They are loaded with young talent from several productive drafts. Their top five players are all under age 28. 07/17: LOU 4, ORL 3 Bland 2-4, HR, 2 RBI 07/18: LOU 5, ORL 2 Westaway 8 IP, 2 ER, 9 H, 1 BB, 4 K; Brooks SV(3) 07/19: ORL 4, LOU 2 Hartman, John, and Dominguez each had 2 hits St. Louis SP Charles Combs will miss 12 months with a torn UCL (Tommy John surgery). Combs won 19 games last year, but he is 5-10 this season. 07/21: NSH 5, LOU 4 King BS(3); Davidson left after 8 IP with a 4-2 lead Dallas traded their closer to SLC for a CF to replace the injured Eddie Payne. Big risk for a first-place team that is planning ahead for the post-season. 07/22: NSH 3, LOU 2 Bland 3-3, 2 BB; Hartman, Morgan, Martinez each had 2 hits; Team LOB=10 07/23: NSH 5, LOU 4 (10) Bland 2-4, HR (16), RBI (48) It is a little disturbing to be swept at home by a fourth-place, sub-.500 team. Lexington 3B Antonio Pineda (.328, 7 HR, 38 RBI) is the AAA Player of the Week. Pineda was discovered in Venezuela by Candelaria in 2001 at age 17. Milwaukee has won 10 of 11 since the All-Star break to cut four games off our lead. This week: 3 vs. St. Louis (40-59), 3 at Phoenix (43-56) |

Congratulations on the 2004 CBA Championship! I am up to page 36 after 10 days of reading...I hope to be caught up before my trip to Atlanta to see Chipper's final 3 regular season games next week! This dynasty is great! I have really enjoyed it and I have used some of what I have learned reading your dynasty in my own dynasty: Indiana Baseball League.
Keep up the good work! Bum |

SS Cristo Rodriguez is hitting .365 since the All-Star break and now has his average up to .281. He has also been superb in the field. ROY candidate? 08/10: LOU 11, SLC 5 Brown 1-2, HR, 4 RBI (grand slam), 2 BB 08/11: LOU 3, CHI 0 Westaway 8 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 8 K, W (13-3, 2.91) 08/12: CHI 8, LOU 5 Alexander 4.1 IP, 7 ER, 5 H, 3 BB, 4 K, L (12-8, 4.44) 08/13: CHI 6, LOU 4 Martinez 2-4, HR, 2 RBI This week: 3 at Milwaukee (67-51), 3 vs. San Francisco (59-59) I start looking at personnel changes about mid-August. Only three positions are not yet settled... Class-A will need a pitching coach, because incumbent Pedro Morales still has no intention of signing an extension with Evansville. Thats too bad. Owensboro (R) manager Tanner Thompson wants a very large increase for an extension. He is barely above .500 this year, and thats the teams best season during his tenure. It might be time for some new blood. Owensboro pitching coach Fernando Ramos has agreed to a three-year extension. |

CBA STANDINGS
Thursday, August 17, 2006 Dallas is running away with their division. Louisville and Milwaukee look good to make the playoffs. The Pacific Division could be a tough fight. Look at Sacramento battling for a wild card! All of the Patriot division races are in doubt. How about Orlando, still hanging in there! Last edited by Orcin; 10-20-2017 at 06:10 PM. |

LEAGUE LEADERS
Thursday, August 17, 2006 Dennis Morgan is having a monster year. I am trying to give him some rest as we go, so (knock on wood) maybe he will be healthy in October this time. Last edited by Orcin; 10-20-2017 at 06:11 PM. |

LOUISVILLE COLONELS
Thursday, August 17, 2006 Simon has pushed his way back into the leadoff spot. Hartman seems more comfortable hitting seventh, which is fine for this year. Bland and Morgan are both candidates for the Outstanding Player award. Luna is really the #2 starter now. You may be wondering why Rafael Valdez is still at AA. He is only 19 and I dont see a need to rush him. He is a true impact superstar according to Enriquez, who seems to like him better each time he rates him. Mariano Gonzalez is tearing up AAA, but I have no place to play him. Lorenzo Olivares is a major disappointment and Juan Cortez is killing it at Lexington. I could see Gonzalez and Olivares being traded as a package for young talent in the off-season. We have a team option on George King at $2.4M for next season. Thats really cheap for a good closer but I have other pitchers that could close. We also have a $3.6M team option on ODaniel, a good bet to be declined even though he has done a great job. So you may see a new face or two in the bullpen next year. I have the talent at AAA. Last edited by Orcin; 10-20-2017 at 06:12 PM. |

He is our 2005 #1 draft pick. Enriquez is not impressed with him. 08/16: MIL 4, LOU 2 MIL SP Augusto Castillo 8 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1BB, 6K to defeat Westaway in the rubber game 08/18: LOU 6, SF 4 Bennett 2-4, solo HR 08/19: SF 2, LOU 1 Great pitchers duel won by Rafael Torres over Davidson 08/20: LOU 4, SF 2 Luna 8 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 6 K, w (14-4, 3.46); King SV(30) This week: 3 at Seattle (67-58), 3 vs. Indianapolis (55-69) Since a hot start, we have been playing steady .600 ball. I am resting my starters frequently; there is a sub in the lineup almost every day. So, if it seems like we are coasting, its because we are coasting. I want a healthy, rested team for the playoffs. By the way, while we are coasting, we lead the entire CBA in runs scored and fewest runs allowed. We have the exact same record (80-44) on this date as we did last year on this same day. We had a 10-game lead this time last year. |

This week: 3 at San Diego (74-56), 4 at San Francisco (64-67) Second baseman Mariano Gonzalez (.359/.458/.660) might be the Player of the Year in AAA if he appears in enough games (81 so far). He will go to arbitration again this year, and the estimate is $6 million. He is my best defensive second baseman and he has outstanding offensive potential. However, I already have Tom John (.315/.381/.400) at second base, and Russell Bennett (.294/.395/.466) has the utility infield spot locked down. My budget will not allow me the luxury of carrying $6 million players at AAA just in case. Its a tough decision that has to be addressed this off-season. |

CBA STANDINGS - FINAL
Monday, October 2, 2006 We were six games below our Pythagorean win total of 110. I think this reflects my decision to take my foot off the gas in September. Last edited by Orcin; 10-20-2017 at 06:15 PM. |

LEAGUE LEADERS
Monday, October 2, 2006 Dennis Morgan may have lost the HR and RBI crowns because of my decision to sit him for the final few games. Perhaps a World Series ring will make up for it. He has a $500K bonus for Outstanding Player Award in his contract and I hope to pay it. Last edited by Orcin; 10-20-2017 at 06:15 PM. |

LOUISVILLE COLONELS
Monday, October 2, 2006 Reliever Leonard Sherman replaces Chip Davidson on the playoff roster. I do want to point out that we were second in the league in home runs. A lineup change to increase speed and on-base percentage at the expense of power (i.e. Ron Hartman replacing Lorenzo Olivares in right field) reduced the number of homers from last year, but the overall balance of the offense is better and we scored more runs.
