All of the 100 oldest living major league players are now at least 89 years of age with Harding 'Pete' Petersen (Pittsburgh 1955-1959) birthdate: 10/17/28 reaching #100 this past week. (Wikipedia).

Happy 45th, Ichiro
Ichiro Suzuki, who apparently played his last MLB game on May 2 of this year turns 45 today. He has 3,089 hits, 509 stolen bases and a .312 lifetime batting average to his credit and he hit over .300 in his first 10 MLB seasons. He also established a new MLB season hits record in 2004. He's also in the top five on the all-time singles list.. In addition, last year he set pinch hitting records in Pinch Hitting Plate appearances, (109), and pinch hitting at-bats (100), going 27 for 100 (.270) in that role. His Pinch Hits total of 27 was one off John Vander Wal's record of 28 (1995).

Jon Gray: Longest hair in the Majors?
The Rockies big redheaded pitcher is certainly a contender for that title.

Oldest MLB survivors: Check the Phillies list of eldest living players.
Maybe it's because the Phillies went through a number of "Bad Old Days" periods and bad teams go through more players than good teams, the Phillies Today seem to lead all MLB teams WITH THE MOST LIVING ELDEST ALUMNI.
Note: Joe Morgan is not the Hall of fame second baseman, but is Joe Morgan the third baseman (MLB Player: 1959-1961 & 1964) who managed the Boston Red sox to four straight over .500 finishes from 1988 to 1991 and piloted them to two A.L.East titles in 1988 and 1990. |

Most Likely 2019 Phillies Wall O Fame Candidate
Bobby Abreu spent about 2/3 of an outstanding career with the Phillies. His final career numbers include 2,470 Hits, 288 home runs, a .291 batting average and exactly 400 stolen bases
Note: Jimmy Rollins and Ryan Howard have not been retired long enough for Phillies Wall Of Fame consideration. In my opinion, Abreu he had the best Phillies career and best overall career for those who will be eligible in 2019. Last edited by MorganMiller1926; 10-22-2018 at 05:46 PM. |
