Put in another vote for this system. I would really love to be able to look at the game in more of an owner's role. I need a strong GM, strong manager (which is also missing), and a great supporting staff. I want to sit in the owner's box and just pull the strings.

Thank you all for keeping this going while I've been "out." It's very much appreciated.

I'd like this ability too.

Of course I support this.

Championship/Football Manager has much of this.

Managers get sacked, and you as a Manager can throw your hat in the ring for the job.

Managers have different tendencies, styles and judgement on talent.

Early on your rep might not be good enough to get a big coaching job, but after some success you could get it.

Managers retire and get replaced in the "pool" by former players.

Lack of different tendencies among AI managers and GMs, and the movement of those managers and GMs among teams, is a weakness in OOTP.

Championship/Football Manager also has a very good news feature for tracking things like this, and letting you see various managers being on the ropes with their current side.

I don't know how many players of CM/FM there are on these boards... but the game long has had a lot of features that would make for massive leaps forward in baseball management games. It's worth game designers time to play the game and try to figure out similar features that would work in a baseball game.

I have been using ootp since 3.2 and read the boards all the time but never wanted to get caught up with the wish lists and posting, because I always assume it has been said before. However, I will break my silence to say that this idea is what the game has been missing all these years. I have always felt that their should be a GM role in OOTP, but I never could simplify the role the way that Dan did. I think that out of all the "I wish that Marcus would do this or that" Dan identifies the problem and provides a realistic way to make it work. I hope this helps.

I agree and also it would be nice if we saw more former players show up as coaches, managers, scouts and managers after they retire.

Dan, great idea. This would definately add personality to solo leagues. I like to play out all my teams games and enjoy the duties of team manager more than the duties of GM. In fact, I always let the computer controll baserunning, if you think about it, a coach not the manager decides to wave the runner in or hold him. I would love to have the challange of attempting to become a successful manager with a computer controlled GM. This would make the game so much more like real life---for example, your managing the Detroit Tigers and your team sucks but you really like this kid Catalanato (spelling?). You think Justin Thompson has a great future and just know the Cordero kid you have in the minors is going to be the next big closer in the game. The next thing you know they are all gone and you have Juan Gonzalez. Remember when the Yankees forced Ruben Sierra on Joe Torre?

Again Dan great Idea.

GM and TEAM MANAGER

The GM idea is great! I would love to see it extended to where computor controlled (or even human controlled) can hire a Team Manager. Retired team members might have an edge in getting the job. We might even see George S. - Billy M hire & fire repetition. (Just like some of the repetitive roster moves I've come to love in OOTP6.) It certainly would add some kind of depth to what happens in a league.

bump...

I haven't looked too much into the newest version, but will we be able to do this now? Or how about just be a manager on a team where you don't control what your team gets in the off season through the draft and free agency?

Does anyone know if the development team has seriously considered this idea? I'd love to know if it ever evolved beyond more than some discussion and many, many endorsements.

For the record, I would LOVE to see this GM feature with all the glory specified in the previous postings.
