I'm sorry Wigan cant attract big players or that their chairman is a tighta$$ but the Mascherano ruling was a special dispensation. If it happens again, which it will, I am sure it will be looked at properly on a case by case basis. The fact that he has played 6 minutes since October 22 must have surely had an influence, and I for one(being a Reds supporter has little to do with it) am glad that FIFA saw the ridiculous situation Mascherano found himself in. And in all honesty, if it was Wigan or even Watford in the same situation, I'd be glad for the move to be approved. It's a dumb rule anyway, considering that different leagues worldwide, have staggered start/finish dates, and the move that brought Tevez and Mascherano to England in the first place was decidely dodgy. The club doesnt want him, he doesnt want them and just wants to play. On the investment front, it's typical middle east...if they think they have the best offer on the table, why pull it? The main issue or point of difference is the issue of a new stadium anyway. No matter even if Gillet decides to not make an offer, its only a matter of time before another billionaire or consortium comes along and pours the cash in. The fact that the board(David Moores and his 51.6 %) is looking for the best option is at least taking the clubs best interests into account.

Gillets bid is said to be 500 pounds more per share and Moores would have to seriously consider that. If he can convince Gillet to scrap the idea of sharing a stadium with Everton(yuck, hate that arrangement) maybe a deal will be done soon? On a lighter note, adding Mascherano(once the EPL approves it) and a couple more Spaniards is at least strengthening the squad a little. Masherano will provide cover for Alonso in that holding role while adding defender Álvaro Arbeloa from RC Deportivo La Coruña and Málaga CF's midfielder Francis Durán are both nice moves imo.

It is a non-story. The rule didn’t apply to loans when it was written; the purpose was to prevent players abusing the new freedom of movement post Bosman II. Mascherano’s status as merely loaned to West Ham meant the rule was never really applicable to him, and as far as I’m aware Liverpool are not actually buying his rights either. The FIFA rule is rather moot, but has just been jumped on by various hacks because Liverpool are a big club. I’d imagine the problems are arising because the EPL are somewhat discomforted by the players rights not being owned by a club. |

Totally different, Stead was loaned to Derby County and so he was still registered as a Sunderland player. Mascherano on the other hand was sold to West Ham so he was registered with them and not on loan, unless that is pretty much every football site is wrong as they all say "signed" to West Ham for an undisclosed fee. Couple of examples. http://home.skysports.com/player.asp...clid=21&cpid=8 http://www.soccerbase.com/players_de...playerid=38150 And I don't blame the EPL for being uncomfortable about it because the whole Mascherano and Tevez situation as smelled fishy from the day they entered the country. |

Sorry dude but doesn't matter if it's six minutes or not he has played for 2 teams, what's the point of having the rule if it's not adhered to. Last edited by ukhotstove; 02-01-2007 at 06:08 AM. |

Probably not lol, next few years Arsenal will be the team to watch. Don't you just love karma.
You have Chimbonda leaving Wigan because he want's to play for a big club but yet little old Wigan got to the League Cup Final last season and Spurs got knocked out in the semis this season, You have Ashley Cole who bitches about his time at Arsenal and goes and gets injured and good chance he will miss the League Cup Final against Arsenal. You have Lucas Neill who signs for West Ham saying he signed because of their history and not because of money but yet puts a clause in his contract if they get relegated he can leave and he goes and gets injured and is out a month. |

Throw in something new and they are well out of their depth. By-the-by they are getting the hang of it a bit now and most have been correctly quoting the move to Liverpool as a loan with an option to buy. What causes the confusion is the standard English footballing lexicon doesn’t cover this situation. He is on loan from the owners of his registration, just like any other loanee. Lets keep this simple. In 2004 MSI purchased Tevez and Mascherano. MSI have owned them ever since and will continue to own them until they can either get the minimum £20million fee they are looking for for each player, or they decide to cut their losses. Bear in mind MSI invested a considerable sum in buying the pair; Tevez cost them just over £10million, Mascherano a few quid shy of £8million. They were bought as an investment and won’t be sold until they can get top dollar in the European market. Nothing smelt fishy about the deal. It stinks, but that is a different issue altogether It has been a very common practice in South America for years and it was always inevitable it would find its way to Europe with the growing gulf between the haves and have nots on this continent.

Looks like the Mascherano and Tevez saga will rumble on for a bit longer, personally I say kick them both out of the country as it's been nothing but dodgy from day one.

It just proves that the people who run football are so inept that it's not even funny, every man, woman and child said from the day they arrived here that something was fishy about it.

In my younger days I used to join in with the crowd violence as well, it was the thing to do but grew out of it when Mr Stanley started making an appearance this however makes me disgusted to be a football fan.
Punishment should be swift imo and both teams should be made to play behind closed doors for the rest of the season, their fans should be banned from away games for 5 years also the money that Catania (home team) got for the game should be paid to the policemans widow (or family if he isn't married) and whatever that total Palermo should have to pay as well which should go to and I'm thinking they have one a policeman's widows fund. Personally to make the fans pay I'd also make both teams add on X ammount to the ticket prices for the rest of the season and next season and the money going to a charity of some sort's, at the height of crowd violence with English fans they banned them from Europe although this game wasn't in a European competition a part of the reason and length of ban for them was vilonce within the English leagues what's the betting UEFA do nothing about it. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/6326513.stm |

All Italian football has been suspended indefinitely following a riot after tonight's Catania vs. Palermo Sicilian Derby, where one police officer was killed.
This includes the Italian national team and the friendly with Romania has been cancelled. http://icscotland.icnetwork.co.uk/sp...name_page.html EDIT: article removed due to double posting. Last edited by Sdpm100; 02-02-2007 at 06:05 PM. |
