The Charlotte Hornets are in for a short 2 game set. They won 2 of 3 at Richmond over the weekend, giving us a hand, and I hope they continue being nice to us. The game was rained out yesterday and we both had off days scheduled for today, so the Hornets stuck around to play the game today. We scheduled it early, so they could get away quicker. Editor's Note: I did this manually, as OOTP rescheduled the game in Charlotte. By the way, it is fine to reschedule games during the season manually and it causes no problems, but any edits you make will carry over to next season, so you need to import a new schedule in the preseason. Charlotte Hornets (50-50 .500 10 GB in 6th place in the Southern Division) at Jacksonville Jays (60-40 .600 2.5 GA in 1st place in the Southern Division) CHAR: Charlie Foltz (31-R) (5-4 3.05 ERA 150.2 IP, 123 H, 11 HR, 61 BB, 94 SO) All-Star(2: 01,05) JAX: Al Calice (24-R) (8-7 4.23 ERA 127.2 IP, 138 H, 11 HR, 43 BB, 85 SO) Thanks to the rainout, we have to face Foltz, their #1 starter, instead of their #5... He beat us with a CG in the 2nd game of the season, giving us 1 run on 8 hits and 1 walk with 8 strikeouts. Calice gave up 4 runs on 8 hits, 1 home run and 2 walks with 5 strikeouts in 7 innings last time out, but managed to pick up a win at Hartford. PH Danny Pakan (29-L), batting .365 with 17 RBI in 148 AB is sent up. He is batting .478 against lefties, so we leave Calice in there... Won - 4 to 2 We had 9 hits and made no errors Charlotte had 7 hits and made 1 error Al Calice (W 9-7) went 7 innings, allowed 2 runs, 6 hits, 3 walks and struck out 2. He now leads the team in wins. The Buffalo Bombers are here to play 4 games through the weekend and finish up our season series with them. They split a pair of games in Providence on Monday and Tuesday. We won 3 of 4 games in Buffalo, May 9-12. We made a couple of changes to start the new month. C Don Kern (28-R) and CF Gary McKellar (35-R) were sent to Daytona Beach (A). I did not expect Kern to hit a lot, but I thought he would be passable with his good defense and drawing some walks. But his defense has not been all that great this year and his hitting is nonexistent. He was kept out of Spring Training over Bert Swope (33-S), because Swope has never hit lefties a lick and we need a platoon partner with Bob Hutson who can hit lefties. Well, Swope is hitting lefties for Daytona Beach. Actually, he is hitting everybody. .338/.420/.409 in 154 AB with 0 HR and 19 RBI. He's 11 for 23 (.478) against lefties, so we will give him one more shot to hit lefties up here. He cannot hit much worse than Kern has... McKellar is going down just because we are not using him much; he has done fine when we have called on him. But we need to make room for RF Tommy Adams (23-L). He's hitting .326/.401/.454 in 337 AB with 5 HR and 19 SB for the Admirals. He does not have the power that Fernando Tello has, but he plays better defense and will get on base more (hopefully). It will also allow us to move Cal Doty back to the #3 hole against righties. And Adams should not ground into all the double plays that Tello has.... We are in Birmingham to play the Barons a 3 game series. They split 4 games at home with Columbus over the weekend. We are back home to play the Orlando Juice at 3 game series over the weekend. They just swept the Hornets in 3 games at Charlotte and have won 6 in a row. We are 3-3 against them on the season and split a pair of games the first time they visited, June 7-8. They have passed us and are now 7th in scoring with 4.13 runs per game (Jacksonville is #8 with 4.09). We have both scored 442 runs, but we have played one more game. The Juice are 11th in fewest runs allowed with 4.11 per game (Jacksonville is #2 with 3.49). Their run differential is +2, 6th best in the MLB, and ours is +65, 4th best. Orlando Juice (57-50 .533 7.5 GB in 4th place in the Southern Division) at Jacksonville Jays (65-43 .602 2 GA in 1st place in the Southern Division) ORL: Clark Davis (27-R) (4-5 4.38 ERA 84.1 IP, 97 H, 9 HR, 26 BB, 59 SO) All-Star(04) JAX: Ernesto Noyola (26-R) (8-3 3.53 ERA 94.1 IP, 89 H, 7 HR, 26 BB, 57 SO) Davis is their #1 starter. He missed the 1st 2 months of the season. We beat him in June, in his 3rd start of the year, scoring 6 runs on 6 hits, 1 home run and 2 walks with 1 strikeout in 2.2 innings. Noyola gave up 2 runs on 6 hits and 1 walk with 3 strikeouts in 7.1 innings last time out in a win over Buffalo.
