Anyway, I never made any Yogi's because Topps made a bunch of them - at least one each year from '52 to '64. That being said, I'll probably make one of a young Yogi in the Forties, before Topps was making Yogi's, before I'm through doing this. I've attached a few of my favorite Yogi photos. As far as Ditmar, Topps also made a bunch of him so there was no need to make any of him either. However, I did find one picture of him that I thought was especially card-worthy so I colored it and made a card out of it. I'll post that and some other Ditmar's that I have, as well. Other Browns Options (Pete Appleton)
Pete Appleton pitched for the Browns in 1942 and 1945.
From his SABR bio: Although the 38-year old pitcher was well beyond exposure to the military draft, Pete Appleton then enlisted in the United States Navy, accepting an officer’s commission in November 1942. Like many big leaguers, his military service in World War II consisted mainly of playing baseball on States-side armed forces teams, first with the Navy Pre-Flight nine at Chapel Hill, North Carolina (where Pete also entertained staff and cadets with his musical talents), and thereafter at Naval Air StationQuonset Pointin Rhode Island. On July 3, 1945, Lieutenant JG Peter W. Appleton, now age 41, was honorably discharged from duty. Still reserved to St. Louis, Pete thereupon reported to the Browns. After being hit hard in two relief outings, Appleton was released. Determined to continue his playing career, Appleton then signed with Washington, where one final major-league thrill awaited. On September 8, 1945, he took the mound at Griffith Stadium before President Harry S. Truman, cabinet officials, and more than 20,000 fans and threw a five-hit complete game at the Browns, winning 4-1. Pete Appleton | SABR So much for honoring our veterans I suppose. He returned from the Navy in 1945, had a couple of rough outings and was released. |

Other Browns Options (Johnny Berardino)
Johnny Berardino was a 2B-SS for the Browns from 1939-42, served 3 years in the military in WW II, and returned to the Browns for 1946 & 1947. He later returned to the Browns for one year in 1951. Of course many know him as Dr. Hardy from his many years on the daytime soap opera, General Hospital.

Other Browns options (Jack Kramer)
Jack Kramer was a pitcher with the Browns from 1939-41, spent most of two years in the service, and returned full time with the Browns from 1944-47.
From his SABR Bio: With World War II on in full force, Kramer spent 1942 working as a shipfitter at the Delta Shipyard in New Orleans where he was able to pitch an occasional Sunday semipro game. Then he enlisted in the Navy in January 1943 and volunteered for the rigorous Seabee training at Camp Peary near Williamsburg, Virginia. His sinuses, which had first been a problem in Toledo in 1940, kicked up with all the plunging in and out of water in Virginia’s marshlands that was required of him, landing him in the post hospital. After a month’s stay there the Navy gave him an honorable discharge on May 14 and he headed home to New Orleans to further recuperate. Jack Kramer | SABR Photo dated 1944 |
