tigers. |

I'm sick of the Cardinals, so for once, I'm gonna have to root for the A.L.......

Gettin' Cabrera seamed back together should also be high on the list for next year. He's still barely moving at all.
Yeah, was rooting for the Tigers amidst the Red Sox, Rays, Rangers, Athletics, and Indians - at least as far as the AL was concerned, and once the Pirates and Dodgers were eliminated, overall. Now I'm gonna have to root for the Sox? Ouch, that's gonna be ... that's gonna ... baw, I think I'm gonna have to throw up any second.

Boston 5, Detroit 2. [Boxscore]
Summary: Inability to score destroys Tigers' playoff run. Pitching: Scherzer had a rough outing in this game, thanks to shaky control issues. With 5 walks, 4 hits, a HBP and a wild pitch, the Sox were bound to score, but amazingly, Max limited them to 1 run until he departed with runners on 1st and 2nd with one out in the 7th. The other two came courtesy of Victorino's HR off Veras. As usual, he struck out loads of batters, 8 in this session. With the loss, he finishes the post-season with a 2-1, 2.42 ERA, 1.03 WHIP record, with 34 strikeouts in 22.1 innings over 4 appearances (3 starts). Smyly came aboard with Ellsbury due up, a lefty-lefty match-up. Smyly did his job in getting a ground-ball, but a precious double-play chance was lost as Iglesias booted the ball to load the bases. Final post-season record for Smyly: 0-0, 2 Holds, 6.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, with 3 strikeouts in 3 innings, covering 6 appearances. Veras took over at that point, and the first thing he did was to serve up a grand-slam gopher ball to Victorino, sealing the victory for the Sox. He then struck out Pedroia before being pulled. He was saddled with a blown save, giving him a final record of 0-0, 1 Hold, 1 Blown Save, 3.60 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, with 9 punch-outs in 5 innings over 6 appearances. Coke was inserted to deal with the lefty Ortiz, and he accomplished the task with a ground-ball to Iglesias for the final out of the 7th inning. His record for this post-season finalizes at 0-0, 9.00 ERA, 1.00 WHIP in 1 inning over 4 appearances. Alburquerque rumbled out for the 9th, and what an inning he had as he struck out the side! His final record stands at 0-1, 2 Holds, 3.86 ERA, 1.50 WHIP, with 9 flame-outs in 4.2 innings over 7 appearances. Offense: Despite 8 hits and 3 walks, the best the Boys could manage was a measly 2 runs as 7 runners were stranded on 1-5 hitting with RISP, an issue that's plagued them all season long, and one that ultimately cost them this series. The list of notables, and remember, stats are for the entire post-season: Hunter, 1-3 (.200), an infield single to lead-off the game, and a walk (2) and run scored (5) in the 6th. He also reached base on an error by Workman in the 7th. Miggy, 1-4 (.262), a single and run scored (4) in the 6th. Martinez, 1-4 (.405), a 2-run single in the 6th to give him 5 RBI for the post-season. Jackson, 2-3 (.214), singles in the 7th and 9th innings, along with a walk (5) in the 5th. He was picked off first in the 7th inning. Iglesias, 2-4 (.231), singles in the 3rd and 7th. Defense: Errors, 1: Iglesias (2), ground-ball in the 7th. Double plays, 1: Cabrera-Fielder, 3rd inning. End of the 2013 season. |

Still stunned by Prince on the bases last night. Being slow is one thing. Being slow and stupid is quite another.

Oh, and I should note:
Conn_Chris called the series correctly, Boston in 6. Well done, Chris!
