It brings up an interesting thought to me. Is it worse for baseball as a whole to have one of the teams that choose not to spend big (I refuse to use the term small or medium market when talking about billionaires) to win the WS? My thought is that if one of those teams wins its justifies the actions of the heavy spenders. The message would be see, you don't have to be a big spender to win. Because let's be honest, I understand every team can defer contracts, but by allowing such a system your big media markets benefit. Free agents are going to pick those places over other spots. That is just my opinion and people may disagree but when I look at how payrolls are structured between some of these clubs its pretty laughable to think they are playing on the same field financially.

But there is more that I need to say. This story is so typical; every year for 16 years now, it's been the same thing. The Yankees failed to meet the elevated expectations of its spoiled fans and the media feasts upon it. I am sick of it. Maybe if they did NOT have such ludicrous expectations to win a championship every year, they would perform better. I am starting to feel like this guy: I Love New York, Except for the Yankees. It's part of what has been happening to me recently and you've probably seen references to it in other threads. Just as I am moving away from the Yankees (overhype, unrealistic expectations followed by grandiose displays of shock and dismay; stupid spoiled fans, Aaron Boone), I have left the football Giants (too many losing seasons, bad draft choices, stupid penalties and plays, inept management on-field and off) and the Knicks (ditto, but especially, especially the firing of Tom Thibodeau after he finally turned things around but made the mistake of not fulfilling the ultimate expectation). Here, I will give you a visual clue. I just started a new league in OOTP. Note whom I am playing and note the nickname of the team in New York. ![]() So I may have to start correcting you when you use the pronouns "you" and "your" to me in conjunction with the New York Yankees.

Ouch, Bru.
RIP, Greenie. (Can't blame the astroturf for this one, but it was thyroid cancer, not brain) Speaking of brains, how do you have a team meeting on the mound and NOT remind Orion Kerkering (and your other infielders) that there are two outs, make the play at 1B, regardless? It ain't Johnny Miljus (look it up) as far as self-inflicted walk-offs go, but ouch. Last edited by Amazin69; 10-10-2025 at 11:31 AM. |

I shouldn't have said anything. Going to choke it away to the Cubs of all teams.

Yanks are a good team. They may not be a "good enough" team to win the WS. But they are a good team. I hate the ring or you are nothing mentality. Especially among the pro-NY media. If you don't win it all they act like you aren't worthy enough for your company's rec league squad. Win it all & they act like you are better than the 70's Steelers, Gretzky's Oilers, the Jedi Council, the Justice League & the Gods of Olympus combined.

This has got to be it . . . bottom of the 15th, two on, nobody out . . . yep! Well, it was a good run, Tigers fans.

It was. If they were going to lose I wish it would have been with anyone other than Kahnle. His whole routine is comically played out.

48 yrs ago Seattle & Toronto both came into the AL together.
Also, I never heard of this. But the San Francisco Giants almost moved to Toronto before they got the Jays

Another little factoid - Seattle Mariners are the only team in MLB to never have played in a World Series.
Can they finally break through this year? |

Yeah, my ***, MLB!
I realize that the game went over five hours, but it still wasn't available for at least SEVEN hours after it must have ended! How come, MLB, that we ALWAYS have to **** the bed in the playoffs??? ![]() ![]()

I simulated the series on whatifsports.com and the Mariners won in 5. Take that for what it's worth. I do think a high scoring series favors the Mariners more since I think we have a deeper lineup than the Blue Jays do.

Unless they've moved Seattle to Newfoundland, I'm fairly certain it's not actually "GMT-4". What the what, MLB.tv?
