Thanks Scot, I am real happy with the way lineups play into fights so far, really any team is capable of beating any other team with the right matchups and a well time knockout..

Moment of the Match

Styles make fights and Tommy Gibbons took advantage of superior boxing skills to make Gerry Cooney wish he was fighting someone else. Gibby, who now has 8 points from his last 2 bouts controlled Cooney and never let the power punching Irishman get untracked. The jab was key weapon here and Gibby fed Cooney a steady diet of the punch, while working angles nicely. Holding Hebron to a season low 4 points, the Sounders appear to be on the move, winning their second straight after dropping their first 4 matches of the season.

Moment of the Match

The Heeney/Kennedy pier sixer could easily qualify as the two men stood toe to toe and blasted each other for three rounds. But once again, a single punch thrown in a loss provides the difference in the match. Vassily Jirov completely dominated Bob Dunlap in the 1st and 3rd rounds, backing him up, hurting him and beating him to the punch. Round 2 was not much different, with the exception of a wicked right hand counter late in the stanza the dumped Jirov on his backside and put a lost round in the plus column for Dunlap. Though he lost the fight, Dunlap's knockdown gave the win to Buckeye, in what otherwise would have been a drawn match.

The result was a disappointment to the home crowd, which set a season attendance high following The Punching Bags first win in round 5.

Moment of the Match

What a time for Manual Quezada to gain his first win of the season as he blasts out Mervine Thompson in just over a minute for the walkoff KO win for Ice Tea. The match started slowly, with both fighters probing early on. Thompson moved in and Quezada timed a lead perfectly putting Mervine behind the wall of sleep before he hit the floor. The big finish overshadowed a huge upset as Kevin McBride stopped John Henry Lewis on cuts to lead things off, giving the 'Clones Cyclone' his 2nd straight upset stoppage win.

Moment of the Match

Corrie Sanders may have to change his nickname from 'The Sniper' to 'The Closer' with performances like this. Tied at 5 heading into the final match, Sanders kept the Cornjabbers unbeaten, dropping Terry Hinke 4 times and administering a tremendous beating in the process. The anchor spot in a fight lineup can often decide a match result and Sanders left absolutely no doubt in this one. The Eddie Neilson phenomenon also continues to grow as the plucky brit remained unbeaten, with several in the small crowd spotted wearing camo T-shirts, emblazoned with the Union Jack and "Eddie's Army" across the front.

Hi all, I have all lineups but one, so I will run a couple matches later tonight since I have a coaches clinic tomorrow that will run all day (Yes, Football starts for us before the Super Bowl is played)

I will finish the matches I don't get to tonight after the clinic, then get Sundays matches in either before or after the Super Bowl.

Good luck to everyone!!

Moment of the Match

To slug or not to slug? This match featured two of the WTB's hardest punchers and in the end it was the inability of one to do what he was drafted to do that decided the outcome. With both Sullivan and Cooney facing favorable matchups, John L brought home the mail, dropping Quinn Navare and pounding him senseless to tally over half of his teams points on the evening. It would be the only fight Hebron would lose, but two draws and two narrow decisions couldn't offset the lethal right Mitt of Sullivan. Cooney never had Roy Lazer in trouble and with only one knockout in eight fights now, has yet to deliver the promised thunder. Though he can not be blamed for his teams loss, if Cooney had only equaled 'The Boston Strongboy' Hebron would be popping Champagne instead of crying in their collective beers.

Moment of the Match

Tommy Gibbons only had to win 1 round and then stay on his feet to secure Washington's 3rd straight win. While many would have coasted, Gibbons came out and made a statement, dropping Kennedy 30 seconds into the fight, then dominating him over three rounds. Sitting down on his punches in rounds one and two, Gibbons shook Kennedy repeatedly and kept him on his heels. In the 3rd Gibbons got the jab working, peppering Kennedy then dancing away, as the latter lunged at him in wild desperation.

Moment of the Match

Should it be any surprise that the MOM goes to the 'Doller Twenty Five Wonder' Eddie Neilson. After a very close first round against Mervine Thompson, Neilson was dropped in round 2 and barely beat the count, regaining his feet at 9. Thompson made little effort to finish the fight and it would come back to haunt him. Thompson started round 3 fast and it looked like Eddie would be tasting defeat for the first time in his WTB career, when a short right hand crashed into Thompson's temple. 'The Cleveland Thunderbolt' collapsed to the canvas and scarcely moved as he was counted out, giving Neilson his 7th straight win. The 4 point swing in this fight proved the difference for Nebraska after Hide was upset in the final fight of the evening by the streaking Kevin McBride.

Moment of the Match

An exciting back and forth match that ended appropriayely in a draw after clean sweeps in the final two fights. The turning point of this battle however was not determined by a punch, but by a head. A comfortable favorite leading things off for Ice Tea, Ossie Ocasio became frustrated by Seth Mitchell's wrestling tactics and drove his head into Mitchell's nose. With both fighters already warned for thuggish tactics, referee Joe Cortez immediately called for the bell and awarded the bout to Mitchell. The extra point gained by Louisville for Ocasio's meltdown salvaged a tie for the visiting Clays, and left Ice Tea's namesake and owner shaking his head in frustration.

Moment of the Match

These two opened the season with a tight match and round 2 was just as intense. Once again Gerry Cooney failed to finish an opponent he had down and it resulted in a 6-6 deadlock heading into the final bout. Things looked grim for the Punching Bags, but the much maligned Paddy Ryan fought like a caged animal, surviving a 2nd round knockdown and edging David Izon to secure the upset for the homestanding Punching Bags. What makes Ryan's heroics so improbable is that he doubled his season point total in the win as he was dead last in the league with only 2 points from 7 matches for his team. The Punching Bags are hoping to use this win to improve steadily declining attendance in their cavernous arena in the second half of the season.

Moment of the Match

Washington is the hottest team in the league outside of Nebraska as they take their 4th straight after an 0-4 start. The turnaround can be largely attributed to streaking Tommy Gibbons, who once again took on and defeated the best his opponent had to offer. Gibbons was belted out in 1 round by John L Sullivan in the pre-season Chilton Cup tournament and he was on the ropes early in round 1 of their 2nd meeting. But Gibbons did not wilt this time and gave the great John L a boxing lesson James Corbett would be proud of in rounds 2 and 3. Honorable mention goes to Tor Hamer, who has contributed beyond expectations in this run. Hamer clinched the win today when he dropped Bob Dunlap in the final round of the night, after losing the first 2 rounds by a decisive margin. His ledger gets a loss, but as Hamer indicated post match, the WTB is a team sport and his team continues to roll.

Line-ups have been released for the upcoming match pitting the 1st place Nebraska Cornjabbers against Ice Tea Boxing.

Eddie Neilson will be paired against John Henry Lewis in the 3rd bout of the match. The entire WTB fanbase is anxious to see if the 'Dollar Twenty Five' wonder can keep the streak alive against what is sure to be his toughest test of the season thus far.

..
Neilson....................Lewis
Tune in after the Super Bowl to find out.
