So you think it should be THE priority? Are there not NHL games with vastly superior graphics if that is what matters to you? How did you end up here? Is that why anyone plays FHM?

And you can't compare it OOTP. It's very easy for any low cost simulator to visual baseball well because baseball as a sport is 95% thinking, 5% action.

1) Well, it's not vastly superior graphics that matter, it's vastly superior strategy with decent (or passable) graphics.

2) See one.

3) Yes.

We're all different after all, and thankfully we can all play the game the way we enjoy it.

It would be so great to be able to edit and save rosters (apart from doing it in game and saving as a quick start). Maybe even have a community share system for rosters

That would be amazing! Just imagine being able to select from an entire collection of modded rosters. *Aah*

Something just popped up in my mind and I come here to write it down right away. In OOTP, there is something called "real time simulation" (with various speed options). I hope to have similar feature in FHM in the future. It's actually fun to let it run and gradually get the results. Obviously this is not a must have, instead giving an option to the players how they want to sim.

Game Statistics:
Some window, where can i find Biggest win of my team, Biggest defeat (with detail), longest winning streak, loosing streak, biggest goals (shots) diff and so on.

Better not only one. But lest say Top 10 or at least Top 5.

Also for a league.

Thumbs down

Please fix / redesign pre-game and post-game screens.

Honestly, it's a visual mess, not user friendly and has been left in a poor state for way too many iterations of the game now.

Information is scattered everywhere:

Pre-game stats bottom left of screen, in-form players top right.
Post game power play and shots per period stats right at bottom of long scrolling screen.

Key/main information not presented clearly enough:

Actual result of game buried away in top left - it needs to be one of the main focal points that catches your eye.
Reading scorers is mess as they are separated by penalties for each period - there should be two distinctive columns, perhaps alongside each other to reduce amount of scrolling.
Accessing team stats from game - again wayyy too much scrolling to get to the information we need. Perhaps tabs at top to flip to them easily or something.

Information not showing at all:

Starting goalie stats were replaced by a pointless playing cards which serves no purpose. The cards which they were sacrificed for don't even look aesthetically pleasing.

Out of town scores don't show.

2D simulation:
I've tried to like this, believe me I really have, but I just cannot take to it. The icon sizes, poor detailing of name/number the movement, even the corners of the rink are rounded completely wrong. It just doesn't look like a hockey simulation.

Good points. And adding to this, on post game screen and on yesterdays result panel on the manager page, when in the playoffs, have the won games in brackets next to the score. There is no way to see how other playoff ties are going other than to go to playoff tree.

First the good news, I agree with most everything you said about design and layout. Matter of fact, there's only two points where I beg to differ. (See below).

I like the cards, though I agree they could (and should) be improved to be more aesthetically pleasing. For me, the answer isn't getting rid of them, (as I think they add an important visual element, so the screens aren't just pure text, which is quite frankly, more than a little drab to look at all by itself).

First I should say, I use mods for 2D, so I'm not looking at the characterless boxes. Once again for me, watching the 'little players' move adds an important visual element to the simulation. (Though I'd like to see this improved as well, so that not every player shoots left for example).

To be perfectly honest, without 2D, I wouldn't have bought the game and I wouldn't be here. So if the goal is to sell more games and grow the community, I think there's room for both of us. And like you said, you tried 2D but didn't take to it, which is fine. The beauty being you don't have to use it.

P.S. If I had to watch the box icons go back and forth, I'd go bonkers. Thank the stars for player mods!

Can I add - during the playoffs for the schedule boxes to include the series score. I often just sim games not involving my team from the schedule box, but have no idea who is leading the series without opening the playoff standings screen.

@jilech I definitely agree with you about the play-off results.

@jumpSeat I'm glad the 2d was appealing enough to get you into FHM. My post is critical but it's only because this is potentially such a great game and certain aspects really hold it back.

I could live with the cards not looking great if they didn't replace the starting goal stats. That was always a key piece of info for me before the game.

I'm not against 2D - I play a lot of Football Manager and EHM previously, so am familiar with how it could/should work. I also appreciate it's a relatively new feature in FHM and it'll be an ongoing work in progress.

However, the fact you need to mod it for it to be suitable says a lot about it's current state. In it's bare state the 2D just looks wrong to me visually.

Yeah, I think there's room to include both elements on the page layout. I'm not sure why we had to lose the goalie stats, as they're obviously important to a lot of people.

Agreed, I think you're right on the money here. I grew to love 2D in EHM. It was such a good engine, so well designed and well developed. And again, in it's current vanilla state, the 2D in FHM just doesn't make the grade. For me its passable with mods, but I'm waiting anxiously for more improvements.

When you ask for a player's demands, also include minor league salary (in two way contracts)

Before thinking about the different features, the game really really needs to progress in user experience or just with a more friendly design.

We are years away from a Football Manager experience. I think this austerity of design is losing a large part of the audience. Maybe open it to a personal skins options. I see the mods but it's just a really few part of the game.

Having a huge amount of content is very good, but showcasing it is better. Otherwise, we're missing around some great stuff.

The game is currently far too complicated to handle for a beginner. We have the same problems than FM in the soon 2000's, a game who's like an Excel files with images just for hardcore fans. And I see the same debate with the 2D/3D animate (nobody can now say that is not essential in Football Manager to follow our players, our just for the immersion)
(ho yes, and a French version would be perfect )

The drafts after 4-5 years are so thin after first round (this is also an issue for historical mode). I hope they fix that for FHM 9 because it kills my motivation to play it after a couple of seasons. There are also way too many overaged players in the draft in later drafts. I would love to see an overhaul of the drafts and the screen. Take some inspiration from EHM and NHL. More information from the scouts on the screen, maybe a timer like in NHL to give that kind of immersion and also make the AI able to make trades during the draft. It's so boring when you as the human GM is the only one making trades to move up or down in the draft.

Outside of that, I would love to see some big improvements in the 2D engine. I still think (and I have voice my opinions about that earlier) that there are big differences between the 2D and the classic engine in terms of points total and how a single player can have completely different careers based on what engine you use to sim games.

Maybe more visual stuff on some of the tactics. Let us see where the players will be on the powerplay. Let us see who will screen the goalie.

A conversation system so you could have conversations with your players and media. Maybe even with your coach if you only have the GM role on the team

Basically what I am asking for is more immersion. Let us really have that experience of being a GM and head coach of a team.
That's what I have been thinking of in terms of FHM 9. I love FHM and have played every single game since the first one.

Yeah, without going full-blown RPG, I think this could be a worthwhile addition... (Best consider your words before you talk to the guy who doesn't handle criticism well).

What mod is for the icons in 2D. I also basically purchased FM8 for the 2D play, but it just didn't click for me. I am hoping for FM9, this part of the game gets a improvement. Thanks for any advice.
