Intriguing. May I ask which changes/features made it so appealing to you?

Glad you guys got paid! Lord knows you deserve it. I think this is good news. Scary yes, we’ve all been burned by good games like Madden or NHL turning bad or worse like NCAA Football going away completely . I do like the comparison to Football Manager. The game went to the next level. I think this sale assures us that if Markus decides to hang it up and do something else in life, the game will continue. I was always worried Markus might choose another passion and then that’s a wrap with OOTP.

I started playing 15, but in 16 my play time took off... 430 hours, which was a lot back then
Every version is better than the last. Every single time, it's a must-buy.

To me the greatest improvement was when Markus and the crew got MLB to allow real team players etc

I was so happy seeing Ken Griffey and not Ken Gruffey

Anyways, I’ve been playing since 2001.
And, still love this game

this thread was more interesting than i thought it would be. i found ootp at ootp 9. ootp 9 looks so primitive now, but i can remember being amazed at how much was in that game. that edition got me so hooked that i have bought every edition since.

It's crazy to think I have been playing this game since 2002! So much has happened in my life since then. Just looking at my screen name, I haven't lived in Florida since 2006.

Joined in OOTP 5 and started playing with online leagues in 6.5

Thanks for this.

Edit: 6.5 was the tipping point that sent this game into overdrive. I don't remember why exactly. But everything came together at that point and the game and the community took on a life of its own and there was no stopping it.

You guys playing yet another new version of OOTP should really consider yourselves lucky. Wow. Imagine if you still had to play a game released fifteen or twenty years ago.

Good luck with Com2uS games corp. Hope they keep up the OOTP tradition.

I have been trying to recall how long I have been playing OOTP baseball. I know I found out about it from an article that ran on the Baseball Prospectus website years ago. I believe it was the first mention of OOTP on the site. I know this is an odd ask, but does anyone know what version of OOTP was being promoted back then? In my head, I seem to recall it as OOTP2. I am hoping someone who has been with Markus since the beginning might know.

Thanks in advance to anyone who might know when OOTP was first mention on Baseball Prospectus.

Of all the features being discussed, I'm surprised no one is talking about 21's best (and apparently most underrated) of them all... GAME SPEED when playing out in 3D!!! LIGHTNING SPEED IS A GAME CHANGER!!! My wife swears y'all heard her suggestion of it while watching me sludge through a 20-30 minute game of OOTP20 in a season I would never finish.

Ha! I tried the fastest speed and I couldn't even see what was happening on the field. I used to play on the Very Fast speed but it was a little too quick. I've toned it down to Fast which is still 3 levels faster than Normal.

Been playing since OOTP4, and find myself playing out more of my games in OOTP22. Obviously, it's the improvement in animation, and the fact that there are so many stadiums/parks available.

And like many others, Football Manager is my other go to game, but around this time of the year, it's all OOTP. Just so many ways to play the game, and I've always felt that the AI is much better in OOTP at managing games when I just want to sim a week or two at a time, then the AI in FM.

I've found so many times that when I have a team in FM that's predicted to win the league or finish top three, if I let the AI run things most of the season, I'm barely top ten, and many times mid-table.

I started with OOTP5 in about 2003. Paid $35 bucks for it. Now 18 years later...its only gone up by $5. For all of that progress.

Not bad, not bad.

One of the key indicators as to how far OOTP has come as far as its historical game is that the historical forums used to be full of discussion about workarounds, alternate files, tweaking settings, etc., in order to get that optimal historical experience. Over the last few years, however, the historical forum is mostly dynasty-type stuff, OOTPers telling their stories, etc. There's still some good discussion about workarounds & settings & so forth from time to time, but not nearly as much as there used to be.

I actually started way back with the original OOTP. I was looking for a game that I could play like when I used to play Micro League Baseball on my Apple IIe as a kid. I narrowed it down to OOTP and, I think it was Diamond Mind Baseball? Would that be right? Well, whatever the other choice was.....I made the right one! Still remember my excitement when the first member made mod was available so we could get real player names! Oh the days before an MLBPA license!

It was absolutely legendary of this studio to release OOTP8 for free. That game got me 100% hooked on this series and I have been a loyal buyer ever since, every other management sim pales in comparison, not just sports management sims either.

Also who remembers ITP — Inside The Park Baseball where you play as a player??

[snipped swearing quote]

I'd be more than happy if perfect team went away. Go play MLB the Show if you want that silly trading card game. Or join an actual online league if you want to play with friends
