Montreal Expos Stats and Analysis We are half way through the 100 game regular season and the Expos are playing .500 ball, just as the owner expected.
Overall the Expos are the doing well offensively and in the middle of the pack for pitching. They do have soon to be activated from the IR SP Javier Trevino back.
As mentioned Trevino should be back within a week. Arguably he is the Expos #1 starter and he should help the Expos compete down the stretch. Eric Stuarts record should be better, he has pitched well. Scott Turner has been better lately giving up just 6 earned runs in his past 3 starts (19 innings pitched)
The Expos have given up some late leads and have a total of 6 blown saves on the season. By comparison the Cardinals have given up 4, Cubs have 7 blown saves, Houston has 5 and Atlanta 5. The Expos have demoted RHP Jeremy Johnson. The Expos have promoted RHP Carl Mathieu. The 27 year old is 3-3 with 7 saves, a 3.43 ERA in 18 AAA games.
Nate Samms was an All-Star. His numbers look similar to last when he was .277 with 16 HRs and 45 RBIs in 91 games. Ricky Shvartsman had done well in a back up role and mostly used as a PH.
Gene Watkins, Cory Carlson and Fernando Martinez are the every day infielders. Short stop has been a bit of a challenge especially now with Maynard out for an extended period of time. Cory Carlson's power numbers will be better this season, he is on pace for a career high in RBIs this year.
Only RF David Haynes has been a regular in the lineup. Injuries to Willie Garcia and Joe Woodbury have put pressure on Matt Healy and Jon Sullivan to play more then expected. The Expos will demote Healy and Sullivan and take a look at a couple of rookies. Sullivan will need to clear waivers as there was no trade interest. The Expos will promote CF Stan Pardy and CF Danny Platz. The 24 year old Pardy is hitting .292 with 1 HR and 11 RBIs in 31 AAA games. The 25 year old Platz is hitting .260 with 2 HRs and 14 RBIs in 20 AAA games. |
