I'm mostly with you guys, I don't think Crow-Armstrong is a huge loss, but Baez doesn't pitch and Williams is already in Syracuse.
And as I'm typing this, Banda has put guys on 2nd and 3rd in the 9th with no outs. I suppose Carrasco was reassuring but I didn't actually see him pitch. Seems like a pretty short leash but I suppose either that will improve (fast) or it won't matter. Especially since deGrom certainly sounds like toast for the rest of the season at least. And there's the two run bomb.

Yeah, "September at best" isn't exactly great news for Jake, or the team.
After having India hit his first pitch halfway to Pakistan, Carrasco's next 57 pitches were great. Of course, pulling him after 58 pitches doesn't exactly scream "ready", but maybe he'll be going six before the end of August. I'd certainly rather have Carrasco than Trevor Williams (who was NOT happy to get sent down) but what does it say that you ended up with ZERO pitchers good enough for the big club? Other than "yikes"? And then Zack Scott was on the broadcast saying "you're not going to replace Jacob deGrom", as if we're too stupid to comprehend that there's an entire league of pitchers who might not be Jake-level…but who are better than Stocky Robert Stock. Sheesh. Amazing that we have 12 arms in the pen (or whatever) and we end up trusting the 9th inning of a close game to…Anthony Banda. In his 2nd inning of work. Which Rojas actually planned on, working the double-switch to get Banda out of the 9-hole. Yes, yes, save the arms…but you could do that by not showing up and taking the forfeit, too. At some point you might want to actually TRY to win the game. Just saying. I do want to say that I know Baez is a great fielder and a skilled baserunner. But still. I just hope that, rather than Nimmo having to give #9 (Baez's preferred number) off of his back, Rojas has the class to offer Baez #19 off of his own back. Because, let's face it, he might not need it much longer, anyway. Great Moments in Broadcasting: bottom of the 8th inning, and McCann, double-switched into the 9-spot, singles with one out. First Met to reach base after 15 straight retired. Keith says that this is great because now Alonso will hit this inning. Somehow missing that there are only 2 outs left in the inning, and Pete is still 3 batters away. (Nimmo, McNeil and then Pete). Sheesh. Gary "corrects" him…but only by telling Keith a double-play is possible. Double-Sheesh. (Nimmo walks, McNeil hits a loud foul but then pops up, Pete hits into a force play. So much for that "rally".) Oh, and the less said about the return of the quasi-racist black uniforms, the better. Did Charlie "Back of the Truck" Samuels break out of prison, or something? (Yes, yes, it's extremely unlikely that Samuels went to prison to begin with. But let me dream…) Last edited by Amazin69; 08-01-2021 at 12:57 PM. |

Wow, on two counts:
1) What could possibly be wrong with his arm that was not evident before, and 2) The Mets had no inkling of it when they drafted him?

The Mets are just a dumb franchise, stupid through and through. The arm is likely what made him drop to #10 in the first place. Only the Mets didn't get it, as usual.

Why can't I ever root for a team that's run like a competent franchise? Why am I cursed to forever cheer for loser franchises?

I knew NY sports were meant for me when I decided to adopt the Jets as my new concussionball team when I arrived in town. Leon Hess announced he was hiring Rich Kotite to coach because he wanted to "win now" {read in Cryptkeeper rasp} and they won. A whole game. The Mets are like a combination of a cult, a telenovela, and an improv comedy troupe. It's an addictive mix!

I was completely unsurprised when I discovered your fictional project had led you down the blue and orange path!

Meanwhile, this was a shockingly inept L. Off to the fishtank then, where nothing good ever happens to the Mets (kinda like the Raccoons an San Francisco or Boston...). Sigh.

Kumar Rocker goes unsigned. Mets essentially punted the draft.
Bad day to be a Mets fan, and it'll be a bad month when the Mets fall out of first before my birthday. Should have done nothing at the deadline and just punted the season like I had predicted they would. A failure to clean house after this season should be looked at as the acceptance of incompetence and mediocrity, and we as fans deserve so much better. Fire Rojas, fire Sandy, fire Zack Scott, let someone else massively overpay for the automatic outs that are Conforto and Baez (you know they will, even with how much of a disaster Conforto's been). While we're at it, fire the entire medical staff. It's like Dr. Death Ray Ramirez never left. Last edited by Magus978; 08-01-2021 at 08:27 PM. |

I. The Mets cannot score runs.
II. The Mets cannot stop their opponents from scoring runs. I don't want to jump to conclusions, but this doesn't look like a good combination. Quote:
With two outs. And the bases loaded. On four pitches. At one point, Mets "pitching" had gone to three-ball counts on 11 out of the previous 12 Cincy hitters. Are you sh*tting me? Quote:

At least Jesse Winker is continuing his relationship with the Mets left-field fans. Fun to see players and fans be able to interact without it turning ugly.

If there's ever a good day to go to the office and be drunk already, it's today.
Unfortunately, I'm a teetotaler. Man, I can't get a break, huh??

Party's over for Tylor Megill. Pretty much guaranteed that the Mets will drop out of 1st place in the next 7-14 days, and they'll never see it again this season.
Clean house yesterday. |
