[quote]Mario Ramos got a career ending injury but was able to trade him to the Braves for a prospect.
irl, you cannot trade a player who is on the dl..or in this case, a player in red.

Why would you try this? You are a shrewd business man.. what did you do tell them the doctor said he would be ok next season? Todd |

Also, since weather influences the game, could we be told what the weather is before the game starts?

I think the game already does this. I could be wrong because I haven't played yet tonight, but I'm sure it says, "it's cloudy and 70 degrees, but there is no chance of rain" at the beginning of the game. (or something similar) Anyone? Todd |

I'm getting repetitive (sorry), but I'd still like to see if the pbp box can be moved as discussed at:

Either that or I was scoring all of my Hardball games wrong in the mid-80's, which is likely. =) Jason

Here's a link to the relavent rules if you're interested: http://www.baseball-almanac.com/rule10.shtml (see section 10.18) The basic concept is that the inning is reconstructed without the errors and any runs that would have scored without the errors are considered earned; any scored due to the errors are unearned. So, errors that only allow runners to advance an extra base do not result in runs being unearned if subsequent hitters hit safely. (Also, I just noted that passed balls are treated as errors for scoring unearned runs. I wasn't sure about that before; I don't think OOTP handles this correctly either.) |

Here's another scoring problem I found:
[Batting: Cleveland, bottom of 3rd. Pitching: Bert Blyleven 3B Taylor Duncan: SINGLES to shallow left-center. 2B Tucker Ashford: Reaches on a fielding error by the second baseman. Duncan to second. DH Steve Braun: Grounds into fielders choice to the second baseman, Ashford out at 2nd base. Duncan to third. CF Cesar Geronimo: Strikes out looking. LF Bruce Bochte: Wild pitch. Duncan scores. Braun to second. Grounds out to the pitcher. Inning over... one run, one hit, one error.] This was scored as an earned run. Here's a reconstruction without the error: [Batting: Cleveland, bottom of 3rd. Pitching: Bert Blyleven 3B Taylor Duncan: SINGLES to shallow left-center. 2B Tucker Ashford: Grounds out 4-3. Duncan to second. DH Steve Braun: Grounds out 4-3. Duncan to third. CF Cesar Geronimo: Strikes out looking. Inning over... .] So the run should have been unearned. |

This is not a big deal, but its a spelling mistake that's all.
When you activate a salary cap for a league and you offer a free agent a contract that would put you over the cap, the information box comes up saying "This would put your payroll above the salaray cap!" "salaray" should be spelled "salary". |

A couple more things...
I'd like to see the game handle doubleheaders better, particularly in the way results are displayed in the team schedule screen and in the effect on the pitching rotation. Also, I miss the team logos in the team schedule screen from OOTP3. |

[QB]How about making a one year contract more popular among playesr. Old guys want long term but teams want 1 year deals. And young guys want one year deals and usually gets them. Pujolos signed a 600k 1 year deal. In out of the park (i know hes basically made up) I signed him for a 6 mil 6 year deal. I couldn't get him for a 1 year deal unless paying him 15mil. I love the one year contract for younger guys because you don't know their futures are secure. In one of my many franchises (not my main one) Freddy Garcia, I signed him long term because once again the short term deal doesn't come through. 8 mil 8 years is what he wanted and I gave it to him. Next year hes on the DL 3 times his ratings are sunk. Nothing wrong with his ratings shrinking but now hes stuck on my roster forever.

Good point "J-Way", but your failing to realize the signing of 1 year, 600k (which is one of the most lucarative contracts ever signed by a second year players) wasn't mandatory. The Cardinals had the option of simply renewing his last year's contract. They just would rather work out a deal for the season. Pujols is Cardinals property for another 5 years (including this one), so they don't even have to negotiate new contracts for the first three or so, depending on how good they are. Then arbitration comes into play. And sometimes teams will sign 4 year contracts with players to keep them out of arbitration. The four year system is good, because the 6 year thing is arbitration and all that good stuff. I mean arbitration and stuff would be a nice feature and all, but that's an entirely different story. Some players think they can get more money going year-to-year in Arbitration. As soon as they enter the market they don't sign the 2 year deals if they are good. A-Rod signing for 10 years, Manny signing for 8, things like that. I mean basically, the one year deal thing in MLB is the same as OOTP, their contract is renewed for 100k each year, that's all.. |

Also maybe a little more "rent-a-player" trades, where a contending team that is a certain position away will deal a pretty good prospect for that player.
I.E., The Colorado Rockies dealing Jermaine Dye for Jose Ortiz, Mario Encarnancion. Encarnancion is still a decent prospect (well, until he was found to be really 26 at least), and Ortiz is a top prospect in the game. The CPU would NEVER have considered going that, despite Oakland needing a cleanup hitter. Also when we offer the CPU Trades they say "We Don't want so-and-so". But they offer us a good deal, where they include two prospects who aren't that good, but where maybe some teams could use them for minor league depth or would be willing to take a chance on them, but whereas I have no room for them with a deep system. I don't want to just cut them so any ole team has them for free, but can't really get anything worthwhile for them. Maybe we could tell them "I don't want this player". Something like that. I don't know, just something that was brought to my attention by an owner in a league of mine. One more thing I noticed. I have it set on "Let me know if a pitcher has a no-hitter through 8 innings" or "Let me know if a player has a chance for 500th HR" or "3000th Hit". Like in real life, ESPN will cut into a game if a player has the chance for that, but if they hit it or not they will cut back to regular programming until he has another shot. I would like to be able to do that, just cut away until the player has another shot.. |

Great game...I'm really hooked on it...
Here are a few ideas for a possible patch/update: POSSIBLE ADDITION: When it says...Traded to Tigers 3/25/04...it would be really great if you could say the whole trade...all the players included in the deal, that way we can go back and critique moves over past seasons at anytime we want... POSSIBLE ADDITION: Along with the previous thought, but perhaps a bit more complex, it would be great if wherever a player's name is, if you click on it, a window will pop up with a profile of that player. I really like to go back and evaluate the trades every month, and this feature would make the process 10 times faster and more enjoyable. 2. The Email system is useful but not nearly as much as it could be...I am still unclear if the emails from the players demanding more playing time or wanting a different role (Starting pitchers don't like being in the bullpen so far) really have any effect on the team or their performance...other than that, the info in the emails are just trade offers or injury/promotion news...it doesn't even tell us when a players ratings or talent increases... POSSIBLE ADDITIONS: The aforementioned notice of when players talent ratings increase/decrease... POSSIBLE ADDITIONS: I already read this somewhere on the board, but I'll repeat it...It would be great if we got news sent to us from around the league...if a team puts a player on the trading block, I think that team should send an email to all the teams announcing their plans...on top of that, when a player is unhappy or refuses to talk contract extension, it would be awesome to get a message telling us...Perhaps we could have a list options which we could toggle on/off for when we want to be interrupted and with what messages...that way we can still sim thru seasons quickly if we want to... POSSIBLE ADDITION: I love Free Agency...I think this years version is a huge step forward...The only thing I'd really think was cool would maybe be a email that reported the teams that the players were "rumored" to be the most interested in...again, this information is available elsewhere, but by using the email system you could give it a bit more personality and again, pull us into the gaming world a bit more... POSSIBLE ADDITIONS: This may be more for version 5 than in an update, but I'll say it anyways...I think it would be great if we could give General Managers and Managers ratings/personalities that would influence their behaviors on the field and in the building of their teams...that way teams do take on personalities... Managers/GM's could be given certain preferences...some may believe in Defense First...others feel that a slugging offense is your best bet...some like veteran players (Sparky Anderson)...while some respond well to younger guys...
