Los Angeles Reign
California is the first team in the "ABA" to be the home of two franchises. After San Diego has finalized their deal a few weeks ago Los Angeles has also officially bought in. The city of Angels has decided a nickname tied to royalty with the identity of "Reign". Being the second largest populated city in the United States they feel this branding is the perfect choice. California residents are already claiming who will own the battle of California - SD or LA? The Reign's logo is a shield which the word "Reign" incrusted within along side a sword which tie into the royal motif. Also found within the main logo is the Golden Gate bridge which ties to the iconic bridge in California. They also have a secondary mark designed with similar fashion that reads "Reign" as will with a castle top cutout in the top of the shield. The Reign have decided on three colors that signify royal colorings crimson, royal blue, and gold. Both logos can be found on the left sleeve of the home and road jerseys respectively (one on each). The right shoulder features an interlocking "LA" as well as the caps.

Not sure what it is about this set but I am not sure I like it... I don't think I am sold on the name "Reign" or the color combo. I feel as if some of these teams/logos don't look to baseball-esq (on a professional/MLB level).
Thoughts?

I also have updated the first/original post with a preview of all the logos done this far and to see the variety of color schemes used for each team.

I also recommend a St. Louis team for the West Div 1.

All of these are excellent but that Boston Colonials concept is simply a masterpiece. Well done Sir!
My two favorite names for a fictional Boston team have always been Colonials & Irish. It never occurred to me they could be combined. Well then can, and brilliantly too. |

The set looks fantastic yet another quality set indeed but I do agree that the nickname "Reign" seems off to me. I love the logo and wordmarks but the name itself doesn't ring true to me. All the other team names work great. Sadly I don't have an idea on what to rename your LA team, I find that city is the hardest for me to name in my fictional worlds. Right now I'm using the Los Angeles Golden Eagles. If it feels off to you then perhaps you may want to rebrand them before the "ABA" begins as it may eat away at you.

The only thing I don't buy is an LA-based team paying homage to the Golden Gate Bridge in their logo.

Thanks for all the comments guys. I think St. Louis could certainly become a possibility for a franchise; I will debate using them.
Also as far as LA goes; thats true point about the GG Bridge, wasn't sure if I wanted to use it or not. I may end up rebranding them completely

Columbus Federals
The capital city of Ohio is finally granted a long awaiting professional baseball team - The Columbus Federals. When interviewing the new owner of Columbus he was quoted saying "our team not only represents the rich history of Ohio and the city of Columbus but the United States as well. Named after our Federal army and the battles that were fought our lands founding what is here today." Pulling out a new logo page Columbus' owner handed it to reporters saying "check it out, do you see the symbolism?" Roundels seem to be the trend in the sports world today and the ABA is no exception. The Federals logo depicts the uniforms worn by the Federal army with the white chest sash, two red crossing muskets can be seen also and the blue within the circle may also play a nod to the stye of hats worn in that era. Also to represent the USA a star can be found in the bottom center. The color pattern is red, white, and blue. Both home and red caps can feature a star within the block "C".

So as I continue on and search the internet for ideas and mull some thoughts over on my current teams I decide two for sure things. I will be either rebranding L.A. completely, or keeping the name or changing up the color scheme and canceling out the bridge in the logo. Not sure what I'd like to do yet.
However I got some inspiration for the Detroit Motors and have decided to change the color scheme to Blue/Orange/White like the Tigers since A.) its a great color scheme and B.) adding the Federals to the same division I'd like a little color variation. So below are two new ideas (along with about 10 other somewhat similar variations not included in the image) of what I am thinking for the Motors. They just don't scream "complete" to me... any ideas on what I could do? Also its worth mentioning its a little combination of things. The chevron remains, I included a Cadillac inspired logo in the center, but the added details are actually whats included in Detroit's flag; I just decided to color match them to the logo, and a new font that represents a 50's style car. Anyways not sure whats missing or what I could do to fix it but I don't feel like its strong enough/its missing something.

Here's another idea. Combining the gear with the updated logo. Its not bad but I really wanted to hit a home run/classic vibe for the Motors and I don't think this archives that but still pretty solid.

As far as the "classic" vibe goes, I think it's just a tiny bit too busy. When I think of a "classic" logo, I think of something simpler like the Yankees' NY logo, or the basic Cincinnati Reds' C logo, although I'll admit to being a little biased on that last one.

I revived the name St. Louis Terriers for my fictional set up. I used a version of the River City Rascals bull terrier for the logo. I like that name for St. Louis because of the presence of Ralston Purina there. I kind of anal when it comes to team names matching the city/region. |
