2020 LCS Matchups

No way in hell did I think El Paso would be here. I was terrified of getting 4 left handed studs out of Columbus, they were, imo, the WS favorites with Philly and Tulsa.
The CL matchup should be awesome.
We'll likely see Zito twice....

GAME 1's
Chicago Iron Pigs-Jose Trujillo (1-0 3.00)
@
El Paso Diablos-Barry Zito (0-1 12.27)

The offense made Zito work (122 pitches in 5.2 IP!) but could get nothing out of it. He went 5.2-7-0-0-3-6 and 4 relievers held us off the board until Eric Coates PH triple in the 9th. Stu Gaskin's 2R HR in the 2nd was all El Paso would need. Gaskin went 3-4 with 2 RBI's. Miller and Chavez had 2 hit days.
El Paso 4 Chicago 1

Zach Hurt tossed a CG 6-hitter and the Patriot offense pounded out 11 runs on 19 hits. Castro, Quinn, Helton and Maitani all had 3 hit days with Helton and Maitani both driving in 3. The Patriots hit 2 doubles, 4 triples and 2 homers.

Chicago Iron Pigs-Stan Hall (1-0 2.70)

El Paso Diablos-Ray Anderson (1-0 0.00)

Stan Hall tied a Chicago Iron Pig post season record with 12 K's in a brilliant, and clutch, CG 3-hit shutout. Diablo SP Ray Anderson left the game after 3 scoreless innings with what appears to be an aggravated shoulder. Hall was magnificent, punching out 12 and walking just 1. George Knox broke a scoreless tie with a 2 out 2R shot in the 5th. Salinas and Collins hit solo shots.

@
Chicago Iron Pigs-Roberto Martinez (0-0 0.00)

Going on a hunch. Martinez faced this team a bunch this year and did well, well enough that I'll try and get a 3-1 lead with him on the mound.
Screw hunches...
Roberto Martinez retired exactly 1 hitter while yielding 5 hits and 2 home runs in the 1st. Andy Morgan then relieved him, giving up 3 more on a 3rd 1st inning homer and that was the game. 8-0 after 1. Morgan settled in and ended up saving the pen by going 7.2 innings, giving up 9 hits 5 runs (4 earned). What a disaster.

Philadelphia Patriots-Howard Crane (0-1 6.75)

A wild one, with leads changing hands about every inning, and a ton of offense. The final tally was 27 runs on 30 hits and 13 walks that took 10 innings to decide.
Philly jumped out 5-0 in the 1st, opening the lead to 8-0 before Tulsa got 4 in the 4th. Down 9-4, Tulsa made it 9-7 before Philly added 2 more. Trailing 11-7 Tulsa got 3 in the 7th, and then took the lead with their 8th and 9th!! homers of the game. Bernardo Montoya would help Philly find a way by drilling his 4th post season homer in the bottom half to knot the game at 12. RP Michael Mullins would walk Curt Whimster and Jorge Ortiz with 1 out, and then Rich Alfred to load the bases. Oscar Gilette then lined a full count single to left breaking the tie at 13-12. Chris Gray followed with another line drive, this time to right, that would score 2 more and put it away, 15-12, for Tulsa.

Jorge Trujillo clutched up big time. Andre Blakeway led off again with a triple, scoring on Ron Millers single in the 1st, and after Trujillo gave up a tying run in the 3rd, he locked it in, going 7-4-1-1-2-9 for the win while the offense managed to open it up.

It looked to be another night of bats, runs and offense as the game was 4-3 Tulsa after the 1st, 6-5 Philly after the 2nd. Both pens settled in and Philly too a 7-6 lead into the 9th. Michael Mullins, trying to lock it down for an exhausted Dave Gibbons, gave up a single to Roosevelt Ramsey, double to Curt Whimster, single to tie the game to Jorge Ortiz, and to the amazement of everyone, remained in the game to give up the tie breaking sac fly to Rich Alfred. Otto Hunter would come in and get the final 3 outs.

Chicago Iron Pigs-Stan Hall (2-0 1.61)
@
El Paso Diablos-Ray Anderson (1-0 0.00)

If I lose this series, I will fire someone. I have my 2 best pitchers rested, and a 3-2 lead, short of some natural disaster this team should win this series.

Hugh Collins drilled a 3 run homer in the 1st and after scaping for a run in the 2nd we had a 4-0 lead and our ace on the bump.
3 outs later it was 4-4 as Stan Hall surrendered homers to Caden Haynes and Bill Hill and a run scoring 2B to Tetsui Ishida. We'd scrap for a run in the 3rd to take a 5-4 lead and George Knox hit his 4th playoff homer in the 4th to make it 6-4. Hall would hold through 6 (6-7-4-4-2-7) and Chance Holt, Jake Ellison and Masafumi Watanabe would throw 2 scoreless innings, 1 hit 3 K's, to get the game to Ernesto Cruz. Cruz retired the side in order in the 9th to send us to our 2nd consecutive and 4th total World Series.

Tulsa Drillers-Tim Sutherland (1-0 1.13)

And I have no clue how this ones going to end, just that whichever team wins it is going to be the WS favorite. Two STACKED teams going toe to toe.

A 1-1 game after 1, stayed tied until Chris Gray plated Jorge Ortiz with a 2 out single in the 4th to put Tulsa up 2-1. Both starters were tremendous, with Tim Sutherland managing to keep it 2-1 through 8, and handed the ball to Otto Hunter who worked around a leadoff single to retire the Patriots, and end the series.

2020 World Series Game 1

If Ken Lee is even stinky, we win. Very bad, we win. But putrid and atrocious were too much to overcome.
Tulsa got a 2 run shot from Ortiz in the 1st, but Chavez answered to tie. Lee unraveled in the 2nd, giving up 4 more before being pulled.
Dave Winston was magnificent, allowing us to creep back, and get within a run before Otto Hunter got the final 3 outs.
