Could Macha use any more pitchers in a game they're losing by 6 runs late?
I mean, really, why the hell do you bring in Flores for a second straight day and essentially kill both of your lefties for tomorrow. Why do you use 4 relievers in a blowout? WHHHHY?

The more I watch the A's on tv, the more I wonder why Beane brought Macha back. It looks to me that sometimes he has no idea how to manage that team. Plus, would any of this be happening if Peterson was still the pitching coach?

Beane brought Macha back because he's a puppet.
Unfortunately, the only things that Macha REALLY controls (lineups and pitching changes) he manages to screw up. It's really frustrating.

I hope that when things stablize in a month or so he can find a lineup and stick with it. |

Even so, there's absolutely no need for Kotsay to hit 3rd. Ellis too. I went to the Friday night game against the Giants and was absoutely beside myself when the lineup was announced. I think I scared some of the Giants fans around.
I *have* to believe that Macha has access to the same stats that I do. Probably even more. Even a simple look at the yahoo.com situational stats (watch for limited sample size, but still) shows that Kotsay has a .900 OPS this year hitting leadoff, and Ellis is at .631. Time to move Ellis down until he starts hitting again, no? Kendall is putting up a pretty crappy OPS no matter what, but he's getting on base. He needs to be at the bottom of the order too, though, because he's a friggin GIDP machine. Chavez is a monster from the 3rd spot this year. PUT HIM THERE UNTIL HE STOPS HITTING. Now I know this sounds crazy, but Crosby is 4-10 hitting 4th. Frank Thomas is putting up an .880 OPS hitting 5th. SWITCH THEM. Kotsay Swisher Chavez Crosby Thomas Johnson Payton Ellis Kendall Leave it like that until everybody gets healthy, then think about changing.

Sorry, man, but your logic is tragically flawed in a few places. One in regarding Kendall. You don't want him hitting 9th. You want him hitting 1st. He's basically a singles hitter, so he's not driving in anybody. He's also, as you said, a double-play machine. Yep, lead-off for the guy with the second-best OBP on the team. Now, if he reverts to the Jason Kendall that played for the A's last year, move him to 9th in a heartbeast. I don't want Crosby higher than 7th until he can get his OBP above .300. He's one of the main guys killing the offense right now. I like Chavez third. I like Swisher second, but I wonder if maybe those two should be bumped down a spot in favor of Kendall and Kotsay. Kendall, Kotsay, Swisher, Chavez, Thomas looks good. Maybe throw Ellis behind Thomas because Crosby sure as hell shouldn't be there. All I know is that as long as Johnson, Payton, Kielty, etc. are in this lineup regularly it's a total headache to try and come up with a good lineup. I hope Daric Barton will be ready soon. |

He wasn't actually hitting for power anyway. I don't want them to rush him, but, like, get him healthy and in the majors soon. |

Wow, not a peep during game time. Not that it mattered. Just another loss in the books. I didn't watch it.

Ugh. Barton's injury will have him out for awhile:

I guess now if they decide to send Johnson down, it'd be in favor an outfielder and Swisher would play first base. I'm guessing that won't happen though. There's also the matter of Milton Bradley coming back someday. |

This team makes me want to cry right now.
Or puke. Not sure which, really.

I still don't think there's any reason to worry. The A's clearly have much more, and more superior talent to anybody else in the division. The season isn't even 1/3 of the way through yet. Is Harden ever going to pitch again? |

So, um, I walked out of the room as Barajas was coming to bad, furious that Macha was leaving him in. I walk back in to see fireworks. I walk back out of the room to tell my dad some Rangers fan just won $25,000. Sonic should send Macha a bill for that. |
