You can fix the height problem by using OOTPOriginMaker in Excel, but using 1-2-3 to actually edit the .csv file (i.e., you copy from an Excel over to a 1-2-3 spreadsheet and paste as text). Works fine.

2) Don't think so. 3) Try this: *Back-up your league. (Just in case) *Unzip the file into the league folder you want to use it on, let's say you create a league called "test" you want to use the originator on, you unzip the originator into the test.lg folder inside your OOTP folder. *Open up your game, go to league set up > Misc Set up and click "export player general info to CSV." *Quit the game - close it entirely. *Using my computer or windows explorer or whatever you choose, go back to your "test.lg" folder inside the OOTP folder, and open it up. You should see your player_general CSV file in there. Just make sure it's there, no need to open it. *Click the OOTP6 exe to open it up. *Set your percentages to how you want them for each country. Save them if you like. *Make sure your computer's speakers are on. *Click "Originate" - you should here just that normal beep, just one click. *Close out the generator and the league file stuff, and open up OOTP6 (the game). Open your "test" league and go back to League set up > Misc. Set up. *Click "Import player general info from CSV." That should be it. Last edited by RayofHope; 07-21-2004 at 01:36 AM. |

I forgot to capitalize OOTP.. I will try to write up step by step instructions tonight if I can get the time.. and it will modify any player that has any of the original origins

RE: Height problem
If you open the players_general.csv file in Excel, you need to format the height column before you save it and import it. The steps are: 1. Right-click on the column header (the "M") to select it. 2. Choose "Format Cells". 3. Click on Custom. 4. Enter "m-d" in the type field. If you've already imported and then exported again, this won't work. Otherwise, you should be fine. On another note, this is a GREAT utility, Dave. I love the control it gives over country of origin. However, I'd like to add my voice to the pleas for an option to update just the origin and not the name. Most of the time, I'll want to change both but not always and while it's easy enough to copy the names somewhere else and then paste them back in before importing, having an option in the program would be nice. |

After you use the program once, those changes will stay and only any new players with the default origins created by the game will be changed the next time you run the Originator. __ Dave, thanks again for you work on this. The improvement made already are beyond what my original vision for an origin generator would have been. I would like to echo the requests for an option to edit "Names Only" or "Origins Only." |

This might sound like a stupid question, but if I was to replace the info in the dats file with that of other countries (I don't know, changing Cuba so all the names were Swedish and all the origins were Stockholm, SW), would changing Cuba to a 2% then make 2% Swedish players, would that work?

I ask because I do not want to lose the players I have know for "history sake". I dont mind playing this season out and then using the originator program after the initial season but I just dont want to lose the players I have now. Second question, if I do choose to use this program (which is sweet by the way ) do i have to use it after EVERY season of play. If so, when the best time to use it (ie; before the draft, ect). Thanks again guys. I appreciate all of the help. |

yes.. you need to edit DEFDATA .. you can do that and add files instead of replacing them.. Im working on an instruction document.. but it isn't going to be ready tonight..

If you run the program right now, it will overwrite the current players' names in your league, true. If you wait until after the season, it will STILL overwrite the current players' names (assuming the origins are still the OOTP-created ones). In other words, no matter when you run it, any player who gets a new origin will get a new name too. EDIT: Note for davwms: This is why the program needs an "Origins Only" option... so existing leagues don't get all scrambled up.

I think what he's saying is he has a league he's played out a few seasons on with regular OOTP names and origins, and what he wants to know is basically if he runs the utility before the next ammy draft, will it change the names and origins of all the players in the league, not just the rookies. In a nutshell - the originator ONLY overwrites player names and origins of players it hasn't already overwritten. Once it's overwritten a name and origin of a player, it won't overwrite it again. The answer is it'll change the name and origin of any player it hasn't already changed. So, let's say you have "Peter Parkerman" from "USA" who, over the course of your 4 league seasons has hit a craeer .286 with 37 homers, 30 SB and 167 RBI. "Peter Parkerman" and "USA" were created by OOTP. The VERY first time you run DAVWMs origin maker whether it is before an ammy draft or at the inception of the league (in which case there would be no career stats), "Peter Parkerman's" name will be changed, let's say to "Ron Burgundyman" and his origin will be changed, I don't know whether or not your garuanteed he'll still be American though. "Ron Burgundyman" will be the same basic player as the old "Peter Parkerman", same ratings etc and same .286 career average with 37 homers, 30 SB and 167 career RBI. I don't know if this would work (I doubt it, but give it a shot), but you can always try it, AFTER backing up the most recent save spot your league of course: *Export the players general info to CSV BEFORE "progressing to next season" - hence before the next ammy draft class is generated. *Open up the player_general CSV in excel, order the player numbers in descending (or ascending) order (this can be done with a click of a button if you are in the top cell in the column you want to sort - just hit either one of the "A-Z" buttons in the tool bar). I'm pretty sure sorting the data in this manner takes all the other info associated with the player with it, if you know what I mean. *COPY (not cut) and paste the last names and first names of the players currently in the league into a new CSV file. Save this NEW file as a CSV file. *Run originator on the original file. *Import the players back to your game. Check the players for bugs etc. *Export the players general info back to CSV if it looks okay.. *Open the CSV, and order the player ID numbers the same way you did it (ascending or descending) before you ran the originator. *CUT and paste the first name and last name columns back from the CSV file you saved them in into the player_general_csv you just exported - hence (I think) returning the original names back to the players, but keeping the new origins that the originator created. *Save and import the CSV back into your league. I think the chances of this working are slim to none, but you might as well try it. ONLY even CONSIDER trying it if you back up your league from the most recent save point before trying it - and personally, I don't use the "Back-Up League" option OOTP provides, I copy the entire league file directly into a zip file using My Computer. RayofHope,
You got it. That will work just fine. Deitrus, Just remember to format the height column before you save the csv in Excel. |

You can download the ORIGIN GENERATOR at http://www.ootpdownloadcenter.com/Utilities.html
This one will not change names.. it only adds cities to the country origins that are already there.. if you download the ORIGINATOR from http://www.pt-sports.com/OOTP this one adjusts names and origins based on the settings you chose.. I keep seeing someone saying that this program needs an origins only option, and someone replies with telling them to download DAVWMS ORIGIN GENERATOR from the download center.. then someone else says that the program needs an origins only setting.. There are 2 programs: DAVWMS ORIGIN GENERATOR only adds city names to the OOTP generated origins. OOTP6 ORIGINATOR will modify names and origins of players that currently have origin that are OOTP generated. Once you run either of these programs, those players will not get changed again by either of these programs...
