This 1st week of a 12 team "playoff" was a real dud.

ESPN HR Dept is going to have a stressful holiday season. 1st it was Ryan Clark vs Aaron Rodgers.
Now it is Kirk Herbstreit & Chris Fowler vs Stephen A Smith, Shannon Sharpe & First Take.

Meanwhile, Matt Mitchell's "SEC Roll Call" wants to remind us that Tennessee talked a significantly larger amount of talk than the amount of walking they were able to walk.
(Okay, I'm just trying to squeeze in a plug for the series. Matt has been killing it all season long.) |

The SEC Shorts guy has been hit or miss this year. He hams it up too much. But the Vandy pimp was hilarious

It's a little rediculous that Colorado is getting praised for taking insurance on their players. Like they are not getting anything in return, namely, that the players are not sitting out the bowl game. |

I am not sure how much it is done at the university level. I think the headline may be the amount taken out for university level players. But I was confused by that headline as well. This has been done for decades. Messi was insured by PSG for a rumoured €750 million. I cannot even imagine what the monthly premium would be on that policy. |

insurance for the players shouldn't be surprising. You also see it in Hollywood. Insurace has cost multiple actors/actresses roles before

It's also in music. The reason that One Direction went from being a 5-man to a 4-man act was that Zayn Malik was too deep into cocaine to pass the insurance exam so they could travel abroad.
(Then they broke up when Harry Styles went into acting, and now they can only be a 4-man if they reunite because Liam Payne took that leap off the hotel balcony in Rio, but Zayn was the weakest link, originally. [As is normal, they were all doing it, but Zayn was the one who couldn't get clean].) Insuring performers is standard practice. (Robert Downey, Jr.'s comeback almost didn't happen because after being in prison he couldn't get a completion bond to do Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, until Val Kilmer bought the bond for him, because he wanted RDJ in the role and was willing to take the risk that Downey might fall off the wagon and default.) DDP mentioned that one of his retirements from wrestling was because of insurance companies refusing to cover him. Supposedly Anthony Kim's long competitive golf hiatus was due to an insurance payout Last edited by snarls200; 12-25-2024 at 05:16 PM. |

Well, that's why, Rico! I'm not a big fan of "analysts" who prioritize the dramatic over the pragmatic. Congrats to Navy, and especially Blake Horvath for that school-record 95-yard QB-draw for the tying TD. Anchors aweigh! |

I never fault a trailing coach for attempting to win the game if he can on one play.

I fault a man who risks losing the game on an unnecessary all-or-nothing shot, instead of tying it up and letting the whole team determine their fate. But JMO.

There are no guarantees in OT. All sorts of scenarios can happen. I would got for 2 every single time in that situation. Especially since OU had spent just about the whole game punting. no telling if they would get their O in gear for OT.

We can agree to disagree on this one. You can bet on the 1000's of scenarios that could take place or the limited amount on that one play. I wouldn't have faulted him for playing for OT. But I certainly don't fault them for going for the win right there & then.

Moving on…
…hey, Chris Cotter's still around! He may not have followed the "Mets' stadium reporter to PbP stud" career track as swiftly as his successor, Kevin Burkhart, but he's calling the Fenway Bowl between U Conn and North Carolina. Or, as Cotter puts it, "two blueblood basketball schools playing a football game in a baseball stadium." Heh. (And the weather is just fine for hockey, too.) Sorry, Cobra, I'm dipping out of this one with UConn up 27-7. Wishing UNC the sort of comeback USC had last night, but as far as Boston footballl goes, Chargers-Pats is looking like the better choice right now. |

Best Tar Heel player already declared, so he was out. Then the QB got hurt on the 3rd play. They had to bring in the 4th stringer. Cause the original starter got hurt opening night & the 2nd stringer got replaced midseason & entered the portal. Most of the o-line had gone into the portal. The staff is full of lame ducks. And mind you, this is a roster who couldn't find the spirit to beat their rival in their HC's final game after having lost to them the last 3 outings. There were a ton of players I hadn't seen all season playing in that game. Huskies should have been embarrassed w/their performance. This was mostly an infomercial to the rest of college football's potential transfers that there is playing time to be won w/the new regime in Chapel Hill.
