This keeps the owners from sticking the player with a league minimum contract for a player worth more, but allows the team to retain the rights to the player if they like. From looking at the player reports and screen shots of the game this is included.

The Draft Picks for signing a top flight free agent is free agency compensation, it involves adding different "sandwich" rounds of varying length in between rounds of the draft in addition to transfering draft picks.
But you DO have to offer them arbitration in order to get a draft pick, correct? If you do not offer them arbitration you get jack in return, and that draft pick pricetag will keep some FAs from getting signed (Jose Manzanillo comes to mind).
And that's what I was referring to.

Scouting

I appologize if this has been mentioned before. I haven't seen it, but may have missed it. It also seems that it would be a lot of work.

One thing I'd love to see is the ability to use scouts, in a couple different manners.

Amateur Draft & Player Signings
I am by no means a MLB Draft expert, but as far as I know, only players from North American are eligible to be drafted. Teams could invest in scouting the Dominican Republic for the next Vladimir Guerrero. It would give solo-fictional league GMs another aspect of player development, that I know I would enjoy.

Scouting Other Leagues
Less interesting, but nonetheless fun, would be the ability to scout and sign players who are a little older, but have played in Independant Leagues, Japan, Cuban Defectors or some other league.

===
I've been a big fan of the Championship Manager series for quite a few years and scouting is a major component of the game (at least for me ) ... just thought I'd throw this out and see what kind of reaction it gets.

Financials enhanced ?

Hopefully the Financial system is being rebuilt to take into account the Salary Cap. A few issues with the current Financial System :

1 - You can't work with just a salary Cap. My league Cap is 100 Mil... Available for signing should always equal 100 Mil - Current Salary - any outstanding offers. No Exceptions !!!

2 - The player demands are never relevant to the salary cap. I mean a guy asking for 10-12 Mil when the cap is 40 Mil is absurd...

Hopefully some of these issues are being addressed. OOTP is by far the best simulation out there, but there is always room for serious improvements before the wife and kids get added in :-)

Thanks,
Chas

Those are great ideas. I would love to be able to scout other countries and leagues, that would add to the game. Keep up the good work Markus.

hi there, i have few question about ootp5,

here is a list of what i am looking for in ootp5 and i would like to know if there is such feature in ootp5

- ability to negotiate Tv deals

- more contract option (signature bonus, performance bonus,
salary gradation (I.E. 1st year 1mil, 2nd year 2mil, 3rd year 4mil)

- ability to trade money, draft turns

an easy interface to create new league from scratch with name,
financial editor on the creation menu instead of creating a league then edit everything

better editor to create local pro league

The only thing I was really hoping to see that is not there yet is the pitchers having no set roles, just having differences in endurance and performance.

how impossible would it be to add something like Cato's utility directly into the game? that would take care of League History/Record Books/Hall Of Fame in and of itself, and would be so incredible to have a database produced for you by the game without having to go through all the pains involved with using the utilities.
I second both of these! Great ideas! These would really take the game to the next level!

Keep up the great work Markus! Can't wait until March!

Please include HTML Exporting of Play By Play!

I can't ask for this enough - give us a way to export play by play into HTML or a text file. It would really add a lot to online leagues, giving me the ability to "show" all the teams our all-star games, world series games, etc.

I know this was mentioned as a possible addition to OOTP4, please, please give it to us for OOTP5.

Arbitration isn't only for those players. If you look at some of the guys up for arbitration right now. Greg Maddux comes to mind. I believe that players that are free agents can be offered arbitration by their teams in some form to assist in signing the players. I am not sure of the total rules for it but I do know that it goes more deeply than what you have described so far. But you are correct with regard to the players that you described that get it also, there is just more to it.

I do believe that, it goes as follows.
A player who is of major league service time of 6 years, and their contract is up (Some players sign contracts that takes them out of Free Agency for a year or two, like Torii Hunter) they can be offered arbitration by their current clubs. The player can either accept or decline. If he declines he must sign by a certain date (this year it was Jan 8), and if he does not he can no longer sign with that team (or he can in some exceptions, but not to be activated until May 1st. Deion Sanders once did this, as did Jose Manzanillo last year). I believe the same signing with other team rules go for if a player is not offered arbitration. If a player declines the arbitration, he carries a pricetag of a compensatory draft pick to whichever team signs him (Cliff Floyd, Tom Glavine come to mind). A player can accept the arbitration (Greg Maddux as you pointed out), and then he that team's property. They can either agree to a deal (Bret Boone last year) or head to arbitration and let the arbitrator decide. That's the jist of it, if I left any part out or am wrong, let me know so I can get this correct if asked

Tell me you're kidding. Tell me it's all a joke and you were just pulling our collective legs.

It's hard enough balancing my OOTP obsession with my REAL family's needs, now I have to worry about getting a VIRTUAL DIVORCE?

Great, now I can be nagged by someone who DOESN'T exist.

Am I going to get emails from my "wife" telling me I'm spending too much time at the ballpark? That I forgot our "anniversary"?

Am I going to be able to download a "wifepack", and if so, will Jennifer Connolly be available?
This is a part of the game that is somewhat "hidden"... you do not need to pay any attention if you don't care! I personally wanted this feature in there because I like the idea of managing your virtual son and see him rise through the minors and make his big league debut.

AGAIN, this is a feature that doesn't need any attention if you do not care!

Oh, I forgot to mention that those houses and cars will not be part of it... I planned it but it makes no sense at all

Will there be players like Shawn Kemp that have many virtual sons in many virtual cities?

And people question whether there will be enough features to add in future versions?

Will there be any new features in OOTP5 that keep you from sending veteran players to the minors. I don't think we need to add all the MLB transaction rules into the game, but at least something that keeps teams from sending veterans down.

Great Game!
