1918 Regular Season Game 12
Bullet Joe does it Again! ![]() Bullet Joe Bush recorded his 2 shutout and 3rd complete game of the year in a 6-0,4 hit, win over the A’s. Bush has reduced his ERA to a microscopic 0.33 on the year. Bush considered by many to be a afterthought in the rotation in spring Training is slowing establishing himself as the Ace of the staff which is an impressive accomplishment on a staff that includes the likes of Carl Mays, Burliegh Grimes, Dutch Leonard and Babe Ruth! ![]() RF Harry Hooper is gaining the respect of all his team mates and the league with his defensive prowess, in the 9th inning with a runner on 2nd he made an amazing catch crashing into the wall in RCF and Jimmy Dykes was forced to retreat back to 2nd base. On the next play he gunned down Dykes at the Plate trying to score from 2nd on a single preserving the shutout for Bush. ![]() ![]()

Rex Sox Off Day report
Off Day Report Rip Conway opted to Walk the mile from Boston Braves Stadium to Fenway park today to report to the Rex Sox instead of taking the short Trolley Ride. It gave him time to reflect on his future. Obviously the Braves had no use for him, even after hitting a Home, stealing a baser and batting .273 in spring, albeit in only 15 AB he had never played this regular season for the Braves. It can’t get any worse for him. He should see some utility duty for the Sox and will be used as a defensive replacement and PH-Bunting specialist. ![]() Injuries ![]() Note: Hack Wilson will return from the DL in 4 days Up next The Senators come to town for a 4 game series!

Walter Johnson Hammers Rex Sox! ![]() Walter Johnson helps his own cause with a Grand Slam in the 7th inning while trailing 1-0. Errors were the downfall of the Red Sox once again! 3b Fred Thomas mishandled a grounder to allow the first batter to reach, Patsy Gharrity Attempting a Sacrifice with the corners in beat out a perfect bunt to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Burliegh Grimes didn’t help his cause by committing an error that loaded the bases. After 2 throws to 3rd by Grimes the Infield moved in to prevent the squeeze play, Johnson fouled the first pitch off, took the next to Balls and swung and missed making the count 2-2, He then promptly disposed of the next pitch in the LF Bleachers 370 feet away giving Washington a 4-1 lead and deflating the home crowd, the Sox never recovered today! ![]() Todays scores ![]() Next game Dutch Leonard goes for his second win against Doc Ayres

Boston Pitching Sound again ![]() Bob Harmon finally had a quality outing Four Pitchers combined for a big 2-1 victory against the Washington Senators leaving 9 runners stranded on base. Reliever Jean Dubuc saw his first action of the season but it didn’t last long as after only 2 batters and 10 he landed himself on the DL with a sore Hamstring, Jean strained it attempting a pick off at second base . Bob Harmon pitched an inning and Ferdie Schupp recorded his first save retiring 1 Left Handed, which is why he was brought here in the first place. ![]() ![]() Todays Games ![]() LF Hack Wilson was activated today from the DL, while he still has one more day of injury time he is eligible to come off, MR Jean Dubuc was placed on the DLffice ![]() ![]()

Sox Bats come alive! ![]() Harry Hooper has always been feared as a Great defender with a cannon arm, but now hitting .304 and leading the league in Stolen Bases word is getting around about his offense Down 3-0 in the bottom of the 3rd Boston bats came alive and reeled off 7 runs to give Carl mays a very comfortable lead.Mays then cruised through the next 7 innings unscathed. Hack Miller freshly offthe DL was 1-4 with 2 runs and 3 RBI in his debut in LF. Miller got off to a shaky start committing 2 errors in the 2nd inning but then settled downand it was smooth sailing for him. Once the game was out of reach many a players saw action at several positions and by the end of the game The Sox had 3 Pitchers on the field Mays on the mound, Coombs in CF and Kinny at 1B, the 2 latter pitchers are very capable fielders at their respective positions. These players combined with Ruth when he returns give management many options for lineups and switches during the course of any given game. The 35 year old Coombs is actually a very good outfielder. ![]() ![]() Todays Games ![]() Next Up: The Hated Yankees for a 2 game series at the Polo Grounds

1918 Regular Season Game 18
Grimes drops to 0-5, see's the error of his ways Burliegh Grimes isnow 0-5 on the season with a 2.84 ERA. The errors just keep on coming when hepitches and usually they result in runs. Injuries have inflated the Sox Error count no doubt, when you have a lotof players playing positions they have very little or no experience at errorsare naturally going to occure. Take for example Lee Magee who played 6 games at2B with 30 chances and committed no errors, then due to injuries was forcedinto the OF where in 48 chances he flubbed it 6 times. He replaced TillieWalker who in 20 chances had dropped the ball only once. Pete Johns has messedup 2 balls in 7 chances in LF. To say we need Ruth back in the line up, even ifhe made errors we feel that his Bat would probably counter that pretty well! ![]() Run and Gunned
![]() NY C Truck Hannah Doesn’t like to run, he doesn’t like itwhen you run and usually it isn’t a good idea to try as the Red Sox Playershave found out, Hannah has thrown out 60% of the runners who’ve tried to stealon him this year and Sox runners are 3 for 8 against him…The only one with anysuccess? League leader in steals Harry Hooper who has 2 steals in 3 attemptsagainst him and only been caught 2 of 12 attempts on the year. When Hooper wasasked what the secret to not getting caught by truck was his reply was simple….Justdon’t run and you won’t get caught. Hannah has thrown out 21 of the 35 runnersthis season and this manager will remember that! Todays Games ![]()

The offense was led by Sam McInnis who was 2-3 witn 2 runs and an RBI.Boston running woes continued against Yankee Backup C Roxy Walters who threwout 3 of the 4 runners attempting to steal (including Harry Hooper). ![]() ![]()

Baker Hits a Walk-Off ![]() Frank Baker hands Bullit Joe his first loss of the seasonwhile living up to his nickname with a 2 out 2 run walk off Homer. With thescore tied 4-4 it looked like extra innings for the rivals until the crack ofthe bat and it was obvious that wouldn’t happen as soon as the ball left thebat as the ball was hit an estimated 438f barely clearing the fence. Bakers hitit to the perfect spot, a little to left of right and it could very well havebeen caught. ![]() Todays Games ![]() Up Next 3 games @ Washington (Game 2 will be the rematch of B.Grimes vs W. 1918 Regular Season Game 22
Johnson Beats Grimes Again! ![]() Joe Judge gave Walter Johnson all the run support he needed going 2-5 with 1 runs and 3 RBI and a 2 run Homer. Burleigh Grimes dropped to 0-6 on the year and is quite thehard luck story. Burleigh usually pitches well enough to win, however eitherthe errors demolish his chances of he runs into a buzz of a pitcher….then thereare days when they both happen at the same time. Grimes gave up 5 runs ,yetonly 2 earned. All 3 unearned runs were scored in the 1st inning offGrimes and put him in a hole against possibly the greatest pitcher of this ofany era, Walter Johnson. Grimes luck hasto change sooner or later so the odds are with him now! ![]() Todays Games ![]() Up Next is the League Heptagonal Report, you won't want to miss it!

1918 Heptagonal Report
First off I would like to thank everyone who has read some of this thread, everyone who has clicked here accidently and even the people who checked it out once and said “That’s Stupid” and never came back…all of you moved my views counter to its current number 1,337 (as of this writing)
Thanks, I sincerely appreciate the support of each and every one of you. I was thinking about how often to do a review, you know show actual Stats, Leaders, Standings and do a general in-depth review of the happenings around the league, I wanted to do it often enough to help track the 1918 season as a whole, without doing it too often and making this a Whole “League” Dynasty. That’s not what this thread is about. It’s about Babe Ruth Supposedly. note: (Babe Ruth ending up on the DL and having had not actually played a Regular season game as of yet is an act of the Baseball GODS and out of my control) While I could have edited him and had him on the field to begin the year, the purpose of this Dynasty is to create “An Alternate History” and the events as they have developed certainly qualify for that goal! So anyway, I needed to select how often to do this update and I wanted them to be in equal segments (or at least pretty close to equal) Once a month seemed too cliché. Once a week was just too often. Cutting the season in half would produce equal time frames but wasn’t nearly often enough. The I realized that 22 x 7 = 154, the exact number of games on the 1918 schedule (IRL the season was shortened due to events unfolding during WWI) and so the Baseball GODS have spoken and I bring you the Heptagonal (which means having 7 sides for you geometrically challenged people out there) Baseball Report and Review. The next who knows how many post will be such a report, your see names on it like Speaker, Sisler, Cobb, Hornsby, Johnson, Tiller, Wheat, Roush, Baker and a whole bunch of guys you’ve never heard of. The next few post will include stats for almost every player in 1918…all of them except the guy this whole thread is about, Babe Ruth! Enjoy!
