Was reading on CNN about a boxer who died after a fight and I got to remembering my grandfather and his after boxing job of referring fights. I was able to see Benny "Kid" Paret in the ring before he died. My grandfather was Joe Simonich. He was a scrapper even after he retired from boxing. He kept a scrapbook of all his fights which is now in the hands of my brother. It is a very interesting piece of our history. He also kept all of his gloves which when his personal effects were divided we all got a pair. My grandpa was like a giant to me when I was growing up but looking back he wasn't very tall but he remained in good shape for a long long time. He was a very interesting character and he loved my grandma but he he was always a ladies man. Women liked him.

His youngest grandson Rob Simonich (my brother) was making quite a name for himself in the Knife world (he made knives). 6 yrs. ago he was killed in a car accident. My dad, Joe's son lived his entire life (except for his Navy years) in Whitehall and a piece of the 640 acre cattle ranch my grandfather had when he retired is still in our family
