Just about half of his at bats in Oakland were in '03 and '02...when Oakland was the toughest ball park to hit in.

2003, yes. In 2002 it was a very good hitters' park. Where are you getting your numbers?

On another note, they just said on the mlb.tv broadcast that Ellis is expected to be put on the DL after today's game. Add him to the list.

Yep, DL with a broken thumb. Possibly 8 weeks

At least Thomas and Crosby homered today.

Frank is looking great at the plate. And Crosby seems to be coming around, too. With Bradley swining the bat from both sides of the plate now, I don't think it'll be long before this offense gets rolling.

Yup, the same one that was a top 10 prospect of ours for a couple of years prior to being dealt and became expendable after drafting Pennington.

What do you think Swisher would be worth RIGHT NOW if he was a FA? 5M per? 10?
Part of the business, the part BB has excelled at for years. That is the whole point of drafting college kids so that we can hopefully make useful, cheap ball players out of them in a short period of time so we don't have to overpay for guys like Payton. As for Swisher's value RIGHT NOW...what does that have to do with anything?? We are getting him at a discount...good for us...so should we be trying to balance that windfall by overpaying for Payton?? Of course not.

Half of those guys aren't even remotely "defensive specialists." In fact, a couple of them are downright bad defensively.

I agree with this. At least if I was playing OOTP Payton would have been gone and one of those guys would be my 4th/5th OF.

No, but your argument that Payton makes more than both the starting corner OFers is a lot weaker when you consider that by MLB rules there is a fixed amount of money that the 2 corner OFs in question are allowed to make.

Lofton - 3.8M this year, would we still be overpaying for a 4th OF?
Roberts - SD wouldn't let him go
Johnson - Not a 4th OF, hes gettin a lot of starts with Wells and Rios.
Chavez - decent option
Freel - You're kidding right? Cincy loves him
Pena - Defensive butcher!
DaVanon - Not much better #s than Payton, and he's in the NL now.

Meh. anyways, I'm done arguing about it. Our only hope is that payton and keilty get dealt to somebody who needs outfielders (I'm looking at you, Yankees with matsui injured).

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/...or&season=2002

Then I went and checked out baseball-reference.com and the 2002 numbers are way different. Hmmm...

KENDALL GOES YARD!

The weirdest part about it is that I was just thinking about how I think he's gonna hit one soon. Weird.

I didn't see it, but I'm sure it'll be on SportsCenter tonight. Err, is this a sign of good things to come? I sure hope so.

Well, not to take a nice hit away from Kendall, but the ball cleared the 330 sign on the left field wall by about 3-4 feet. It was a line drive that just sneaked over the fence. In most of parks, that's a double.

But still, good for Jason. I just liked seeing him hit the ball hard. Hopefully that continues.
