War Ruddock! I never thought about Razor vs Chuvalo before, but that would be a war.

Canada - HW Division Round 2
Heavyweights round 2:
George Chuvalo vs Raymond Olubowale - Chuvalo got off to a slow start in the first 2 rounds but then took over, landing bomb after bomb for the 3rd, 4th and 5th. At the end of the 5th, the cumulative damage was such that Olubowale was out on his feet and the fight was stopped, sending Chuvalo on to round 3! Robert Cleroux vs Jack Gagnon - Gagnon gave as good as he got in this one for the first 6 rounds as things were dead even on the judges score cards. Cleroux landed a hard uppercut in the 7th round the decided things rather abruptly however for the KO! Kirk Johnson vs Patsy Cardiff - Another excellent action bout as the Canadians know how to mix it up! Johnson scored a knockdown early to take a slight lead then built it up when Cardiff was finally stopped in the 9th on a cut sending Johnson to round 3 on a TKO win! George Old Chocolate Godfrey vs Joe Lannon - Godfrey was building up a lead despite the willingness of Lannon to trade with him. There were some monster rounds that had the crowd on their feet throughout. Godfrey scored a knockdown in the 5th, but Lannon scored one in the 12 to finish it....KO! Godfrey lead 5-4, 7-2, 6-4 when he was KO'd. Jack Renault vs Duncan McDonald - McDonald fought a great fight, building up a solid lead through the 14th on 2 of the 3 cards. Unfortunately he was cut on the eyelid of his left eye to hand Renault a come from behind TKO in the 15th! Donovan Ruddock vs John J Dwyer - This was an absolute war with Ruddock going down in the 10th round but somehow surviving! Dwyer landed more punches, was more accurate, but Ruddock did better in more rounds overall to win 8-6, 7-7, 8-6! The 9th round was one for the ages with Dwyer taking the edge 23-20! Sandy Ferguson vs Arthur Pelkey - Ferguson came in a 3-2 favorite against Pelkey, but left a thoroughly whooped man. Pelkey scored 5 knockdowns enroute to a 14-1, 14-1, 13-2 decision! Larry Gains vs Earl Walls - Excellent battle with both men down, but when push came to shove, Larry Gains was the better man in this one as fan favorite Earl Walls dropped out of the tourney by the score of 8-6, 9-5 8-6. |

Canada - HW Division Round 3
ROUND 3:
George Chuvalo vs Joe Lannon - The Chuvalo express rolls on despite a bad cut over the left eye in the 3rd as Chuvalo scores 5 knockdowns, the 5th one for the count of 10 in the 12th to send him to the Semi-Finals! Robert Cleroux vs Arthur Pelkey - Cleroux came in the 4-1 favorite but was flat throughout as Pelkey was the one that dominated to win the Unanimous Decision 8-7, 11-4, 10-5. The improbable run of Pelkey continues! Kirk Johnson vs Larry Gains - Another shocker of a result as Johnson was favored 2-1 but fell apart. Gains simply was the dominant force in this one, scoring a knockdown and winning by the decision of 12-3, 11-4, 10-4. Jack Renault vs Donovan Ruddock - Renault opened a flowing cut over Ruddocks eye in the first 30 seconds of the fight and then the 2 men went to war! Renault took the first 3 rounds but Ruddock came storming back finally pounding on Renault so badly that the ref stopped things in the 7th for the come from behind TKO win for Ruddock! Pwill was screaming his approval from the front row! |

Canada - HW Division Semi-Finals & Finals
Heavyweight Semi-Finals:
George Chuvalo vs Arthur Pelkey - Pelkey and Chuvalo put on a slugfest in this one with Pelkey going down 2 times, the final time in the 13th for the KO! However Chuvalo was yet again cut and his face looked like hamburger as Pelkey had built up a solid lead prior to the KO, leading 7-5, 7-4, 7-5. Chuvalo was impressed with the toughness of Pelkey saying "He's the second toughest S.O.B. in Canada next to me!" Donovan Ruddock vs Larry Gains - Pwill's dream of a Ruddock-Chuvalo final came to a crashing halt when Larry Gains cut up Ruddock so badly that the fight was stopped in the 12th for the TKO! Ruddock had a gusher outside the right eyebrow that just wouldn't stay closed, along with a cut under the left eye and swelling on the right eye. Gains suffered a cut over the right eye due to an accidental butt along with marked swelling on the same eye as both men looked as if they'd been through a meat grinder! The judges had the fight 7-4 on all 3 cards for Gains at the end of the fight. George Chuvalo vs Larry Gains - Chuvalo was relentless throughout working the body with thunderous hooks until Gains lost his legs then going all out in the 8th, scoring a pair of knockdowns then another in the 9th before the referee finally ended it to save Gains from serious harm. George Chuvalo draped the Canadian flag over his shoulders with pride as it was announced that he's the Canadian entrant into the World Tourney! |

An easy one for me as there's only one Cruiserweight entrant from Canada:
Dale Brown will go to the Tourney for Canada. |

Canada LHW Division
We have 6 Light Heavyweights. Tommy Burns & Sam Langford will recieve 1st round byes.
Round 1: Charley Belanger vs Yvon Durelle - Belanger was simply dominating against the overmatched Durelle, scoring 5 knockdowns enroute to a 10-5, 9-5, 10-5 unanimous decision. Don LaLonde vs Willie Featherstone - One of the best action bouts of the World Tournament qualifying rounds yet as Featherstone and LaLonde gave the crowd a hell of a show! LaLonde went down once and Featherstone 2 times as both men gave as good as they took. LaLonde finally took control in the 11th with his 2nd knockdown and then pounded Featherstone from pillar to post until the referee stepped in to halt the bout for the TKO! Round 2: Sam Langford vs Charley Belanger - This was a tactical bout that was a lot closer than anyone expected as Belanger was suprising in his technical skills against the great Sam Langford. The judges scored the fight 5-8, 8-6, 9-5 for Langford who was lucky to win the split decision! Tommy Burns vs Don LaLonde - Burns simply outclassed the game LaLonde throughout leading 11-1 on my card when the fight was stopped due to LaLonde's right eye being shut due to swelling in the 15th. The judges had it 10-1 9-3 10-2 for Burns when the fight was stopped. Final: Sam Langford vs Tommy Burns - A great fight between two great fighters! They went back and forth with many close rounds but Langford was a bit quicker and a bit stronger in earning the 8-6, 8-6, 7-7 Majority Decision. Both men showed great sportsmanship throughout and at the end embracing one another with respect! Langford is the Light Heavyweight entrant for Canada and one of the favorites to win it all! |

Canada SMW Division
4 entrants for the Super Middleweight berth.
Round 1: Jean Pascal vs Joe Gatti - Pascal was a 3-1 favorite and barely pulled out the 8-7 (x3) decision as Gatti proved to be a warrior in this one. Pascal scored 3 knockdowns and survived a Gatti knockdown to barely pull it out! Eric Lucas vs Syd Vanderpool - Lucas was the 3-2 favorite coming in but Vanderpool proved the stronger in this one, scoring 3 knockdowns in the 8th round. He then piled it on before begging the ref to stop it. He did shortly thereafter as Vanderpool moves to fight Pascal for the World Tournament berth. Final: Jean Pascal vs Syd Vanderpool - Pascal was the faster and stronger fighter, scoring 3 knockdowns enroute to a 10-4, 9-4, 9-4 unanimous decision to secure his berth on the Canadian Team. |

Canada - MW Division
There are 14 Middleweights in this tourney so the top 2 seeds, Lou Brouillard & Frank Battaglia will recieve a bye.
Round 1: George LaBlanche vs Kenny Shea - LaBlanche came out fast and never let up, battering Shea for the first 4 rounds then scoring a pair of knockdowns, the 2nd for the count to move to round 2 with ease. Wilfie Greaves vs Eddie Steele - Steele, the boxer shocked Greaves with a knockdown and fought way over his head in this action packed bout but Greaves won the split decision 10-5, 10-5, 6-9. I had it 8-5 for Greaves with a pair of pick-em rounds. Michael Olajide vs Alex Hilton - Olajide scored 2 knockdowns and hurt Hilton several times throughout this drubbing but showed a definite lack of killer instinct in his 14-0, 14-0, 12-1 decision. Sebastien Demers vs Stephane Ouellet - This was an excellent bout that went back and forth. Demers scored a knockdown in the 4th and looked to be pulling ahead when Oullet stormed back with several big rounds in a row! In the 13th with the fight a split decision through the 12th, Oullet dominated with 3 knockdowns then was battering Demers all over the ring when the ref finally showed mercy for the now hapless and defenseless Demers! Blair Richardson vs George Ross - Another great action fight that went back and forth throughout. Richardson was patient however and eventually wore Ross out. He then stormed out in the 11th round with 3 knockdowns then continued to beat on Ross until his corner threw in the towel to save their man! Billy Weeks vs Roy Wouters - Close and slow is the best term for this one. Both men had flashes of brilliance, trading knockdowns but in the end Wouters cost himself a victory by commiting his 5th foul and losing a point in the 14th round of this 7-6 (Weeks) 7-7, 7-7 Majority Draw. Rematch next. Rematch: Billy Weeks vs Roy Wouters - Better action in this one as Weeks was building up a bit of a lead with Wouters fighting back well when Weeks snapped a strong jab that opened a deep cut on the right eyelid of Wouters ending the festivities at 1:20 in the 11th round for the TKO. Round 2: Lou Brouillard vs Stephane Ouellet - Brouillard didn't impress in his opening bout against Ouellet though he did dominate. He committed 5 fouls and allowed Ouellet to remain in the fight til the latter rounds before finishing strong to win 9-4, 8-4, 9-3. Frank Battaglia vs Blair Richardson - Battaglia was dominating, scoring a knockdown in the 4th when out of nowhere Richardson landed a wild right hook from nowhere that floored Battaglia! He lurched to his feet at 9 but then went down for the 10 count!! Major upset here folks! George LaBlanche vs Billy Weeks - LaBlanche dominated throughout scoring a pair of knockdowns though Weeks showed a lot of heart, not only in surviving the knockdowns, but fighting back hard after each of them! In the end Weeks was simply outclassed however, losing the decision 12-2, 10-4, 11-3. Wilfie Greaves vs Michael Olajide - The first 8 rounds were back and forth with, but then Greaves ran out of gas and Olajide cruised through the final 7 rounds to win the decision handily 11-4, 11-4, 10-5. Semi-Finals: Lou Brouillard vs Blair Richardson - Richardson forced the action, which made for an exciting fight as both men had solid moments throughout! Brouillard's counterpunching made the difference however as he was able to land solid shots, scoring a knockdown in the 9th, then landing several bombs in the 10th, including a crushing uppercut that caught Richardson leaning in. After that Richardson went reeling across the ring, sagging into the ropes where the referee promptly halted the bout for the TKO in the 10th! George LaBlanche vs Michael Olajide - LaBlanche looked as if he'd taken a beating, barely surviving an 8 count knockdown in the 3rd and having major swelling around his right eye. Olajide however looked like he'd been through a stroll in the park. LaBlanche was better overall though winning more rounds though when Olajide won rounds they were the most action packed ones of the fight! I had it 8-4 for LaBlanche while the judges scored it 11-4, 11-4, 9-6 for LaBlanche! Final: Lou Brouillard vs George LeBlanche - Brouillard started out fast, taking the first 2 rounds handily and opening a nasty cut on the right eyebrow. His corner valiantly closed it to start the 3rd, but Brouillard used his rapier like jab to reopen it worse than it was forcing the bout to be halted for the 3 TKO! It seems that Brouillard is the kind of fighter that fights to the level of his competition. The better his opponent, the better he fights from the tourney results here. If that proves to hold true, he should go far into the World Tourney!

Canada - JMW Division
We have 8 Jr. Middleweights so there will be no byes.
Round 1: Joachim Alcine vs Manny Sobral - This was a close bout with decent action to start, but Alcine broke it open with a pair of knockdowns in the 6th with the final one being the KO at 3:00. If Sobral had gotten up after the bell rang Alcine would have won the round by an amazing score of 46-0!! Matthew Hilton vs Tony Badea - Hilton dominated a game but overmatched Badea for the first 10 rounds, wearing him down then scoring a knockdown early in the 11th. He then hammered Hilton with everything but the kitchen sink until the referee stopped the carnage for an 11th round TKO! Fathi Missaoui vs Alain Bonnamie - Bonnamie survived an 8 count in the 11th round of a very close fight to take control from the 12th through the 14th, then survived a desperate attack from Missaoui in the 15th to take the decision 8-7, 9-6, 10-4. Tokunbo Olajide vs Fitz Vanderpool - Olajide powered his way through Vanderpool, scoring 3 knockdowns in a suprisingly close 8-7, 8-6, 9-6 decision. Semi-Finals: Joachim Alcine vs Alain Bonnamie - Bonnamie survives a 7 count knockdown in the 7th round to cut Alcine up both under and over the left eye to end things in the 11th for the TKO on cuts. Matthew Hilton vs Tokunbo Olajide - Olajide overcame 2 close call knockdowns to score a shocking come from behind TKO in the 11th! He knocked Hilton down early in the round then pummeled him for the next 2 minutes without Hilton answering back before the referee finally ended things. Final: Tokunbo Olajide vs Alain Bonnamie - Bonnamie came in a 3-2 underdog but used the entire ring and superior hand speed to outlast the tough Tokunbo Olajide 9-4, 9-6, 9-5 to win the berth in the World Tourney for Canada. |

Canada - WW Division
We have 17 fighters so there will be a 1 bout fight-in to set the field at 16.
Fight-in: Jim Austin vs Peter Schmidt - Schmidt dominated Austin in every way, scoring a pair of knockdowns to earn an 11-2, 11-2, 11-2 decision and a spot in the 16 man tourney. Round 1: Jimmy McLarnin vs Peter Schmidt - McLarnin battered Schmidt all around the ring for 2 rounds before the referee had seen enough for the 2 TKO. The only suprise was Schmidt staying on his feet! Sammy Luftspring vs Eddie Connolly - Luftspring came in a huge favorite but was in my opinion totally outboxed by Connolly. Connolly landed over 32% of his punches while Luftspring landed less than 20% yet the judges scored it 8-7, 7-8, 7-7 for the draw. Connolly was robbed and Luftspring has a second lease with the forthcoming rematch. Clyde Gray vs Gaby Ferland - Gray lands a hook followed by a flurry of punches that floor Ferland who's unable to get up for the 45 second KO! Johnny Greco vs Ian MacKillop - MacKillop suffered a cut in the 3rd due to an accidental clash of heads that simply wouldn't stay closed. The ever widening cut halted the bout in the 7th round to send the fight to the judges for the Technical Decision. They saw it 5-1, 5-1, 4-1 for the dominant Johnny Greco! Shawn O'Sullivan vs Maxie Berger - Berger was the underdog in this one but he pulled out the improbable win with superior defense. Personally I had O'Sullivan winning 6-5, but the judges saw it 7-7, 8-7, 8-6 for Berger. Donnie Poole vs Donovan Boucher - Boucher scored the lone knockdown in this very tough fight to score. Unfortunately for Boucher he was bleeding profusely from a cut over the left eye that reopened several times throughout the fight. In the 14th the cut opened up so badly that you could see the bone of the brow so the fight was halted to hand Poole the TKO win! The judges had it 8-4, 4-8, 6-6 at the time of the stop. Mysterious Billy Smith vs Joey Durelle - Smith was dominant in this one scoring a knockdown in the 5th and building a big lead when he scored the KO in the 10th for the win! Dave Hilton Sr vs Hercules Kyvelos - Kyvelos hit as hard as Hercules in this one, scoring a pair of knockdowns in the 10th round, one for 8 and one for 9. After the 2nd one the referee decided that Hilton Sr had taken enough damage and wisely halted the bout. Rematch: Sammy Luftspring vs Eddie Connolly - Luftspring again fought poorly against Connolly falling behind 6-3, 6-3, 7-2 before a nasty cut over the right eye of Connolly broke open for the 3rd time to end the bout. The lucky Luftspring moves on. Connolly was again a huge underdog but deserved better yet again. Round 2: Jimmy McLarnin vs Maxie Berger - Berger was an off the board underdog and was outmatched, but he fought his heart out surviving a pair of knockdowns early to come back and win a tough 7th round that many observers were touting as the round of the year! Unfortunately McLarnin was too strong for him in the end, scoring a 3rd and final knockdown that he simply couldn't get up from in the 11th round for the KO! Sammy Luftspring vs Hercules Kyvelos - Luftspring came to fight in this one landing nearly half of his punches against the game Kyvelos to win the UD 9-6, 9-5, 10-3. Clyde Gray vs Johnny Greco - Gray scores a pair of knockdowns in a competitive fight against Greco. Greco went down the final time for the count of 10 in the 12th! Donnie Poole vs Mysterious Billy Smith - Poole scored a flash knockdown in the 2nd round of this tight battle with Smith. It was unfortunate that Poole was cut and the fight ended in the 11th for the TKO as it was knotted at 5-5 on all 3 cards through 10! Semi-Finals: Jimmy McLarnin vs Mysterious Billy Smith - Smith fought the near perfect fight against McLarnin despite being knocked down in the 3rd he came on strong and took the latter part of the fight to earn a suprising draw by the score of 7-7, 8-5, 5-9. I had it 6-6 with 3 too close to call rounds. Rematch to come. Sammy Luftspring vs Clyde Gray - Gray came in willing to mix it up and was competitive in the first 3 rounds. Luftspring landed a wicked hook that sent Gray into the ropes in the 5th then landed 25 straight punches before the referee ended the bout for the 4 TKO! Rematch: Jimmy McLarnin vs Mysterious Billy Smith - Smith survived a cut on the forehead a swollen eye and a pair of knockdowns to force the decision, but came up a tad short 9-6, 8-7, 8-7 to send McLarnin into the finals. Smith's awkard style made McLarnin earn his way however! Final: Jimmy McLarnin vs Sammy Luftspring - McLarnin scored a pair of knockdowns but had to push hard in the final 5 rounds to take the decision by the score of 9-5, 10-4, 9-6 to head into the World Tourney. McLarnin's expected to be a factor! |

Only 2 Jr Welterweights:
Arturo Gatti vs Herman Ngoudjo - Gatti and Ngoudjo went to war in this one! Gatti scored the lone knockdown in the 5th and built up a solid lead and held on as Ngoudjo stormed back. Gatti's left eye was nearly shut with the swelling that developed as the fight went on, which was a factor in Ngoudjo's dramatic comeback. I had the fight 7-7 a draw as Ngoudjo lost a point in the 5th for a low blow. With the amount of close rounds there's little wonder that the judges scored it 6-9, 7-6, 9-5 for Arturo Gatti! Gatti will represent Canada in the World Tourney! |

Canada - LW Division
There are 18 fighters in the Lightweight Division. We'll have 2 fight-in bouts to set the field at 16.
Fight-in: Sam Bittle vs Andy Ward - Ward survived a knockdown in the 2nd round to win by KO in the 10th in what had been a close affair to that point. Teddy Chandler vs Paul Patillo - Chandler boxed a clever fight, winning handily 10-4, 11-3, 9-5 despite losing a point on a questionable low blow. Round 1: Arthur King vs Teddy Chandler - King had little trouble in this one, outlanding Chandler more than 4 punches for every 1. It was a cut that mercifully ended the drubbing in the 8th round for the TKO. Dave Castilloux vs Andy Ward - Ward went down twice but gamely pulled himself up despite a broken jaw. Castilloux was too fast, strong, and clever too boot for the game Ward however as the fight was ended by TKO in the 12th. Al Ford vs Jimmy Hurst - Ford looked sharp in this one sided affair, scoring a knockdown and landing more than 5 punches to every one that Hurst scored. The judges scored the bout 14-1, 14-, 13-2 for Ford. Armand Savoie vs Jim Popp - Savoie seemed determined to allow Popp to make a fight of it, but Popp simply didn't have the skills. Finally Savoie turned up the heat in the 11th and 12th before the referee stopped the carnage for the TKO for Savoie. Richie Howard vs George Fulljames - Fulljames was a buzzsaw out there, albeit an ineffective one as Howard picks his spots and picks Fulljames apart for 15 full rounds of action. The judges rightfully scored the bout 12-1, 10-3, 10-2 for Howard. Billy Irwin vs New York Jack O'Brien - Non stop action for 15 rounds between these 2 sluggers. O'Brien was down once but was scrappy throughout against the stronger Irwin. I had it 8-5 Irwin at the end of 15. The judges scored it 8-7, 9-6, 10-5 for Irwin, though O'Brien can be proud of his efforts. Howard Grant vs Harry Gilmore - Great action bout between Grant and Gilmore that saw Gilmore down 2 times and Grant down 3! In the end it was the suprising Gilmore that ended up with the dominating decision 10-5, 11-3, 12-3. Tony Pep vs Danny Webb - Webb used superior ring presence and a rapier jab to cut Pep several times enroute to a 12-3, 12-3, 12-3 decision. Round 2: Arthur King vs Harry Gilmore - This fight could have been controversial as the scoring of one judge was rather odd (5-0, 2-3, 5-0 for King (I had it 4-0 through the 5th). King made sure there was no controversy however with a thunderous right that laid Gilmore out like a Christmas Goose! The count to 10 was anti-climatic as he was out for 5 minutes! Dave Castilloux vs Danny Webb - Castilloux was amazing with his accuracy (69.1%) and awesome with his defense (only allowed 11.7% of Webb's punches to land) as he boxed the perfect fight despite Webb's showing a lot of heart. Webb got up from 2 knockdowns and fought a few brilliant rounds, but the judges were spot on with a 12-3, 10-4, 10-4 verdict for Castilloux. Al Ford vs Billy Irwin - Ford seemed uninterested in this bout at times but still had the skills to make the hard working Irwin look foolish at times. In the end Ford was ahead 10-1 on my card, with the judges scoring it 8-7, 10-3, 14-1 for Ford. Armand Savoie vs Richie Howard - Howard survived an early knockdown to force the decision, but there was no doubt that Savoie was the better man in this one as he wins 10-5, 10-4, 10-4. Semi-Finals: Arthur King vs Armand Savoie - Excellent fight between these 2 as they went back and forth throughout with many close rounds. I had Savoie ahead 7-6 which with a pair of even rounds show it's anyone's fight. The referee's scored it 6-8 Savoie, 7-7 even, 9-5 King for the Draw! Rematch on the way. Dave Castilloux vs Al Ford - Ford built up a solid lead then survived a knockdown in the 10th and a furious rally by Castilloux to force the decision. I had it 8-7 Castilloux when all was said and done. The judges scored it 11-4 Castilloux, 7-8 Ford, 8-7 Castilloux! Castilloux moves on with the split decision win and awaits the winner of the King-Savoie rematch. Semi-Final Rematch: Arthur King vs Armand Savoie - Another hard fought bout between these 2 as they brawled throughout. Savoie was getting the better of it when a cut stopped things in the 7th. King's left eye looked like a bloody mass of raw hamburger when the referee decided that enough was enough, sending Savoie through with a 7 TKO. Final: Dave Castilloux vs Armand Savoie - This was a very close bout with moments of boredom and moments of savage fury as they went back and forth throughout. Each man scored a knockdown, and were nearly even in punches landed at the end of 15. I had Savoie ahead 7-6 when all was said and done. The judges scored it 7-6 Savoie, 7-6, Castilloux and 8-4 for the winner, and Canadian entrant in the World Tourney, Armand Savoie! |

Canada - FW Division
We have 12 fighters vying for the Featherweight berth. The top 4 seeds will recieve a bye. They are George Dixon, Al Foreman, Leo Roy, and Art Hafey.
Round 1: Jackie Callura vs Dave Fitzgerald - Despite a bad cut on the outside of his left eyebrow, Callura has little trouble handling Fitzgerald in this one, winning the decision 14-1, 12-3, 14-1. Pete DeGrasse vs Ted Timmoney - DeGrasse did everything he could to make this a boring fight by staying away from Timmoney throughout. It paid off however as his superior boxing skills allowed him to make Timmoney miss, and miss often winning 10-4, 8-5, 8-5.
