3 June 2298 - College Square Reliever Busted in McSpice Scheme

College Square Nerd Ragers (Concord) relief pitcher Tim McCormac is feeling the heat after he and his business partners were arrested today in a spice scheme.

McCormac's company, known simply as Mc, Inc., was supposedly selling special herbs and spices mixes out of a College Square booth. After a number of people became sick, it was discovered that the "spices" were a collection of ground glowing mushrooms and a sour thistle that causes rashes and throat swelling.

Three people who consumed the McSpice Powder were in serious condition as of this report.

College Square and the Concord Radstags organization released the following statement: "We regret that one of our players, Tim McCormac, was involved in making dangerous and poisonous chemicals advertized as as consumable. We have cooperated with the Cambridge-area Brotherhood of Steel authorities and Mr. McCormac is in their custody during the remainder of the investigation."

3 June 2298 - Quincy Trades Parker for Relief Help

A trade was announced today at a press conference in Quincy. Not satisfied with their current roster, the Quincy Gunners general manager shook things up by acquiring 29-year-old RHP Nick Radio, 26-year-old CF Kevin Covert and 28-year-old LHP Jame Functionary from the Abernathy Adamantium for 26-year-old CF Flatface Parker, 20-year-old minor league RF Brotherseven Dadson and 21-year-old minor league C Tenthree Leader.

"We're a better team now," Gunners general manager Gunner Sprague said. "We've added several pieces to the puzzle."

Parker is hitting .307 this year with 8 home runs, 28 RBIs and 39 runs scored. He has 61 hits in 199 at-bats, 9 walks and a .341 on-base percentage. Parker has played in 42 games.

Functionary has been a top reliever for the Adamantium. In six appearances this season, he has not allowed a run in 6.1 innings pitched.

Covert is batting .311 with 0 home runs and 21 RBIs this season.

Radio was recently acquired by Abernathy from Vault 81 in a trade. At the time it was speculated that Radio may be used in a package to improve their overall team performance. The Adamantium had the 24th rated center fielder in Covert and feel they have improved their offense significantly with the acquisition of Parker.

The trades were processed this morning, but players were informed of the changes yesterday. Dadson and Leader both played for Postal Square yesterday, and will report to their new team, the Bunker Hill Gun Fu, today.

3 June 2298 - Adamantium Top Chemists in Extras, 7-5

Getting offensive support from Austin Engill, the Abernathy Adamantium topped the Sunshine Tidings Chemists, 7-5. Engill hit 2 home runs. He scored 3 times and drove in 4 for the Adamantium. The Chemists, now 19-24, have lost 5 straight.

Abernathy used the clutch hitting of Donny Kowalski to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a 2-run double in the top of the tenth inning to give the Adamantium the lead, 7-5. For the game, Kowalski had 1 single and 2 doubles in 4 at-bats.

"It was terrific getting this win," Kowalski said. "We put in a lot of work to do it."

Win or lose, Amari Nukes just keeps on getting base hits -- game after game after game. He picked up 3 more today and has now stretched his hitting streak to 20 games.

The Sunshine Tidings Chemists left fielder went 3-for-5 today, but it wasn't enough to win the game.

"It's amazing to watch him hit right now, but I don't think anybody's really mentioning it," teammate Frank Corsica said. "We just don't want to jinx him."

Nukes hit a two-run home run off Neil Watson in the 1st, flied out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, flied out in the 8th and singled in the 10th.

Presently Nukes is batting .400 and has collected 11 home runs, 36 RBIs, .413 OBP and scored 32 runs.

Newest acquisition for Abernathy, Flatface Parker was mostly irrelevant. He was 1 for 4 with a walk. He struck out twice.

3 June 2298 - Lady Killers End Erb's Streak

Dan Erb came rolling into today's game against the Starlight Lady Killers with a 20-game hitting string, but he left it on the field at Nuka Park.

The 21-year-old Concord Radstags left fielder went 0-for-2 against the Lady Killers as the Radstags fell, 7-5.

"I swung at a couple pitches I probably shouldn't have and I didn't swing at a couple I probably should have," he said, grimacing. "But that's what makes a hit streak so impressive in the first place -- it only takes a couple mistakes to end it all."

Thus far this year Erb has hit .333 with 6 home runs and 27 RBIs.

3 June 2298 - Seaweed drives in 3 runs as Red Rockets Squeeze Past Quincy

The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets did just enough to sneak past the Quincy Gunners, 14-13, at Red Rockets Stadium. Jamaica Plain right fielder David Seaweed, in particular, had a standout performance. Jamaica Plain reliever Mike Grille picked up the win, upping his record to 4-2. Ryan Kazarian absorbed the loss. The Red Rockets bumped their record to 22-21 with this latest triumph.

Alan Setter chipped in for Jamaica Plain with a 2-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the second baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 2 runs batted in.

"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Seaweed.

New Quincy acquisition Kevin Covert led off for the team in his debut. He was 1 for 6 with a double and three RBI. Radio also made his debut for the Gunners, allowing four earned runs on two hits with four walks and a strikeout in 1.1 innings pitched.

3 June 2298 - Dominant Performance by Hope in Atom Win

The Atom Cats beat the Warwick Mirelurks, 7-1, at The Homestead. Starting pitcher Matt "Ace in the Hole" Hope was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Atom, with the win, climbs to 13-30.

Hope scattered 3 hits over 8 innings for the Cats. With the win, Hope goes to 4-6 on the year with 68 strikeouts.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Hope said after the game.

3 June 2298 - Silver Shroud Score Late, Upend Synths, 6-4

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud weathered a fine game by Lexington shortstop Swift Hendrix to upend the Synths, 6-4, at Hubris Comics Park. Hendrix went 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Fort Hagen reliever Matt Demented picked up the win, raising his record to 1-1. Lawdog Whipple was tagged with the loss. The win boosted Fort Hagen to 23-20.

The Shroud entered the bottom of the seventh trailing 4-0. They scored two in the seventh and added four more in the eighth to claim victory.

Bixton Moore chipped in for Fort Hagen, stroking a crucial 2-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning. For the game, the pinch hitter went 1 for 1 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Moore.

3 June 2298 - Four Leafs Mow Down Party Boys, 9-3

Finch Farm starter Josh Dude pitched well against the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys at Finch Family Park. The right-hander led his team to a win, 9-3. In 6 innings, Dude surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Finch Farm has now won 3 in a row.

Peter Tatoeater had a critical at-bat with two out in the bottom of the sixth for Finch Farm. He came through with a bases-clearing triple to put Finch Farm in front, 6-2.

"I liked his command," said Finch Farm manager Wiley Boat. "Josh was throwing strikes."

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

4 June 2298 - Big Leaguers Pitcher Has Shoulder Injury

Natick Banks starting pitcher Mike Horne is out for the remainder of the season after suffering an injury while pitching batting practice.

Big Leaguers pitching coach Scott Nalley accompanied Horne to Diamond City where they met with team trainer Johnny Waters. After being unable to heal Horne with chems, it was determined that Horne would have to go to the Institute to exam his injury.

"It's not a simple injury that a stimpack can repair," Waters said. "We believe it may be a rotator cuff injury, and that will require surgery, which means he will have to miss the rest of the season."

Waters said that Horne was "devastated" but all were sure that he could recover from his injury and pitch again in 2299.

Horne grew up in Natick Banks, though his family was displaced for a while before returning after Nate Howard cleared the area and the Brotherhood of Steel patrolled it and kept it safe. He did not take an interest in baseball before watching the Natick Banks team in 2297 and then decided to tryout. His unique throwing motion, what Howard called a "sidearmer," made his pitches tough to hit. However, that same sidearmer motion may have contributed to his injury.

On the season, Horne is 6-1 with a 1.21 ERA in seven starts. He also pitched in relief in one game. He allowed six earned runs on 30 hits with 19 walks and 47 strikeouts.

4 June 2298 - Gun Fu Welch Decides to Retire

Dean Welch said he's looking forward to getting home to Bellingham, Massachusetts, to relax and unwind.

At age 37, the Bunker Hill Gun Fu player has announced he will retire at the end of the season.

"I'm thankful for my time in Boston Minor Union, but all good things must come to an end," he said.

4 June 2298 - Juras, Ninjas Clobber Knuckle Punchers, 11-1

The Egret Ninjas and Roxbury Knuckle Punchers completed their game despite the inclement weather.

The Egret Ninjas knocked off the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, 11-1, at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina. Jason Juras was a big reason Egret won. The third baseman was 3 for 3 with a home run, a triple, a double, and 2 walks, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 3. Picking up the win was Danny Cautious. He went 7 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. The right--hander struck out 2 and walked 2.

The Ninjas got an important contribution from left fielder Paladin Danse, who in the bottom of the third knocked a 1-1 fastball into left-center for a 2-run double. It was his 25th double of the season and put the Ninjas ahead, 3-0.

Said losing manager Squatty O'Sullivan: "Give the Ninjas credit. They took advantage of our mistakes."

At 20-24, the Ninjas claim second place in the South Charles Association Railroad League.

The bigger news was the end of Tony Acosta's 21-game hitting streak. The second baseman went 0-for-4 on the day.

"We felt if we could slow down Acosta, we would win the game," Ninjas manager Kip Bomb explained. "They really seemed to feed off his streak, so we tried to put more emphasis on shutting him down."

In 44 games this season Acosta is batting .347 with 67 hits and 4 home runs. He has scored 21 runs and driven in 20.

4 June 2298 - Matsumoto Hit String Snapped at 21

It just wasn't Hid Matsumoto's day.

The Jamaica Plain Red Rockets took the 4-2 win today over the Quincy Gunners, but the Gunners mound staff did what nobody else could -- they stopped the 21-game hitting streak of Red Rockets center fielder Hid Matsumoto.

"We might have focused a bit too much on stopping Matsumoto," Quincy manager Kevin Banner commented afterward. "He had a nice hitting streak going, but the Red Rockets have other hitters and they did their job today."

This year Matsumoto is hitting .332 with 14 home runs and 33 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .425 clip and scored 46 runs.

4 June 2298 - Pigeonfoot Helps Lexington Cruise to 13-3 Win

Lexington and Fort Hagen got after it at Hubris Comics Park.

The Lexington Synths coasted to a win over the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 13-3. Mike Pigeonfoot had a good day at the plate for Lexington. He went 3 for 3 with a double, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. At 20-24, the Synths are currently 4th in the North Charles Association Institute League.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Crooked Tostado? The Lexington right fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Synths on top, 2-0. For the game, Tostado had 2 doubles and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.

"We'll enjoy this win," said Pigeonfoot. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

4 June 2298 - Cats Fall, 9-5, to Gatekeeper, Mirelurks

The Warwick Mirelurks beat the Atom Cats, 9-5, at The Homestead. The Mirelurks got a fine performance from third baseman Tutton Gatekeeper, who went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Pem Pollack earned save number 8 this season. Warwick is 5th in the South Charles Association Minutemen League with a record of 21-22.

Patty Cuttooth hit a bases-clearing triple off Jesse Emacipated in the bottom of the second, which put the Mirelurks in front, 3-0. Cuttooth had 1 single, in addition to the triple. For the game, he went 2 for 5.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Cuttooth.

4 June 2298 - Jones Slugs Party Boys to 14-4 Win

The Nordhagen Beach Party Boys bested the Finch Farm Four Leafs by a score of 14-4, with right fielder Tomas Jones getting the main credit. On the day, Jones was 3 for 6 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3 for the Party Boys. The win puts Nordhagen Beach at 29-15 this season.

It could have been a different outcome for Nordhagen Beach, had it not been for Dustin Mart, the slugging first baseman. Mart contributed a 2-run home run in the top of the first inning to put Nordhagen Beach up, 2-0.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Mart told the Nordhagen Beach News.

4 June 2298 - Swatters Win at Vault 81, 8-6

Despite a fine performance by center fielder Aesed Hayjen, the Vault 81 Dwellers lost to the Diamond City Swatters, 8-6. Hayjen was 4 for 5 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2.

X10-44 Mannson picked up the win with 6.1 innings of work. He allowed 5 runs on 11 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 6-3. Josh Samm collected his 10th save.

It could have been a different outcome for Diamond City, had it not been for Danny Suarez, the 20-year old second baseman. Suarez contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the fifth inning to put Diamond City up, 6-4.

Suarez expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."

Diamond City is now 20-24.

June 2298 - News and Notes - June 5

Somebody hit the random stats increase jackpot! Also, a great selection for it since the first story character is named after my two favorite dogs ever: my dog for the family name and a friend's dog I helped nurse back to health after being hit by a car for the first name. Happy randomness puts a little more joy in my step among a busy week!

5 June 2298 - Lead Bellies' Cocoa Returns from Training

For the University Point Deathclaws' 2nd-round pick in the 2297 Rookie Draft, first baseman Barker Cocoa has not see much playing time. When given an opportunity for a 10-day training for an elite Brotherhood squad, Cocoa shuffled to the front of the line to volunteer, meaning he did not have a chance to see the field for the Boston Common Lead Bellies during that time.

Cocoa returned to Boston Common today looking different. He measured in at 20 pounds heavier than when he left, all of that in muscle.

"That was the most intense experience of my life," Cocoa said, looking heftier and more muscular. "We had to do all kinds of things I never imagined. One thing we had to do was wrestled a declawed and detoothed yao guai. That thing was massive and got the best of me, but I gave it my best."

According to Cocoa, the regiment was ten days of training for "power" warriors, which could include using power armor or assist those in them.

"We had a team of us that had to lift power armor off a mannequin," he said. "I didn't even know I was that strong."

Cocoa said that he was told that he could not speak of some of the training, but that the daily activities included lots of power training, four hours of perk training, seven meals a day accompanied with supplements that he could not name, and one daily shot.

"They also gave us a specialty perk training," Cocoa said. "For me, it was swatter training for the Big Leagues perk. I want to play baseball for a long time, so I spent four hours a day on strength and pinpoint swings. That means I had to be able to hit a dot on a moving target.

"As I was told to recite in training, I can now do double damage with a melee weapon, and gain a chance to cripple my opponent, or grand slam their head clean off! I just hope I do that to a baseball instead of a man, you know."

What does that mean for him in baseball?

"Well, don't tell [Lead Bellies hitting] Coach 'Ski' [Chuck Tomaszewski]," Cocoa laughed, "but I think I learned more about hitting in those 10 days than I did from him in 6 months."

5 June 2298 - Owens Pitches Gem as Yao Guai Beat Oberland, 2-0

Oberland dropped a 2-0 shutout to Danny Owens and the FHE Yao Guai at BosCom Circle today. The T-51s offered little resistance to Owens, who stopped them on 5 hits, fanned 4 and walked 4 and earned his first win of the season. The game was called with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning due to frequent radstorms. Both managers agreed the game was complete.

"It just felt right today," the left-handed Owens told reporters after the win. "Even with the radstorm, it didn't throw me off my rhythm."

This season Owens has compiled a 1-9 mark with a 6.90 ERA in 12 starts.

"If I had to be honest," FHE manager David Meatcook said, "I figured this one for a loss based on our pitching matchup. Danny proved me wrong today."

The matchup Meatcook referred to was Ownes, 0-9 to start the day, facing off against perhaps the best pitcher in the CBO, Sheng Kawolski, who started the day 7-0. Kawolski happened to lose today's duel, allowing one earned run on four hits with a walk and eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings.

The Yao Guai's Hose Wallcrawler hit his sixth home run of the season in the first inning to drive in what proved to be the winning run. Tyler Shoemaker hit an 8th inning home run off the T-51s' Joe Charlie to account for the second run.

The loss marked only the 10th of the season for Oberland (35-10), which no only holds a 1.5 game lead over Goodneighbor (33-11) for the top record in the South Charles Association and all of the CBO.

5 June 2298 - Radstags Fall, 9-5, to Violet, Lady Killers

Led by Zeldolph Violet, the Starlight Lady Killers downed the Concord Radstags, 9-5. Violet went 4 for 4 with a home run, 2 doubles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 5 for the Lady Killers. Starlight has now won 4 games in a row.

In the top of the third, with the bases loaded, Violet came to the plate. He drew a walk, driving in 1 run off Gwinnett Southie to put the Lady Killers in the lead, 3-2.

"Getting the win feels nice," said Violet. "More importantly, I had a good game."

5 June 2298 - Hancocks Top Deathclaws, 8-0, Behind Iddings

Goodneighbor left-hander Bruce Iddings pitched his team to victory over the University Point Deathclaws at Third Rail Stadium at S. Boston HS. The final score was 8-0. Goodneighbor now has a 6-game win streak.

Iddings, the Goodneighbor left-hander, went 8.2 innings, allowing no runs on 4 hits. He collected 11 strikeouts.

Iddings called the win the result of "everyone working in tandem."

5 June 2298 - Dwellers Earn 7-6 Win Against Swatters in 11

The Vault 81 Dwellers knocked off the Diamond City Swatters, 7-6, at CURIE Inc. Field in 11 innings. Deer Quickwalker was a big reason Vault 81 won. The right fielder hit 2 home runs. The winner was Danny Rocketman in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Josh Samm took the loss. Vault 81 is 19-26 and Diamond City, with the loss, 20-25.

The Dwellers procured the win, in large part because of first baseman Erns Gold. In the bottom of the 11th, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single. It was his only hit of the game but a clutch one.

Quickwalker called the triumph "a good team win."

5 June 2298 - Synths Win at Fort Hagen, 4-1

The Lexington Synths tallied a win at Hubris Comics Park, throttling the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 4-1. Starting pitcher Pete Pembroke was a big reason for his team's success. Pembroke picked up the win for Lexington, going 8 innings. He gave up 1 run on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 4-7. Doug Dee El recorded the save for Lexington, his 8th of the season.

Lexington relied on the hitting of Swat Diamond to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Synths on top, 2-0. For the game, Diamond had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Pembroke.

The Synths now have a record of 21-24 with the win over Fort Hagen.

5 June 2298 - Party Boys Come Up Short at Finch Farm, 5-4

The Finch Farm Four Leafs topped the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 5-4, in North Charles Association action at Finch Family Park. The standout performance belonged to Finch Farm pitcher and Methuen, Massachusetts, native Matt Pageturner. Pageturner, now 6-6, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 8 hits, while striking out 5, walking 5, and allowing 4 runs. The Four Leafs are now 22-23, while the Party Boys fall to 29-16.

The Party Boys had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Four Leafs going into the bottom of the second inning. That changed quickly when the 30-year old catcher Gary "Gary" Gary came to the plate. Gary hit a 2-run double on a 1-1 changeup from Nordhagen Beach hurler Tommy Beach. It was Gary's 13th double of the year.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Gary told the Finch Farm Observer.

6 June 2298 - Nukes Week's Best Player

At the age of 26, Amari Nukes might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. He cracked 9 hits in 13 at-bats to put up a .692 average. Lumphead collected no home runs, 2 RBIs and scored 4 runs.

2298 Week 9 - The Week in Review

Analysis

Our risers and fallers feature in last week's "The Week in Review" worked out well for us, so we are going to look at the same this week with the complete list of the Power Rankings.

In the biggest surprise, the Goodneighbor Hancocks are your new #1 in the Power Rankings, knocking the Oberland T-51s from the peak for the first time this season. We also saw a flip in the North Charles Association as Abernathy has jumped up two spots over Nordhagen Beach for #3 in the Power Rankings.

Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Goodneighbor Hancocks (147.0, +1)
2) Oberland T-51s (139.0, -1)
3) Abernathy Adamantium (122.0, +2)
4) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (117.0, -1)
5) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (106.0, ++4)
6) Starlight Lady Killers (106.0, +2)
7) Easy Town Assaultrons (106.0, -1)
8) University Point Deathclaws (101.0, --4)
9) Finch Farm Four Leafs (93.0, ++7)
10) Quincy Gunners (91.0, --3)
11) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (88.0, -1)
12) Egret Ninjas (86.0, +1)
13) Lexington Synths (86.0, -2)
14) County Crossing Bloodbugs (85.0, o)

23) Concord Radstags (51.0, -2)
24) Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (48.0, -1)

Risers

Goodneighbor (+1, LW - 2, TW - 1) - Even though they are only up one spot, that one spot has huge implications for the playoffs race in the last 60 games of the season. Goodneighbor is currently on a six-game winning streak, had a perfect 5-0 week, have tied three other teams for the best ten-game stretch with an 8-2 record, and only trail Oberland by 1.5 games after this weekend.

Finch Farm (+7, LW - 16, TW - 9) - The Four Leafs made the biggest move, jumping up seven spots in the Power Rankings, thanks in part to defeating Nordhagen Beach in a weekend series. The Leafs were 4-1 on the week, sweeping Sunshine Tidings in two by a combined 17-4 advantage and then beating the Party Boys two out of three. Finch Farm has now taken control of third place in the Brotherhood League, four games back of Easy Town for the wildcard slot. They have also been the best in the BL in the last ten games at 7-3.

Jamaica Plain (+4, LW - 9, TW - 5) - The Red Rockets are up four spots for the second-biggest jump of the week. Remember in the preseason when we doubted PAM's predictions? Well, if the Red Rockets continue on this hot streak, they are the third team to talk about in the NCA. Their 8-2 record in their last ten games ties with Goodneighbor for tops in the NCA, and their four-game winning streak is tied for second only behind the Hancock's six straight. Jamaica Plain went 4-1 this week, splitting their series with Vault 81 and then sweeping Quincy.

Fallers

Oberland (-1, LW -1, TW - 2) - The T-51s have a chink in their power armor. The T-51s dropped their first league series of the season, losing two of three to FHE, including seeing star Sheng Kawolski drop his first game of the season. Oberland has now lost or tied three of their last four series, and are on a season worse stretch of losing three of four and going 5-5 in their last ten.

University Point (-4, LW - 4, TW - 8) - The Deathclaws had the biggest fall in the Power Rankings as they see the wildcard race in the Minutemen League get much tighter. After being swept by Goodneighbor, the Claws dropped to 1-4 on the week and only lead Jamaica Plain and Quincy by two games in the battle for second place.

Fort Hagen (-1, LW - 10, TW - 11) - The Silver Shroud did not take a big tumble this week, but it is worth noting that the one-time first place team in the Institute League is now in third place, one game back of green hot Starlight. Fort Hagen went 2-3 this week, splitting with Easy Town and then dropping a home series to Lexington. In their last ten, the Shroud is 4-6. They just keep fading when the expectation was that they were the deepest team in the IL. With Abernathy staying hot and now the Lady Killer matching with each winning four straight, Fort Hagen will need to turn things around quickly to get back in the NCA title discussion.

The View from the BMU

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

7 June 2298 – Breakheart Banks

On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 and 2298 seasons, we will feature one of the settlements where teams in the Boston Minor Union play.

In our thirteenth trip around the BMU, we will go west of Walden Pond on the bank of the Saugus River to one of the Commonwealth's sadder tales of settlement despair, Breakheart Banks.

Settlement Disappeared - 2287

There is only a single terminal entry describing the Breakheart Banks location due north of Greentop Nursery and northwest of The Slog: "Breakheart Banks was a small family farm on the banks of the Saugus River, recently overrun by super mutants."

When Nate Howard first met the ghoul settlers of The Slog, they complained of a group of super mutants harassing them. When Nate went to investigate the disturbance, he found an adequate farmland overrun by the FEV-injected nusiances. Nate used the power of his sniper rifle to take them out from a distance and then found the mutilated remains of a family unknown to anyone else. Whether or not they were literate is unknown because the family had no terminal, paper, or books on the farm. The location was a nice one with natural defenses to the north thanks to a cliff leading to the Saugus River. Nate did what he needed to do, alerting the Minutemen that a settlement needed their help but no one was there to be helped. A new lot would need to move in to take over a nice corn crop spread.

The Slog was also thankful that one of the three trouble spots nearby was now clear, with the Saugus Ironworks and Hub City Auto Wreckers locations yet to go to make The Slog a peaceful place. Wiseman agreed to make a trade pact with the settlers nearby and with the protective help of the Minutemen.

Breakheart Banks - 2298

The area is still not widely populated but does provide important crops to the Charlestown and Cambridge regions of the Commonwealth. Regular caravaneers pick up the sowed crops as excess and drop off payments and supplies.

There are not current plans for expanding the region, but it may happen in time as more settlers move in. The defenses could always be expanded out, or new defense outposts could be built.

For now, though, this once death trap of a settlement is well-defended and in a good spot. Also, people receive regular supplies of Vim! which has become more popular than Nuka Cola in the Charlestown region, thanks in large part to the efforts of Small Bertha. Salem is part of the sponsorship, so Vim! is always well-stocked.

7 June 2298 - Concord-Diamond City Trade: Two Pitchers for Crawler

According to BNN there were mixed emotions by the players involved in the trade between the Concord Radstags and the Diamond City Swatters. As part of the deal, the Radstags swapped 34-year-old LHP Burt Oldshoe and 18-year-old minor league RHP Noah Williams to the Swatters getting 23-year-old CF Logan Crawler in return. The players indicated it was good to get a fresh new start in another city, but it was difficult to leave your friends on the old team.

Currently, Crawler has 3 home runs and a .253 batting average. This season marked his first in three years as a full-time starter for Diamond City. Recently called up Witcher Craft, the 1st round pick of the Swatters in the 2296 Rookie Draft, is expected to take his place as the full-time starter. Crawler may start off with College Square since he would be a back up in Concord to Ricky Ticky Laughy and would probably be behind Cram Garge on the bench.

Oldshoe has made 17 appearances in 2298 for the Radstags, going 2-0 with a 4.81 ERA.

Williams has appeared in eight games, starting six, for College Square. He has a 4-1 record with a save and a 1.22 ERA.

7 June 2298 - McCormac Confesses, Sentenced to Jail and Fined

College Square Nerd Ragers pitcher Tim McCormac confessed yesterday to leading a scheme to make money off his Mc, Inc. company of herbs and spices. He told the Brotherhood of Steel detectives that he had been behind the decision to add dangerous ingredients that made people sick. All have now recovered.

Because of his confession, McCormac will now serve a six-month sentence in a Brotherhood prison. He is also ordered to return payments to all who bought his products and pay restitution to those who became ill. It is expected that it will take some time to pay that money back since McCormac makes the minimum number of caps in the BMU as an undrafted free agent rookie.

The Brotherhood has prisoner work programs where they can earn caps to help pay off fines, so we are sure McCormac will enjoy sweaty, labor-intense days during his break from the BMU.

The Nerd Ragers have placed McCormac on the reserve/injury list for the remainder of the 2298 season.

7 June 2298 - Grognak Helps Natick Banks Outscore Trinity Plaza in 35-run Affair

The Natick Banks-Trinity Plaza matchup turned into a slugfest.

Natick Banks second baseman Mike Grognak had 4 ribbies while helping his team defeat the Trinity Plaza Snipers, 18-17. Natick Banks now has a record of 22-10 with the win.

Natick Banks relied on the bat of Oren Gep to get the win. The first baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Big Leaguers ahead, 18-17. For the game, Gep had 1 double and 2 home runs in 6 at-bats.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Gep.

Special Notes: Mike Grognak ties the MA regular season game record for runs with 4. Mike Grognak ties the MA regular season game record for doubles with 3. Oren Gep ties the MA regular season game record for RBI with 7.

7 June 2298 - Lifegivers Win at Breakheart Banks, 8-2

Union Hope Lifegivers starter Greg Mardis was on his game, helping his team beat the Breakheart Banks Behemoths, 8-2. Union Hope has 4 straight wins, Breakheart Banks 7 straight losses. The loss was extra disappointing for the Behemoths in their featured series of the season.

Union Hope relied on the hitting of Jason Templeman to pick up the win. The left fielder clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Lifegivers on top, 5-2. For the game, Templeman had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Union Hope manager Greg Tannenbaum.

7 June 2298 - Siltbean on Fire, 5-for-6 Against Charles View

Jeff Siltbean was at the head of a Fiddler's Green hit parade today at The Trailer Yard. The left fielder went to the plate 6 times and came away with 5 hits, sparking the T-60s to a 15-10 victory over the Charles View Cannibals.

"I told the guys in the dugout, just be thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere," the sweet-swinging Siltbean told reporters after the game. "Seems like it worked out well for us today."

Cannibals skipper Jeff Butt said later that the club gave up "too much plate."

"Not the way we planned it," he said. "Every hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."

Jeff Siltbean hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, grounded out in the 4th, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run double in the 8th.

This year Siltbean is hitting .352 with 4 home runs.

7 June 2298 - 5-Hit Blitz by Tattoo, Carrotflower, Still Lose

Dave Tattoo found his groove in today's game versus the Starlight Lady Killers and wrote his name in the league record book. His 5-for-8 performance at the plate unfortunately wasn't enough for the County Crossing Bloodbugs, as the club lost the game, 3-2, in 17 innings.

The 29-year-old center fielder told the press "it was one of those days where everything clicked."

"I made solid contact, and the ball dropped in," Tattoo said.

Dave Tattoo flied out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th, struck out in the 9th, singled in the 12th, grounded out in the 14th and singled in the 16th.

Tattoo's current batting average stands at .262 and he has chalked up 1 home run and 18 RBIs.

Some days you can't win for losing. Just ask Joel Carrotflower -- he was the King of Swing against the Lady Killers, but his Bloodbugs were beaten 3-2 anyway.

The County Crossing second baseman had 8 chances against the Starlight and delivered 5 hits in a sensational game.

"Unbelievable feeling," he told the press. "It felt great to be hitting like that, but a downer when you look at the scoreboard. 5-for-8 does wonders for your confidence, but it's a shame we couldn't win, too."

Joel Carrotflower flied out in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th, grounded out in the 9th, singled in the 11th, singled in the 13th, grounded out in the 16th and singled in the 17th.

Thus far this year Carrotflower has hit .342 with 4 home runs and 24 RBIs.

Special Notes: Tom Mastodon sets the NCA regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 8. Dave Tattoo ties the NCA regular season extra-inning game record for hits with 5. Hubris McBride sets the STAR regular season extra-inning game record for at bats with 8. Joel Carrotflower ties the NCA regular season extra-inning game record for hits with 5.

7 June 2298 - Kiwi Whitewashes Abernathy

It wasn't easy but the The Slog Ghouls made it look that way.

Starter David Kiwi shut out the Abernathy Adamantium despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the The Slog Ghouls cruised to victory, 5-0. Kiwi allowed only 6 hits and rang up 4 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win.

"It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up."

Kiwi has started 12 times this year, pitched 74.2 innings, fanned 51 batters and walked 13. His current record is 4 wins and 7 losses with a 3.86 ERA.

7 June 2298 - Oberland Befuddled by Rope in 7-0 Whitewash

19-year-old Jamaica Plain Red Rockets pitcher Will Rope had a strong outing against the Oberland T-51s at Red Rockets Stadium today, keeping them off the scoreboard the whole game. He struck out 8 in the 7-0 win and walked 0 while surrendering 7 hits. It was the second-straight shutout loss by the CBO's best team.

"Hopefully there will be plenty more of these in the future for us," he said.

In 12 starts this season Rope has rung up a 7-0 record and a 2.09 ERA.

7 June 2298 - Boohoo Goes Deep Twice, Helps Ninjas Top Deathclaws, 7-5

Egret and University Point duked it out and the Ninjas came out victorious.

The Egret Ninjas grabbed a win, 7-5, over the University Point Deathclaws at Fallon Field at Egret Tours Marina. Egret first baseman Kyle Boohoo hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Andy Helium recorded the save for Egret, his 9th of the season.

Boohoo contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Egret in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Boohoo took a fastball from Gary Stallworth and stroked the home run to right. His 8th home run of the season allowed the Ninjas to leap in front, 2-1.

In postgame comments, Boohoo told the Egret Herald: "Do people still doubt I give 100 percent?"

University Point has now lost 4 consecutive games.

7 June 2298 - Silver Shroud Top Party Boys, 6-2

Fort Hagen Silver Shroud starter Joey Dimes pitched a strong game against the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys at Hubris Comics Park, leading the Silver Shroud to victory, 6-2. Dimes went 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 5-7. The win elevated the Silver Shroud to 24-22.

Mark Miller, who is tied for 10th in the NCA in triples with 3, helped out the Fort Hagen cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring double. For the game, the second baseman went 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.

Miller attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."

8 June 2298 - BMU: Behemoths Bridle Lifegivers, 2-1

Breakheart Banks pitcher Daniel Harding did his part in helping his team beat the Union Hope Lifegivers, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. In 6.2 innings, Harding surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. At 14-19, the Behemoths find themselves in 4th place in the Commonwealth Association Dark Hollow Pond League.

Steve McGuckin, who leads the CA in runs scored with 32, aided the Breakheart Banks cause with a run-scoring ground out in the bottom of the fifth. For the game, the second baseman drew 2 walks.

"Daniel just went about his business, throwing strikes," said Breakheart Banks manager Tristan Schneider.

8 June 2298 - BMU: Wilde Packs a Wallop -- Hits 3 HR Against Mole Rats

Anyone wearing a glove and sitting in the bleachers for today's Commandos-Mole Rats game had a good chance at snagging a home run ball.

Haymarket Mall first baseman Hunter Wilde thrice sent eager fans scurrying to catch a souvenir, helping lead the Haymarket Mall to a 14-4 win over Forest Grove.

"Hey, the three homers were great, but I'm just trying to help my ballclub," Wilde said later. "I'm not going out there thinking I need another home run."

Wilde was 3-for-3 on the day with 4 RBI.

Hunter Wilde hit a solo-shot off Ben McEntire in the 2nd, walked in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Ben McEntire in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Jimmy "Peanut" Carty in the 7th and walked in a run in the 8th.

8 June 2298 - BMU: Kilgore Hits in 25 Consecutive Games

Somerville Place lost to the Boston Common Lead Bellies 7-4 at Water and Beds Park today, but Kurt Kilgore kept his consecutive-game hitting streak alive with 2 hits. The Sentry Bots center fielder has now delivered hits in 25 straight games.

"Kurt has a nice streak going, but the scoreboard tells the important story today," Somerville Place manager Limp Durn told reporters after the game. "We lost, no matter how many hits anyone had."
Kurt Kilgore hit an RBI single in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, flied out in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th.

In 33 games this year Kilgore has posted a .382 average and put up these numbers: 3 home runs, 35 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

8 June 2298 - BMU: Streak Finally Over, Garbageman Held Hitless

The Corvega Flamers did something to Steve Garbageman no team had done for the last 29 games -- they stopped him, ending his consecutive-game hitting streak. Unfortunately, they couldn't do the same to the Strongbacks, who came away with the 3-0 victory at Drumlin Diner Picnic Park.

"Hey, I knew it wasn't going to last forever," the 20-year-old left fielder said of the demise of his streak. "It was a good ride while it lasted."

This year Garbageman is hitting at a .426 pace with 3 home runs and 30 RBIs. He has played in 33 games and scored 25 times.

8 June 2298 - Metalbox Runs Hit String to 20 Straight Games

Jarrett Metalbox has been ripping hits every day for a while now, and nobody seems able to stop him. The Easy Town left fielder picked up 3 more today against the Sunshine Tidings Chemists and now has a 20-game hitting streak. The Assaultrons won the game 7-2.

"Definitely somebody's going to stop me at some point," he said later, chuckling. "I'll enjoy it for the time being."

Jarrett Metalbox flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and grounded out in the 9th.

To date, Metalbox has collected 90 hits for a .446 average. He has posted 10 home runs, scored 41 runs and driven in 51 runs. Metalbox is the current favorite to win the CBO Most Valuable Player award.

8 June 2298 - Hits Galore: Higinbotham Drills 6 Hits, Violet 5

Six hits in a game is a rare thing, but Starlight's Glenn Higinbotham made it happen today against the Bloodbugs. Everything came together at the plate for the 21-year-old center fielder as he collected 6 hits in 6 at-bats -- and led the Lady Killers to a 16-6 win at Beantown Brewery Stadium.

"I'm just out there to try and help the team win," Higinbotham said after the game, "I had some real good at-bats today. I made good, solid contact and luckily no one caught 'em."

Glenn Higinbotham hit a two-run single in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI triple in the 9th.

In the current season, Higinbotham has put up a .354 batting average with 70 hits, 8 home runs, 34 runs batted in and scored 37 runs.

Starlight first baseman Zeldolph Violet also went ballistic today with the bat. He hammered the County Crossing Bloodbugs for 5 hits.

Violet doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 2nd, flied out in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Boss Gentleman in the 7th, and doubled in the 9th.

This season Violet has delivered 56 hits in 189 at-bats for a .296 average with 9 home runs. He is getting on base at a .368 clip and his totals also include 46 RBIs and 31 runs scored. This year Violet has played in 47 games. Violet is the probable favorite to win the Rookie of the Year Award in the North Charles Association.

8 June 2298 - Red Rockets Rocked By T-51s, 10-1

A good performance from left fielder Prof Castillo helped the Oberland T-51s defeat the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets, 10-1. Castillo was 3 for 5 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 times and driving in 5 for the T-51s. Oberland, at 36-11, is 13 games up in the South Charles Association Railroad League.

With Oberland trailing 1-0 in the top of the third, Castillo hit a fastball from Ryan Hartley for a 3-run home run. It was his 13th home run of the season and put the T-51s ahead, 3-1.

"It feels good, just a great win all around," Castillo said after the game.

8 June 2298 - Silver Shroud Earn Much-Needed Sweep

Fort Hagen Silver Shroud pitcher All Day Acosta was in fine form, leading his team past the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 3-1. Acosta picked up the win for Fort Hagen, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 4-2. The save was credited to Curtis Thriceshot, his 15th.

Ben Pawlak dealt the Party Boys a blow in the bottom of the second. Batting with a runner on 1st and Fort Hagen leading 1-0, Pawlak, who is tied for 9th in the NCA in doubles with 17, hit a 1-2 cutter for a run-scoring triple.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Pawlak told the Fort Hagen Bulletin.

The win puts Fort Hagen at 25-22 this season.

9 June 2298 - Roxbury Knuckle Punchers Ship Beebe to Starlight

The Knuckle Punchers and Lady Killers have been engaged in a little wheeling and dealing. They have just concluded a trade with 19-year-old RF Damani Beebe and 20-year-old minor league SS Nick Maris going to Starlight in exchange for 20-year-old SS Silt Bean and a 1st round draft pick.

Starlight looks to be making a playoffs push for the 2298 season after an epic collapse in the second half of the 2297 season dropped them from one of the best records in the CBO to finish 28-32 and 4th in the Institute League.

"We cannot be happier to bring in Beebe," Starlight general manager Chris Gowest said. "Roxbury had just recently dangled him, and we felt giving up a prospect and a first-rounder was more than enough for bringing in a power hitter like Beebe. We're ready to see balls fly!"

Currently Beebe is batting .204 with 10 hits and 6 home runs. He has knocked in 10 runs and scored 10 times. Roxbury had been playing rookie Young Goodman over Beebe for most of the season. Beebe is a career .312 hitter. Last season he led the Railroad League in home runs with 24 and RBI with 85.

In this current campaign, Bean is hitting at a .235 clip with 1 home run and 1 RBIs.

9 June 2298 - 6-for-6 Game for Troike

Malden defeated College Square today at Nuka Cola Square. The star of the game for the Grognaks was right fielder Rich Troike. His hitting heroics included a 6-for-6 day, paving the way for Malden's 7-4 triumph over the Nerd Ragers. Rich Troike singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI double in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

Troike is batting .230 this season in 34 games with 3 home runs, 16 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He has 29 hits in 126 at-bats.

9 June 2298 - Lifegivers Win at Breakheart Banks, 3-1

The Union Hope Lifegivers topped the Breakheart Banks Behemoths, 3-1, in Commonwealth Association action at Mahkra Fishpacking Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Union Hope pitcher Cody Graca. Graca went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 9 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. His record improves to 2-2. Dan Redplate nailed down his 4th save.

The Lifegivers got a big at-bat from center fielder Chris Eakle. For the game, Eakle was 1 for 4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the first, with a runner on 3rd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 7th home run of the season gave Union Hope a 2-0 lead.

Graca called the win "a team effort."

With the victory, the Lifegivers upped their record to 18-16.

9 June 2298 - Hulk Propels Robotics Experts to 4-2 Win

Bill Hulk left his imprint on the 4-2 Galleria win against the Bunker Hill Gun Fu. Hulk, who is tied for 4th in the CA in total bases with 74, went 4 for 4 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Chris Deathclaw, the winner, improved to 3-3. He held the Gun Fu to 2 runs on 4 hits over 7 innings, while striking out 5 and walking 1. Earning his 1st save for Galleria was Bobby Hamilton.

Hulk had a timely hit for Galleria in the bottom of the seventh. With Bunker Hill trailing 2-1, he turned a first pitch fastball into a 2-run home run. It was his 4th home run of the season, making it 3-2, Galleria.

"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Hulk told the Galleria Observer. "You win just by scoring more runs."

Galleria now has a record of 19-15 with the win.

9 June 2298 - Big Leaguers Fall Short, 10-9, at Trinity Plaza

Natick Banks third baseman Tesla Petersen was sensational. He went 3 for 3 with 3 singles and 3 walks, while scoring 3 times, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Trinity Plaza beat the Big Leaguers, 10-9. Pray Tell finished the game for Trinity Plaza and earned his 8th save. The triumph puts Trinity Plaza at 20-14 for the season.

Trinity Plaza took a 9-8 lead on Roger Rivera's 4th home run of the season. The 2-run home run came off Natick Banks pitcher Lurch Toland in the bottom of the seventh.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Rivera told the Trinity Plaza Times.

10 June 2298 - Nannybot Sent to Showers

The Union Hope Lifegivers have disciplined rookie catcher Lukewarm Nannybot due to insubordination. He will miss the next 10 games, which probably will not matter since he had yet to see the field in 2298.

Nannybot was selected by the Lexington Synths in the 2297 Rookie Draft, #94 overall.

Nannybot is considered to be rigid in his routines to the level of stubborn. After Lifegivers hitting coach Jamie Bidwell suggest that Nannybot change his approach at the plate during batting practice, Nannybot supposedly told Bidwell to "suck a bloatfly's middle nut." He also pouted that it would not matter because he would not play anyway. That was enough for Bidwell and manager Jeff Tannenbaum to send Nannybot off the field for a time away from the game.

10 June 2298 - 3 Boomers for Fogcrawler

Fans are still buzzing after Nordhagen Beach whipped the Easy Town Assaultrons by the score of 9-6 today at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium.

Michael Fogcrawler smashed three home runs in the contest, a feat that would be a career highlight for most players and few fans ever see. In a tremendous performance, the left fielder bashed out 3 hits in 4 at-bats, had 5 RBIs, and scored 3 times. The three-home run performance pushed Fogcrawler (17) past teammate Dustin Mart (16) for the CBO lead in home runs. Three home runs also sets the North Charles Association regular season record.

At the postgame press conference, Fogcrawler said it was an "unbelievable" feeling to hit three home runs in a game.

"Getting one homer is special, and two is great," Fogcrawler said. "Three is just... wow."

Michael Fogcrawler hit a two-run home run off Angel Waterdrink in the 1st, struck out in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Angel Waterdrink in the 6th and hit a two-run home run off Ray Housecat in the 7th.

For the year Fogcrawler is batting .353 with 17 home runs.

10 June 2298 - T-51s Take Down Ninjas, 9-8, in 12

Paladin Danse did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Egret Ninjas from losing, 9-8, to the Oberland T-51s at Graygarden Park. Danse went 4 for 5 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. With the win, Oberland pushed its record to 37-11.

The T-51s procured the win, in large part because of right fielder Bloatfly Williams. In the bottom of the 12th, he produced the game-winning run-scoring single.

"Big win," said Williams.

Oberland fans held their breath as Jonathan Abern left yesterday's Ninjas-T-51s contest with an injury. After the game, the team's medical staff said that the 20-year-old second baseman had suffered a pinched nerve while colliding with a player at a base. It's estimated that he will be out 2-3 weeks.

Hitting .360 to date, Abern has 4 home runs and 27 RBIs. He has played in 48 games.

10 June 2298 - Nukes Keeps Hit Streak Alive

The Sunshine Tidings Chemists stopped the Abernathy Adamantium today 5-3 and Amari Nukes collected a base hit yet again. The Sunshine Tidings left fielder finished with 2 hits to run his consecutive-game hitting streak to 25.

"I want to get a hit every time up," a visibly excited Nukes told reporters after the contest. "I want to get a hit every game I play. Right now, I feel like I could take this streak to 100 games."

Amari Nukes flied out in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, singled in the 7th and flied out in the 9th.

This year Nukes is batting .405 with 79 hits and 11 home runs. He has scored 34 times and has batted in 42 runs.

10 June 2298 - Luttrell Excels in 4-0 University Point Win

Jukebox Luttrell was instrumental in his team's 4-0 triumph over the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets. The center fielder went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the University Point Deathclaws. Quentin Malone picked up the win, improving his season record to 6-6. He struck out 7 in 8 innings. The win gives University Point a season record of 27-21.

University Point took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Luttrell hit a 2-run home run. His 12th home run of the season made the score 2-0, University Point.

"We'll enjoy this win," said Luttrell. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."

10 June 2298 - Lady Killers Stay Hot, Beat Silver Shroud, 7-4

The Starlight Lady Killers downed the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 7-4, at Valentine Detective Agency Field. Damani Beebe led the way, going 3-for-5 for Starlight. Larry Undertaker earned the save, his 14th. The win puts Starlight at 27-21 this season.

Zeldolph Violet, who is tied for 3rd in the NCA in doubles with 22, aided the Starlight cause with a run-scoring walk in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the first baseman drew 1 walk.

"I believe in our guys," said Starlight skipper Eric Bendure. "I like the energy they're playing with."

Great result for the Boys vs Easy Town. I do like the way the season is going - we've had good pitching and good hitting. Promising.

If the Boys win the series, they put a little distance between themselves and the Assaultrons. In the end, I feel they will take the division, but I'll be interested to see what moves each team makes in the next month to anchor their playoff positions.

11 June 2298 - Batting Practice Accident Injures Fogcrawler

First the bad news: Nordhagen Beach's Michael Fogcrawler has a finger sprain, an injury he sustained while getting beaned during batting practice. Now the good news: the injury, which was thought at first to be more serious, will keep the Party Boys left fielder out of action for only about one week.

Just one day after the ecstacy of the best game of his young career, Fogcrawler now can only root his team on in their important series versus Easy Town.

This season in 48 games, Fogcrawler has hit at a .353 clip with 65 hits, 17 home runs, 56 RBIs, and 36 runs scored.

11 June 2298 - Homebody, Go Power Ghouls Offense

Nick Homebody had a big hand in The Slog's 14-4 triumph over County Crossing. He rattled off 4 hits in 4 at-bats, scoring 2 times and knocking in 2 runs. Millioncap Go also had an explosive day, falling just a single shy of hitting for the cycle. He was 3 for 6 with a double, a triple, and a home run, with four runs scored and three driven in.

The winning pitcher was Edwin Mass. He's now 3-5. He went 6 innings, allowing 4 runs on 9 hits for the Ghouls. The 5th-place Bloodbugs have lost 4 consecutive games.

C.T. Woodard added two doubles for The Slog, going 4 for 5 on the day with a run and three RBI.

Joel Carrotflower and Biter Trout each had three hits for the Bloodbugs. Carrotflower had a double, scored a run, and drove in a run. Trout scored twice.

11 June 2298 - Dwellers Throttled by Swatters, 4-1

Diamond City picked up a win at The Great Green Jewel, toppling the Vault 81 Dwellers, 4-1. Pitcher Mark Stuhlsatz was one of the reasons the Swatters triumphed. The winning pitcher was Stuhlsatz, now 5-6. He tossed 8 innings of 4-hit ball while walking 2 and fanning 6. The losing streak for Vault 81 has now reached 4 games.

The Swatters got a big at-bat from first baseman Jeffrey Curatolo. For the game, Curatolo was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Diamond City a 3-1 lead.

"Enjoyed this one," Curatolo told the Diamond City News. "But it's back to work tomorrow."

11 June 2298 - Victory Over Assaultrons Takes Nordhagen Beach to 31-18

With center fielder Ryan Combs leading the charge, the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys defeated the Easy Town Assaultrons, 11-6, at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium. Combs, who is tied for 2nd in the NCA in stolen bases with 16, was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 4 runs, tying him for a Nordhagen Beach game record. The North Charles Association Brotherhood League-leading Party Boys have a record of 31-18 and now a three-game lead over Easy Town in the Brotherhood League.

Nordhagen Beach took a 6-3 lead on Brian Masterson's 9th double of the season. The bases-clearing, three-run double, which Masterson hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Easy Town pitcher Marc Woodsman shaking his head.

"We got the victory," said Combs. "That's all that matters at the end of the day."

The Party Boys added five more runs in the bottom of the 8th to extend their lead to 11-3 before the Assaultrons scored three in the 9th for the final 11-6 tally.

The big story of the morning was losing Michael Fogcrawler to a finger injury which could not be cured by chems nor stimpack. Jonathan Angelou got his first start in Fogcrawler's place, getting only one hit, but it was a big one. In the 8th inning with two on, Angelou went yard off reliever Beanpole Callaway. Angelou had eight home runs this season with Greentop Nursery.

"Huge win," Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson. "After our bad news this morning, it was nice to still come out and hit the ball. Hats off to Angelou, too. That home run was a big hit for the kid."

11 June 2298 - Silver Shroud Win at Starlight, 7-3

The Fort Hagen Silver Shroud bested the Starlight Lady Killers by a score of 7-3, with second baseman Mark Miller getting the main credit. On the day, Miller went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once for the Silver Shroud. Earning his 16th save of the year was Curtis Thriceshot. With the win, Fort Hagen pushed its record to 26-23.

Miller had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 2-2 fastball from City Moore, he banged a grand slam home run to right-center, giving the Silver Shroud a 7-3 lead. It was the 2nd home run of the year for Miller.

Miller told a Fort Hagen Bulletin reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.

The Shroud's win broke a seven-game winning streak for Starlight, which had yet to lose in the month of June. Fort Hagen is now a game back of the Killers and two games back of the suddenly-reeling Abernathy Adamantium, which lost their fourth straight game today.

12 June 2298 - Diamond City-Starlight Trade: Six Pack for Haines and Esparza

Both sides appear content with the trade finalized today that will send 30-year-old RHP Ricky Six Pack to the Starlight Lady Killers, while the Diamond City Swatters will receive 19-year-old minor league RHP Danny Haines and 18-year-old minor league RHP Raul Esparza.

"This is a move that filled a few gaps in our future roster," said Tommy Doddy, Swatters general manager.

For his part, the Lady Killers GM said the trade was made "in the best interest of our organization's playoff push." BNN analysts reported that on paper the trade seemed to be a plus for both ball clubs. The players involved are expected to join their new teams for the next scheduled game.

Six Pack has taken the mound for 12 relief appearances this season, nailing down no saves while notching a 1-0 record with a 2.77 ERA. The reliever has limited opposing batters to a .213 batting average.

12 June 2298 - Lacy Helps Diamond City Cruise to 13-3 Win

The Diamond City Swatters defeated the Vault 81 Dwellers, 13-3, at The Great Green Jewel. Diamond City right fielder Wayne Lacy had a superb performance. He was 4 for 4 with 2 home runs, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 4 runs and drove in 5. Tyler Powers picked up the win, improving his season record to 5-6. He struck out 8 in 7.1 innings. The Swatters have now won 4 straight.

Lacy contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Diamond City in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 1-0, Lacy took a slider from Godfather Hough and stroked the home run to right. His 18th home run of the season allowed the Swatters to leap in front, 2-1.

Lacy told a Diamond City News reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.

12 June 2298 - Wallcrawler Swats 2 Homers, Yao Guai Top Knuckle Punchers, 7-4

The FHE Yao Guai stopped the Roxbury Knuckle Punchers, 7-4, at Atomatoys Stadium at Roxbury. The Yao Guai got a big game from Hose Wallcrawler, who went 4 for 4 with 2 home runs, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. FHE reliever Jonathan Drumlin picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Scaredy Cat Talbott shouldered the loss. The Knuckle Punchers, now 14-36, have lost 4 straight.

Adam Crook aided the FHE cause with a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth. For the game, the left fielder went 2 for 5 with 2 singles.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Crook.

12 June 2298 - Deathclaws Walk-off Jamaica Plain, 9-8

The University Point Deathclaws topped the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets by the score of 9-8, with the largest share of the credit going to center fielder Jukebox Luttrell. Luttrell slugged 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice for the Deathclaws. With the win, University Point pushed its record to 29-21.

Flunk Domino hit a two-run home run off Steven Rockman (2-4) in the ninth to tie the game, 8-8. Ryan Morris was the walk-off hero for University Point. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Deathclaws third baseman hit a dramatic solo home run to send the teams home.

"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Morris.

Carney Cornseed was the top hitter for the Red Rockets. He was 2 for 4 with two home runs, a walk, two runs, and four RBI.

12 June 2298 - Party Boys Sweep Assaultrons, 4-0, Behind Arthur

Nordhagen Beach Party Boys starter Chet Arthur pitched a strong game against the Easy Town Assaultrons at Slocum's Joe Seaside Stadium, leading the Party Boys to victory, 4-0. The triumph puts Nordhagen Beach at 32-18 for the season.

The Assaultrons had trouble solving Arthur, who surrendered no runs on 6 hits over 8.1 innings.

"Enjoyed this one," Arthur told the Nordhagen Beach News. "But it's back to work tomorrow."

There were no outstanding hitters for Nordhagen Beach on the day, though Tomas Jones was 1 for 4 with a run and two RBI. Four players hit doubles on the day.

12 June 2298 - Starlight Wins, Beebe goes 4-for-5

The Starlight Lady Killers downed the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 8-5. The hitting star was right fielder Damani Beebe. Beebe was 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3 for the Lady Killers. The save went to Larry Undertaker, number 15 for him. With the victory, the Lady Killers upped their record to 28-22, while Fort Hagen dropped to 26-24.

Beebe had a game-changing double in the bottom of the eighth. On a 1-2 slider from Matt Demented, he banged a run-scoring double to left-center, giving the Lady Killers a 6-5 lead. It was the 3rd double of the year for Beebe.

"You can't get too high when things go well, or too low when things go bad. Right now, I'm just happy we got the win," Beebe told the Starlight Times.

13 June 2298 - BMU: Hulk Selected Top Player

At the age of 27, Bill Hulk might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Galleria first baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .667 batting average. For his efforts Hulk collected the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week Award.

He racked up 8 hits in 12 at-bats, 1 home run and 6 RBIs last week in 3 games.

19-year-old Hunter Wilde made a few Haymarket Mall headlines during this past week as the rookie first baseman proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Massachusetts Association officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.

He cracked 5 hits in 10 at-bats to put up a .500 average. Wilde collected 4 home runs, 8 RBIs and scored 5 runs.

Currently Wilde is batting .421 with 5 home runs, 10 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

13 June 2298 - Higinbotham Wins NCA Honor

It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the North Charles Association, but last week Glenn Higinbotham of the Starlight Lady Killers reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Higinbotham rocked opposing pitching for a .560 average (14-for-25), no home runs and 7 RBIs to come away with the award.

Looking at his stats this year, Higinbotham has compiled a .355 batting average, while hitting 8 home runs and driving in 36 runs. He has played in 50 games and scored 41 runs.

13 June 2298 - Week's Premier Performer Honored by SCA

One of the league's most exciting young players, Wayne Lacy of the Diamond City Swatters earned himself South Charles Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games.

For the week the 19-year-old right fielder had a lofty .522 average (12-for-23), collecting 5 home runs, 8 RBIs and 9 runs scored.

13 June 2298 - BMU: Rayguns Win at Charles View, 4-1

The Charles View Cannibals went down to defeat to Will Wylde and his Cabot House teammates. The final score was 4-1 in favor of the Rayguns. Wylde went 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 2. His record improves to 3-2. Cabot House now sits in third place in the Massachusetts Association Downtown Boston League at 17-18.

It could have been a different outcome for Cabot House, had it not been for Jake Doucette, the top prospect . Doucette contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Cabot House up, 3-1.

Wylde called the win "a collective effort."

13 June 2298 - BMU: Gless, Robotics Experts Beat Night People, 11-4

The home crowd had a good time watching the Greentop Nursery Night People and Galleria Robotics Experts get after it.

The Galleria Robotics Experts topped the Greentop Nursery Night People by a score of 11-4. Leading the way was left fielder Nate Gless. Gless was 2 for 2 with a home run, a double, and 3 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 5 for the Robotics Experts. With the win, Galleria pushed its record to 20-15.

Gless contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Galleria in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 4-2, Gless took a curveball from Emmett Frito and stroked the home run to left. His 1st home run of the season allowed the Robotics Experts to leap in front, 6-4.

"Nice to tuck this win away," said Gless.

13 June 2298 - Jerky Hits 2 home runs in Action Boys Win

The Postal Square Action Boys relied on the hitting of center fielder Jessie Jerky to stop the Haymarket Mall Commandos, 9-2. For the game, Jerky was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Rickey Schoolmaster got credit for the win, improving to 2-3. He allowed 2 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings. The win puts Postal Square at 14-21.

Jerky had a key at-bat for Postal Square early in the game. With a runner on 2nd, he hit a 2-run home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and gave Postal Square an early 2-0 lead.

"I wish every win came this easy," said Jerky.

2298 Week 10 - The Week in Review

Analysis

For a while, we are sticking with Risers and Fallers.

Oberland returns to its rightful place at the top of the Power Rankings this week, while Abernathy takes a tumble back in the Rankings. Roxbury remains as the bottom team of them all. The Slog was this week's biggest riser, up nine spots, while Jamaica Plain fell nine spots.

In other comings and goings, Nordhagen Beach retook control of the Brotherhood League with a resounding sweep of Easy Town. The Assaultrons must lick their wounds and get right back up since one of our featured teams this week, The Slog, is now just two games back in the BL wildcard race.

The Institute League looks like it will feature the most exciting race from start to finish. Abernathy holds just a one-game lead over Starlight and a three-game lead over Fort Hagen. Meanwhile, Lexington is not out of it yet at 24-26, just five games back.

The Minutemen League and Railroad League look like they are embroiled in a battle for the wildcard spot. In the RL, no team wants to take control of the second spot. Diamond City currently holds the second spot and will be featured below. Vault 81 dropped five straight and Egret dropped three.

After Jamaica Plain's poor week, both University Point and Quincy seem to be in a two-way battle for the ML wildcard spot. The Deathclaws swept the Red Rockets in a series that could have kept the race at three teams.

Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization:

Teams (Total Points, Tendency):
1) Oberland T-51s (146.4, +1)
2) Goodneighbor Hancocks (139.2, -1)
3) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (120.2, +1)
4) Starlight Lady Killers (107.8, +2)
5) Abernathy Adamantium (105.4, -2)
6) University Point Deathclaws (105.4, +2)
7) The Slog Ghouls (104.6, ++9)
8) Quincy Gunners (101.8, +2)
9) Easy Town Assaultrons (97.8, -2)
10) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (92.6, +1)
11) Diamond City Swatters (92.4, ++7)
12) Warwick Mirelurks (89.2, ++3)
13) Lexington Synths (87.4, o)
14) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (86.0, --9)
15) FHE Yao Guai (82.2, +2)
16) Finch Farm Four Leafs (81.8, --7)
17) Egret Ninjas (77.8, --5)
18) Salem Witch Hats (74.6, +2)
19) Concord Radstags (72.6, ++4)
20) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (68.6, +1)
21) County Crossing Bloodbugs (66.6, --7)
22) Vault 81 Dwellers (59.4, --3)
23) Atom Cats (56.6, -1)
24) Roxbury Knuckle Punchers (42.4, o)

Risers

The Slog (+9, LW - 16, TW -9) - With a sweep over IL first place team Abernathy and a road sweep of league rival County Crossing, the Ghouls are now fully in the wildcard race. Before it seemed that the BL would come down to an easy 1-2 combo of Nordhagen Beach and Easy Town. However, as we approach the halfway point, suddenly The Slog is looking like its 2296 prominence. There is still a lot of season left, but a slew of victories is always a step in a positive direction towards a playoff push.

Diamond City (+7, LW - 18, TW - 11) - The Swatters were 4-1 on the week after dropping their first game at Warwick. They rebounded with a 15-inning win and then a sweep of Vault 81 where they limited the dangerous Dwellers' offense to just eight runs in three games. Potential MVP candidate Wayne Lacy helped push his team forward by earning South Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He leads the Swatters in batting average (.381, 2nd in SCA), homers (18, 1st in CBO), and RBI (55, 2nd in SCA).

Fallers

Finch Farm (-7, LW - 9, TW - 16) - Where the Four Leafs rose seven spots last week, they dropped right back down those same seven spots this week. This week they were 1-4 with the only winning coming in Game Two at Salem. It was an especially brutal week after dropping two to 4th place Lexington in the IL and last place Salem in the BL. The Four Leafs' playoff chances are nil unless they can consistently beat the lower half teams they play.

County Crossing (-7, LW - 14, TW - 21) - The Bloodbugs did even worse than their league mates, going 0 for 5 in games this week, putting them in a last-place tie with the Witch Hats. In all fairness, County Crossing played the two hottest teams in the CBO this week, Starlight and The Slog. After a 17-inning defeat at the hands of the Lady Killers, County Crossing could not regain its momentum. They have now lost 6 of 7.

The View from the BMU

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

14 June 2298 – Charles View Ampitheater

On certain Tuesdays for the 2297 and 2298 seasons, we will feature one of the settlements where teams in the Boston Minor Union play.

In our fourteenth trip around the BMU, we will go to the location of a one-time cult of the Commonwealth, Charles View Ampitheater.

Pre-War Opera House on the South Bank

According to a terminal found in the Boston public Library, Charles View Ampitheater "is an outdoor concert venue on the Charles River Esplanade in the Back Bay section of Boston, Massachusetts. Built in 1939-40, it is one of the city's prominent examples of Art Deco architecture." It is "best known for hosting the Boston Pops Orchestra annually for the Boston Fourth of July celebration, but is also used for free concerts most weekends and many weeknights during the summer months. The grass pavilion in front of the stage has no permanent seating."

The terminal goes on to read, "The original, wooden shell was built in 1928 as a temporary venue for the Pops with expectations of construction of a permanent structure in the near future. It was first used for a concert on July 4, 1929, with Arthur Fiedler conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra. A second, temporary shell, made of metal, was built in 1934.

"The permanent shell was designed by architect Richard J. Shaw, and was dedicated on July 2, 1940. In preparation for its 50th anniversary in 1991, it underwent significant renovation and repair along with modernization of its acoustics by Boston architecture firm Finegold Alexander. Bostonian Howard Brickman, a master craftsman specializing in wood floors, re-created the intricate interior paneling of the shell by hand.

"Uses of the Hatch Shell include concerts, movie showings and speeches, and as a meeting place for large events, such as AIDS Walk Boston and the Larry Kessler 5K Run. The grass pavilion is used for picnics, casual sports and sunbathing, in a manner typical of urban parks.

"The Hatch Shell underwent a $2.4 million renovation in 2018, the first since 1989. The exterior panels of the shell were replaced, which required a laser scan of the shell and fabrication of 673 separate panels in 93 different shapes."

Pillars of the Community

Nate Howard had an interesting encounter with the cult of the amphitheater when he got involved with the Cabots. He learned that Emogene Cabot was involved with the cult.

According to a terminal on the situation, "This pre-War entertainment venue is the base of operations for the cult known as the Pillars of the Community. This small-time religious movement is made up of initiates and preachers. . . . The cult leader, Brother Thomas, however, will try to convince [people] to join their group. He will make grand statements about improving the lives of everyone in the Commonwealth. If one agrees to go ahead and join the group, Thomas will take the [person] into the back room of the amphitheater and ask them to forfeit all of their worldly possessions in favor of the Pillars of the Community."

Further information about the cult showed, "Presenting themselves as a new movement that is quickly gaining traction in the Commonwealth, the Pillars of the Community seeks to gain new followers through the distribution of fliers to nearby settlements. Its missionaries promise those who join a 'better life' and welcome all who come to the Charles View Amphitheater seeking the 'truth' about the troubled world. A man named Brother Thomas leads the cult and personally sees all new initiates who are looking to become members. He sometimes pays a visit to settlements to spread the word about the Pillars, and encourages all new members to voluntarily give up all of their 'worldly possessions' as a first step toward 'salvation.'

"A trained eye can discover that the cult is in reality a cover for a scam operated by Thomas. He uses his fliers and message of false hope to lure unsuspecting wastelanders to the amphitheater so he can extort them for their possessions, threatening to kill them unless they hand over everything peacefully. In fact, locals are annoyed of hearing about the conman's 'salvation racket,' and Ham eventually had to throw Thomas out of the Third Rail in Goodneighbor because he was bothering customers. He even has caused trouble for the affluent Cabot family by kidnapping and holding their daughter Emogene after a 'disagreement' over joining the Pillars of the Community in which she turned violent. Due to the effects of a mysterious serum she uses, it took the entire cult combined to get Emogene subdued and locked up. Eventually, the Cabots send their new mercenary, [Nate Howard], to rescue Emogene after finding out that she ran away with Thomas."

After the Pillars Were Dispatched

Nate Howard had no choice to dispatch the cult once it was discovered that Brother Thomas would not release Emogene. Though the cult became violent, Nate used tactics to separate the cult leaders from the victims. Some leaders had to be taken down like Brother Thomas, while others were captured along with the members of the cult.

Nate then used that opportunity to show them Brother Thomas' own words. All of them denied but ultimately came to realize that they were conned. With the help of counseling and good old chems, Nate was able to convince some to follow the path of the message of helping others without the need for people to give all of their possessions.

The Pillars of the Community then became more of a movement in line with the Minutemen, and many of the original cult members still reside at the Ampitheater.

A few of their missions these days include helping distribute goods and medicines to fringe settlements and providing counseling to those who have tragically lost loved-ones to raiders and creatures of the wastes.

June 2298 - News and Notes - June 14

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

14 June 2298 - T-51s Win Game One in Battle for CBO Supremacy

Oberland T-51s starter Gerald Jerry pitched a strong game against the Goodneighbor Hancocks at Graygarden Park, leading the T-51s to victory, 7-2. Jerry got the win, improving to 8-5. He allowed 8 hits and walked 1 over 8 innings. Jerry allowed 2 runs. Oberland is now riding a 5-game win streak.

Curtis Slingshot was 1 for 3, while adding 2 RBI for Oberland. The 32-year old first baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the third. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Bill Little. It was his 43rd RBI of the season.

"I like our mindset right now," said Oberland manager Dirk Steadyhand.

The win is the 40th of the season for Oberland and gives the T-51s a 3.5-game lead over Goodneighbor in the race for the CBO's best record.

14 June 2298 - Assaultrons Cuff Synths, 11-2, with Giant 8th

The 11-2 Easy Town win over Lexington was due largely to Joe Ransom. The Assaultrons first baseman went 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. With the win, Easy Town raised its record to 29-22.

The Assaultrons entered the 8th inning trailing 2-1 but used a burst of offense off the Synths pitching to score 10 runs in the inning on the way to the win. Easy Town used the timely hitting of Matt Stoops to seize the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Assaultrons on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We did more than enough to get the win," said Ransom.

Easy Town defeated Lexington, but saw the 23-game hitting streak of Assaultrons left fielder Jarrett Metalbox snapped -- the Synths held Metalbox hitless in 4 at-bats.

"I enjoyed the streak," he said in a BNN interview after the game. "It's great in one way, but the day-to-day pressure to keep it going can be tough to handle, too. The main thing is we got the win today. That's all that really counts."

Metalbox is currently batting .436 with 10 home runs and 52 RBIs.

14 June 2298 - People Leads Charge, Starlight Blasts Four Leafs

The Starlight Lady Killers put together a convincing win at Valentine Detective Agency Field, defeating the Finch Farm Four Leafs, 15-3. Justin People was one of the hitting stars. He was 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 3 for Starlight. Starlight raised its record to 29-22 with the win.

Hope Scrapper also had a big day for Starlight. He was 2 for 4 with a double, a home run, a walk, three runs, and four RBI.

In the bottom of the third, Jesus Church delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and runners on 2nd and 3rd, the Starlight left fielder hit a 2-run single, putting the Lady Killers in front, 15-3.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Church.

14 June 2298 - Ninjas Snatch Late Win

The Egret Ninjas faced a tough opponent in Quincy pitcher Matt Ranger, but did just enough to pull out the victory at The Stone House by a final score of 8-6. Ranger went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. Egret pitcher Surrender Hendrickson got the win, upping his record to 1-1. Wick Prater got the loss. The 'W' lifts Egret's record to 24-27.

The Ninjas entered the top of the 9th trailing 6-3 after Quincy scored three in the bottom of the 8th. Five runs later, and the Ninjas had the lead. Egret used a timely hit from Kyle Boohoo to get the win. The first baseman stroked a bases-clearing, three-RBI double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Ninjas ahead, 8-6. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"Some of the guys in here work hard, some of the guys just kind of fall out of bed and get it done. Whatever works I guess, we won this one," Boohoo told the Egret Herald.

14 June 2298 - The Slog Hands Fort Hagen 4-2 Defeat

The Slog rode a decent outing from starter Dan Dozier to victory over the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud. The final score was 4-2. Dozier went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. His record improves to 3-0. Earning his 15th save of the year was Tiny Greene.

With The Slog leading 2-0 in the top of the second, Dozier hit a fastball from All Day Acosta for a 2-run double. It was his 1st double of the season and put the Ghouls ahead, 4-0.

"We played hard and won," said Dozier. "Sometimes, baseball really is that easy.'

The Slog has now won 6 games in a row.

14 June 2298 - Erb Shines in 8-1 Concord Win

Behind the hitting of Dan Erb, the Concord Radstags stopped the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, 8-1. Erb was 4 for 5 with a triple, a double, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 4 RBI for the Radstags. Phil Cecil, who went 8 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 1 run on 4 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 3-7. The Radstags sit in 5th place in the North Charles Association Institute League with a record of 22-29.

Phil Cecil dealt the Party Boys a blow in the top of the third. Batting with the bases loaded and Concord leading 2-1, Cecil hit a 1-1 cutter for a 2-run single.

Nordhagen Beach manager Craig Robinson said his team was "out of sync."

14 June 2298 - BMU: Rayguns Win at Charles View, 8-2

The Cabot House Rayguns knocked off the Charles View Cannibals, 8-2, at Greenetech Genetics Park. Steve Hon was a big reason Cabot House won. The first baseman went 3-5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. With the win, Cabot House upped its record to 18-18.

Hon had a key at-bat for Cabot House early in the game. With a runner on 1st, he hit a run-scoring double. It was his 10th double of the season and gave Cabot House an early 1-0 lead.

"Things went our way," said Hon.

14 June 2298 - BMU: Beech Excels, But Strongbacks Win

Despite a fine performance by shortstop Nate Beech, the Malden Grognaks lost to the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks, 17-10. Beech was 2 for 3 with a home run, a triple, and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 5. Tyler Storts was the winning pitcher. Over 6 innings, he allowed 4 runs on 4 hits, with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts. With the victory, the Strongbacks upped their record to 19-17.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Jeff Luka? The Outpost Zimonja third baseman had a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Strongbacks on top, 4-0. For the game, Luka had 2 doubles and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"We'll pop the top on a cold beverage and get back to work tomorrow," Luka said.

14 June 2298 - BMU: Demps Now 8-1 After Subduing Robotics Experts

General Atomics Galleria Park was the site of a true pitchers' duel.

Greentop Nursery starter Aaron Demps had a strong outing against the Galleria Robotics Experts at General Atomics Galleria Park. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 2-0 win. Picking up the save was Cush Baker, his 10th.

Demps allowed no runs and allowed only one hit over 8 innings. He also racked up 7 strikeouts and walked one. Cush Baker pitched the 9th inning to pick up his 10th save of the season.

"Aaron was able to execute his pitches," said Greentop Nursery manager Jimmy Combat. "Simple as that."

With the win, Greentop Nursery pushed its record to 25-11.

14 June 2298 - BMU: Aquaboys Walk It Off for 17th Win of Season

The Somerville Place Sentry Bots got a sterling performance from pitcher Danny Bell, but the Eastlake Aquaboys still prevailed, 6-5. Bell threw 5 innings of shutout ball. Eastlake pitcher Bryan Joltstain got the win. He's now 1-0. Mike Hove was tagged with the loss. The loss makes Somerville Place 17-19.

The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with Eastlake trailing 5-4, Marty Fischer hit a fastball from Mike Hove for a 2-run home run, giving the Aquaboys the walk-off win. The Aquaboys scored four runs in the bottom of the ninth.

"There's nothing like the buzz of a walk-off win," Fischer said.

Kurt Kilgore's sizzling hitting streak was snapped at 27 games today. Kilgore failed to get a hit, finishing 0-for-5.

After the game Kilgore spoke with BNN and called his effort "quite a streak."

"I just ran into some good pitching today," he said.

This year Kilgore has 3 home runs and a .369 batting average.

June 2298 - News and Notes - June 15

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

15 June 2298 - Gonzales Sparkles in 7-0 Shutout

Roberto Gonzales of the Salem Witch Hats was one tough customer on the hill today, blanking the Abernathy Adamantium 7-0 on 7 hits.

"When he's on, he's tough to hit," said Abernathy manager Chase Stingwing after the game. "He's just a bulldog out there."

The 19-year-old Witch Hats right-hander registered 6 strikeouts and allowed no walks and 7 hits. He was also 2 for 3 with two RBI while batting. He is batting .333 on the season in 24 at bats.

This year Gonzales has gone 4-7 with an ERA of 4.89 and has 48 strikeouts in 84.2 innings.

Tyler Spronk was 2 for 5 with a home run, a run and three RBI. Chris Treestump added a double and a home run, scoring twice and knocking in one.

15 June 2298 - Malone Throws 4-Hitter En Route to 6-2 Deathclaws Win

University Point picked up a win at Gwinnett Brewery Park, bumping off the Diamond City Swatters, 6-2. Pitcher Quentin Malone was a major reason the Deathclaws emerged victorious. University Point raised its record to 30-22 with the win.

Malone, the winner, is now 7-6 after putting the clamps on the Diamond City offense. In 9 innings of work, he gave up 2 runs on 4 hits, while collecting 6 Ks.

"You win some, you lose some. I don't get too caught up in all that," said Malone.

15 June 2298 - Hancocks Upend T-51s, 9-7, Split Series

Goodneighbor and Oberland duked it out and the Hancocks came out victorious.

Oberland center fielder B.J. Perez had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 9-7, to Goodneighbor at Graygarden Park. Perez went 3-4 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The Hancocks improved to a lofty 37-14.

Goodneighbor used the bat of Jonathan Coats to get the win. The catcher hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Hancocks ahead, 6-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it did its damage.

"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Goodneighbor manager Jeremy Whiteplate.

The Hancocks will play a four-game series this weekend against Warwick to make up their May 15 game, the first CBO game canceled because of radstorm.

15 June 2298 - Ghouls Reel Off Another Win

The exploits of catcher Tony Edgewater helped the The Slog Ghouls defeat the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud, 12-2. Edgewater was 3 for 5 with a double and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 2. The Slog now has a 7-game win streak.

The Slog used the bat of Lernz Tentsleep to capture the win. The shortstop jacked a 3-run home run in the top of the first inning to put the Ghouls ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a dandy.

"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said The Slog manager Mack O'Shea.

While the Ghouls are surging, Fort Hagen is going in the opposite direction, falling to .500 on the season. Star youngster Ben Pawlak exited the game in the 7th inning after looking as though he was in discomfort while running down a fly ball in center field. The Shroud said he should be ready to go for the weekend.

15 June 2298 - Party Boys Win on HBP

Concord right fielder David Stahl had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Stahl went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 times, even as Nordhagen Beach beat the Radstags, 7-6. Nordhagen Beach, at 33-19, is 3½ games up in the North Charles Association Brotherhood League.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Nordhagen Beach shortstop Ryan Bale, facing Bell Franklin with the bases loaded, had a run-scoring hit-by-pitch. It gave the Party Boys the 7-6 win.

The Party Boys tied the game in the bottom of the eighth. Trailing 6-4 entering the inning, Bale hit a solo home run to cut the lead to one. After Tomas Jones singled, he advanced to second and then third on two Cal Silent wild pitches. Jones then scored the tying run when a Brian Masterson grounder to Concord third baseman Chase Bridge was booted.

"This place was electric at the end," Bale said.

15 June 2298 - BMU: Rayguns Rally in 9th for 8-5 Win

The Cabot House Rayguns topped the Charles View Cannibals, 8-5, with shortstop Jake Doucette playing a big role. Doucette was 2 for 5 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Rayguns in the win. The win was credited to Nick Dyson in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Capstone Goofson took the loss. Silton Bean closed the door for Cabot House, picking up his 5th save of the year.

With Cabot House leading 6-5 in the top of the ninth, Doucette hit a 2-run single off Charles View hurler Capstone Goofson. It was the 43rd hit of the season for Doucette and put his team ahead, 8-5.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Cabot House skipper Fourth Wall.

With the win, Cabot House upped its record to 19-18.

15 June 2298 - BMU: Qesadena Slugs Raybathers to 9-5 Win

Mystic Pines first baseman Willie Qesadena may not be a CBO player currently, but he had 5 ribbies while helping his team defeat the Corvega Flamers, 9-5. The winning pitcher was Dave Harden. He tossed 102 pitches over 7.2 innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits. Mystic Pines has now won 3 straight, while the Flamers have lost 3 in a row.

With Mystic Pines leading 3-2 in the bottom of the fifth, Qesadena hit a run-scoring single off Corvega hurler Flimflam Macedo. It was the 6th hit of the season for Qesadena and put his team ahead, 4-2.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Qesadena told the Mystic Pines Daily News.

16 June 2298 - BMU: Cannibals Fall, 7-5, to Mech, Rayguns

Steve Mech made an impact in the 7-5 Cabot House win over Charles View. Mech, who leads the MA in stolen bases with 7, was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 4. Cabot House has run its win streak to 5 in a row, while the Cannibals lost all four games in their featured home series.

Cabot House took a 7-4 lead on Mech's 8th double of the season. The 2-run double, which he hit off Nate Bauer in the top of the seventh, propelled Cabot House to the win.

Mech called the triumph "a good team win."

Charles View now falls into a three-way tie for fourth place in the Downtown Boston League.

16 June 2298 - BMU: Baron Hits 2 home runs in Commandos Win

The 10-3 Haymarket Mall win over Postal Square was due largely to Steve Baron. The Commandos left fielder was 2 for 2 with 2 home runs and 4 walks. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. 16 June 2298 - BMU: Experts Topple People, 17-6, as Lopez Shines

Mop Lopez was instrumental in his team's 17-6 triumph over the Greentop Nursery Night People. The center fielder went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 2 for the Galleria Robotics Experts. Galleria reliever Rocky Riffle was the winner. Aaron Killson chipped in for Galleria with a grand slam home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the catcher had 2 hits in 5 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 2 runs scored, and 5 runs batted in.

"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Lopez.

16 June 2298 - BMU: Raybathers Defeat Flamers, 7-3

The Corvega Flamers got a sterling performance from pitcher Billy Faulkner, but the Mystic Pines Raybathers still prevailed, 7-3. Faulkner threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball. The winning pitcher was Trombone Jones. He's now 3-3. He went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits for the Raybathers. The triumph puts Mystic Pines at 21-17 for the season.

Mystic Pines took a 5-3 lead on Harry Bush's 8th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Bush hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Corvega pitcher Trent Gentilcore shaking his head.

"Our goal is to improve each and every day," Bush told the Mystic Pines Daily News.

16 June 2298 - BMU: Sentry Bots Deal Aquaboys 7-1 Defeat

Somerville Place picked up a win at The Scrapyard, bumping off the Eastlake Aquaboys, 7-1. Pitcher Ronnie Gipper was a major reason the Sentry Bots emerged victorious. "Anything I can do to help the team win," said Armstrong.
