This was a bizarre, rain-soaked, error-riddled mess of a game that ended up an 18-13 win for Toronto over Oakland. Edgardo Espinosa hit a grand slam and Al Carlson and Dan Gladden also hit homers. Robin Yount had 4 hits and Carlson collected 5 RBI. The Jays even stole 5 bases. WP - Pepe Romero (2-0) LP - Jimmy Key (3-2) Record - 20-7

Despite being 38, the Jays have just signed Nolan Ryan to a 4-year extension for nearly a million per year. (It is heavily back-loaded with two player option years and could bite us in the ass... but I don't think so.)
The fans are thrilled.

Jim Beattie was activated from the D.L. and assigned to A-ball on a rehab stint.
The Jays claimed Luis Fernandez and Jim Williams off waivers from the Yankees. They were both assigned to AAA. Miguel Pena was named AL Player of the Week. He hit .647 this week. Tony Phillips of the Dodgers won for the NL. The Jays still sit on top of the Weekly Power Rankings. No surprise there. SURPRISING TRADE! To ASTROS Lance Parrish Julio Tamayo To BLUE JAYS Noa Prigent Roderyk Duzynski Derrick Mullins Apparently the Jays want to go with Salas and Bruno as their catching corps. They traded Parrish for 3 minor leaguers, including a promising yet over-paid one (Prigent). Domingo Bruno was called up.
