> Why did my guy have to go to the PIRATES, jeez, > why couldn't they pass and let the Tigers pick em They're a bad team with lots of opening on the major league level, Hank. Don't be too worried about it. The Phills had those 11 losing seasons in 13 years between 1911-1923 before turning the corner in 1924 and then starting the dynasty in 1925. The opportunities are great for a ancestor. If you want to feel sorry for someone, feel sorry for me. My granpa is stuck behind: SS Jamie Kubic (.353, 14 HR, 78 RBI) 30 years old this season 2B Stephen Henry (.321, 56 BB in 330 AB) 27 years old this season Kubic is White Sox's best player and a studd - on the first two All Star teams, two Gold Gloves in the past four years, 3rd in the AL in OPS the last two years. Henry gives hints of being just good enough to block kids behind him - give him 400 plate appearances (like in 1931-32 and last season) and he's a .315+ hitter who gets on at a .370-.420 clip. The one "full" seasons he had he was pretty wretched, though. Still, we're talking about a career .303/.373/.391 hitter who was .321/.420/.433 last season. Poor Doc has a tough road ahead of him unless (i) one of these guys goes down with a bad injury, or (ii) one gets traded. Kubic is the better player, so on a level I'd love to see Doc form a double play combo with him until Kubic's washed up. But Kubic is also the SS, which is Doc's natural position... and given his BA+BB skills, he's more suited for SS than 2B. And of course Doc's idol was Flaky, so he dreams of playing SS for the Sox. So... Pirates sound less stressful to me.

Ping means a broad-flat place. Hung is not the past sentence of "Hang". it's pronounced more like "home". And I am surprised to see my uncle-grandpa ( I dont really know how to call him in English ~) is in Boston RedSox. Wondering how they gonna keep their brotherhood in the rival teams =Q |

April 1935
The Indians and White Sox both began the season on fire. Cleveland won 13 of their first 16 games, and they currently lead the AL by a half-game. Chicago won 12 of their first 16. The Yankees are on a 3-game winning streak and sit just 2 games back. The Athletics have won 8 of their last 10 and are tied with the Senators at 4 games back. The Cubs led the NL early in the month, but they have lost 7 of their last 10 games and are now a half-game behind the Braves. The Dodgers and Reds have been hot lately, but no one has been as hot as the Phillies, who started slow but have won 10 of their last 11 games. The Giants have already suffered a rash of injuries as ace Cliff Umbaugh, the reigning NL POY, injured his arm and will miss all of May. Outfielder Foglesong "Fuzz" Allen broke some ribs while diving for a ball and will not return until early July. American League-Pitcher of the Month: Curtis Molenda (PHA)! He had a record of 4-0 in 3 games started, with an ERA of 1.44. American League-Batter of the Month: Adolf "The Human Torch" Greisbach (DET)! He batted .483 in 87 AB, with 2 homers and 11 RBI. National League-Pitcher of the Month: David Wickersham (CHN)! He had a record of 4-2 in 7 games started, with an ERA of 1.80 and 1 shutouts. National League-Batter of the Month: Oscar "The Kid" Vancini (BKN)! He batted .359 in 92 AB, with 10 homers and 29 RBI. Code:

Bill "Red" Finley, SP, Senators - Red went 1-3 with a 3.30 ERA. Jimmy "The Schnozz" Ditty, CF, Yankees - Jimmy hit .297 with 15 RBI and 11 runs scored. Jeronimo Arsenault, SP, Browns - Jeronimo went 0-2 with a 10.13 ERA, but suffered an arm strain in the 3rd inning of his second start. He missed the rest of the month and should be back in late May. Peyton "Flamethrower" Arana, SP, Cardinals - Arana went 2-4 with a 4.01 ERA. William "Bill" Berry, LF, Indians - Bill hit .262 with 2 homeruns, 12 RBI and 14 runs scored. Jonathan "White Rhino" Wright, RF, Dodgers - Wright hit .447 with 11 RBI and 17 runs scored. Tequila Allen, 3B, Red Sox - Allen returned and hit .298 with 2 homeruns and 12 runs scored. Elmer "The Jeweler" Menard, SS, Pirates - Elmer hit .171 in just 41 at-bats because he missed a lot of playing time. He missed two weeks with a sore back and now he is suffering from a sore elbow. Carlos "The Colonel" Hulse, 1B, Indians - Despite hitting 20+ homeruns over each of the past 3 seasons, leading the AL in HR in 1933, finishing 2nd in HR last season and being named to both of the first two All-Star teams, Daniel Lutzke lost his first base job to Hulse this season. Hulse hit .309 with 10 RBI and 10 runs scored in April, but with no homeruns, Indians manager Ben Lafayette could be in for a lot of bad press soon. Luckily for them, Cleveland leads the AL, but this should be an interesting story to follow all season. William "Easy Out" Skjerly, SP, Browns - After pitching just 1 inning in the majors last season, Skjerly has finally found a home in St. Louis. He began the season in the bullpen but was quickly moved to the rotation. He went 2-3 with a 7.24 ERA in 8 games (5 starts). Jonny "Speedy" Perly, SS, Dodgers - Speedy has been named the everyday SS this season. He hit .325 with 8 runs scored and 8 steals in April. Bud Moore, C, Tigers - Bud played in 3 games for Detroit before injuring his hamstring. He will be out until mid-May. The first (and only) hit of his career came on April 12th against the White Sox. Herman "Dunk" Dunkel, C, Cardinals - Dunk started 7 games this month, 4 behind the plate and 3 at SS, a unique combination to be sure, but it speaks of his athleticism. He hit .292 (7 for 24) with a homeruns and 4 RBI. His first career hit came on April 7th against the Reds' #1 starter Brett Smith. His first career homerun came on the 18th against Chicago's Max Baxter. Gordon "Scotty" McCarthy, 1B, White Sox - Scotty hit .276 with 5 homeruns and 19 RBI in his AAA debut. John "Lucky" Ryan, 2B, Reds - Lucky appeared in 8 games, going 1-for-11. His first career hit came on April 22nd off the Braves' Babe Goodrum. Chi "The Light" Hung, 3B, Yankees - On April 17th, Chi was miraculously traded to the Yankees and will now be teammates with his brother Ping! He started 9 games between Boston and New York this month, all of them as a catcher. He hit .385 (10 for 26) with 4 RBI, but was sent to the minors by the end of April. He hit .375 in 4 AAA games. Kyle "Knuckleball" Stevens, SP, Pirates - Stevens pitched 7 games for the Pirates this month, six in relief and one start on April 28th. He went 0-1 with 1 save and a 5.06 ERA. He allowed 5 runs in 6 1/3 innings against the Braves in his first start. |

Boeken continues to hit well. He set a team record for doubles last year, driving in 100. He's sure to have lots more of those as the guys in front of him get on base. Go Senators!

Can you do a mini "Miller Watch" each month until he breaks the milestones? Along the lines of where he is for the season and career for each of the three, and if he had an injury or anything that might impact his chase of them. It may be a long time until TWB has someone chasing a trio of milestones like that in one season again. With the .309 BA, it iounds like maybe 25/81 or 21/68 or 17/55. The last one looks a little low for 11 RBI and 12 runs... possibly the middle one as well. Assuming it's 25, he looks like: 25 hits for 1935 3885 hits for career 115 hits needed for 4000 12 runs for 1935 1935 runs for career 65 hits needed for 4000 8 hits for 1935 879 hits for career 21 hits needed for 4000 Through 25 games, he's on pace for 154 hits, 74 runs and 49 SB. SB seems like a lock baring an major injuries. His pace would get him to 4,000 hits, but not with a massive margin if he either (i) takes a few injuries, or (ii) slides to 1933 form or worse. He's actually behind the pace he needs for 2000 runs, which has to be disappointing considering the White Sox are playing well (and probably over their head) at the moment. It's going to be an interesting chase. Let's hope he stays healthy. BTW - where is Miller's decendant to enjoy this? Someone want to send him a PM? John "Dear Mr. Miller III - your grandfather is about to break some major milestones. Wake up!"

May 1935
The Indians went 17-10 and increased their lead to 4 games. The White Sox slumped back to 4th, and the Yankees took over 2nd place, going 15-12 in May. Washington went 15-11 to move into 3rd. The Browns went just 14-14, but they received a boost from 26-year-old pitcher Lewis Lamson who threw a No-Hitter against Cleveland on May 18th. After going 11-10 with a 5.55 ERA in his first season as a starter in 1934, he is currently 7-4 with a 2.12 ERA and was named the AL POTM for May. He is exceeding all expectations that the franchise had for him when he was first signed in 1930. Now the team has very high hopes for him and believes he and Gerald Saxton can be the foundation for a dominant pitching staff like the one that took the Phillies to so many World Series. Those two starters, along with Jeronimo Arsenault, Neil Trusheim and David Cubit are all aged 27 or younger. The Braves went 17-11 to remain in first place. The Cubs went 13-13 and slid to 3rd place, allowing the Dodgers to move up to 2nd. Pittsburgh has been a big surprise. They went 16-13 and moved up to 4th place. Cries that the end is near for the Phillies are growing louder. The big news in the NL came on May 26th when the Reds hosted the Pirates for the first night game in baseball history. It was a battle of aces as the Pirates' William O'Neill defeated Cincinnati's Brett Smith 5-1 before a Crosley Field crowd of 30,122. Cincinnati outfielder Brooks Cain set a record by drawing 5 walks in a single game. Amazingly, that same record was actually set in 1935 IRL. American League-Pitcher of the Month: Lewis Lamson (SLA)! He had a record of 6-2 in 8 games started, with an ERA of 1.95 and 2 shutouts. American League-Batter of the Month: Blake "Hitman" Crocitto (WSH)! He batted .447 in 94 AB, with 2 homers and 19 RBI. National League-Pitcher of the Month: Max Baxter (BKN)! He had a record of 6-1 in 7 games started, with an ERA of 2.76. National League-Batter of the Month: Jonathan "White Rhino" Wright (BKN)! He batted .417 in 96 AB, with 3 homers and 12 RBI. Code:

Washington Senators 27-23, 3rd, 5.5 GB On the Season: .327, 50 H, 26 R, 14 SB On Pace For: 154 H, 80 R, 43 SB 3910 Hits - Needs 90 (140 total) for 4000 (Pace: 4014) 1949 Runs - Needs 51 (77 Total) for 2000 (Pace: 2003) 885 SB - Needs 15 (29 Total) for 900 (Pace: 914) **His H and SB pace slowed, while his R pace got slightly better. However, he was sent to the bench in favor of new first baseman Dan Troge, who was acquired from the Cubs this month. His addition moved 1B Sam Kass back to his natural CF. That forced Wolter Tjeenk-Willink over from CF to LF. Depending on how much playing time he gets now, these milestones could be in jeopardy. |

Sounds like Willie is off to a slow start this year. Sofmore slump maybe. I guess its still early in the season. At least got to dip his toe into the pool. Hopefully a little more development this year will make his next call up a little more meaningful. |

What the heck is going on with Senators management? Don't these guys know what's going on! ![]() Will had a good month hitting .357. An odd time to be sent to the bench. June 1935
The White Sox went 20-5 and surged into first place before losing their final three games of the month and sliding a half-game behind Cleveland. The Yankees went 14-13, baffling those who thought they outclassed the rest of the AL. Adding salt to the wound, New York lost starting pitcher Art Booth until late July with an arm injury. Their top relief pitcher, Ron Simms, already missed all of June. Boston went 15-11 and remained on top of the NL. However, Brooklyn went 18-10, creeping to within a half-game of the lead. The NL has been so evenly matched that outside of the Braves and Dodgers, the rest of the league is hovering around .500, separated by only 5.5 games. The Cubs went 10-17, falling 9 games back. They have the 3rd best pitching staff in the majors, but their offense has struggled. Those problems have been compounded by the recent losses of third baseman David "Pops" McAuliffe, who should return in mid-July, and centerfielder Dave "Red Fox" Arkless, who is due back around July 8th. American League-Pitcher of the Month: Ken "Stuffy" Zinn (CHA)! He had a record of 6-1 in 7 games started, with an ERA of 2.66. American League-Batter of the Month: Salvatore "The Sicilian Saucer" Rossi (PHA)! He batted .396 in 96 AB, with 4 homers and 20 RBI. National League-Pitcher of the Month: Otto "Kaiser" Kahle (BSN)! He had a record of 4-1 in 6 games started, with an ERA of 1.52 and 1 shutouts. National League-Batter of the Month: Jonathan "White Rhino" Wright (BKN)! He batted .448 in 96 AB, with 4 homers and 18 RBI. Code:
