Markus,
Is it possible to actually put together a OOTP1-OOTP9 (less the actual branded "Season Ticket" versions) collector's bundle or make the older version available for download for a limited time? |

I've bought every version. Started with BB Mogul but OOTP was so much better.

With as many people that started playing with STB, you'd think Markus would do everything within his power to get another in-store version on shelves. I know it's expensive, but how many of us around here wouldn't be here if not for STB?

I know I would have never found it had it not been on the store shelf. It was the only one there also. How lucky was that.

Looking at the screenshots, the games come a long way since Markus was in college.
I started with v4, non-CD version and have bought all of them since.

I started up with OOTP2 which I believe was the last time the MLB was used, and was on a CD..I was known as JP Falcon back then but many pc changes, and lost passwords, have lost me the use of that s/n...I have bought all incarnations since 2 but I must admit that I still play 6.5 moreso than the last two versions. I have preordered and await the release....

Well, the realities are that PC game sales these days is flat (due to a variety of reasons including piracy).
Text-based management sims don't have a good track record at retail- even when coupled with a license (see EA's attempt with Front Office Football). With EA and Take2 holding licenses on the major sports it makes it difficult to get something on the shelves that wouldn't trigger some legal action from either company (or league, player's association for that matter). It is a small niche within the sports gaming world. Unless someone can get a 100K+ commitment from Wal-Mart, industry people aren't going to put the time and money into it. Selling 30K of something on PC isn't worth it anymore for publishers. Plus, there is all the control publishers weild over small developers- not a good thing. Markus is better off looking to put OOTP on Direct2Drive or Steam than deal with a publisher again. While seeing it on shelves at your local Soft-U-Mart would be cool- it's not how things are moving on the PC side. Plus I would hate to see Markus compromise the product due to some publisher's pressure. The best thing would be for Markus to have complete control over OOTP and continue to develop the best sports management game on the planet. Last edited by TigersFan23; 06-12-2008 at 10:42 PM. |

Cool to find originals still around. I stumbled onto OOTP4 just after release. I think it was that fantasy baseball just was not satisfying enough, and having my own game was quite exciting. I had not playing any games since Tony LaRussa which I had quit a few years earlier. The career thing was what really pulled me in.
I am curious as how some of those from the first couple versions found the game, especially if they were not attached to the programming community. |

I started with ootp 2. I got into it when it was in development so I waited to buy the new version and didnt pick up version 1. It is still the best game I have ever played and gets better with every version

Believe it or not. I found it on a hackers website. I don't really hack or use illegal stuff but the thought of baseball sim made me try it. After I tried it I bought it and have even since.
Been the best money ever spent on Video games. |

I was an original member of a league that uses OOTP2. It's still in operation today.
