Louis Drucke
Drucke pitched 24 innings in 1909, with an ERA of 2.25 and a record of 2-1. He was 20 years old at the time. The next year, he had a record of 12-10 with an ERA of 2.47. His career went rapidly downhill after that. He suffered an arm injury in a subway accident and he never pitched well again. He later served in the US Army in World War I, then returned to Texas to live as a cotton farmer.
I had done this facegen previously so no before picture. Zaz looks nice. Late here - been organizing all my facegens from before I started posting, so am late signing on. I'll get Rip to you tomorrow, luckymann and also for Amazin'. G'night! |

Rip Hagerman
Rip Hagerman, born Zerah Zequiel Hagerman, was the first American player to appear in the Cuban Winter League before making it to the majors. He went 15-6 in the 1909 season to tie Jose Mendez for the best record in the CWL shortly before his debut in The Show. - bRef Bullpen wiki
This was tough. The older photo, while a straight on shot, didn't produce good results, so I rotated the one of his younger self and used that. Had to use a texture pack on it too. Not crazy about it but best I can do. |

Fred C Smith
Fred Smith went 19-13 in his only season in the major leagues, pitching for the Toledo Maumees of the American Association in 1890. The reasons for his unexpected departure from baseball, as noted in an article in 1957's Baseball Digest, "have faded into the mists of antiquity".

Harlin Pool
At 26 years of age, Harlin Pool broke into the big leagues with the Cincinnati Reds. He played leftfield and for two years before returning to the minors.

Ron D Jackson
Ron Jackson, a.k.a. "Papa Jack", bounced around the Major Leagues from 1975-1984 with the Angels, the Minnesota Twins, the Detroit Tigers, and the Baltimore Orioles. All told, he compiled a .259 batting average with 56 home runs and 342 RBI in 926 games during his 10-year career. To me, however, he'll always be the hitting coach of the 2004 WS Champion Red Sox.
Had this facegen already and had done it within the past year so no before picture. Last edited by LansdowneSt; 11-09-2021 at 01:32 AM. Reason: The old one I did looked a little too orange in the cheeks. This one is less so. |

And we've rebounded, scoring 38 runs in winning our last 3. Meanwhile Rick Reuschel shut out the Mets, allowing the Cubs to escape the cellar for the first time in forever. Only for a day, but still. The Mets' struggles go deeper; Dave Jensen strained his rotator cuff and will be out until at least September. Which puts more responsibility on the Mets' other rookie starter, Mark Jarrett: In OTL, Jarrett was the Athletics' #2 pick in the January 1981 re-entry draft (Riverside CC). He put up 14 wins at Madison in 1982 and 14 more at Modesto in '83, but his strikeout rate was too low, and they dumped him on the Mariners. Seattle tried to make him a reliever, but his K/9 kept shrinking, so they just dumped him. It's been a struggle for Jarrett so far, but of course it's early days yet. (Doc Gooden got bombed off the mound by the Cubs in his 2nd start.) So hang in there, Mark. And don't hurt your rotator cuff! (Sorry about the shadows.) |

Mark Jarrett
Here's Mark Jarrett in Oakland garb to look closer to the picture. I smoothed him out quite a bit to lose the shadows and he's kept his light mustache (more overt on the sides than straight under the nose). He's like an eighth-grader that's never seen a razor...

Delos Drake
Del’s interest in baseball was greatly influenced by his father. William Drake owned a local semipro baseball team, the Findlay Sluggers, and Del was the team’s batboy. The outstanding black baseball player Grant “Home Run” Johnson played on the Sluggers in 1893 and 1894. Del and Grant became lifelong friends. Del developed a reputation as a baseball phenom at an early age but only played one year in the Majors and two in Federal League. In his only season with the Tigers, he made a lasting mark on the game. Bill James maintains that the regular use by manager Hughie Jennings of Del against left-handed pitchers and of Davy Jones against right-handed pitchers in 1911 was the first documented case of platooning during the regular season in the major leagues. - SABR
I had no facegen so made this one from the picture his SABR bio. |

Fred Scherman
In 1971, Fred Scherman emerged as the closer under the Tiger's new manager Billy Martin. Martin said of Scherman: "He's our No. 1 man in the extremely difficult situations. Fred has everything a good relief pitcher needs. He warms up fast. He throws strikes. He has all the pitches. When he throws hard, he usually makes the batter hit the ball on the ground and he seems to be tireless." By early June, he had appeared in 26 of the Tigers' 50 games and had a 4-0 record and 1.92 ERA. For the full season, Scherman compiled an 11-6 record with a 2.71 ERA.
As a short reliever, he relied heavily on his fastball which was his main pitch. He recalled: "I played three years for Billy Martin and if you got beat on your second best pitch he flipped out, I mean he just went bananas. You don't get beat on your second best pitch, so pretty much it was, 'Here it comes, it's me and you, let's see who's better." Kept the facegen but tried to get the in-game color better. Tougher than it looks as there is uneven yellow/green distribution in the original |

Ralph McLeod
"My next-door neighbor was Fred Doe, a grumpy old guy [and two game veteran of the 1890 Player's League]. I hardly ever spoke to him, he was always puttering around the yard. If I ever hit the ball over in his yard, he yelled at me. I never thought he thought much of me. I was having quite a year in high school. He asked me if I ever thought of professional ball. He said, “Well, I have a few contacts with the Braves.” I was shaking in my boots. He asked me, “How would you like to go over and meet a few of the Braves?” The Braves took me in and tried me out for three or four days. This was when Babe Ruth was playing with the Braves. I had my picture taken with Ruth and Joe Dugan. On Mr. Doe’s recommendation the Braves signed me, but from what I understand they didn’t think I was going to make it, but as a favor to Mr. Doe, they took me in."
In 1938, 21-year old Ralph McLeod played six games for the local Boston Braves, and thus, officially "making it". He went on to serve in WWII and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he played around Europe and then returned to his hometown of Quincy, Massachusetts, serving as a firefighter and by all accounts, having a wonderful life. Kept the facegen and colored/tweaked it. Shown are his 1935 N. Quincy, MA Baseball Team yearbook pic, his bRef pic and his obituary picture. The last one seemingly the basis for the original facegen. Mike Goodfellow
Mike Goodfellow played right field for the 1888 Cleveland Blues. He was said to have a "piratical cast of countenance, given him by the fierce black moustache he wears". - bRef Bullpen wiki
Redid the facegen. Doesn't quite do justice to the twirls at the end of the mustache (and the smoothing out of the shadows lightened it a bit) but better than what I had in my folder... |

Glenn Chapman
Glenn Chapman played one season in the majors, seeing action in 67 games in the outfield and at second base for the 1934 Brooklyn Dodgers. The Dodgers were managed by Casey Stengel, in his first year as a major league manager, and since Chapman had come from Indianapolis of the American Association, it is likely that Stengel, a former American Association manager, knew Chapman's work. Chapman hit .280/.330/.387 as a backup on a team that hit .281. - bRef Bullpen wiki
The facegen I had was done from a sepia picture. I took the same pic, grayscaled it and started over. |
