You've no idea how I smile when I see that, zappa! Only thing I enjoy about boxes more than making them is knowing folks use them.

I use them too. Wish we still had a 'thank you" button. Many people will make a click but won't comment.

One thing I noticed about Skyboxes in OOTP is that the game seems to "tilt" the skybox. Are my eyes deceiving me? The problem this causes is that the buildings/trees or other structures on the ground always show up in certain angles. This may be perfectly ok for some models, but just doesn't look right in other instances.
This led me to think if it's possible to make skyboxes that only have sky, or more than 80% of it is sky, to make sure that ground clutter is so far below the 3D stadium model that it is never visible. Ty you are the expert here. Am I making sense? This may be worth a test. |

I'll look into this. Some of the boxes I haven't posted I've dismissed because of "looking not right". It also might be that (especially on the older boxes) my horizon line may have been off a hair. With the current camera, that shouldn't be an issue. Give me a couple days.

Dodger Stadium and Cloudy skybox that come with the game. The horizon is indeed tilted. We can see that from the side. ![]() So, the view "behind" the stadium or looking toward home plate can definitely show unwanted stuff. If I zoom in the camera to be inside the stadium, some of that goes away of course, but won't be completely covered by the grandstands (especially other stadiums that are not as tall as Dodger Stadium). ![]() Meanwhile, it looks perfect beyond the outfield: ![]() We won't be able to "fix" this unless the Devs change it. I assume the only thing we can do is to move the horizon line to be significantly lower. Last edited by Flying_Canuck; 06-07-2024 at 02:13 PM. |

Looking at
the box I just posted from Stonehenge, yes there's a very small but noticeable tilt. That's a google earth capture. The tilt is due to the road sloping downhill, I think.
You're using one of the defaults in that pic, aren't you? That one would be an issue for Jorin...well above my pay grade. I make them, I can't program them! ![]() I frequently encounter issues with ballpark backgrounds. Most of the time, I open up the background image files and edit them so they're empty vessels. I also frequently have to blow the camera angles out so that I can see the whole playing surface. I'm going to dive in and look at some of my self-taken ones. I work at keeping things level, but I may need to work harder. I may need to confine myself to flatter areas. I'll also try some of the non-google third party boxes to see if they suffer from this. There is definitely something going on. That's a very, very good catch!

First check
The Lake Michigan shoreline box appears to be almost entirely level...and that's one of mine. I'm actually surprised by this because I took it on a windy day in deep dune sand!
The butte pic is a google earth snag. The ground plane is clearly tilted in comparison to the park's. That's probably due to the camera being at an angle when the pic was taken. Looking in the construction kit, several of the images are tilted to the point that I can see it without a ballpark present. Again, not always a ton, but noticeable. That could be either due to the image they selected being taken at an angle or a glitch. Only Jorin could figure that one out.

Hmm, yes, you are probably right. There are so many variables, but your Lake Michigan example looks flat enough to me. So it must be how the images were originally captured, and not my initial assumption the game is hard coded to tilt the skybox.
