Benoit scared a couple of years off me. Yikes!

I'll put up the recap in a few hours, need to catch a nap if I'm gonna be able to function tomorrow.

I didn't have a good feeling heading into this game but I'm sure glad they won! Now we need eight more wins!!! (where's the icon for throwing an octopus onto the field?)

The masterful and dominant performance of Verlander made all the difference. Plus, of course, Cabrera's big home run...

So many people in Detroit have given Verlander hell this year. Not me.

There wasn't anyone on this planet I'd have rather had on the mound tonight. I know I haven't ever really talked my hometown team on this forum, but he was everything you need your ace to be...

The man has HEART. HEART makes aces. See you in BOSTON!

Congrats, Kitties.

Now go kick Boston's ass, and then win it all.

I'd say lets do it again next year but I don't want to see Verlander in the playoffs against us again ever.

Well Justin did something no one is talking about this morning. He kept the A's from hitting anything on the ground to the left side of the infield. I think Peralta had to make one play and that ball was hit right at him. Of course, right at him is the full extent of his range,so....... But, I'm guessing because things went well last night, we wont see Iglesius as anything other than a defensive replacement. Same old crap. Answer me this...Does Miggy's groin injury effect Prince's power?

Yeah, I'm more than happy that they won, but I'm pissed that they have fallen right back into their defense doesn't matter mode again. Never thought I would say this, but if they don't win it all, I want Leyland canned.

Tigers 3, Athletics 0. [Boxscore]

Summary: Verlander, Cabrera power Tigers into the ALCS.

Pitching: Verlander, in a return to his vintage form, was solid gold and nigh near untouchable. The A's managed two hits and a walk off him over 8 innings, and in return, they were punched-out 10 times. [Video of JV's golden performance]

By collecting a win, JV runs his 2013 post-season record to 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 0.53 WHIP, with 21 punch-outs in 15 innings.

Benoit, in a complete contrast to JV, nearly gave all of Tiger-dom massive indigestion, not to mention, a massive coronary.

Here's what happened in the 9th to produce so much anxiety: He started out well, getting Crisp to ground out to Infante and then struck out Donaldson. That's where things got dicey. Lowrie doubled to shallow left center, and then Cespedes got hit by a pitch, putting runners at 1st and 2nd with 2 outs.

The question in my mind was, "Is this gonna be a Gas-Can night, or will Benoit man up and get the out?"

Of course, we all know what happened - Seth Smith flied out to Hunter to ensure the Tigers a play date against Boston. [Video of fly-out]

For his work, he earned a save the hard way, running his post-season record to 0-0, 2 Saves, 5.40 ERA, 1.20 WHIP, with 6 strikeouts in 3.1 innings over 3 games.

Offense: The offense returned to a productive form, getting 8 hits and drawing 5 walks. Unfortunately, the dominant A's staff limited them to just 3 runs as the Cats stranded 9 on-base with 0-6 hitting with RISP.

The list:

Hunter, 1-5 (.158), a single and run scored (3) in the 4th.

Miggy, 1-4 (.250), a 372-foot, 2-run shot to LF in the 4th (1st HR, 3 RBI), and an intentional walk (1st BB of the post-season) in the 5th. His post-season on-base streak stands now at 29 games, all with the Tigers. [Video of shot heard around Tiger and A's fan-doms]

Fielder, 1-3 (.278), a walk (1) in the 2nd and single in the 7th. He was also caught stealing in the 2nd on a blown hit-and-run play involving Peralta.

Martinez, 3-4 (.450), all singles (4th, 6th, 7th innings), and a run scored (5) in the 6th on Infante's fielder's choice.

Peralta, 2-4 (.417), two singles (4th and 6th innings).

Avila, 0-3 (.133), with a walk (4) in the 4th.

Infante, 0-4 (.222), an RBI (3) producing fielder's choice in the 6th.

The donkelly, 0-2 (.400), 2 walks (5th and 6th innings). Apparently starting him was the right choice by Leyland, as the A's couldn't keep him off the base-paths. Guess the old man does know what he's doing most of the time.

Notable: Jackson continued his free-swinging ways, collecting 3 strikeouts to run his total to 13 in the post-season.

Next game: I will have a complete schedule (and up-to-date playoff roster) on the first post of this thread sometime today once I get a little free time.

Notes: For the first time since 1968, the Tigers came back from a 2-1 deficit to win a playoff series. Let's hope they win it all like they did in '68.

Anibal Sanchez will start game 1 against Boston on Saturday.

Playoff roster for the Tigers is in place in the first initial post of the thread, schedule (and probable starters) will follow in a few minutes.

"When I have a few minutes" turned into "right now".

It's all good, big guy; we all react with emotion where Leyland is concerned. The fans either love or hate him it seems, there's no in-between.

Boston ALCS Roster

I've removed the Boston ALCS roster from here and put it in the initial post of this thread as a handy reference.

Sorry about that.

I'm done with the flood of information for today... I hope.

John Lowe of the Detroit Free Press put together a great analysis of the Red Sox you may want to read, if only to understand what the Cats are up against.

The Cats' offense had best come alive full-bore if they expect to survive Boston.

Leyland announced a controversial roster move: LHP Phil Coke will be substituted for Luke Putkonen. Roster updated.

Also, Iglesias will start at SS in game 1, while Peralta will be in LF.

My prediction for this series: Detroit in 7.

What is everyone else's? I want to put them up on the initial post. Winner gets bragging rights.
