Same facegen, just tweaked.
He shares that same look of odium for the world that the Peach has. No wonder they became buds. Probably spent all their spare time making voodoo dolls.

Bill Grahame

Bill Grahame was a left-handed pitcher for the St. Louis Browns from 1908-1910. In his three big league seasons, he compiled a record of 14 wins and 29 losses, with a 2.90 ERA.

Redid the facegen.

NeL facegen files names

FancySkunk,

I found this in my files. It was the OOTP NeL Export list that I think Spritze gave to me last year for a quickstart I was working on that required knowing the OOTP import codes for various NeL players. So, for now, this is what the game looks for to tag facegens to NeL players.

So, bud, if I use the codes in this, ALL NeL players become available for some sort of import - is that correct? and then you can just edit as you see fit? How did you find the accuracy of some of these guys upon import?

Yup, luckymann, these are the import codes that bring NeL players into games (import from the historical_database.obd files).

For my GOAT quickstart, I chose the year I wanted the player at but did not take the straight import from OOTP. The OOTP database isn't nearly as complete as the seamheads database (which bRef now licenses). So I took the career numbers, put them in the player editor and then calculated the skills backward - so a bit of reverse engineering - to get the player I wanted. The larger sample size over an entire career had a dampening effect on wildly overpowered years for some players and for others it just gave sufficient sample size to approximate the player. I read books and articles for comps to players so I could use another player's defense, baserunning, etc. to fill in the gaps. Same with pitch selection and relative strength of each pitch. I'll email you the spreadsheet that has the info in it. Eventually I will post the GOAT quickstart - too busy making facegens lately to ;P

Excellent. Definitely don't have the time to work on this before tomorrow, but it's something I'll look into for sure.

----

1998 season has 11/30 teams completed (ANA, ARI, ATL, BAL, BOS, CHC, CWS, CIN, CLE, COL, DET). Nearly every player on these teams has been re-done. I'm probably not going to be able to get any more work done on 1998 before the update, but I think this has been some great progress.

----

I'm going to see if there's any random odds and ends I can get done tomorrow before the update comes out. I did do a little here and there on some higher profile players (Mantle, Maris, Berra, Willie Mays, and the DiMaggio brothers), and might continue with some work in that vein if I have time.

Fairly sure the two Steve Ontiveros fgs are the wrong way around, with the 1973 version 002 and the 1985 version 001.

I still can't believe that there were two different men named Steve Ontiveros to have played Major League Baseball

This. According to BB-Ref. Probably the wrong way around in the complete universe facegen pack though because logically 01 should be 001, and 02 should be 002. Not the case here, and I'm sure there are others.

You'd think, but BRef IDs can be a bit weird. In this case, the 90s player is indeed 001 and the 70s player is 002 (both in game and on BRef).

That's what I said. I said logically it would be 01 = 001, and 02 = 002. The Minors IDs do not always follow logic though. The Ontiveros lads are far from the only example of this I would think.

Wally Clement

"To fill the vacancy caused by the poor work of Sebring, Brooklyn claimed Clement, formerly of Jersey City. He is a fairly good player but he hasn't any throwing arm." - Sporting Life, June 26, 1909

Wally Clement appeared in only three games in 1909 before being selected off waivers in June by the Brooklyn Superbas, a team which would lose 100 games. Wally became a regular outfielder in the borough, hitting .259/.296/.306 in 92 games and 340 at bats. In 1910, he went back to Jersey City. - bRef Bullpen wiki

Redid the facegen.

Art Wilson

In 812 games over 14 seasons, Art Wilson posted a .261 batting average with 237 runs, 24 home runs and 227 RBI. He spent most of his career as a backup, although he was the starting catcher for the Federal League's Chicago Whales during their two-season tenure in 1914–1915. He hit the first home run in the history of Wrigley Field, off of George "Chief" Johnson on April 23, 1914. He was also the catcher for Cubs pitcher Hippo Vaughn during the "double no-hitter" game in 1917.

Al Mattern

Al Mattern pitched five years for the Boston Braves, in 1908-12. During his time with them, they were called the Doves, then the Rustlers, and finally the Braves. Whatever they were called, Boston had three straight last-place finishes from 1909-1911, going a combined 142-315, which gave Mattern plenty of opportunities to lose. Still, the left-handed spitballer was also Boston’s ace, winning a third of its games in 1909, a feat that the Hall of Fame recognized him for. It certainly wasn’t for his 36-58 career record. When Mattern was done pitching to home plate, he pitched deals on Buicks to his neighbors back in the same little hamlet in western New York where spent his entire life. - SABR

I had no facegen for him, so made this one based off the baseball card.

He's doing OK in his rookie year, around league ave across the board. Sadly, he's stuck with the Reds, not quite as dire as the Bostonians, but uncompetitive at the moment all the same.
