Jon Matlock gave up 4 runs in the first 2 innings today, but settled down pitching 7 shutout innings before leaving the game after 9 with the score tied. The Phillies would score 2 against the bullpen, and with the no decision Matlock remains at 298 career wins.

4/27/1987 - Attempt Number 2
Jon Matlock got the ball again in his second attempt to pick up career win number 299. Matlock pitched well, allowing 3 runs in 8 innings while striking out 10 and walking 0.
Unfortunately our bullpen wasn't as effective as Steve Ontiveros blew a save and Andy Replogle blew the game and got the loss. The Expos are 8-8 for the season in fourth place. |

The Expos have won our last four games to improve to 12-8 for the month and are now tied with Pittsburgh atop the NL East. Our pitching has been great, while our offense is 10th in the league in runs scored.
You can't blame Dale Sveum, Don Mattingly, or Terry Pendleton though. They are carrying are offense early. |

5/1/1987 - Matlock wins 299th
The Expos were on the road in New York to take on the Mets, and Jon Matlock had his best stuff going. Matlock pitched a complete game five hit shutout today while striking out 5 and walking 0 to pick up his 299th career win.
Don Mattingly supported him with a 3 run home run as the Expos rolled 8-1 to pick up our fifth straight win. |

5/6/1987 - Attempt number 1
On the road in Atlanta Jon Matlock got the ball in attempt number 1 at his 300th career win. The Braves chased him from the game after he allowed 5 runs in 5 innings as the Braves won 6-1.
The Expos remain tied with the Pirates atop the NL East with a 15-11 record. |

The Expos went 17-11 for the month and are tied with the Mets for the NL East lead. The entire NL East is tight, with every team above .500, and within 4 games of first place.

The Expos had a bad month in June going 13-15 as we fell 2 games behind the Mets. I'll need to make a decision when it comes to the trade deadline, and whether there is a move that can help us, or whether I think things will turn around with the current roster.

The Expos went 16-10 for the month and we pulled into a tie with the Mets.
The Expos sent Tom Browning, Jon Matlock, Mark Gubicza, Mike Moore, Don Mattingly, and Dale Sveum to the All-Star game. With the little bit of success I decided to let the trading deadline come and go without making a move. We'll see soon if that was a wise decision. |

The Expos struggled in August going 12-17 for the month and we've fallen to a second place tie, 1 game behind the Mets. It's certainly been a wild year with every team within 5 games of first place.

The Expos, Pirates, and Mets are in a three way tie for first, with the Cardinals 3 games back, Phillies 4 games back, and Cubs 6 games back.
With the exception of 3 games against the Cardinals we play all our games within the division. |

The Expos have won 6 straight games and have opened up a 1 game lead over the Pirates, and a 3 game lead over the Mets.
Our next games include: 2 vs. Pirates 2 @ Mets 3 @ Phillies 3 @ Cardinals 3 vs. Cubs |

Well, here's hoping season # 10 is the winner. I think you have good odds of taking the NL East. The playoffs are going to be tight though.

The Expos went 16-11 for the month and we now lead the Mets by 1 1/2 games, the Pirates 2, and Cardinals 3 with four games left in the season.
We'll play 1 game on the road in St. Louis, and head home for 3 games against the Cubs. |

That's a good roster. If it doesn't win, it should have. Good luck!

It's weird to look at what seems like a lineup with a fair amount of pop, but see that you are 11th in HR?!?!?
In any case, KC with that 101 losses is just waiting for you... |

It wasn't pretty dropping our last two games of the season, but the Expos sneak in to the postseason where we'll take on the San Diego Padres, who went 88-74 this season. The Padres have a better offense, but the Expos do have the best pitching staff in the National League, driven by our starting rotation. We do have some holes in the bullpen, but we'll see what the series brings.
We'll be playing without two of our best outfielders, with both George Bell and Lonnie Smith out. I'm hoping for a good effort from our starting pitchers. |

Now that you mention the home runs, I never noticed that. Taking a look at a few other teams, we definitely don't have the big slugger a few other teams do. The Mets have Mark McGwire and Eric Davis, who combined for 121 home runs themselves, so we hit just 11 more than that duo. McGwire hit 68, with Eric Davis having a heck of a year with 43, and the first member of the 40-100 club, adding 116 stolen bases, 109 RBI, 139 runs scored, .378 OBP, and 9.9 WAR. Not to mention a young Barry Bonds with 17 HR, 42 SB, and 6.2 WAR. If the Mets could pitch we'd be in trouble. The Braves have Eddie Murray (43) and Pedro Guerrero (31), Cubs have Cal Ripken (34), Alvin Davis (29). The Phillies Cory Snyder (41), Leon Durham (26), and Matt Nokes (25). Danny Tartabull hit 45 for the Cards, Palmeiro (39) and Joe Carter (33) for the Padres. Will Clark (33) and Kevin Mitchell (32) for the Pirates. Strawberry hit 42 for the Giants. We were within 7 of 3 teams though, so we could have slid into 8th with a little luck. |
