No one is forcing anyone to upgrade here. Each league, as always, makes its own choices based on the enhancements of the new version/patch/expansion. OOTPD cant' be held responsible for those choices - and suggesting that providing new enhancements should be delayed based on those decisions is not a good business decision.

I would suggest stating your opinion of the expansion pack to your league, not OOTPD.

Hmm... OOTP: SI is pushed back by 6 months... OOTP6.5 is suddenly released...

I'm not saying it's not worth $10, which it may be, but let's call it for what it is- SI is afraid of losing some interest in OOTP (I know the diehards will stick with it, but you will lose the fringe fans (who I assume are more plentiful than the true hardcores)) and so they got Markus to come out with a "new" OOTP in order to bridge the gap from May 2004 to March 2006. I think that's kinda obvious.

Otherwise, with 2 years gone by without any movement, SI might have a stale franchise that it would need to re jumpstart.

Nice marketing on SI's part. Kudos for them also getting off their high horse and just releasing OOTP7 in the Spring, like any sane company would do.

Take it Easy Guys

Hey,
We shouldn't have to argue about the expansion pack. After all....if you don't want to buy it...DON'T and if you do then DO! No one is forced to do anything! I think personally that there is a lot of positives attributed to the new expansion pack. The positives outweigh the negatives (at least they do to me.) Lets all enjoy this product no matter which version you run.

How does an "outsider" get an advance copy to make a certainly biased preview?

The OOTP6 logo on the front page of the Download Center? If that's the one you're talking about our one and only Cuss did that one. I didn't like the OOTP6 logo so I had asked him to see what he could come up with.

He's a beta tester. Although, he must be getting some leeway with his NDA.

I have to assume by your comment you don't agree with my "biased" viewpoint. For the record, I'm a Beta tester - have been for 3 years now. However, the fact that I am has nothing to do with my opinions on the game. Is it that hard to imagine that someone might feel like I do without attributing it to "getting something" for it?

The only part of this whole thing that doesn't sit well with me is that expansion packs usually have fancy names (Play the World, Rise of Rome, etc.). This one seems to simply be named ".5" which is kinda uninspired, imho.

Just saying that a good "review" is from someone who is not affiliated with the software company or development / testing process in any way. I'd just prefer you label your forthcoming comments as accurately as possible.

What happens with the new bugs invariably introduced in 6.5? Now Markus has to decide between working on v7 and fixing v6.5? Which do you think gets priority?

Incidentally, I don't have a problem with the $10.

Just for the record, my "preview" will be my personal opinons on the same facts published in the announcement on the OOTPD website. "Testing" and any details concerning such will have to wait until the release date. The "advantage" I will have is being able to posts my opinions of those tests the day it's released.

Exactly... was going to say the exact same thing myself. With these changes to 6 being made, I can see my league probably pushing 7 off for a year or two once it is released - we already love 6 far beyond 5, and with these tweaks we'll pretty much be in the "butter zone" for awhile.

Besides... we are talking $10 here.... $10. Sheesh...

Then I would suggest waiting for a review from GameSpy, or any of the many other resources. I have always felt I was fair in any opinion of the game - always basing my comments on what "I" wanted to see, which is the same thing everyone does in their own way.

If there is a bug in 6.5 that is in need of a fix, I would expect Markus to at least address it. If, on the other hand, I saw it as minor, I would be ok with letting it go in favor of staying on time with OOTPBM.

I'm going to tear into this when it is released. I just wish I hadn't spent all kinds of time creating a new league last week. Oh well.

Makes me wonder if Skydog's settings will conflict with the game.

I'm disappointed that version 7 is being pushed back to March, although it is a MUCH more reasonable time to realease a baseball game. Having said that I am absolutely looking forward to this upgrade and hope it will keep me content until March when I can play games pitch by pitch.

Trust me I'll be forcing everyone in my league to get.
