This was a bizarre, rain-soaked, error-riddled mess of a game that ended up an 18-13 win for Toronto over Oakland.

Edgardo Espinosa hit a grand slam and Al Carlson and Dan Gladden also hit homers.

Robin Yount had 4 hits and Carlson collected 5 RBI.

The Jays even stole 5 bases.

WP - Pepe Romero (2-0)
LP - Jimmy Key (3-2)

Record - 20-7

WP - Bert Blyleven (4-1)
LP - Dave Dravecky (3-2)

Record - 21-7

The Mariners made things awfully interesting in the 9th, scoring twice before Dennis Lamp could shut the door on the 8-7 Toronto win. That is 8 in a row for the Jays.

John Godwin and Al Carlson hit home runs.

WP - Dave Stieb (2-0)
Save - Dennis Lamp (1)
LP - Roger Mason (1-2)

Record - 22-7

Michael Hunter tied the team record by getting five hits, including two home runs! He even walked once!

John Godwin's 9th inning Grand Slam put the exclamation point on this 18-3 thrashing of the Twins for Toronto's 13th straight win.

WP - Ron Darling (5-0)

Despite being 38, the Jays have just signed Nolan Ryan to a 4-year extension for nearly a million per year. (It is heavily back-loaded with two player option years and could bite us in the ass... but I don't think so.)

The fans are thrilled.

TRADE

To RED SOX

Desiderio Holbeche

To BLUE JAYS

Jose Torres

This is a massive salary dump - Holbeche is a Cuban playing in AAA for over a million per year for the next 4 years.

Torres is on a minor league contract.

Jim Beattie was activated from the D.L. and assigned to A-ball on a rehab stint.

The Jays claimed Luis Fernandez and Jim Williams off waivers from the Yankees.

They were both assigned to AAA.

Miguel Pena was named AL Player of the Week. He hit .647 this week. Tony Phillips of the Dodgers won for the NL.

The Jays still sit on top of the Weekly Power Rankings. No surprise there.

SURPRISING TRADE!

To ASTROS

Lance Parrish
Julio Tamayo

To BLUE JAYS

Noa Prigent
Roderyk Duzynski
Derrick Mullins

Apparently the Jays want to go with Salas and Bruno as their catching corps. They traded Parrish for 3 minor leaguers, including a promising yet over-paid one (Prigent).

Domingo Bruno was called up.

After making mince-meat of the Minnesota bullpen, Toronto ran into the White Sox and Frank Viola. No bullpen in sight!

The Jays' streak came to an end with a 5-1 loss.

Paul Molitor hit a solo home run.

WP - Frank Viola (4-2)
LP - Bert Blyleven (5-2)

Record - 28-8
