From the 82 West Germany/Austria group game, to the Koreans "interesting" run to the semi-finals in 2002, FIFA IMO will do whatever it takes to get the most money out of the game. And the big teams bring more people to watch the game, unfortunately. Australia in the later rounds will get less viewers than Italy - it's as simple as that to the marketers at FIFA and the TV companies.
Expect Brazil to get decisions against Ghana tomorrow if they're struggling.

Chris Waddle by the way is going on a major rant about this - he's about to explode I think.
Sorry..didnt mean to question you..u have forgotten more about this bleeping game then I will ever know...

reaction from fm players over the match

That wasn't a penalty..
This WC sucks..
And they will let win Germany anyhow, don't worry..

Oh yes now tell me why italy played in 10 half of the game ...

Lee Murray (G10)

Not a red card, but not a pen. Just hope the ref wasn't trying to equal out the decisions. This happens all the time in World Cups- when awful decisions go against you-Australia have just had a taste of it and although its a bitter pill to swallow, they will get over it and come back again.

Oh man,
Aussie here, we're devastated and shocked on the way we lost! Not sure if Materazzi should have been shown the red, but a definite yellow it would have been though.
But I gotta say it wasn't really a penalty, even though at first sight it looked like it was. Neil couldn't do anything about it and the striker fell over him. What a cruel way to lose, but I'm gonna take my hat off to the Socceroos cause they really defied some odds and proved to the globe that Australians can play the sport.
Hopefully the youngies (not me, I'm a little old now, 19yrs old) can really start taking up the sport and dream of playing in the FIFA WC and hopefully Australia can create another great generation of players...I'm prepared to wait.

I don't get why everyone is still blaming the refs. I don't think the refs "decided" this game, atleast not with that final call. That should have been a PK for Italy, there was no reason for the Aussies to slide tackle there, atleast not in that fashion. Sticking his foot out to impede on the progress would have done just as much.
