There were quite a few fans in Oz wearing half-and-half Aussie/Italy shirts to show their split loyalties

reaction from fm players over the match
AuthorTopic Jasper Van Der lugt (G30)Posted - 26 Jun 2006 17:53 That wasn't a penalty.. This WC sucks.. And they will let win Germany anyhow, don't worry.. Roberto Berneri (G9)Posted - 26 Jun 2006 17:54 Oh yes now tell me why italy played in 10 half of the game ... Lee Murray (G10)Posted - 26 Jun 2006 17:57 Not a red card, but not a pen. Just hope the ref wasn't trying to equal out the decisions. This happens all the time in World Cups- when awful decisions go against you-Australia have just had a taste of it and although its a bitter pill to swallow, they will get over it and come back again. Lyndon Monteiro (G11)Posted - 26 Jun 2006 18:3 Oh man, Aussie here, we're devastated and shocked on the way we lost! Not sure if Materazzi should have been shown the red, but a definite yellow it would have been though. But I gotta say it wasn't really a penalty, even though at first sight it looked like it was. Neil couldn't do anything about it and the striker fell over him. What a cruel way to lose, but I'm gonna take my hat off to the Socceroos cause they really defied some odds and proved to the globe that Australians can play the sport. Hopefully the youngies (not me, I'm a little old now, 19yrs old) can really start taking up the sport and dream of playing in the FIFA WC and hopefully Australia can create another great generation of players...I'm prepared to wait. Edited on 26/06/2006 18:07:22 Roberto Berneri (G9)Posted - 26 Jun 2006 18:4 Man, Aussie guys played an awesome match , awesome group playn ... just they missed to build something with their ball possession. |

I don't get why everyone is still blaming the refs. I don't think the refs "decided" this game, atleast not with that final call. That should have been a PK for Italy, there was no reason for the Aussies to slide tackle there, atleast not in that fashion. Sticking his foot out to impede on the progress would have done just as much.
