The last two weeks in the Queensbury division should be very exciting. All 4 teams are fairly even and all matches between us have been competitive. The Villebillies are coming off a big win last week and they will now look to play spoiler against us. It could all come down to the final week for both the division crown and the Silver conference wildcard.

Bink Gazette - Week 8
BINK GAZETTE July 16, 2008
The Binks traveled to Saint Louis to take on the mighty Sluggers on July 15. On June 1, the Sluggers had visited Baltimore. Down 28-21.5 at the half, the Sluggers had rallied furiously and pulled out a narrow 51.5-48 win. The Binks had since fallen on hard times, and were hoping to avoid another blowout . The Sluggers were in third place, far ahead of the Binks but not too far behind the Diggstown Ringers. The Binks were out of the running, but could play the spoiler role as they met each of their divisional foes over the last three weeks! In the prior two matches, the Binks has dropped the opening 8 fights, digging a hole too deep to fight out of. Indeed, the four lightest weights had gone 0-16 in the last beating given by the Hebron Haymakers . Chocky Chockvivat fell in 9 to Rosendo Alvarez to open the night, but he lasted a round longer than the first meeting, and carried the fight to Alvarez. Jackie Brown whipped Shoji Oguma, and the opening streak hex was broken!![]() When Boots “Don’t call me Horace” Monroe (2-12) awoke from his deep sleep and stopped 11-3 Jorge Lujan on a TKO , the Binks took heart, as the foray to Toronto may have been paying some dividends! When Buzzsaw Yamabe upset 9-4-1 Art Aragon, the Binks began to get hopeful . When Oakland Billy Smith thumped 12-2 Jimmy Adamick in a first round TKO and Melio Bettina knocked out new Slugger light heavy Tarmo Uusivirta, Bink fever became rampant throughout the arena, if not the land!![]() Billy Daniels closed the first half, battling 10-4 Michael Dokes to a standstill, losing a close decision. At halftime, the Binks were 9-7, and led in points, 27.5-21.5! This was quite a turnaround, as the Binkies could only manage 23 in total against the Haymakers. As they headed to the dressing room, their spirits buoyed, Mack Lewis recalled that they had led the Sluggers by even more the first time they met. Had the Toronto trip helped? It seemed so. Had the presence of the chained snaggle-toothed mascot and Miss Mooey from Saint Looey helped? It might have, as they snarled at the judges and almost broke their lines when a split decision verdict went against battling Bummy Davis. The judges, seated very nearby, sent many a wary glance their way. Mack spent the halftime trying to keep the Binks up but not too cocky, and he reminded them of how well the Sluggers had performed in the second half in Baltimore! Chocky stopped Oguma to start the second half, but Jackie Brown went down in 4. Boots Monroe stunned the boxing world when he knocked out 10-5 Gaby Canizales in 4! Danny “Horizontal Kid” O’Sullivan, who had snapped his embarrassing string of being KOd in the opening round by lasting to the 4th against Canizales, stopped Luzan in the 8th, and the Binks were off to a surprising start! ![]() The Binks fought on, and the wins piled up. When Billy Daniels earned his first win by stopping Cesar Brion on cuts, and the Rock Hasim Rahman fought to a majority draw against the highly-regarded Dokes, a fight that many felt the Rock won, the fights concluded and the scores were totaledup. Wonder of wonders, the Binks went 9-4-3 in the second half, making them 18-11-3 for the match, and they beat the Sluggers, 58-38! The nightmares were over. The Binks had won their second match of the year, while the Sluggers’ hopes of getting the wild card playoff entry were severely lowered. For once, there were many candidates vying for Bink Fighter of the Week Honors. Young Corbett II ended his losing streak with two sound wins, raising his record to 7-9. The Cocoa Kid quietly racked up two more wins, and is now a team-leading 12-3-1! Max Resch lost a thriller to Joey Giambra, then stopped Robert Villemain in 10. It took the Rock 11 rounds to stop Cesar Brion, and many felt he had topped Dokes. Yet none of these stalwarts won the prize! The Bink Co-fighters of the Week honors went to Buzzsaw Yamabe, now 9-7, for his upset of Aragon and a thrilling split decision over Ernesto Espana, and to Boots Monroe, now 4-12 after his two stoppages(which stopped his 7 fight losing streak)! For once, it was difficult to select any Bink for Bum of the Week honors. What a refreshing change! Danny O’Sullivan’s win halted his slide, Jose Badillo lost once but also fought a gutsy draw against higher-rated Daniel Zaragoza. The honors go to two Binks, lightweight Bummy Davis and welterweight Tommy West, both of whom went 0-2. Tommy was stopped twice, and has now lost his last 7 fights, but the Binks aren’t ready to push the panic button. Bummy traded shots with Art Aragon, but Aragon got the decisive one in and knocked Bummy out. He also lost that disputed split decision to Espana. He was angry with himself to make the Bum of the Week, and vows a better outing next time. At least he hasn’t been disqualified, yet! Hard-Luck Henry Hank’s saga continues. He decisioned Robert Villemain and earned a majority draw against Joey Giambra, another fight that he felt he won. At 7-7-2, his record isn’t what was expected for him. Maybe he’ll break out, like Boots finally did! So the Binks got their first taste of being spoilers, and Mark’s Sluggers showed their sportsmanship, as they were gracious in defeat. They can make their own destiny in their bout against the Diggstown Ringers, as second place is still a possibility. The same can’t be said for the Binks, who are now 111-136-9, with 357.5 points. The Sluggers will definitely be Bink fans for the next match, as the Binks travel to Diggstown! The Binks were in a festive mood after this long-delayed second win. Amina Sade and her friends were waiting for them in Baltimore, having planned a special party at an after-hours establishment where everyone could loosen up, so to speak. Jubilee the Devil Boy and Miss Mooey from St. Looey sat in their respective cages, each purring as he or she devoured some fine St. Louis steak. Jubilee had nipped an unwary usher, and just missed one of the judges. They might accompany the team to Connecticut, as they certainly were a diversionary force, at a minimum. The Binks will play into the standings in the vaunted Cribb Division, as an upset over either Diggstown or Bears Unstable could seal the deal for the other club. Similarly, if either of our foes blows us out, and we are certainly prone to having that happen, it could result in a change or cementing the standings. Kingmakers or dreambreakers, which will it be? Bink fever, catch it! You’ll only wish you died!

Congratulations Mike, you are certainly playing the perfect role of the spoiler, and oddly enough when you mentioned Henry Hank in the Bink's Gazette it brought back memories, as Henry Hank and Carmen Basilio were the first professional fighters I ever met.
In 1972 here in Toronto they started up a new local television station, and for the first few years they had a program called Fight Night, which was a few amateur fights as well as a couple of pro fights each week, and from time to time they would bring in former greats to provide colour commentary. Final Score:
Baltimore Binks 16-16-0 (KO-9) (T/Ud-6) = 51.5 Diggstown Ringers 16-16-0 (KO-10) (T/Ud-6) = 53======================================== Great match, Thunder ! I hoped for a minute that an upset might be made, but it wasn't meant to be (then again, any win by the Binks should be considered an upset). At least we seem to be competitive again!

! Must have been the training with your Tornados, as we fought Diggstown to a standstill as well !It was interesting that Henry Hank was one of the first boxers you ever met. I've always liked him and he was a sentimental pick. Now if only he'll start winning some more! Maybe at prime? Now its your turn for a big win! |

That was a great match, just goes to show the parity in the league, on any given night.... The Binks have improved a lot as the Season has progressed, getting called out in the Gazette seems to have motivated a few fighters

My site that was hosting the bout logs was down for quite a while due to the host having problems with their provider. This should now be fixed as they have switched providers.
Romy, please also try to log in to the ftp site just to check if you can access it, since there are some parts of my other site which are having weird problems after the provider switch. thanks!

Nice job, Bear!
Even without Savarese beating Dokes and Juuko winning what I would call an upset, you still beat me by 8-10 points. Your guys are getting tougher and mine are apparently heading south for the winter.

On the Haymakers front - has anyone noticed that the pixie dust has started to fall off Joe Symonds' gloves? I better win it all this year because the worm is starting to turn in Hebron.
