Dave Goltz had a perfect game until the 5th when the Jays' first hit was a solo homer by Biff Pocoroba. The game see-sawed a bit until it when into extras tied at 3. In the top of the 10th Dale Ryan got a lead-off single, then after a fly-out he stole second. THen he advanced to third on a second fly ball before scoring as Skip McBeath snuck a ball through the infield.

WP - Dennis DeBarr (1-0)
Save - Victor Cruz (6)
LP - Dave Goltz (3-3)

Record - 13-17

The perils of getting over-confident...

On a rain soaked day, Miinesota was down 11-1 in the bottom of the 9th. Three Toronto pitchers later Victor Cruz got the 11-8 save.

Skip McBeath went 4 for 5 with a triple and two homeruns, including an inside-the-park round-tripper! He also collected 6 RBI.

Oscar Gamble also got his league leading 10th homer.

WP - Ed Whitson (2-0)
Save - Victor Cruz (7)
LP - Bill Bonham (4-3)

Record - 14-17

Pete Vuckovich pitched his best game of the season and got lots of run support as he went all 9 in an 8-1 win over the Rangers.

WP - Pete Vuckovich (3-5)

Mark Foster gave way to Dennis DeBarr with a slight lead, but DeBarr couldn't hold it, allowing the tying run in the 8th and two more in the 9th as the Rangers won 5-3.

WP - Mike Caldwell (2-1)
Save - Rudy May (2)
LP - Dennis DeBarr (1-1)

Mike Parrott got destroyed, lasting one inning and giving up 6 runs (though only one was actually earned due to a couple of errors, including one by Parrott).

Not what you want in game 1 of a double-header.

Rangers won 9-6.

WP - Andy Replogle (1-0)
Save - Tom Bruno (2)
LP - Mike Parrott (2-5)

Record - 15-19

After the tough game 1, the Jays were a little light in the bullpen so they pushed Jeff Byrd a little further than they should have... and it cost them.

Rangers won 10-6.

WP - Rick Wise (4-2)
Save - Rudy May (3)
LP - Jeff Byrd (2-1)

Record - 15-20

Ed Whitson pitched well after a bit of a shaky start. He held Cleveland to 2 runs into the 9th when the ball was turned over to Victor Cruz to slam the door and notch a 3-2 win.

Oscar Gamble got his 11th homer of the season.

WP - Ed Whitson (3-0)
Save - Victor Cruz (8)
LP - Mike Flanagan (3-6)

Record - 16-20

I am shopping Dan Meyer but I am finding no takers so far. I would rather move Meyer and keep Mankowski up.

Things were looking good but when Mark Foster ran out of gas, Dennis DeBarr wasn't able to bail him out. Eventually it went to extra innings where Dusty Baker went deep and sent the Cleveland fans home happy with a 9-6 win.

WP - Shane Rawley (1-0)
LP - Mike Barlow (0-1)

Jeff Byrd, Victor Cruz and Mike Barlow combined to shut out the Baltimore Orioles 5-0. Cruz was set to finish the game and grab the 2-inning save, but he had to leave with some pain in his pitching arm. We await further news.

Matt Robinson hit his 4th homer of the season.

WP - Jeff Byrd (3-1)
LP - Russ Baumgarten (0-3)

Record - 18-22

Ed Whitson continued to be the best arm in the Jays rotation as he handled the Orioles nicely, going into the 7th, giving up 2 runs while his team plated 6. Eventually the final would be 6-3.

Al Woods 2 for 4 with his 2nd homer of the season and 2 RBI.

WP - Ed Whitson (4-0)
Save - Mark Clear (3)
LP - Dennis Martinez (5-3)

Record - 19-22

Very bad news from the doctor's office.

Victor Cruz has torn the flexor tendon in his elbow. It is expected that he will miss the next 12 months.

Rick Camp has been called up to take his roster spot.
