Results

Game 1, October 2nd, 1963, Cleveland Stadium
Cleveland Takes World Series Opener, 7-5
The Cleveland Guardians powered past the visiting Milwaukee Braves, 7-5, in the opener of the World Series at Cleveland Stadium. Milwaukee center fielder Carl Yastrzemski went 2 for 4 with a home run, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the losing squad. The Guardians now lead the series 1-0.
Willie McCovey helped his team take an early lead with a 2-run home run. It came in the first inning, making the score 2-0, Guardians.
"They say the first rule of the playoffs is to win the home games," McCovey said afterward. "It feels nice, but it is kind of what we were supposed to do."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Cleveland Stadium in Cleveland.
Guardians win series 1-0

Game 2, October 3rd, 1963, Cleveland Stadium
Milwaukee Win Evens Series at 1
Behind a bravura effort from starter Jack Sanford, the Milwaukee Braves topped the Cleveland Guardians by the score of 9-0 and got their first win in the 1963 World Series. Sanford threw 9.0 innings of shutout ball for the Braves. The win moves Milwaukee into a 1-1 tie with Cleveland.
Sanford delivered a quality start for Milwaukee. The 6-foot-0 right-hander allowed no earned runs on 2 hits over 9 innings of work.
"We lost," Cleveland manager Dutch Holland said later. "We'll deal with it. The series isn't over."
Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at County Stadium in Milwaukee.
Series tied 1-1

Game 3, October 5th, 1963, County Stadium
Road Win Lifts Cleveland to 2-1 Lead in WS
Starter Chris Short was sensational for the Cleveland Guardians in his team's 5-2 triumph over the Milwaukee Braves in Game 3 of the World Series. Short pitched well, but Cleveland picked up the win to take a 2-1 lead in the series.
Cleveland used the timely hitting of Mike Hershberger to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Guardians on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Every team in baseball loses," Braves manager Bobby Hofman said. "We're in the playoffs and we still have the same guys that got us here. We'll bounce back."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at County Stadium in Milwaukee.
Guardians win series 2-1

Game 4, October 6th, 1963, County Stadium
Guardians Hammered by Causey, Drop Game 4 to Braves
Handed an opportunity to take a commanding lead in the World Series, the Cleveland Guardians could not close the deal.
Game 4 went into extra frames and the Milwaukee Braves emerged victorious, taking a 11-inning, walk-off win by the final score of 9-8. Milwaukee shortstop Wayne Causey was 3-6 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 in the win at County Stadium to drag the Braves back to parity. The clubs are now tied 2-2 in the best-of-7 series.
The clutch hit was provided by Tim McCarver. He delivered a walk-off run-scoring single off Ron Kline in the bottom of the 11th.
"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Causey said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at County Stadium in Milwaukee.
Series tied 2-2

Game 5, October 7th, 1963, County Stadium
Road Win Lifts Cleveland to 3-2 Lead in WS
In a pivotal Game 5, the Cleveland Guardians were hoping for a big game from starter Don Drysdale. They got one.
The right-hander shut out the Milwaukee Braves, proving to be the difference-maker as he led his club to a 1-0 victory. The Guardians took the 1-0 win over the Milwaukee Braves to seize a 3-2 lead in the best-of-7 series.
Drysdale allowed no runs over 9 innings. He also racked up 8 strikeouts.
Braves manager Bobby Hofman did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the World Series."
The next game is set to be played on October 9th, 1963 at Cleveland Stadium in Cleveland.
Guardians lead series 3-2

Game 6, October 9th, 1963, Cleveland Stadium
Cleveland Crowned Champions
It's party time in Cleveland. The confetti is flying and residents are smiling.
The Cleveland Guardians have reached the mountaintop, capturing the 1963 World Series today. They defeated the Milwaukee Braves 4-2 at Cleveland Stadium to officially wrap up the series 4-2.
Asked how it feels to be a champion, center-fielder Lenny Green was to the point.
"It feels great, like a million bucks. I'm so happy right now, not just for me but for all the guys," he said. "We put a lot of work into this and deserve to be champions."
The team is planning a victory parade and fan appreciation day later in the week. Cleveland finished the regular season 95-67 and claimed first place in the AL.

Bressoud Dominates in 9-3 Win over NL All-Stars
All-Star Baltimore Orioles' shortstop Eddie Bressoud had a night to remember.
Not only did he take the field with the game's best players, he was also a huge factor in the 9-3 AL victory over the NL All-Stars.
"We had a meeting before the game, and I was struck by the talent in the room. Old stars, young stars, it's a game I'll never forget," Bressoud said. "I talked to a few of my friends from back home, and they told me to go out and win the game for them. I'm sure they'll be thrilled."

All-Star Game MVP: SSP Eddie Bressoud (Baltimore Orioles)

1964 World Series results

1964 World Series: Cleveland Guardians vs. Philadelphia Phillies

Results

Game 1, October 7th, 1964, Connie Mack Stadium
World Series Game 1 Goes to Philadelphia Thanks to Orsino
The Philadelphia Phillies started the World Series in style, downing the visiting Cleveland Guardians at Connie Mack Stadium by a score of 15-2 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Phillies catcher John Orsino was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 3.
With Philadelphia leading 2-1 in the bottom of the second, Billy Williams hit a 2-run double off Cleveland pitcher Chris Short. It put the Phillies ahead 4-1.
"Before the game, I told the guys that what happened today would set the tone for the rest of the series," Guardians manager Dutch Holland said after the loss. "I'm really hoping I was wrong about that."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Connie Mack Stadium in Philadelphia.
Phillies lead series 1-0

Game 2, October 8th, 1964, Connie Mack Stadium
Cleveland Win Evens Series at 1
Behind a bravura effort from starter Dean Chance, the Cleveland Guardians topped the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 6-3 and got their first win in the 1964 World Series. Chance threw 8.2 innings of 6-hit ball for the Guardians. The win moves Cleveland into a 1-1 tie with Philadelphia.
Willie McCovey helped his team jump on top from the get-go. His first time up in the top of the first, he hit a 0-1 curveball from Bob Friend for a 2-run home run, to give Cleveland a 2-0 lead.
"We lost," Philadelphia manager Jimmy Outlaw said later. "We'll deal with it. The series isn't over."
The next game is set to be played on October 10th, 1964 at Cleveland Stadium in Cleveland.
Series tied 1-1

Game 3, October 10th, 1964, Cleveland Stadium
Phillies Hammered by Hart, Drop Game 3 to Guardians
Riding the 2-hit performance of third baseman Jim Ray Hart, the Cleveland Guardians stopped the visiting Philadelphia Phillies, 6-4, in Game 3 of the World Series. Hart was 2-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBIs and scoring once for the Guardians, who now lead the best-of-7 series, 2 games to 1.
A key moment came with two out in the bottom of the fifth. That's when Hart hit a fastball from Tony Cloninger for a 2-run home run, putting Cleveland up, 5-1.
"The rain was definitely not preferable," Hart said. "It worked out fine, I guess, but we'll be happy if we see the sun next time."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Cleveland Stadium in Cleveland.
Guardians lead series 2-1

Game 4, October 11th, 1964, Cleveland Stadium
Almost There: Cleveland On Cusp of World Series Triumph After 6-2 Win
The Cleveland Guardians got a strong performance from pitcher Denny Lemaster, who stymied the visiting Philadelphia Phillies en route to a win, 6-2, in Game 4 of the World Series. The Phillies could never get a bead on the left-handed Lemaster, who threw 8.0 innings allowing 2 runs. The Guardians now hold a 3-1 in the best-of-7 series.
Johnny Callison helped his team take an early lead with a 2-run single. It came in the first inning, making the score 2-0, Guardians.
Phillies manager Jimmy Outlaw did not take questions after the game, telling assembled reporters that he would hold a press conference "if and when we win the World Series."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Cleveland Stadium in Cleveland.
Guardians lead series 3-1

Game 5, October 12th, 1964, Cleveland Stadium
Philadelphia Wins to Cut Cleveland Lead to 3-2
Facing elimination, the Philadelphia Phillies were looking for a savior. For today, at least, Sandy Koufax delivered.
At Cleveland Stadium, the 28-year-old pitched a game for the ages to fend off the Cleveland Guardians and help the Phillies close their deficit in the World Series. Koufax threw a 9-inning, complete-game shutout in the 5-0 Philadelphia win, striking out 7 and allowing 4 hits. The Phillies now trail 3-2 in the best-of-7 series.
Koufax was sensational for Philadelphia. The left-hander, who finished 3rd in the NL in ERA with 3.25 in 1961, went the distance, shutting out the Guardians on 4 hits.
"Coach said he wanted eight innings, so I decided to do him one better," Koufax said later.
Game 6 is scheduled for Wednesday at Connie Mack Stadium in Philadelphia.
Guardians lead series 3-2

Game 6, October 14th, 1964, Connie Mack Stadium
Raucous Connie Mack Stadium Crowd Propels Phillies to 6-2 Victory; Series Tied at 3
The Philadelphia Phillies and the Cleveland Guardians will take the World Series to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation, the Phillies beat the Guardians, 6-2, at Connie Mack Stadium to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Philadelphia right-hander Bob Friend had a big role in the win. He threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball.
Philadelphia grabbed control in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and a runner on 3rd, Joe Cunningham delivered a run-scoring single, to make it 3-2, in favor of the Phillies.
"We're one game closer to our goal," Philadelphia manager Jimmy Outlaw said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Connie Mack Stadium in Philadelphia.
Series tied 3-3

Game 7, October 15th, 1964, Connie Mack Stadium
Cleveland Wins 1964 World Series!
It was all about winning for the Cleveland Guardians -- and win they did.
There was nothing fancy in how they went about it, players said, they just prepared mentally and physically and then went out and played baseball.
"We did the little things right and we did the big things right," said left-fielder Willie McCovey, who was named series MVP. "Now we're the league champions."
Cleveland defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 5-4 at Connie Mack Stadium to take the series 4-3.
"Sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you make your own luck," said Cleveland manager Dutch Holland. "We got lucky a few times, but mostly we did the right things by being prepared for each game and playing the game the way it's meant to be played."
Guardians win series 4-3

World Series MVP: LF Willie McCovey (Cleveland Guardians)
