November 5 - Atlantics 1b Wally Andrews is out 2 months - fractured finger in fight with bouncer at a local club. 5 - Buffalo trades 20yo SS Roberto RIvera to the Olympics for 26yo RP Tom Stevens. 10 - The White Stockings sign star FA SP Old Hoss Radbourn to a 3yr deal. 15 - The Athletics send 23yo RP Hector Vela to the Centenniels for 24yo CF Martin Coates and 20yo CF Esteban De La Cruz. 27 - The Stars trade 29yo CF Naonobu Tanaka to the Haymakers for 29yo P David Campbell and 18yo CF Francisco Jimenez. 28 - Haymakers sign FA SS Joe Gerhardt to a 3yr deal. December 5 - Resolutes sign FA RF Frank Heifer to a 2yr deal. 7 - Atlantics trade 30yo RP Hugh Metcalf and 19yo SP Steve Waters to the White Stockings for 27yo CF Mark Hill. 10 - FA CF Steve Henderson signs 7yr deal with Troy. 1880 is over and done with, I ran it straight through and although it was over with quickly, it leaves me a little out of the action and I have littel to say on the season over all so I think that was the last time that will be done. 1881 will see the addition of the Detroit Wolverines to the NL, and it will be the final season with just two leagues. In 1882, the American Association will be added and things will become a bit more interesting and there will be a lot more information so the way I post things might be a bit different after next season. I am debating whether to add any famous people to the AA in the first year but we will see. The 1881 Season will be done tomorrow afternoon. Enjoy.

I am pondering if some of the teams in the National Association should receive name changes, especially with there still being two Forest Citys. Cleveland cant be the Blues, Naps, Spiders, infants or Indians but I sure there is a name or two I could come up with. Thought about Rockers (rock and roll hall of fame) but I am not sure where to take the Rockford team. Decisions, decisions. AI has made no changes to the league since I turned on evolution but that is ok I guess. Will most likely not get to a new season today, gonna relax and ponder some family issues for the day, been a bad couple of days so need some time. 1881 season tomorrow for sure.

I have decided to change the Rockford Forest Citys to the Rockford Reds and because business is about to pick up with the addition of the American Associate in two seasons and the Union Association in four, I am going to change the reporting format a bit on this dynasty.
I am going to keep news and notes but the number will be greatly reduced to trades and major events (no hitters, records, retirements and other things of that nature). How I plan to post things Draft Round 1 for each leauge Top Prospects for each league, News and notes for each league - major stuff only (will include all news of the added players for fun) Finals standings in each league Finals Hitting and pitchings for each league League Title overviews (if applicable) Awards for each league That will make it easier on me and once I get to 1914 and all the leagues are up and running, may revamp this a bit. Not only will this allow me to move a bit quicker to get to the place where all the leagues are going, it will allow me to maybe have a little more creativity in the news and notes. Just feels a bit off to me so far. Hope everyone keeps reading and that some are enjoying this. It is a fun league. Before I forget, there was a request for a quickstart of this league. I will work on that later but seriously, the only things you need to do to start this league is do a set up of a historical league in 1871 and go from there.

Detroit Wolverines enter play in 1881 in the National League
1881 Detroit Wolverines Expansion Draft Round 1-10 1st - C Mike McGeary 2nd - CF Bill Kinnard 3rd - RF Charlie Reising 4th - MR Hugh Daily 5th - 3b Billy Henry Taylor 6th - RF Nat Hudson 7th - 2b Cyclone Miller 8th - MR Alonzo Breitenstein 9th - MR Jerome Turner 10th - SP Manolao Morales Looks like the Wolverines were determined to build for offense and defense first. 1 starter and 2 MR pitchers in the top ten picks, no one of major noteriety.

NA Breaking News
Rockford - After many years of sharing the same team mascot with Rival Cleveland, the Rockford Forest Citys today announced that the teams new name is the Rockford Reds. The Ownership was questioned about sharing the name with the National League's Cincinnati team, Rockford's owner Michael Tyreman was quoted saying " That is a different league and quite frankly, I could care less what a team in the National League has to say."

1881 NL and NA News and Notes
April 4-1 Hartford RHP Harry Salisbury will mss 9-10 months - torn labrum 4-11 Red Caps SP Lady Baldwin (what a name for a ball player) beat the Blues 11-0 on 1 hit. 4-18 The St. Louis Brown Stockings extend winning streak to 10 games. 4-23 Mutuals RF Dick Pierson leads the Mutuals to a 26-1 win over the Bison, going 5-6 in the process. 1881 NL April Standings 1881 NA April Standings 1881 NL April Overview 1881 NA April Overview In the NL, April finds the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago White Stockings out in front and tied for the lead. The Expansion Wolverines are not in dead last, actually winning 10 games so far. In the NA, April finds Middletown Mansfields and Brooklyn Atlantics tied for first in League 1, a half game ahead of both the Whites and Forest Citys of Cleveland. Early news makers the Rockford Reds find themselves 4 and a half games out, just behind trade happy Ft. Wayne, not sure the trades are working for them yet. In League 2, Keokuk Westerns have a half game lead on the Marylands of Baltimore. Both races are fairly tight, with the exception of League 2's New Haven, they seem to be listless 10.5 games out with only 6 wins. May may shake things out a bit better in both the NL and NA.

He allowed jsut 3 hits and collected 3 Ks along the way. To date, he has pitched in 15 games, has a 9-5 record. In 128 innings he has 7 walks and 26 strikeouts. 23 - THe Wolverines have traded 29yo RP U O'Rourke to the Trojans for 22yo 2b Corey Bush. (Detroit's first trade). 26 - The Rockford Reds have a 10 game winning streak. 26 - The Forest Citys trade 22yo 2b Gates Gagnon and 19yo RP Kakana Kukane to the Athletics for 24yo RF Chief Roseman. 26 - The Canaries 21yo SS Alfredo Mora and 20yo SS Rich Hill to the Wolverines for 28yo 2b Joe Quest. 27 - New Haven traded 24yo RF John Pearson and 21yo SS Roberto Rodriguez to the Keokuk Westerns for 29yo 3b Mike Brannock. 28 - Eckfords CF Bobby Miller is out 6-7 months - ruptured medial collateral ligament. 1881 NL May Standings and Overview. 1881 NA May Standings and Overview. Quite of bit of trade action for May with a few injuries to boot. Making for an interesting June possibly. Detroit got into the swing of things by making two trades but not sure it helped or hurt them yet. Well, two months gone and in the NL, Reds, Brown Stockings, White Stockings, Grays and Red Caps are all within 5 games of each other with the Reds clinging to a 1 game lead. Interesting month. Reds were able to hold on to first but they did not extend it at all. The newcomers Detroit have 20 wins and are not in last just yet, may be the trades can help them get the ship righted. In the NA, League 1 has a little more definition to it, but not much. The Atlantics are holding a 2 game lead over the Mansfields but can they extend that lead in June. In League 2, the Westerns have a game lead over the Eckfords with th Marylands just 2 back. This could be a three team race before long. The woeful Elm Citys are still in last in League 2, only have 17 wins so far.

Hogg is 14-10 with a 2.12 ERA. 1881 NL June Standings and Overview 1881 NA June Standings and Overview Not a lot happening in June, couple of trades here and there and only one major injury. From the looks of things, the second half could be a great half of baseball. In the NL, the White Stockings are not on top, 2 games ahead of the Brown Stockings and 4 games ahead of the Grays. Cincinnati has fallen to 4th, 6 games back. In the NA, League 1 is Middletown has opened up a 3 game lead over the Atlantics. In League 2, Eckfords are up 1.5 over the Westerns, 3 over the Centenniels, 4.5 over the Red Stockings and 5.5 over the Nationals. Things are starting to heat up and July could be very important for every team.

Good amount of activity, including one of the most lopsided trades I have seen. No idea what it was made for but I dont run any teams. In the NL, The Chicago White Stockings are in first, 2 ahead of the Red Caps, 3 ahead of the Brown Stockings and 5 ahead of the Grays. Still a very close race. August should be a fun month. In the NA, In League 1, the Atlantics are up 2 over the Mansfields and 3 over the Whites, while in League 2, the Red Stockings are 1.5 games over the Eckfords, 3.5 over the Nationals and Westerns, 4.5 over the Centenniels and 5.5 over the Marylands. 1881 NA August Standings and Overview
The NA is setting up for the final weeks with some close races. League 1 is led by the Atlantics who are 6.5 games ahead of the Whites, the Atlantics magic number is 12. In League 2, the race is far from even close to being settled. The Westerns are back in first, a half game ahead of the Red Stockings, a game ahead of the Centenniels, 2 games ahead of the Eckfords and 3 games ahead of the Marylands. The magic number for the Westerns is 17. This is still anyone's league.

1881 NA Final Standings
1881 NA Hitting and Pitching Leaders 1881 NA Championship Overview Interesting, I forgot that there is a lack of a few games in the NA. Scheduling is not giving them the full 140 games, gonna have to work on that. The Atlantics faced off with the Westerns and took the title in 6 games. Very fun year to watch in the National Association. Next up - My Added players hitting and pitchers

1881 Added players Hitting
1881 Added Players Pitching On the pitching side of things, Hogg and Krueger had winning season and did extremely well for themselves. Jefferson Davis Hogg gets NA Best Pitcher honors as he had just a slightly better season, just barely. On the hitting side of things, Drew Carey had a very good season but most o them did not do bad. Kix ' Boot Scootin' Brooks fell off just a little and did not have as good a year as he did the previous one. Gonna add more famous players to the new AA leagues first draft, to add more interest to the game, included might be a very young alter ego of ME, lol. Final part of the 1881 season coming up and then some explaination of the addition of the American Association.

The American Association will be opening its doors in 1882, with six teams, but only 2 new teams.
The Cincinatti Red Stockings (formerly Reds), Philadelphia Athletics, Louisville Eclipse(formerly Gray) and the St. Louis Brown Stockings will be move to the new league from the National League and the Pittsburgh Alleghenys and Baltimore Orioles will be the only two new teams for the new league. Meanwhile, the National will be losing the four previously mentioned teams but Providnece Grays will be added to make the NL have 11 teams anyway. The AA will last until 1891 and teams will come as they do in the NL until the 1892 season when the American Association will become like the NA did. Looking ahead to the 1884, we will be four leagues as the one and done Union Association will come into existence for one season and then it will join the NA as a free agent using league. This will be fun to see and the more the merrier.
