...early on it looked like the SIU defense was going to cause trouble, but WVU has gotten some good looks...and SIU has been having some foul trouble on their end. On offense, they are surviving the WVU defense, but not taking real good shots, or they just can't get them to drop...

At this point, it doesn't look real good for the Salukis.

This is where MMOD is really paying off for me. GTown game is at half, and CBS is showing Nova/Monmouth, but luckily I can watch WVU/SIU on MMOD.

Iowa screws me in the OOTP ESPN contest. I had them in the Elite 8.

Losing Seton Hall and Oklahoma (Sweet 16) yesterday hurt as well.

So, spleen doesn't win the OOTP ESPN bracket!

WV is shooting the lights out from beyond the arc, or going to the line when they try to go inside.

The Salukis are hanging on, it seems to me, and over the long run the "D" might swing things in their favor. Mullins is already a favorite of the announcers and he's been a major pain. Matt Shaw got a nice steal and fumbled it out of bounds on his way to the basket...

...so, the Dawgs are tough on their end but the Mountaineers are sharp-shooting the 3-pointers. The Salukis will have to clamp down on that if they are to stand a chance.

Worst possible scenario for the Salukis is shaping up. They're going to have to score and they're already taking some awful shots since they're down big.

EDIT: WV is going to clean the floor today, they are dead-on from beyond the arc and, ****, that is the only shot they seem to even care about taking. So much for that...

By the way, I filled out a bracket solely by Ken Pom's Efficiency ratings...just to see how well it would do. It has missed 6 games so far, Iowa is the only sweet 16 team it has lost.

I originally based all of my picks off of his Efficiency Ratings, but decided a mix of gut picks was needed.

I did the same, the efficiency bracket is much cleaner than mine so far.

According to Pomeroy, this game is the best shot a 16 seed has ever had to beat a 1 seed. Memphis is an extremely weak 1 seed and Oral Roberts is a 16 that should have been a 14.

I used the Kenpom effeciency ratings to some degree, moreso in choosing my Final Four than individual matchups. There were a few matchups where I was familiar with the teams, and picked moreso on the matchup issues than using the efficiency rankings. Also, the Kenpom Pythag numbers tend to slightly underrate midmajors. 28 of the top 30 teams are power conference teams.

I think that is about right, actually. It is right around that 30-35 mark that the better mid-majors should start appearing. That puts them ahead of quite a few power conference teams still.
