Here is the complete game. I can even annotate it for you.
I'd have to hunt in my archive for the other; though. There's no working link in that image. |

Heck, no! I won that one, too.
If I want to talk about blown chances…well, I have the Mets thread for that. Last edited by Amazin69; 10-10-2025 at 09:01 PM. |

It's always amusing when you've made a completely boneheaded blunder…only to discover that you were actually laying a clever trap for your opponent, and he walked right into it.
1. e4 e6 2. Ne2 d5 3. e5 c5 4. f4 d4 5. d3 Ne7 6. g3 Nf5 7. Bg2 Be7 8. O-O O-O 9. Na3 Bd7? Just stupid; I want to play …Qc7 without letting him counter with Nb5, but this just drops the b-pawn 10. B:b7 Bc6 Here, I'm just trying to limit the damage. 11. B:a8?? B:a8 But he got greedy; he should have just traded bishops and been glad to be a pawn ahead. Suddenly, I have complete control of the long diagonal, and he's pretty much doomed 12. g4? Qd5! He tried to distract me…but why should I be distracted? He has to deal with the checkmate threat, and if Rf2, Qh1 mate 13. Kf2 Qg2+?! I think this is a slight error; 13…Bh4+ 14. Ng3 Qg2+ finishes him a bit quicker, IMO. But there's no defense, anyhow. 14. Ke1 Bh4+ resigns Since 15. Ng3 N:g3 crashes through all the same. Last edited by Amazin69; 10-10-2025 at 11:01 PM. |

Since my last post, my now 15-year old grandson spend a week at the local St. Louis summer chess camp.
Pretty sure he had no idea of what he was getting into. He hasn't played a single game since the camp. He is VERY smart, but he was smashed, early and often. If you know, you know...St. Louis is at the heart of the USA chess scene. Good news is that he will likely return to chess many times over his lifetime..and he will always be competitive against casual to good players. |

I mean, there was a World Open in Philadelphia where I dropped my first four games, but that meant that I was playing my fellow "fish" by Saturday morning and I got a few wins to salve my ego… |
