Maybe you should create a game for us. It boggles my mind that people really think comments like these are ok, or respectful to the OOTP creators time and effort

I love ootp, I’m one of its biggest fans and will always thank Markus and his team for making the best game around. But it’s clear where their efforts go now...and as I said I can’t blame them too much as I doubt they made big bucks for a long time and now they have a chance .

A lot of passion on this thread! While I understand some of the thought and concerns and can appreciate that this game and how deep it goes means different things to different people... some of the rhetoric and comments seem slightly off the wall. Here is the truth.. the game will come out. You might like it, you might not? I personally am content with 21 for now; and if 22 seems better than I will get it. If it does not, then maybe I will stick with what I got. But a least give Markus and his team a chance to put it out. And yes.. if these thoughts help me get the free copy of 22... so be it.

Yep, a lot of freaking out for a game that hasn't come out yet. Let's see what OOTP22 actually is before breaking out the pitchforks.

It's not that comments like the one you quoted are disrespectful. It's that they are blatantly ignoring facts. All one has to do is look at the list of features in OOTP21 to see all of the work that went into the core game. Yet some people think that the lack of announcement about 22 means the core game is going to be ignored, when the only thing that's being ignored is the fact that we never have an announcement in February and the devs never leak anything before the announcement. But somehow this OOTP offseason progressing exactly like every other OOTP offseason means the game is being destroyed.

For those who think the core game was ignored last year, here's a list of new features and upgrades we got. They may not all be appealing to everyone, but any statement saying the core game was ignored last year is just not true.

Quote:
New features in OOTP 21 include:
  • At long last - build your franchise’s dream ballpark! 3D Ballpark Construction Kit 1.0 allows you to configure a 3D stadium to your whims. Choose from many different field shapes and sizes, ballpark layouts and architectural elements and combine them with Ballpark Factors to emphasize the kind of organization you want to put together - defense, power, speed, gaps, you name it. This long-awaited feature lets you live a childhood dream - build your own ballpark!
  • All new Game Flow guides you through the unique OOTP experience in a smart, fully customizable way! Not sure what to do next? Game Flow gets you where you want to be, depending on what’s happening right now. Whether it is Spring Training, the dog days of summer, or the offseason, it is easy to find what to do next. A fun way for newcomers and veterans alike to experience Out of the Park Baseball!
  • Upgraded Live Services! The smashing success of Live Starts expands this season, with additional information being used to make each Live Start even more authentic. Start your OOTP 21 experience from any date of the 2020 MLB season - from Day 1 through the end of the 2020 Postseason - with up-to-the-minute Rosters, Injuries, Trades, Standings, and more!
  • New 2020 MLB rules, tactics, and player strategies! Baseball is changing in significant ways, and we’ve got everything in place. How will you use the all-new 26-man rosters to your advantage, as well as the new 28-man September configuration? How will you strategize around the new 3-batter-minimum for relief pitchers? What will your lineups and rotations look like with separate 10- and 15-day Injured Lists for pitchers and hitters? It’s a whole new world!
  • Community-driven User Experience improvements! A beautiful new interface with fully customizable player page statistics. Plus! Player lists are dramatically improved and can be configured to your liking, with more information than ever available at your fingertips.
  • Big 3D in-game upgrades! New in-game camera modes let you ‘follow the ball’ during the action, multiple camera angles are available for pre-pitch, during the pitch, and after the pitch. Dozens of new 3D animations are in place, and the entire 3D gameplay has been smoothed and polished. Plus, we have completely reworked in-game audio for better crowd and ambient noise during games - including ballpark-specific audio customization!
  • Scouting Reimagined! We have rebuilt scouting from the ground up this year, with significantly improved AI, new visual indicators of scouting accuracy, a new and fully customizable Player Scouting Page, new Needs-based assignments, organically created scouting reports coming at different intervals, and more. You have never experienced scouting in OOTP like this!
  • Drafting Reimagined! A huge amount of new information is in your hands for the draft, including Mock Drafts, Future Draft Classes, sortable Draft History, and more. Realistic high school, college, and junior college player progressions make draft classes more interesting - and authentic - than ever. You will be positioned to dominate!
  • New statistics! Strikeout percentages, walk percentages, strikeout minus walk percentages and more are tracked and displayed to ensure you are fully aware of how successful (or not) your players are.
  • New league customization options! Build your baseball universe YOUR way with improved League Expansion that has been made even more configurable, including long-desired improvement of Minor League team arrangements.
  • The All-Star Weekend goes BIG! For the first time ever, experience and play the Futures Game along with other expanded All Star Game activities.
  • Upgraded technical design under the hood! Reduced save game space requirements use less of your hard drive and optimize the game’s installation and simulation speed.
  • The most active development team in the business roars back this season! Each week we produce dozens of videos and podcasts, including the popular weekly video shows This Week In Perfect Team and Perfect Team Playoff Push every Thursday, multiple Franchise series, and two audio podcasts - OOTP Now and The Kevin Kennedy Show! You are in direct touch with the developers and the community every day.
  • Many more improvements, all built upon the incredibly deep award-winning Out of the Park Baseball engine that has accurately simulated the World Series winner the past three seasons on MLB Network and produced entertaining simulations for FiveThirtyEight.com!

I highly doubt the core game was in development when the game was sold as all the development clearly has gone towards PT and packs over the past couple years. That's why they sold to this new company, to get more money. I don't blame the developers at all, it's what I would probably do. the market for people like us who post on the boards is almost unfathomably deep but incredibly narrow...that's no way to make a big business.

this proves my point kind of. the features they put in the core game are often rushed, sloppy and then never touched again even though they don't really work.

Ballpark creation does not work at an acceptable level.

Game Flow I don't really notice, minor improvement.

Live start I guess is cool, but not something most people would use.

adding in MLB rules is good yes, but something you sort of expect.

scouting and drafting were very sloppily implemented, I think this forum does not think the scouting process is an improvement. it's a vague move in direction of better, but they probably will not revisit and improve it.

the 3D and the interface improved slightly, those clearly had the most time put into them as they are not necessarily "core" game features but can be applied to Perfect Team.

my point is "core" game to me is solo dynasty play, I understand that's not where they make money any more and that's why they don't work that hard on developing it. AI roster construction continues to be bad, financials for all clubs continue to run like they did basically 10 years ago, confusingly and not at all dynamically, owner and storylines are probably 40% finished and don't play out realistically at all, etc, etc. these type of features had a few days work put into them years ago and then are basically left in the game, untouched, for years, as they focus on PT.

In your list of new features I noticed that you missed the new and exciting feature of constant crashing and freezing problems upon release.

Which, you know, might have been avoided if more time was invested in the backbone of the game and less time spent on Perfect Team and Go.....

if you think none of the above was properly thought-out or tested, maybe you could join the beta testing team and assist the personnel trying to weed out and correct issues.

i am not saying nothing slips through, or everything is perfectly corrected, but a great deal of time & effort is put out by those people to get things right and your generalization is putting down all the folks who volunteer their time and knowledge trying to keep this game as great as it is.

Absolutely.

The small group of beta testers can only try to test as much as they can. But the game provides so many ways to personalize it that the beta group simply can't test all aspects.

Once the game is released a lot more users get to test a lot more different set-ups and so bugs appear that nobody found before.
This has nothing to do with the game being rushed or being sloppy.

The Ballpark creation was a new feature in v21 and we all know that these things need some fine tuning from version to version.

I understand (and agree with) every single thing you just said. But the cold hard fact is '21 had more issues than it should. Could those issues have been avoided if not as much time was spent on PT? Maybe. I understand that fully beta testing something as in-depth as OOTP is virtually impossible. Understood and agreed. None of that changes the fact that some people had to quit using the game because of the amount of flaws it had.

And as far as "putting down" the developers... they have received full purchase price from me every single year for the past 10 years. I'm able to voice some displeasure when the need arises. I would rate every single release of OOTP as an "A+" prior to '21. I literally stopped playing '21 after about a month because the freezing and crashing was too much. It was not worth my $40. If that's putting down the developers, than so be it.

Oddly enough, I wouldn't be that upset if they decided not to put out OOTP 22 at all and just updated the roster files for 2021 season, so that they could put all the cycles needed into OOTP Go and more features into OOTP 23. Given the recent purchase of Out of the Park and the PT success, it might not hurt at all that much to wait and get more bang for our buck eventually. You could make a legit argument that, for sports titles, taking a release off about once every 10 years is actually better for the long term viability and quality of the game. Just my personal opinion.

And PLEASE DON'T take this as a rumor with any substance that this is the direction OOTP is taking. I'm not trying to ruffle feathers or get in trouble here with this observation. And there is also a big part of me that does look forward to what might be coming in OOTP 22. I'm just saying if there were a year to bypass, I can understand the reasoning.

What kind of old ass computer you have??? I play on a six years old Dell computer and never saw a single crash in OOTP 21 and I play all my games...

Only bug I have it's the attendance number for an expension team and it was fixed months ago but I didn't want to restart from 1871 when I played at least 50 years of history...

I don't think this is really true anymore. It's definitely been true for 90% of OOTP's history and what made the game the time sink I can spend 10 hours a day on if not careful, but the developers simply do not spend much time on the solo dynasty play anymore. It's not worth their time as so much money is made elsewhere and truly the product is very good already

Has nothing to do with the hardware in the machine not being able to run the game. I'd be willing to bet my specs are better than 98% of OOTP users. 32gb ram, i7 Intel Core processor, NVidia GTX 1070 video card. I should have been able to run the game 10 times over without there being an issue. Compatibility wise though, something didn't get along. Now what that "something" was, I don't know. And after a month of jerking around with it, it was no longer worth the frustration..... If you recall though, there was a sticky thread for this back when '21 was released, this wasn't just my problem. Many, many people were dealing with it.

Regardless though, I'm not trying to dump on the developers. I've paid them for a product year after year and they've more than delivered quality for me, every year up until 21. So they owe me nothing. My snarky little response to a previous poster about the freeze ups was only in response to his list of 100000 new features that '21 offered.

I'm looking forward to seeing what '22 has in store for us, no doubt.

Yeah, I keep shaking my head every time I read this repeated claim about OOTP 21 having some kind of excessive crashing issue at some point. Did I sleep through that? Or is this just once again a case of a person or a few persons have very specific issues with the game that aren't at all widespread and then making broad generalizations, that, oddly, almost nobody seems to be calling them out on.

I'm well on my way to my usual 1,000 hours of game time with this iteration and was playing it from the point of release and can't recall any issues with crashes or freezes or whatever. Pretty much the most stable version I've played yet (admittedly, I only started with OOTP 18.)
