Some of these older ones are a bit suss. Either the files have been overwritten in the recent pack or I opted not to get them done at the time or perhaps I just plain missed them, as I’ve searched this thread before letting them pass and they haven’t appeared. So apols for any double-ups – I’ve tried to minimise them as much as possible. But the backlog makes this a longer list than usual. Oh, well, the aim is to get them all done, so I guess this moves us toward that end.

LePine looks like the only one still sitting on the list of mine. Was trying to get a better photo of him. I have some of these done already - mostly the players that had the longer careers. Will do in the morning, well, technically it's 0330 here ... so will do some more likely starting in the afternoon sometime

Hahahaha you crazy candle-burner, you. Yeah I was pretty thorough in trying to ensure no crossover, and perhaps some of those I felt suss about - Nance, for one, who was with us a couple years and I'm fairly sure the FG now in place wasn't so back then - have been overwritten, or perhaps I just wasn't my usual eagle-eyed self. Like I said earlier, lesson learned and I'll be sure just to update the recently-added FGs from here on in as we've a few different streams running at once.

Thanks for Jarrett. The Mets and the Cubs continue to battle in the bowels of the NL East. Cubs are currently on pace to go 54-108…but they're a half-game up on the Metsies. Sigh.

Meanwhile, higher up, one might have expected the dominant Expos to struggle after the free-agent departures of stars Andre Dawson (Dodgers), Ellis Valentine (Yankees) and Steve Rogers (Phillies). But they're fine: new RF Jack Clark is hitting .407 and Len Barker and Goose Gossage have strengthened the staff. (Montreal attempted a "Goose and Goo" reunion, but Terry Forster couldn't make the team and ended up a Brewer.)

But they're not quite in first. Pittsburgh, after a couple of mediocre seasons, is off to a strong start. Led not only by the usual stars (Dave Parker, George Brett) but by the unexpected (and probably unsustainable) hitting from their DP combo. Vance Law is hitting .351, but is outshone by the .386 of new 2B, John Andrew "Drew" Macauley.

In OTL, Macauley as drafted in the 2nd Round of the 1975 Secondary Draft (Golden West College) by the ChiSox, but chose not to sign. Which was a mistake, as he went undrafted upon graduation two years later. He got into the Pirates system and worked his way up to AA Buffalo by 1979, posting a .745 OPS. This earned a return ticket in 1980, and his .821 got him a look at AAA Portland.

But he proved to be a better Bison than Beaver, and found himself back in Buffalo for 1981. And the magic was gone there, too, and his final two years in western NY sent him spiraling to release.

But here the AI moved him to Portland sooner, stuck with him through a rough 1980, and was rewarded when Macauley mastered the PCL in 1981 and earned this trip to the bigs.



I'm not sure if you want to use the glasses from the last pic, since their sudden appearance may indicate that declining vision was part of the reason Macauley's career Drew to a close.

Bock Baker had a very unusual major league career. In his first game with the Cleveland Blues on April 28, 1901, he gave up 23 hits and 6 walks in a start, leading to 13 runs and a loss. He was sold to the Philadelphia Athletics on May 1, when he gave up 6 hits and 6 walks in 6 innings, leading to another 11 runs, in his only game on May 13. Herm Malloy went 0-3 in 4 games with the Tigers from 1907-8. After baseball, he fell on hard times with the local papers chronicling run-ins with the law including bootlegging, public intoxication, being founded beaten and passed out in the street. I made a Buddy Lewis facegen since I always replay the war years without the war. It's my first facegen I'm kind of ok with. Figured I would share it with you guys, feel free to download it and tinker with it yourself if you would like. PS. if anyone has a young Ted Williams I would be much-obliged =).

littlejim13, welcome to the fun of facegens Glad you are giving the program a try. It's a challenge esp. with the older photos. Be sure to convert a source photo like this to greyscale before starting to make the facegen. Sepia and other tints are very hard to get rid once you make the facegen whereas starting in grey can make it easier. There are several sliders that impact color. One is the Monster-Attractive slider in the free version (it's called something else in later paid editions) but also the race sliders and the three at the bottom of the "Color" tab and the dark/light one. Those are the ones that will tweak some of the pink in the first post and green in the second. Also, never hesitate to test drive all of the sliders to get comfortable with them.

I pulled my Buddy Lewis and the one in FancySkunk's pack. Mine is on the left and Fancy's is on the right - and I think I like how he smoothed it to make it younger better than mine. Take a look at the pack that Fancy posted on the 26th of August. Even if you don't write over your current fg's en mass, having it to pick at to fill in a missing player or improve someone that looks like they need improvement always helps.

Here's Dave Ford for you, Amazin'. Added some color to him. I think that's the first MLB'er you've ever requested!

In the first round of the 1975 amateur draft, the Baltimore Orioles chose 18-year-old right-hander Dave Ford. Blessed with an “explosive fastball” and pinpoint control, the 6-foot-4 Ford drew comparisons with Jim Palmer. Ford quickly progressed through the Orioles farm system and debuted with 15 scoreless innings in a September call-up in 1978. Hampered by elbow pain and chronic shoulder miseries in subsequent seasons, Ford won five games in his big-league career, which ended after the strike-shortened season in 1981.

Just colorized and tweaked the existing facegen as requested.

So true, but in fairness, one of the kids lived next door and kept hitting balls in his yard, so kinda hard to miss.

Steve Finch was the #2 pick of Texas in 1976, went 15-5 with a 9.1 K/9 for Asheville in 1977, but hurt his arm the next year and watched that K-rate evapo-rate like ice cream on the sidewalk. He was traded to Seattle in December of 1980 as part of the big Richie Zisk ++ for Rick Honeycutt ++ trade; five players going each way, and Finch was the only one of the 10 to not make the show.

In the sim, I took over the Rangers in Spring Training 1980 and couldn't wait to get Finch's contract off of the 40-man (needed the space) so I swapped him for a minor leaguer with Milwaukee. Steve hung in there and got a cup of coffee at the end of '81 and starts this season in the bullpen.

Presenting Steve Finch and in Ranger's garb no less... At 6'3" 160lbs, I had to widen the face in the facegen software significantly to countarct how very narrow the game wanted to make him! But those stats match bRef's so it's not a database error.

Oh, and I listed that previous minor leaguer race error for Lukas on the thread he has. The link is Post 234 if you find any others.

Kept the facegen but colored it and cleaned it up to better align with the available photos. Thanks as always to the OOTP Photopack collectors in the thread next door for many of the photos here and elsewhere that I use.

Pitcher James “Doc” McJames was a refined renaissance man during a rough-hewn era of our national pastime. The colorful and well-spoken Southern gentleman was considered to be one of the most intelligent men in baseball. McJames’ rapid if brief ascent into stardom and eventual decline took place during the late 19th and early 20th century. His career on the diamond as well as his life ended prematurely, but for a handful of seasons, Doc McJames was among the most respected pitchers in the game. - SABR bio
