Monday, May 18, 1959 YANKS AND JACKS WIN AGAIN, TOP TWO TEAMS IN SUPREME LEAGUE AT MIDSEASON MARK Midway throught the season the New Yerby Yankees are sitting pretty atop the South Island Supreme League standings, one game up on the runner-up Jackson Jackalopes... New Yerby chalked up its second win in a row, fending off the tough Meraux Tigers 6-4 yesterday afternoon, while Jackson ran off their fourth straight victory by besting the winless St. Dominic Saints 5-3... in the other two games Delta zonked the Zebulon Zips 8-4 and Bar Harbor nipped the Mystic Mariners in 11 innings 5-4. MY LIFE IN 1959
EC's Wishin' and a Hopin' Life is Fine in '59 To be honest, 1959 was not really fine for me... still a loner... still too shy to get a girlfriend... still can't dance and have low self-esteem... I didn't even try to learn to dance... it's sad to be that way... it's sad to think that dancing is that important in life... the honest truth, it is not that important... the smart ladies are looking for a sensitive and considerate companion... not a Tony Manero-type (John Travolta) of Saturday Night Fever fame. EC's still just driftin' and dreamin' through my life without any aspirations or goals... no direction in life... not really happy in the Air Force, although I did get a choice career field... as a Russian Language Specialist I would have gotten promoted more quickly... it was a very good career field to be in... it was critical field in the Air Force... they needed me... I had a chance to make sergeant in my first four years... at that time that was hard to do. One really good thing that happened was the base intramural bowling league... yep, we faced the powerful NCO's (Non-Commissioned Officers) for the league championship... ah, it was so great to beat the cocky and arrogant sergeants... it was a handicap league, meaning the weaker bowler got a bonus added to his league average... when a weaker bowler rolled a better game than he usually did, this really helped his team that night... Zak Dowdle averaged about 160 per game... EC about 150... well, Zak and EC rolled about 20 points better than our league averages and we upset the NCOs, beating them two games in a row for the league crown... yep, Zak and EC were really on a roll that lovely night at the base bowling alley... the other two guys on our team were elite bowlers, two of the top bowlers in the league... they averaged 200 pins a game...they were better than the best NCO bowlers, ranking #1 and #3 overall... actually, the NCO's had 4 of the top 10 bowlers in the league... we only had 2... but we won the league title because of our handicaps. Well, it's time to cover the National Baseball Association... wow, it was great to be alive at this time in history... this was the first year of the historic Bill Russell versus Wilt Chamberlain rivalry... Wilt was the league MVP, Rookie of the Year and led the league in scoring.. HOW ABOUT THAT!... but Russell and his Boston Celtics again won the league crown for the second season in a row... they whipped my St. Louis Hawks and one of my favorite players of all-time, Bob Pettit again... the Celts won in a sizzling series four games to three. Jerry West is also one of my all-time favorites, along with George Mikan of the Minneapolis Lakers... Mikan is now retired... West will be joining the NBA soon... Zeke from Cabin Creek is coming soon... he will debut in 1960. Wow!... I just saw this interesting fact in Wikipedia... on October 24, 1959, Chamberlain made his NBA debut, starting for the Philadelphia Warriors... Chamberlain became the NBA's highest paid player when he signed for $30,000 in his rookie contract... in comparison, the previous top earner was Bob Cousy of the Celtics with $25,000, the same figure Eddie Gottlieb used to buy the Warriors franchise in 1952. HOW ABOUT THAT!... my, oh, my, how times have changed. Here are the main players for each team... Boston featured Bill Russell, Tommy Heinsohn, Bill Sharman, Bob Cousy, Frank Ramsey and Gene Conley (who also played and pitched well in Major League Baseball)... in the starting lineup for St. Louis were Bob Petit, Cliff Hagan, Clyde Lovellette, Si Green and John McCarthy. Saturday, May 23, 1959 YANKS ELITE TEAM IN SI SUPREME LEAGUE Halfway through the Supreme League season the elite team so far is the New Yerby Yankees... the Yanks are the top team in batting, scoring, homers and stolen bases... they have adequate pitching... their only shortcoming is defense (.954 FA)... New Yerby has posted a 6-1 mark at midseason, a game better than the Jackson Jackalopes at 5-2... last year's league champ Meraux is 4-3 and tied for the third spot in the standings with the Zebulon Zips... New Yerby has beaten all of the challengers in their first meeting this season... they whipped the Jacks 6-3 in 10 innings... the Zips 16-14... and the Tigers 6-4... all close games... only the fifth place Mystic Mariners have beaten the Yankees so far... the Mariners drubbed the Yanks 9-3... no telling who will win the flag this season... it's still anybody's to win... parity is rampant in the South Island Supreme League. New Yerby (6-1) has been blessed with some very good rookie bats, sparked by third baseman Rusty Armstrong (.500/6 RBI), shortstop Dom DeLuca (385/7 RBI) and Clancy Dupepe (.412/3 HR/7 RBI)... together with vet center fielder Clayton Delaney (.400) and vet first baseman James Madison (.292/3 HR/9 RBI) the team has flourished at the plate and on the scoreboard... Steve Chancellor (3-1/3.55 ERA) and rookie Johnny Jordan (3-0/3.79 ERA) have been a good mound tandem, providing steady and consistent pitching... heading into the second half of the season things are looking good for New Yerby... they finished second to Meraux in the Secondary League last season and they are looking good with a better offense... DeLuca can hit, but his defense is not good at shortstop. Jackson (5-2) is a twin of New Yerby... they have good hitting and scoring... average mound staff... but not so good on defense... maybe worse overall than the Yankees... however, the offense may be a tad better New Yerby.... three rookies, Allen Miller (.406 BA/6 RBI) in right field, left fielder Lawrence Chapman (.346 BA/6 RBI) and shortstop Mickey Retief (.323 BA/4 RBI), have certainly boosted the offense and given veteran center fielder Jake Johnson (.381 BA/6 RBI) some help... on the hill starter Donnelle Crochet (4-0/3.48 ERA) has been fairly good, but needs better help from the bullpen... Denny McCain (0-1/4.84 ERA) and Scott Duplessis (1-1/5.14 ERA) have not done well so far... Jackson has dropped two games this year... Delta edged them 3-2 in the opening game and New Yerby topped them 6-3 in 10 innings. Defending champion Meraux (4-3) hasn't been able to beat its main rivals... the Tigers lost to Jackson 9-8, to New Yerby 6-4 and Zebulon 4-1... the main problem is both pitching and offense... rookie southpaw Tommy Kitchen (3-2/3.43 ERA) is the most effective hurler, but he can't go deep in the game... vets Kyle Fischer (1-0/4.15 ERA) and Kenny Carrigan (0-1/4.05 ERA) are just average in relief... two years ago in the Secondary League title season Fischer was the league MVP with an 11-0 record and a 2.40 ERA... rookie catcher Gary Newton (.346 BA/3 RBI/4 SB) has been a good addition... Meraux need its prime bat Don Fontenot (.281 BA/2 RBI/3 SB) to perk up at the plate in the second half... Newton will need some help for the Tigers to roar in the second half and overcome the two leaders, New Yerby and Jackson. Zebulon (4-3) zipped out to a great start -- they won the first four games of the season -- but the Zips have lost all three games in May, falling to Jackson 10-3, New Yerby 16-14 and to Delta 8-6... obviously pitching is their problem... rookie Lucien Chapelle (4-3/5.14 ERA) is the best of the lot and that is nowhere near good enough... Zebulon is the absolute worst in the league with a horrendous 5.91 ERA... the Zips can compete with solid hitters like rookie first baseman Billy Ward (.500 BA/4 HR/11 RBI, veterans like third sacker Tubby Ernst (.419 BA/5 RBI), left fielder Eric Kiser (.364 BA/6 RBI) and shortstop Benny Byrd (.360 BA/2 RBI/2 SB), but they are going to have tough sledding in the second half without some drastic improvement on the mound. Just two years ago in 1957, the Mystic Mariners (4-3) were the supreme leader, the king of the hill in the Supreme League with a 9-4 mark... however, the Sailors have fallen on hard times since, going a poor 4-7 last season... Mystic hit well in the championship season, but not since... pitcher Logan Feeney (3-2/2.64 ERA) was the Supreme League MVP in '57, but he had a terrible year last season... this year he is the best thing the Mariners have... he gives them a chance to beat anybody in the league... a rejuvenated Feeney needs help in the bullpen... second baseman John Dailey (.429 BA/3 RBI) and center fielder Rory Flanagan (.300 BA/5 RBI) are the best of the lot in the batter's box... the rest of the lineups is not so good... no help from the newcomers... first baseman Frank Gullo (.250 BA/4 RBI is great with the glove, but just average at the plate... the Mariners gave league-leading New Yerby its only defeat 9-3, but they have lost to all of the other contenders... Jackson got the best of them 12-7, Meraux stopped them 4-1 and Zebulon edged them 2-0... not likely that Mystic will win the title this season... the bullpen is too bad and the offense is too weak, but the Mariners do play good defense with a league-leading .985 FA. The Bar Harbor Acadians (4-3) are not as good as their record... they are just a mediocre club... bad pitching and bad hitting with average defense... rookie hurlers Adam Cunningham (2-2/4.68 ERA) and Michael Christian (0-0/4.22 ERA) have not done the job... the Cajuns need help scoring runs, too... none of the rookies have hit their weight... center fielder Junior Wible (.179 BA/5 RBI/2 SB) has been a disappointment with the bat, but he had done a very good job in the field with his glove... only a few veterans are producing and that is not enough... the best of the lot are shortstop Mike Allen (.360 BA/4 HR), catcher Leon Bissonnette (.318 BA/0 RBI/6 runs) and first baseman Adam Harper (.259 BA/3 HR/8 RBI)... Allen is an excellent all-around player... he topped the Supreme League with a .480 BA in '57. The Delta Stars (3-4) were pennant hopefuls this year... the Stars were coming off good seasons in '57 (8-5) and '58 (7-4), propelled by very good pitching by Terry Cockrell... the those two years they have been near the bottom in scoring runs... that is the crux of their problem, along with bad defense (.955 FA)... this season Cockrell (0-1/4.60 ERA) has lost his starting position to Eric Pahler (3-3/2.44 ERA)... the batting averages are up, but the Stars are still starving for runs on the scoreboard... they only scored 7 runs in the first three games... it improved in the second month of the season... Pahler gives Delta a shot at winning each game... but he needs some help from the pen... rookie center fielder Lynn Parker (.414 BA/3 RBI) has helped the attack, but has hurt in the outfield defensively... veterans in right field Jimmy Carter (.333 BA/4 RBI/4 SB) and shortstop Boog Rucker (.321 BA/4 RBI/6 R) are the top batters... Pahler gives them good pitching, but the team just doesn't score runs... no help from the rookies in the batting order except from Parker. The winless and last place St. Dominic Saints (0-7) were well-thought of heading into this season... they were coming off two winning seasons with decent offense and good pitching... 7-5 and third place in '57 and 7-4 and the second spot last year... this year they have been awful on the scoreboard and on the hill... nobody on the team is hitting at all... rookie shortstop Danny Church leads with a .269 BA... no one is pitching at all... all the pitchers have 4.50 ERAs and higher... two former reliable pitchers Chris Johnson (0-3/5.32 ERA) and Matt Seeley (0-1/5.00 ERA) have tanked this season... Seeley was 6-1 last year with a spectacular 1.76 ERA... he finished third in the Supreme League MVP poll... top hitters left fielder Larry Arbour (.200 BA/0 RBI) and right fielder Mitch Haney (.250 BA/3 RBI) are slumping badly... none of the rookies have panned out... it's going to be a long, long season for the Saints... one thing though, for sure... it can't get any worse... this season can't end too soon for the St. Dominic fans... and for the team, too. Saturday, May 23, 1959 CHERRYWOOD IS CLASS OF THE SECONDARY LEAGUE AT MIDSEASON... 5 CLUBS ONLY 1 GAME BEHIND 7 of the 14 games have been played... we're halfway through the South Island Secondary League season...only the hapless and winless Littleton Supermen have been eliminated for pennant contention... the other 7 clubs are in the hunt... the class of the league this year appears to be the first place Cherrywood Stouts (5-2)... they are one of the few teams in the Secondary League with good pitching... Cyril Romero (2-1/2.61 ERA) and reliever Dave Schulman (2-01.38 ERA) have been the difference this season... the Stouts' staff have put up a solid 3.25 ERA this year, far and away the best in the league... Cherrywood can handle the lumber, too... they are batting .314 as a team, topped only by Joliet's .335 BA... top to bottom the Stouts have a solid bat in the lineup, led by shortstop Rick Fargnoli (.448 BA/0 HR/5 RBI), catcher Steve Henson (.400 BA/3 HR/7 RBI), right fielder Bill Wilson (.333 BA/1 HR/5 RBI) and rookie center fielder Robert Wheeler (.3-4 BA/2 HR/4 RBI) and left fielder Lester Atkins (.529 BA/1 HR/1 RBI)... Cherrywood two defeats were at the hands of the Billing Rams 4-2 and the Grin Hill Smileys 4-3... the Secondary League is well-balanced... even winless Littleville is hard to beat at times... the weekend norm is everybody can beat everybody. 5 teams are tied for second place with 4-3 marks at midseason, just one game out of first place... the Joliet Green Giants (4-3) lead the league in scoring and batting average... they have scored 50 runs, 7 per game, while sporting a skyhigh .335 BA... rookie catcher Alan Roussel (.556 BA/1 HR/4 RBI) and center fielder Clem Rabalais (.286 BA/0 HR/4 RBI) is the worst... in between you will find rookie left fielder Ronnie Fleming (.414 BA/4 HR/9 RBI), third baseman Bob Proctor (.400 BA/0 HR/2 RBI), second baseman Ralph Varricchio (.394 BA/0 HR/5 RBI), right fielder Claude Jarreau (.379 BA/0 HR/5 RBI), first baseman Alphonse Guidry (.333 BA/4 HR/7 RBI) and shortstop Phil Richard (.321 BA/2 HR/8 RBI)... rookie Antoine Chalamet (4-2/3.14 ERA) is the only effective starter... he will be the key to the Green Giants' season... Joliet lost to Cherrywood 6-5, Parkland 6-4 and 14-8 to Braxton. Next to Cherrywood, the Billings Rams (4-3) are the only other team with any pitching whatsoever.... Darnell Banks (4-1/4.25 ERA) has been OK this season... the Rams lost 3 of the first 4 games due to horrible pitching, beaten 10-5 by Parkland, 10-1 by Joliet and 6-4 by Braxton... once Banks took over as starter, wins started coming... rookie left fielder Mitch Anderson (.462 BA/2 HR/6 RBI) is the top hitter on the team with help from first baseman Roger McCullough (.393 BA/0 HR/3 RBI), rookie second baseman Jimmy Armstrong (.333 BA/1 HR/5 RBI), center fielder Sebastien Gisclair (.333 BA/3 HR/7 RBI), shortstop Mike Mitchell (.281 BA/1 HR/4 RBI), right fielder Arthyr Freeman (.273 BA/0 HR/5 RBI) and catcher Steve McDonald (.261 BA/2 HR/8 RBI). The Braxton Bruins (4-3) have put lots of runs on the scoreboard this season, but so has the opposing teams... the Bruins need a consistent and reliable pitcher to win the pennant... rookie center fielder Jeff Cook (.310 BA/5 HR/13 RBI) has sizzled this season at the plate and leads the Secondary League in homers and runs batted in... so has third baseman Roger Sandlin (.478 BA/2 HR/7 RBI)... right fielder Brian Howe (.318 BA/0 HR/5 RBI) has helped out some, too... on the mound Gordon Freeman (4-1/4.68 ERA) has a glossy record, but he really has not done well... the offense has saved him several times... but Chester Gearhart (0-0/3.52 ERA), Peter Willis (0-1/3.68 ERA) and Ricky Wilcox (0-0/13.50 ERA) don't look like the answer... Braxton will probably have to do or die with the inconsistent Freeman... the Bruins lost their first two games this season, then ran off four wins in a row... but first place Cherrywood snapped that winning streak last Sunday, thoroughly whipping them 8-2. Grin Hill (4-3) beat Cherrywood 4-3... that was a big victory... but the Smileys were routed by Billings 12-4 the very next weekend... two of their wins came in the first games of the season against two bad teams.... Grin Hill also lost to Joliet 6-1... so what the problem?... inconsistent hitting and pitching... rookie shortstop Rafael Ramos (.320 BA/3 HR/7 RBI), veteran third baseman Mark Wade (.393 BA/2 HR/5 RBI), center fielder Slim Smiley (.394 BA/2 HR/4 RBI) and third baseman Nico Pocorello (.440 BA/0 HR/2 RBI) are the best runs producers... the Smileys are second in hits in the league, but they leave too many runners on base... the pitching had not been good... the primary starter Jeff Lynch (1-1/6.12 ERA) had been really bad... it will be up to Leon Picard (1-0/2.45 ERA) and Leon Dement (2-1/3.63 ERA) to make or break Grin Hill's season... those two will do the lion share of the pitching the rest of the way. The Parkland Perfectos (4-3) have trouble scoring and the pitching is bad like most teams in the Secondary League... they opened the season 4-1... the only loss was to Cherrywood 6-2... then they ran into two teams playing good ball and dropped two straight to Grin Hill 8-2 and Braxton 6-4.... last weekend the Perfectos struggled with winless Littleville, but won 5-4 in 13 innings... in the second half of the season Parkland will probably sink or swim with Denny Lee (1-1/6.35 ERA), hoping he can right the ship and regain his form from last season when he stood out with a 6-4 record and a fine 2.50 ERA... the best bats are right fielder Vincent Jeansonne (.344 BA/3 HR/7 RBI) and rookie first baseman Aaron Kettering (.194 BA/2 HR/7 RBIs)... rookie Bruce Bundy (.294 BA/0 HR/1 RBI/4 SB) and veteran shortstop Johnny Strauss (.370 BA/0 HR/0 RBI) hit well, but have only one RBI between them... the Perfectos are not hitting with men on base... Clifton Maxwell (2-2/4.05 ERA) has been the most effective pitcher... Dunk Sanford (0-0/4.86 ERA) and Noel Chastain (1-0/7.94 ERA) have not done the job at all... it looks it will be Lee starting and Maxwell relieving the rest of the season. The Pelham Oaks (3-4) possess a 7.98 ERA and give up 9 runs a game, yet they have won 3 of them... yep, the Oaks can score runs... they started off the season with 3 straight victories, but in the last 4 games they have all been defeats... the least runs was 9 in a 9-8 loss to Parkland... the others were 13-3 to Cherrywood, 10-6 to Billings and 10-7 to Joliet... Pelham has tried all four pitchers, veterans George Strait (1-1/11.20 ERA) and Bobby Derringer (2-1/8.03 ERA), along with rookies Phil Jacobs (0-1/4.86 ERA) and Ray Hershey (0-1/8.38 ERA)... all four have been used in the same game several times, but to no avail... fortunately the Perfectos play exciting high-scoring games... they are fun to watch unless you are on the mound for them... the top guns are rookie first baseman Bill Chapman (.433 BA/3 HR/8 RBI), rookie shortstop Gary Patterson (.385 BA/4 HR/8 RBI), together with veterans catcher Doug Patterson (.419 BA/1 HR/5 RBI) and second baseman Chad Worthington (.312 BA/1 HR/7 RBI)... one thing you hope... that the pitching doesn't get worse in the second half of the season... double-digit ERAs in the box scores really mess up the order, symmetry and beauty of the box score... yep, graphics of all kinds are important to EC... I love symmetry and beauty. There is one good thing that can be said about the last-place Littleville Supermen (0-7).. they are getting closer to winning their first game of the season... the scores are getting closer and closer... in the last three weekends they lost to Billings 6-4, Joliet 7-6 and to Parkland 5-4 in 13 innings... beware Grin Hill, you are up next... now the bad things about the last-place Littleville Supermen... last in the league in scoring runs (26), last in batting average (.238), last in hits (62), last in homers (9)... and next-to-last in ERA (5.98 ERA)... 'nuff said... the Supermen are last in the South Island Secondary League... now I have to find something good to say about the last-place Littleville Supermen... rookie left fielder Dicky Hall is batting .261 with 2 homers and 8 RBIs... he is their only productive batter... plus rookie pitcher Jules Desjardins is their only productive pitcher... he is 0-0 in 2 starts and 3 games with a fairly nice 3.86 ERA in 14 innings of pitching... where in the world is Clark Kent when you really need him... wonder if Lois Lane can pitch... or hit? |

MY LIFE IN 1959
EC's Still Wishin' and Hopin' Life Will Be Fine in '59 EC is studying the Russian language at the Presidio of Monterey where the Army Language School is based... I really mean "studying" the Russian language "intensely"... 6 hours a day, 5 days a week... been doing it for about 10 months... 2 more months to go to complete the course... you don't realize it, but this puts a person under a lot of pressure... in the year I was at the Army Language School, there were several attempted suicides... hard to believe, isn't it?... well, the pressure even got to EC... nope, no suicidal thoughts, but I did have a mild mental breakdown of sorts... I stopped speaking Russian in class... just refused to do it... I was just sick and tired of it... spoke only English for a week... they sent me to the talk to the head doctor at the base infirmary... the colonel was a great guy... he called in a sergeant and told him to tell the orderly room, the company first sergeant and the base commander that I was on leave for a week and would not have to do anything at all, but rest... the colonel told me to take a week off and relax... just forget the Russian language... totally forget the military... the colonel told me if the military harassed me at all to come right back to him and let him know and heads would roll... just lay around the barracks... no military duties... go to movies... just relax for a week... listen to music... I did it and it worked... after a week of rest and relaxation I went back to class and began to speak Russian again... would you believe my grades shot up, too... EC improved from 72nd in the class to 49th... HOW ABOUT THAT! The military did harass me... the first sergeant, Sgt. Hershel Hobbs, hollered and screamed at me when I went into the orderly room... I brazenly screamed right back at Sgt. Hobbs and told him I would tell the colonel if he continued to scream and holler at me... 'nuff said... they still hollered and screamed at me, but, you know what, they didn't take any action against me... they left EC alone that week. Actually, to be honest, Sgt. Hobbs was a good guy at heart... his bark was worst than his bite... he just appeared to be a tough sergeant... but he wasn't... just like my old Technical Instructor Sgt. John Randolph at Lackland AFB in my basic training days. And now, let's switch to a happier subject... one of EC's favorite subjects -- the movies -- this was the time of the Cold War and the Atomic Age when the US and Russia could annihilate mankind and the world with the push of the proverbial red button... the only protection we had was to go to the cellar if we had one and sit with our arms folded over our heads... that's what we did in school when we would conduct nuclear attack drills and exercises... yep, that what we did in the 1950s... nope, we were not the sharpest tools in the woodshed back then. A very provocative film came out called "On the Beach"... it really made you think about the Cold War and the possibility of nuclear annihilation. (Special thanks to Wikipedia for helping EC so much with his research... recently I sent them a $100 donation because I use them so much... it is really a great resource) "On the Beach" is a 1959 American post-apocalyptic science fiction drama film produced and directed by Stanley Kramer, that stars Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Fred Astaire, and Anthony Perkins. This black-and-white film is based on Nevil Shute's 1957 novel of the same name depicting the aftermath of a nuclear war. Unlike in the novel, no one is assigned blame for starting the war; the film hints that global annihilation may have arisen from an accident or misjudgment. At the Army Language School, we got to watch Russian movie in Russian. One of them was "Ballad of a Soldier" (in Russian "Баллада о солдате"), a 1959 Soviet film. While set during World War II, "Ballad of a Soldier" is not primarily a war film. It recounts, within the context of the turmoil of war, various kinds of love: the romantic love of a young couple, the committed love of a married couple, and a mother's love of her child, as a Red Army soldier tries to make it home during a leave, meeting several civilians on his way and falling in love. The young soldier gets leave to go home, probably for the late time... he finally arrives with only a day to visit his family and then head back to the front. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. These two films, anti-war in nature, made a deep impact on EC... sadly the world has never gotten the message... even today in 2022 we are concerned about Vladimir Putin and his threats of nuclear war... it's scary folks... yep, it's scary... hope nobody will ever pushes THAT TERRIBLE RED BUTTON... or even thinks about it or threatens it. And now back to a more pleasant activity, let's see what transpired in the National Hockey League in '59. The 1959–60 NHL season was the 43rd season of the National Hockey League. The Montreal Canadiens were the Stanley Cup winners as they defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs four games to none for their fifth straight Stanley Cup. Montreal played the minimum number of games, 8, and swept the 2 series to win the Stanley Cup and in the process, became the last Cup winners in NHL history to go undefeated in the playoffs to date. After winning the Stanley Cup, Maurice Richard retired from the NHL as a champion. Now, that is the way to go out... way to go, Rocket Richard. Last edited by Eugene Church; 10-22-2022 at 04:04 PM. |

Monday, May 25, 1959 1ST PLACE NEW YERBY FALLS TO BAR HARBOR... TIED WITH JACKSON FOR SUPREME LEAGUE LEAD The top teams in the South Island Supreme League are bunched a little closer now... the New Yerby Yankees were beaten by Bar Harbor, while Jackson, Meraux and Zebulon were victorious... the Yanks are now deadlocked on top of the standings with the Jackalopes, both with 6-2 season records... the Tigers and Zips are just a game off the pace. On the weekend scoreboard the Bar Harbor Acadians got the best of New Yerby 4-2... Jackson nicked the Delta Stars 5-4. Meraux topped the Mystic Mariners 5-1... and Zebulon outscored the St. Dominic Saints 10-4. Last edited by Eugene Church; 10-24-2022 at 07:17 PM. |
