Mets acquire Rich Hill from the Rays for Tommy Hunter and 2020 fourth-rounder Matt Dyer.

I like the home run horse. I wish they'd horse around more often!

Then again, whenever Mets players horse around, they break a foot while already on the DL (Peterson...)

Pretty solid today too, the literal embodiment of "one team's trash is another team's treasure". I was at the game today, like Bartolo he starts moseying off the field as soon as a ball is hit that will be the 3rd out.

Now hopefully the Mets' "medical" staff doesn't put him on the usual regimen of Hamstringmeltor ans Obliquiblivion.

If you're that old, you can't know how much time you have left, so I approve in general, but question the wiseness of it in general given the ability of the Mets to play any comfy pop into a 5-run triple.

Oh, he'll learn, but I prefer that to pointing at a homer as if it's a pop up like a certain other pitcher you love does.

I think if they can manage to get somebody healthy to act as the 3-4 starter they can live with Hill as the 5th. And if they keep running out Eickhoffs in games against division rivals it won't matter. It's pretty telling when a guy walks away as an FA because he doesn't want to go back to Syracuse and ends up starting a few days later. I didn't even realize they had him back on the team.

They said Eickhoff was DFA'ed and elected free agency and was brought back - TWICE --- THIS MONTH.

I hope the third time will be the charm. He had a deer-in-the-headlights look, and I wish him the best sorting himself out... in Taiwan or so.

Time for the Barves to get outta town. I've seen enough terror by Chipper Riley in this series (8-for-18, 4 HR, 10 RBI).

This team is at a crossroads IMO. I don't care that they're still in first place. They won't be if they do nothing at the deadline, because this team as constructed will not be able to hang on to the end. One or two injuries and it's back to digging into the likes of Jerad Eickhoff and Robert Stock for the umpteenth time. Have we not seen enough of this trash?

Acquire some reinforcements, or punt and see ya in 2022. Really that simple from my perspective. Do you want to win, or do you not want to win?

Make something happen in the next 24+ hours, or the season will eventually be lost. Do nothing at your own peril.

Well, that was pathetic. Only one RiSP after Pete's bpmb. And WTF was Rojas thinking, letting Walker hit w. 2 on, 2 out in the bottom of the fourth? He needed more innings? Walker was clearly shot, and went back out and proved it. Ay, carramba!

Our current rotation:

1. Marcus Stroman
2. Tylor "AAmazin" Megill
3. All-Star Taijuan "Bombs Away!" Walker
4. The Ghost of Rich Hill
5. You want FIVE starters??? You greedy bastard…

Belated congrats to Akeem Bostick, though.

Megill hasn't been that bAAd. The real issue is that besides Stroman (occasionally) none of these guys ever sees the sixth inning end with a ball in the paw.

I am tense as a longbow regarding Carrasco, who might actually throw a pitch in anger against the Reds this weekend. Maybe even two, if his leg doesn't come off immediately.

Rumor's that the Mets are after Kris Bryant. Why? Where would they even play him?? I mean, are we finally conceding that J.D. Davis is a question mark rather than an answer?

All things considered, Megill's been good. Still, the season is at a real crossroads. If they do nothing, it's a punt and wait until 2022.

Certainly not. That's why I've bumped him up to #2.

It's just AAbsurd to consider. Who would have thought that our #2 would be a kid from AA?

Man, I like OOTP, where guys still go to 120 pitches.

In this case, OOTP 16, before they built pitcher babying into the game.

I think it would be a (slightly insane) bet that whoever is broken comes back in time to do something, and that they'll get lucky and the Dodgers get beat in a wild card game or the DS.

Which may be less of an idea with the Barves out picking guys up. They are clearly unimpressed with the Mets and Phoolies, as they should be. Between injuries and ineffectiveness the Metsies really wasted a golden chance to be sitting way, way up in this mess of a division by now.

If no acquisitions, Uncle Stevie better clean house this offseason. Make Alderson retire, don't make Zack Scott permanent GM, fire Rojas. New front office who will be smart AND aggressive when necessary. New manager who won't be in way over his head. Someone who makes good in-game decisions and also has the temperment of Terry Collins who will stand up for his players, unlike the has-been clown on the Southside of Chicago.

I never thought I'd be longing for the days of Terry Collins again. Ugh, I need alcohol.

Scherzer to the Dodgers.
Kyle Gibson to the Phillies.
Berrrios to the Blue Jays (although perhaps they overpaid)

Mets get…Trevor Williams. He had a good year for Pittsburgh…in 2018. He's been garbage ever since.

But of course, we got Whiff Machiine Javy Baez! Yay! Current stats: 15 BB, 131 K.

Think he'll get his ass booed when he starts racking up more sombreros than Main Street in Tijuana? Naaaaah.

I mean, at least it's not Kris Bryant, whom I viscerally HATE for starting all this "launch angle" bull****. But still.

And yes, over his career, Baez has hit more dingers on the road than at home…but if you don't think swapping Wrigley for Shea II won't take the air out his One Dimension faster than Harry Styles going solo killed One Direction…

So, either this is just a rental, or Conforto will sulk his way to the bench when he realizes Zac wants to move McNeil to RF and he (Conforto) won't be re-signed. Or, knowing us, both.

Did I mention that September is easily Baez's worst month? (Because that's when the wind blows in at Wrigley, see?)

F*************CK

Current Mets rotation:

1. Marcus Stroman
2. Tylor "AAmazin" Megill
3. All-Star Taijuan "Bombs Away!" Walker
4. The Ghost of Rich Hill
5. Trevor Williams. No, seriously. TREVOR WILLIAMS, ffs

Sigh.

I hate the Baez trade too. Williams is a tire fire who's only better than Jerad Eickhoff by default, and Baez just adds another automatic out to a lineup pretty much full of them.

Hate to say it, but I would have rather just stood pat and punted the remainder of the season, knowing that Uncle Stevie's gonna once again try to sign everyone with his near-infinite checkbook in the winter. (maybe he'll actually succeed this time around)
