Again due to the lack of real fighters this was only a 4 fight card

Jr Bantamweight News March 86

In May #1 Contender Armando Castro (24-0-2-9) and #2 Edgar Moonserrat (23-0-1-10) will meet for the vacant WBA Jr Bantamweight Championship. On the same card #3 Alberto Castro (25-0-1-16) will face #4 Thanomsk Sithbaobay (23-0-0-5) will meet for the vacant WBC Title.

Jr Bantamweight Fights March 86

Jose Quirinio (1-0-0-0) vs Pancho Herrera (0-3-1-0)

Quiroz looks good in his second outting, 4th round was best of the fight as both men stand and trade evenly. To the scorecards. 39-38 Herrera(mind blowing) and 39-37 twice for Quiroz who outlanded Herrera 84-50

#26 Rafael Pineda (14-2-0-8) vs Robinson Quiroz (12-7-0-3)

Both fighters enter the ring in excellant shapee for this 8 rounder. Pedroza a 5-1 favorite coming into this bout looks to continue his 9 fight unbeaten streak. Quiroz comes out in the first and is able to land solid lefts and rights and easily takes the first. Both men come out in the second determined to fight and fight they do, both men stand and trade and it is pretty even until Pineda lands a crushing combo right at the bell..Both men move to the outside in the third and this proves to be a pretty dull round that Pineda edges with the jab. The fourth starts slowly as well until Pineda lands a wicked cross and Quiroz is dropped for a 4 count. Pineda is pressuring Quiroz and lands some major shots but is not able to hurt Quiroz again in the round. Quiroz bounces back in the fifth and sixth as he wins both rounds by a wide margin, he is able to tattoo Pineda with crosses and uppercuts. In the seventh it is Quiroz again who takes control of the round with brutal combos and Pineda just looks spent. In the eighth and final round both men are looking to end this fight. Both men stand and trade and land some heavy blows but neither man is able to rattle the other. To the scorecards 77-74 twice and 76-75 all for the winner by unanimous decision Rafael Pineda. I don't disagree with Pineda winning but more inline with the last judge as Quiroz outlanded Pineda 240-179.

#20 Jose Ruiz (15-1-2-3) vs #17 Ellyas Pical (17-1-0-9)

Both fighters are in excellant shape for this 10 rounder. Ruiz is a 3-1 favorite coming into this bout. Pretty uneventful first that Ruiz controls with the jab from long range. Both men have there moments in the second in some heated exchange, to close a round to call. Both men move to the outside in the third and Ruiz has a huge round as he is able to land some crisp combos and counters. Pical tries to get inside in the fourth and is just dominated by Ruiz, who received a warning for a low blow. Both men mix it up in the fifth and Pical gets the better of it as he to receives a warning for a low blow. The sixth is just like the fifth as Pical is doing just enough to outwork Ruiz. Ruiz bounces back in the seventh and is again able to control Pical from the outside. In the eighth both men are a little slower and seem to be wasting the round slight edge to Pical who is able to get inside and land some decent shots. Ruiz wins the ninth with great footwork and his jab. In the tenth Ruiz is content to shut it down and cover up and Pical work and it pays off as he wins the round easily. To the Scorecards 96-93 Pical, 97-92 Ruiz and 95-94 for the winner by split decision Ellyas Pical, Surprised by the wide disparity in scoring but Can't complain about the decision.

#2 Willie Jensen (21-0-1-2) vs #5 Edgar Moonserrat (22-0-1-9)

Both men enter the ring in top shape for this 10 rounder. Jensen is a 5-1 favorite as the bout begins. Moonserrat wastes no time jumping on Jensen in the first and a vicious hook shakes Jensen badly. Jensen is able to hang on and survive the round. Jensen comes out in the second and is able to catch Moonserrat but Moonserrat fires back and just seems to strong for Jensen. Jensen uses his jab nicely in the third and is able to stay away from Moonserrat's power shots and wins the round. Moonserrat has a strong fourth as he is just hammering Jensen with everything he trows, he can't seem to miss. Jensen and Moonserrat mix it up in the fifith as both men have their moments with both landing clean shots. Jensen wins the sixth as he uses his jab and is even able to cut Moonserrat over the left eye. Jensen has a huge round in the seventh as he is dominating Moonserrat who inexplicablyu has a point ded for a low blow. Both men come out strong in the eighth and a vicious Moonserrat hook drops Jensen who is unable to get to his feet in time a brutal one punch kayo by Moonserrat :58 into the eighth. Huge win for Moonserrat Jensen drops in the rankings but not out of the top 10

Jr Bantamweight Rankings March 86

Alberto Castro 25-0-1-16

Bantamweight News March 86

In May #1 Roberto Rubaldino 27-0-0-25 will meet #2 Johnny Carter 25-0-0-10for the vacant WBA Championship.

Bantamweight Bouts March 86

Lionel Rose (1-0-0-0) vs Zachary Bates (0-3-0-0)

Rose looks impressive as he uses masterful boxing to win an easy unanimous decision scores 40-36 twice and 39-37. Rose moves to 2-0-0-0

Stix Macloud (6-2-0-1) vs Afalku Akua (1-2-0-0)

Macloud looks to avenge a loss to Akua in his second pro fight. Macload starts incredibly and is landing some awesome shots including two low blows that draw warnings. The next two rounds are evenly fought with a slight edge to Akua. In the fourth a clash of heads causes a huge gash over the eye of Macloud and the doctor stops the fight leading to a tech draw. Macloud is lucky because I feel Akua was getting the better of him and probably would have won the decision.

#53 Paddy Maguire (17-2-0-13) vs #48 Bernardo Mendoza (13-3-1-7)

The prime slugging Mendoza and the pre-prime slugging Maguuire are in great shape for this 8 rounder. Maguire looks to rebound after his 10 round unaimous decision loss to Orlando Canizales, while Mendoza himself looks to rebound from a 10 round unanimous decision loss to Ernie Cataluna. Both men mix it up in the first with Mendoza getting the better of it and at the end of the first John Ian Lewis deducts a point from Mendoza for a low blow without any warnings. Maguire has a huge second round as he pastes Mendoza with crisp combos. Nice action round in the third that Maguire edges with his power shots. Both men move inside in the fourth and this styleis perfect for Maguire as he is landing some crushing blows,Mendoza just can't get going. Mendoza has his best round but still not enough to win the round. Mendoza looks spent as the fifth closes. Even sixth as bith men have their moments, Maguire himself looks tired as the round closes. Mendoza is having another good round even opens a cut above Maguire's right eye when he ducks into a Maguire uppercut and is dropped for a 9 count. Mendoza rises and is able to stay away from Maguire the remainder of the seventh. What a closing round. Maguire drops Mendoza early with a ripping shot to the body, Mendoza rises at eight and is being hammered when he lands a huge right that forces Maguire to cover up and be on ribber legs as the bell sounds. To the scorecards. 79-71 across the board for Paddy Maguire. Nice rebound victory for Maguire.

#31 Gaby Canizales (15-1-0-15) vs #41 Abdelkader Esmain (14-2-5-2)

The pre-prime slugging Canziales and the prime boxer Esmain are in great shape for this 8 rounder. Canizales is a 7-2 favorite coming into the bout. Canizales is looking to continue his unbeaten streak going as he is uundefeated in his last 15 after being stopped in one in his pro debut. Esmain easily wins the first as he is counter Gaby with somehuge shots. Slower round then the first that Canizales wins as he is the busier man. Great third as both men are scoring great shots, Esmain wins the beginning of the round but Canizales is scoring big as the round closes. Canizales moves inside in the fourth and has his best round of the fight landing with murderous combos. Anotherspirited round inthe fifthas both men take turns winging shots. Slight edge to Canizales who draws a warning from Jay Nady for a low blow. Both men stand and trade again in the sixth with no clear advantage to either fighter though Esmain is looking worse for wear as the round closes. Both men are slugging again in the seventh when a Canizales hook opens a nasty gash above Esmain's right eye, the doc examines it and the round continues and Canizales proceeds to pummell Esmain who is barely standing as the round concludes. Esmain wins the eighth with an awesome combo that stopped Canizales inhis tracks. To The Scorecards. 78-76, 79-75 and 79-76 for the winner Gaby Canizales whohas seen the final bell for the first time in his career.

#11 Khaokor Galaxy (19-0-0-17) vs #12 Bernardo Pinango (17-0-0-12)

The pre-prime boxer Pinango and the pre-prime slugging Galaxy arein great shape forthis 10 rounder. Galaxy is a 2-1 favorite entering this bout. Both men are the best either fighter has faced. Pinango wins the first as he stays away from the powerful Galaxy and counters effectivelyand clinches when Galaxy gets close. Galaxy gets inside on Pinango in the second and with :50 left a Galaxy cross drops Pinango for a three count. Pinango stays away to survive the second. What a third Pinango is boxing beautifully using his jab until late in the round hen Galaxy lands some huge shots. Galaxy has a huge fourth he is teeing off on Ppinangoand surprisingly Ppinango withstands the barrage. Wouldn't be surprised if that gets some 10-8 scores. Galaxy picks up where he left off in the fourth and is just pummelling Pinango referee Clemente Montero has seen enough and waves the fight off at 1:03 of the fifth. Pinango showed heart but took a terrible beating.

#7 Franco Zurlo (20-0-0-4) vs #8 Paul Ferreri (21-0-1-3)

EBU Bantamweight Championship

Both of these prime boxers are in top form for this 12 rounder. Zurlo is a 5-2 favorite coming into this bout. Zurlo wins the first with active jabs and combos. Ferreri lands some shots but was just out worked. Even second round as both men land some nice blows slight edge to Ferreri. Zurlo uses his jab masterfully in the third and wins the round. Ferreri draws a warning for a low blow. Hell of a fourth as boith men take turns controlling the round. Ferreri wins the beginning Zurlo the middle and Ferreri closes the round again. Ferreri draws another warning for a blatant low blow. Big round for Zurlo as he is landing every punch he throws. Both fighters sustain a cut Zurlo over the right eye Ferreri over the left.Slow sixth that Zurlo wins as he just does enought to outwork Ferreri. Zurlo is able to reopen the cut but nothing comes of it. Ferreri wins the seventh as Zurlo seems to have taken a round off, Ferreri's cut has been reopepned again. Ferreri wins another as he is able to rock Zurlo. Early in the round the blood flow causes the ref to have the doc examine the cut. Zurlo wins another as it is him who is now outworking Zurlo. Zurlo comes out strong in the tenth as he may sense he's letting it slip away and is able to rock Ferreri and win the round big. Zurlo wins the eleventh as Ferreri seems to be spent and just can'tmatch Zurlo's stamina. Pretty uneventful twelth as both men are tired and have little energy. To the scorecards. 115-114 across the board for the winner by unanimous decision and new EBU Bantamweight Champion Franco Zurlo.

Jr Featherweight News March 86

In May #1 Fabrice Benichou(21-0-0-12) will meet #2 Jaime Garza (22-0-0-20) for the vacant WBA Championship on the same card #3 Jeff Fenech (17-0-0-15) will meet #4 Victor Callajes(18-0-0-17) for the vacant WBC Title.

Jr Featherweight Bouts March 86

Jai-Won Choi (0-1-0-0) vs Kazuhiro Hayashi (0-2-0-0)

Nice rebound win for Choi who lost his pro debut back in January. Choi started quickly dropping Hayashi 1:00 into the first but couldn't finish him off. Choi then lost the next two rounds but a wicked hook in the fourth put Hayashi to sleep at 2:34 of the fourth.

#46 Snappy Asano (6-4-1-0) vs Mitsuoki Yamamoto (1-5-0-0)

The young Asano looks to rebound from a 10 round unanimous decision loss to Nick Apong back in January takes on young TC Yamamoto to get back into the win column. Things don't start well for Asano as Yamamoto easily wins the first two rounds with a great jab and ring movement. Not much to choose from in the third as both men clinch most of the round. Nice action round in the fourth as both men are mixing it up when an Asano hook opens a gash over Yamamoto''s left eye. The doc examines it and calls a halt to the bout. Seemed like a quick stoppage to me. Asano lucked out I really feel Yamamoto was gonna pull off the upset. May have these two do it again in a few months.

#36 Soon-Hyun Chung (17-2-1-7) vs #28 Bobby Berna (10-1-0-3)

The prime boxing Chung and the pre-prime slugging Berna are in great shape for this 8 rounder. Chung is a 7-1 favorite coming into this bout. Pretty even opening round as both men land some clean shots but Berna's seem to be the heavier blows. Nice second round by Berna as he lands some brutal shots but Chung stands upto them nicely. What a third round as defense went out the window and both men traded bombs. Chung was definately the more effective fighter. This ones heating up. What a fourth Berna moves inside and it pays off as a hook to the body drops Chung for a 7 count. Chung rises and Berna puts on the pressure but it is Chung who starts teeing off on Berna. Berna looks tired as the fifth round gets underway. What a fight toe to toe action from bell to bell in the fifth, When Berna seems to be getting the better of it Chung would respond and punish Berna slight edge to Chung. Both men look tired as the sixth round starts and it is Chung who controls the round with impressive counter punching. Incredible not even 1:00 into the seventh a Chung hook deposits Berna on the seat of his pants for a 3 count he rises takes an awesome beating but as the round comes to a close it is Berna who is landing bombs. To the final round we go. Berna easily wins the eighth as Berna just outworks Chung. Both men embrace as the final bell sounds. To the scorecards, 76-74 Chung, 77-74 Berna and 75-75 a draw. I can live with that. These two will do it again in a few months this time in a 10 rounder.

#21 Leo Randolph (12-0-0-1) vs #20 Dong-Kyun Yum (13-0-0-4)

In this bout we have the pre-prime boxer verses the pre-prime slugger. Both men are in great shape for this 8 rounder. This is the first tough test for either man. Randolph is a slight 2-1 favorite. This is Yum's first fight outside of his native Korea and he shows no sign of nerves as he just tattoos Randolph early and often but Randolph storms back and may have won the round. The second starts good for Yum who is countering effectively and about 2:00 in Yum lands a devestating hook to the body and Randolph drops to the canvas and is unable to beat the count. Very impressive showing for Yum who is sure to rise in the rankings after this victory.

#23 Samart Payakaroon (11-0-0-7) vs # 25 Daniel Zaragoza (18-2-0-6)

The pre-prime boxing Payakaroon and the pre-prime slugging Zaragoza are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Payakaroon is a 2-1 favorite coming into this bout. Payakaroon wastes no time jumping on Zaragoza and 1:30 left in the round a perfect uppercut drops Zaragoza for an 8 count, he rises but a thudding combo drops him again this time for a nine count. He struggles to his feet as the bell sounds ending the first. Slow second round as Zaragoza seems reluctant to throw any punches. Payakaroon wins the round with some nice combos. Another slow round in the third, not much to choose from scored it even. Zaragoza moves inside in the fourth and is finally able to touch Payakaroon but Payakaroon still wins the round with great counters while making Zaragoza miss. Payakaroon uses the ring nicely in the fifth and continues his shutout as he is just pot shotting Zaragoza. The sixth round is pretty uneventful as both men are content to do little fighting. In the seventh Payakaroon continues to box from the outside and Zaragoza is showing frustration as he is unable to land anything cleanly. Zaragoza comes out looking to change things in the eighth and actually wins the round as he lands some haymakers but Payakaroon is not phased by Zaragoza's punching power. Payakaroon has a huge ninth as he is just lighting Zaragoza up. Payakaroon could have gotten on his bicycle to close out the fight but instead chose to fight and again just punishes Zaragoza. The scores are a fore gone conclusion. 98-92 twice and 97-93 all for Samart Payakaroon. Impressive victory for Payakaroon who outlanded Zaragoza 210-129 but amazingly Zaragoza threw 1106 punches. WOW

#2 Fabriice Benichou (20-0-0-11) vs #7 Juan Estrada (19-0-0-11)

Both of these pre-prime sluggers are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Benichou is a 2-1 favorite coming into this bout. this is both fighters first action of 1986. Nice start by Estrada as he lands some heavy shots including some nice body work. Tough second round to score as Benichou is fighting from the outside and rocks Estrada badly, but midway thru the round Estrada gets his legs under him and is able to outland Benichou. Close third as both men exchange some great shots. Huge fourth round for Benichou as he is pummelling Estrada and hurts him badly again at the bell. Benichou picks up were he left off tattooing Estrada with rights and lefts and a wicked hook drops Estrada for an 8 count. Instead of covering up Estrada stands and trades and another hook drops Estrada for the 10 count. Impressive win for Benichou who is definately in title contention

Featherweight Bouts March 86
Fight Card I
Night of Debuts

Carlso Rocha (0-0-0-0) vs Joe Howell (0-4-0-0)

Solid debut for Rocha nothing spectacular, very workman like performance. Scores 40-36, 39-37 and 39-38 all for Rocha

Ferdinand Caracena (0-0-0-0) vs Kimitada Sato (0-6-0-0)

Very competative fight that I scored even but the judges gave the nod to Caracena by scores of 39-37 twice and 38-38

Pete Gonzalez (0-0-0-0) vs Matt Atkinson (0-5-0-0)

After a slow first round Gonzalez lets it go and easily wins the next three rounds in my eyes. Very active over the four rounds. Scores 39-37 twice and 38-38.

Jackie Gunguluza (0-0-0-0) vs Aytarel Ajayi (0-2-0-0)

Very lack luster fight that goes Gunguluza's way. Scores 40-38 across the board.

Tom Johnson (0-0-0-0) vs Eric Couretney (0-4-0-0)

Hmm. Interesting fight here. Johnson was easily beaten the first two rounds and looks like he is gonna be upset by Courteney and in the third Johnson lands some clean blows never hurts Courney but the ref stops it at 2:55. I think the fix was in.

Claudio Martinet (0-0-0-0) vs Angel Flores (0-5-0-0)

Very nice debut for Martinet. Easily wins the first three rounds and my only complaint he shut it down in the fourth. Scores 39-37 across the board.

Fight Card II

Seiji Asakawa (0-0-0-0) vs Naganori Takuda (0-6-1-0)

Impressive debut for Asakawa. He starts strongly easily winning the first, then drops Takuda for an 8 count in the second. Both men just slug away in the third and Asakawa finally finishes Takuda in the fourth with punishing rights and lefts before the ref jumps in and stops it.

Shozo Saijo (0-0-0-0) vs Ryoma Nakagawa (0-6-1-0)

Saijo easily wins the first three rounds and in the fourth is dropped by a Nakagawa right hook. He showed great recupperative powers and if not for the knockdown would have won the last round. The scores 38-37 Saijo, 38-37 Nakagawa and 38-37 for the winner by split decision Shozo Saijo.

Rosalio Muro (7-9-4-5) vs Haidar Nourredine (8-7-2-3)

Both fighters looking to get their careers back on track face eachother in the six rounder. Pretty Competative fight both men have their moments but Nourredine's stamina seems to make the difference as he earns the unanimous decision victory by scores of 59-57 and 58-57 twice.

#55 Eusabio Pedroza (15-1-0-10) vs #49 Rafael Ortega (14-2-0-4)

Both of these pre-prime sluggers are in excellant shape for this 8 rounder. Pedroza is a huge favorite coming into this bout. Big opening round for Pedroza who is landing bombs, Ortega seems to be loding upto the punches well. Both fighters draw a warning from Carlos Padilla. Pedroza for leaning on the neck Ortega for a low blow. Great second round both men are just hammering away slight edge to Ortega who draws another warning from Padilla. Even third round as the pace has slowed a little. Both fighters move inside in the fourth and it benefits Pedroza who seems to be the quicker of the two and easily wins the round. Big fifth for Ortega as he is finally able to land some solid shots on Pedroza. A Pedroza hook opens a cut on the mouth of Ortega. Huge sixth round for Pedroza as he is able to drop Ortega twice. The first with a solid combo for an 8 count and the second an uppercut frops Ortega for another 8 count. Ortega bounces back nicely in the seventh and outworks Pedroza who draws another warning for a blatant low blow. Pedroza closes the fight strongly as another solid combo drops Ortega for a 7 count. Pedroza tries to end it and Ortega gets on his bicycle to survive the round. To the scorecards. 78-72 twice and 78-71 all for Eusabio Pedroza. Big win for Pedroza. Ortega had his moments but just not on the same level as Pedroza.

#22 Troy Dorsey (22-2-0-13) vs #24 Barry McGuigan (15-1-0-14)

The prime slugging Dorsey and the pre-prime slugging McGuigan are in great shape for this 10 rounder. McGuigan is a slight 2-1 favorite. This fight is capable of being fight of the year candidate. Each fighter is the best fighter either has faced. McGuigan has a huge first round and is landing incredible body punches. Dorsey fires back but not as active as McGuigan. A McGuigan hook opens a nasty cut over the right eye of Dorsey just before the bell. Dorsey's corner is gonna have their hands full with that cut. Dorsey bounces back in the second and is pasting McGuigan with rights and lefts. McGuigan looks a little slower in the second. Another big round for Dorsey as he continues to out work McGuigan. The fight is turning ugly as both men draw repeated warnings from Frank Cappuccino Dorsey for excessive holding and McGuigan for an intentional head butt. McGuigan has a fouth round that could actually be scored 10-8 but loses a point for continued fouls. Dorsey's cut is opened and is gonna continue to be a problem. Dorsey wins the fifth again just outworking McGuigan. The cut is opened again this time the dr examines it and allows the fight to continue. As the round closes McGuigan's right eye is showing swelling. What a sixth round both men just stand and trade and exchange brutal shots. Dorsey's corner has done a good job on the cut as it remained closed during the sixth. Great round for McGuigan who is landing some great shots. Both men look tired as the round comes to a close. Dorsey has a huge eighth round as he is targeting the right eye of McGuigan which is almost closed. What a ninth round both men just stand and trade looking to end this fight. A McGuigan hook reopens the cut over Dorsey's right eye. The doc examines it and were gonna continue. Dorsey closes the ninth strongly. To the tenth and final round. Dorsey wins the tenth as McGuigan just isn't busy enough but it is Dorsey who is penalized a point for leaning on McGuigan's neck. This may make a huge difference in the scoring as I feel this fight is pretty close. to the scorecards. 95-92 McGuigan and 94-94 twice. That point deduction really hurt Dorsey, Inexplicably two judges scored the 10th round for McGuigan making it a 10-8 round for McGuigan giving him the fight. These two will definately do it again. Dorsey outlanded McGuigan 312-226.

#6 Daniel Vermandere (21-0-0-2) vs #8 Billy Hardy (18-0-0-3)
EBU Featherweight Championship

The prime boxing Vermandere and pre-prime boxing Hardy are in great shape for this 12 rounder. Vermandere is a 3-1 favorite coming into this bout. Pretty even fought first round. Hardy used pressure effectively while Vermandere stayed away as best he could. Hardy keeps the prssure up but Vermandere counters nicely and wins the round. Vermandere takes the offensive in the third and is landing some beautiful combos. Hardy just seems to slow and cannot land anything on Vermandere. Just as I say Hardy can't get to Vermandere he actually has a good fourth as he is able to land some nice shots. Vermandere used the jab from the outside but didn't do enough. Pretty uneventful round that Vermandere wins with his jab. Very even sixth round as bith men land some shots but nothing of special. Vermandere wins the seventh with beautiful use of the ring and his jab. Hardy wins the eighth as he just outworks Vermandere. Hardy edges another round with a huge bomb. Vermandere needs to step it up as he seems to be letting Hardy back into the fight. Vermandere starts the tenth round nicely with some nice combos but again it is Hardy closing the round strongly and I feel wins his third round in a row. Vermandere wins the eleventh as Hardy seems to be slowing down and Vermandere takes advantage and does just enought to win the round. Vermandere wins the twelth and probably the fight. Not an exciting bout would have expected more by two top 10 guys but what are you gonna do. to the score cards. 115-113 twice and 116-113 for the winner and new EBU Featherweight Championship Daniel Vermandere. Good win for Vermandere who will definately be in the world title chase.

Jr Lightweight News

In May #1 Ben Villaflor (28-0-0-21) will take on #2 Julio Cesar Chavez (27-0-0-27) for the vacant WBA Championship. Villaflor earns the shot with his 6th round stoppage of Rocky Lockridge (21-1-0-19) back in February while Chavez stopped Samuel Serrano (19-1-1-2) in one also in February. There are also talks of Azumah Nelson (21-0-0-20) facing Alexis Arguello (21-0-0-20) for the vacant WBC Title.

Jr Lightweight Bouts March 86

Domenico Chilorio (0-0-1-0) vs Carl Noble (0-5-0-0)

Chilorio looks for his first pro victory as he fought a 4 round draw in his debut back in January. Chilorio looks impressive as he wins in my book 40-36 but the judges see it a little different. Two judges score the bout 39-37 Chilorio while Glen Trowbridge scores it 39-37 Noble. Trowbridge needs investigated there is no way Noble won 3 rounds. Chilorio outlanded Noble 127-34

Alfredo Layne (7-2-0-5) vs Mario Martinez (8-0-0-2)

Both fighters taking a step up in competition in this bout. Martinez a 6-1 favorite looks to maintain his unbeaten record while Layne looks to win his second fight in a row since being stopped by a TC last year. Slow first round as both men seem to be feeling eachother out but 2:00 in that goes out the window and Martinez begins to tee off on Layne. Big round for Martinez. Another big round for Martinez as he continues to paste Layne with jabs, hooks and uppercuts. Layne's right eye is swelling as the round comes to a close. Pretty close third. Layne has his best round but still not sure it's enough to win the round. Another close round in the fourth, neither man has a real advantage. Martinez does look the fresher of the two as the round comes to a close. Martinez dominates the fifth with a great jab. Swelling is becoming more noticeable but not really a factor. Reaaly uneventful sixth to the scorecards. 60-56 and 59-57 twice all for Martinez. Nice win for Martinez who is progressing nicely.

#44 Greg Coverson (19-1-1-0) vs #37 Isaiah Ikhoni (15-3-2-14)

We have the prime boxing Coverson vs the prime slugging Ikhoni. Both men are in great shape for this 8 rounder. Coverson is a slight 2-1 favorite coming into the bout. Ikhoni looks to continue a 14 bout winning streak while Coverson looks to continue a 12 bout winning streak he started after dropping an 8 round unanimous decision to TC Bryce Wade back in Jan of 84. Close first round that Ikhoni edges as his shots are so much heavier. Great second round as Coverson makes Ikhoni miss and pay for it with blistering counters. Ikhoni lands some shots but definately Coverson's round. Another action pack round won by Coverson. Coverson who is lacking in KO victories is standing and trading and landing some big shots and actually outslugging the slugger another good round for Coverson. Big fourth for Ikhoni who gets inside and does great body work and lands some damaging uppercuts. Pretty close fifth as both men do very little fighting, slightest of edges to Ikhoni. Huge sixth for Coverson as he stays on the outside and lands some clean counters and lead rights. Coverson lands a brutal uppercut as the round comes to a close. Both fighters are spent as the round concludes. Ikhoni wins the seventh as he again is able to get inside and land some beautiful uppercuts. This has gotta be close on the scorecards. To the final round we go. Think Coverson may have made a mistake thinking he had the fight in the bag and covered up for the final round while Ikhoni continued to work. I feel Ikhoni did enough to win this one. To the scorecards. Wow I must have watched a different fight all three judges score in favor of Coverson 78-74, 77-75 and 77-76. Both fighters land exactly 168 punches, while Ikhoni threw about 600 more punches. Off to get new glasses before the next bout.

#31 Daniel Londas (15-0-2-1) vs #30 Hikaru Tomonari (15-0-0-13)

Both fighters fighting for the first time in 86 and both taking a step up in competition. The pre-prime boxer Londas and the pre-prime slugging Tomonari are in great shape for this 8 rounder. Londas is a 6-2 favorite coming into the bout. Pretty action filled first round as the light hitting Londas stayed flat footed and landed some bombs. Tomonari definately the harder puncher of the two seemed alot slower. First round to Londas. Londas' speed continues to be a factor as he counters everything Tomonari throws and wins the second. Great third as Tomonari is able to get to Londas this round but Londas continues to just enough to outwork and outland Tomonari. Tomonari has yet to land a huge punch. Londas embarrasses Tomonari in the fourth as he is unable to land a single punch. Londas is boxing beautifully tonight. Tomonari actually wins a round and it takes a cut to get him going. A Londas jab opens a cut above Tomonari's right eye and after that he landed some great shots. Tomonari wins another round with huge shots that Londas is holding upto nicely. Both men look fatigued as the round comes to a close. Tomonari wins another round as he seems the fresher of the two and is able to get inside and land some big haymakers. Londas to his credit shows he can take a punch. Tomonari looks to end the fight here in the eighth but Londas is on his bicycle and just peppering Tomonari with excellent counters. To the scorecards. 77-75 across the board for Londas. Nice win for Londas who outlanded Tomonari 258-141.

#29 Rolando Navarrete (14-0-0-10) vs #25 Sammy Goss (16-0-0-0)

The pre-prime slugging Navarrete and the pre-prime boxing Goss are in great shape for this 10 round bout. This fights even money at the betting window. Pretty close first round that Navarrete edges with a huge combo at the bell. Goss wins the second as he boxes beautifully using the jab and tying up Navarrete on the inside. Navarrete wins the third as every punch he lands is a bomb, he did some nice body work also and it shows as Goss is breathing heavily as he returns to his corner at the end of the round. Wow :21 into the fourth a Navarette hook drops Goss for the ten count. Nothing like a one punch knockout to close the show. Impressive victory for Navarrete who will make some noise on this scene soon.

#6 Saleman Itti-Aanuchit (22-0-0-13) vs #7 Johnny Sato (25-0-0-7)
APBC Jr Lightweight Championship

The pre-prime slugging Itti-Aanuchit and the pre-prime boxing Sato are in great shape for this 12 rounder. Sato is a 3-1 favorite coming into this bout. Both fighters look to remain unbeaten and make a world title charge. Decent opening round that Sato wins with great work on the inside. Itti-Aanuchit lands some heavy blows at the bell. Itti-Aanuchit wins the second as he moves outside and uses the jab perfectly and counters Sato. The pace slows in the third and this benefits Sato who otlands Itti-Aanuchit who has slowed here in the third. Talk about see-saw battle. Itti-Aanuchit wins the fourth as he moves inside and lands some powershots most noticeably a straight right, right down the middle. Itti-Aanuchit continues on the inside in the fifth while Sato moves to the outside and has much success and he is countering Itti-Aanuchit nicely. What a sixth round, Itti-Anuchit moves to the inside again and is again able to land some shots and this also forces Sato to trade. Sato lands some great shots himself and may have won the round but looks horrible as the round closes as he has swelling around both eyes and suffered a cut above the right eye. Sato may have edged another action packed round, both men trade heavy shots and an Itti-Aanuchit hook reopens the cut above the right eye. Sato puts another round in the bag as he is the fresher of the two and is just outworking Itt-Aanuchit. Again the right eye is bleeding but we have yet to see the doc examine the wound. Swelling continues to increase around the eyes of Sato. Itti-Aanuchit looks to turn up the pressure in the ninth but again it is Sato who is landing the crisper punches and winning the round. A slow tenth round that Sato edges again as Itti-Aanuchit's stamina seems to have been an issue as he has slowed over the last four rounds. Sato wins the eleventh as Itti-Aanuchit doesn't land a punch. Itti-Aanuchit is gonna regret not being able to take advantage of Sato's disadvantages. Sato blanks Itti-Aanuchit again in the last round. The scores are a foregone conclusion 117-111 and 118-110 twice for the winner and new APBC Jr Lightweight Champion Johnny Sato. Sato showed heart tonight fighting the last half of the fight blinded and bleeding and winning the last half of the fight hands down.

Lightweight Bouts March 86

Chango Carmona (0-0-0-0) vs Augusto Marin (0-4-0-0)

Impressive debut for Carmona who controlled the whole fight even dropping Marin in the first. Scores 40-35 twice and 38-37.

Renato Cornett (0-0-0-0) vs Lenny Cotterell (0-4-0-0)

Impressive showing by Cornette boxed beautifully no real power display. Scores 40-36 and 39-37 twice.

Boerge Krogh (0-0-0-0) vs Harvey Lovenbury (0-5-1-0)

Kroght started good in the first but an accidental headbutt in the second got him off his game and is lucky to get away with a draw as I thought Lovernbury pulled out the victory. Scores 39-39 and 38-38 twice.

#62 Arturo Frias (15-1-0-3) vs #49 Beau Jaymes (12-2-0-2)

Both fighters are in great shape for this 8 rounder. Jaymes looks to continue an 8 bout win streak including a 10 round unanimous decision victory over Tony Miller (9-2-2-2) back in January. Frias is a 5-2 favorite coming into this bout.

Pretty decent fight thru four. I had it scored evenly. Neither fighter is hurt or showing signs of injury. After six Frias is slightly ahead but has suffered a bad cut inside the mouth. Jaynes has a big seventh round and in my mind this fight is even going into the last round. Frias is the fresher of the two as the 8th round begins. Pretty slow eighth as both men appear tired. Frias pulls out the 8th with a sizzling combo at the bell. I feel Frias earned this decision by the slimist of margins. To the scorecards. 78-75 Frias, 77-77 and 77-76 Frias. Good hard fought victory for Frias. Frias outlanded Jaymes 188-156.

#30 Tony Pep (16-0-1-6) vs #36 Roberto Elizondo (18-1-0-15)

The prime boxing Pep and pre-prime slugging Elizondo are in top shape for this 10 rounder. This is the best opponent either man has faced. Neither man has fought this year. Punching edge to Elizondo as well as the betting odds 5-2 in Elizondo's favor.

After two Elizondo's pressure and power easily win the rounds. Pep is trying to box from the outside but is unable to stay away from Elizondo. Pep has a huge third as he uses Elizondo's aggressiveness against him and counters with crisp clean power shots. Elizondo bounces back nicely in the fourth and starts a mouse under the left eye of Pep. What a fifth round. Pep starts strongly and is tattooing Elizondo when an Elizondo hook staggers Pep. Pep is rattled badly but survives the round. Both fighters look gassed as the sixth round begins. What a round both men just paste eachother with bombs, Pep's left eye is starting to get ugly. Big seventh for Elizondo who is landing bombs but is unable to hurt Pep. An accidental headbutt starts swelling under the right eye of Elizondo. In a round Pep was winning the ref takes a point away for the first low blow warning. Elizondo I think has the fight under control. Elizondo wins an exciting ninth as both men stand and trade trying to end this fight. Nice tenth as both men are again trying to end this fight. Elizondo edges the tenth as he is the fresher of the two. Both men embrace as the bell sounds ending the fight. To the scorecards. 98-92, 98-91 and 99-92 all for Roberto Elizondo. Good victory thought the fight was closer then the scores indicated. Elizondo outlanded Pep 264-219.

#4 Jimmy Paul (22-0-0-17) vs #6 Ould Makloufi (18-0-0-8)

Both pre-prime boxers are in excellant shape for this 12 round title eliminator. Both fighters seeing their first action of 1986. Paul is a slight 2-1 favorite.

Pretty even first, Makloufi is warned for using his elbows. Makloufi edges the second with a great combo that rocks Paul. Paul finally gets going in the third and wins the round with crisp combos. Great fourth round as both men land some great shots slight edge to Paul. Great action round in the fifth as again both men are landing haymakers. again slight edge to Paul. Huge sixth round for Malkoufi as he is able to land rights and lefts and Paul is unable to get anything going. Paul seems tired as the seventh round gets underway but that doesn't stop him from out working Malkoufi and easily winning the seventh with some nice counters. Paul wins another round as it is now Malkoufi who seems to be losing his legs, both men are cranking the bombs again but neither man is hurt. Malkoufi wins the ninth as he is just unloading on Paul but cannot dent his chin. Paul wins the tenth as Malkoufi seems to take the round off and does minimal fighting. Very slow eleventh that Malkoufi wins as Paul did even less then Malkoufi. Both men touch gloves as the last round begins. Malkoufi wins the 12th as he lands some bombs and Paul was in survival mode staying on his bicycle and trying to stay away. To the scorecards. 115-113 Paul, 114-114 and 115-113 for Makloufi a draw. I can live with that decision Paul gave away to many of the later rounds. Malkoufi outlands Paul 277-259. Both men may miss out on the initial title fights but are definately real challengers.

Jr Welterweight News March 86

In May Hector Thompson(23-1-1-8) and Guillermo Mosquera(20-0-0-13) will meet for the vacant WBA title and on the same card Johnny Bumphus(19-0-0-18) will meet John Meekins(24-0-1-3) for the vacant WBC title

Jr Welterweight Bouts March 86

Joao Henrique (1-0-0-0) vs Fernando Cruz (0-4-1-0)

Henrique in his second bout since turning pro back in January takes on Fernando Cruz who proves tougher then expected thru two rounds, but a right hook ends all that at 1:12 of the third round. Impressive showing for Henrique.

Rafael Pineda (1-0-0-0) vs Jesus Ferreira (1-3-0-1)

Pineda also seeing action for the second time this year takes on TC Jesus Ferreira who owns a TKO victory over Hector Lopez. Wow!!!. Pineda comes out like a man on fire and lands a straight right that rocks Ferreira and follows it up with a left jab, right hook that puts Ferreira to sleep at 2:13 of the first round.

Aaron Pryor (9-0-0-9) vs James Reynolds (0-9-0-0)

This young prospect Aaron Pryor makes his debut on a featured fightcard and takes on limited challenger James Reynolds. This is to be Pryor's coming out party and a coming out party it was :20 into the first a Pryor hook drops Reynolds for a 7 count, he manages to get to his feet and survive nicely until a brutal uppercut dropped him again this time for the full 10 count. Pryor needs to step up and quit fighting the TC's

#86 Max Boy Toyogon (17-6-1-12) vs #69 Norman Sekgapane (17-3-2-1)

The prime slugging Toyogon and the prime boxing Sekgapane are in great shape for this 8 rounder. Toyogon looks to get his career back on track after being stopped in 2 of his last 3 fights. While Sekgapane looks to continue a two bout win streak since being stopped by TC Mugombe Kapkobi.
In a stunner the light hitting Sekgapane knocks Toyogon cold here in the first round. Sekgapane was plastering Toyogon with sharp combos and with 1:00 left in the round a hook dropped Toyogon for a nine count only to be dropped a few seconds later from a straight right hand for the full 10 count. Impressive win for Sekgapane. Max Boxy better call it a day.

#25 Irish Mickey Ward (11-0-0-9) vs #26 Monroe Brooks (10-0-0-10)

The pre-prime slugging Brooks looks to be in incredible shape while the pre-prime slugging Ward does not look to be in the best shape for this 10 rounder. Odds are 1-1 at fight time. Both men fighting for the first time this year.

Great first round as both men have their moments. Brooks wins the first part of the round while Ward storms back to close the round strongly, A Ward jab opens a cut above the right eye of Brooks just before the bell. Brooks completely dominates the second round as Ward doesn't seem to get off. What a third round as both men stand and trade and a Ward right hook may have pulled him even on the scorecards as Brooks dropped like he'd been shot. Brooks got to his feet at the count of nine and survived the last :47 of the round. The fourth round is incredible as both men go inside and stand and trade bombs with the edge going to Ward. Late in the round Brooks' cut is reopened and examined by the doc who allows the fight to continue.Brooks rebounds nicely in the fifth and clearly wins the round with his jab and sharp counters. It is now Ward who is bleeding from the right cheek as the fifth round closes. What a sixth again both men go inside and just stay there but it is Ward who has the advantage as he seems just a little fresher. Again Brooks' cut is reopened and again the doc lets the fight continue. I have Ward ahead by 1 point after the sixth. Hell of a seventh again both men just stand and trade as the have fought inside for the last 4 or 5 rounds. Slight edge to Brooks, this one is gonna go down to the wire if the cuts don't interfere. I jinxed it :44 seconds into the 8th a Ward hook opens the cut again and this time the doc stops the fight. Looking at the score cards Ward was up by 1,2 and 3 points. I thought the fight was vloser then that. Both men fought a great fight, cant complain to much about the stoppage.

#5 Jo Kimpuani (15-0-0-10) vs #6 Johnny Bumphus (18-0-0-17)

Both of these pre-prime sluggers are in great shape for this 10 rounder. This is the first action of 1986 for both fighters. Bumphus is a 3-1 favorite coming into this bout.

Bumphus has a great first round as he starts with a great jab, he then counters Kampuani repeatedly then ties him up when he gets close. Kimpuani is having a better second round until a Bumphus hook to the body drops Kampuani for a ten count. Great win for Bumphus who looks impressive in this second round KO of Jo Kampuani.

Jr Welterweight Rankings March 86

The first of two Welterweight cards

Welterweight Bouts March 86

Glenwood Brown (1-0-0-1) vs Richard Barge (0-6-0-0)

Brown in his second fight since turning pro back in January faces little threat in Richard Barge. Brown starts quickly and tags Barge with a strong hook. Barge then proceeds to hit Brown with his head. This wakes Brown up and a picture perfect combo drops Barge for a 10 count. 2 fights 2 first round stoppages for Brown.

Aaron Davis (1-0-0-0) vs Steve Carlson (1-4-1-0)

Davis also in action for the second time this year takes on TC Steve Carlson who has a victory of Milton McCrory under his belt. Carlson hangs tough in the first round but after that it was all Davis scoring knockdowns in the third and fourth rounds but unable to stop the tough Carlson.

Jorge Luis Maysonet (6-1-0-6) vs Julio Alvarado (0-4-0-0)

Maysonet seeing his first action in 1986. Maysonet looks to continue a five bout win streak since being stopped in one round by TC Danny Wilkins. Maysonet looks like a beast in this one. He starts very quickly hurting Alvarado and causing swelling under the right eye in the first. In the second Maysonet picks up where he left off and a wild overhand right drops Alvarado for a 9 count, he rises only to be pummelled along the ropes until referee Perez Huerta jumps in to stop the bout.

Mike Mungin (5-0-0-2) vs Terry Campbell (1-6-0-1)

Mungin makes his 1986 debut taking on Campbell a TC who should pose little problems for Mungin and that's just how it played out. For four rounds Mungin was just far superior to Campbell who was exhausted after four rounds and in the fifth a Mungin cross drops Campbell for a 10 count.

Fausto Rodriguez (8-0-0-7) vs Antonio Palma (1-9-0-0)

Rodriguez making his 1986 debut takes on TC Antonio Palma. This is to be a coming out fight for Rodriguez who looks to impress. And impress he does. After a slow first round Rodriguez comes out looking for the kill in the second and :37 into the round a right hook drops Palma who is swiftly counted out. So all the youngsters perform as expected.

#18 Bernie Terrell(EBU) (18-0-0-10) vs #6 Gert Bo Jacobsen (22-0-0-21)

EBU Welterweight Championship

January's fighter of the month and EBU Champion Bernie Terrell looks to defend his EBU title that he won in impressive fashion from Colin Jones back in January.Faces Denmark's Gert Bo Jacobsen who is seeing action for the first time in 1986. Both fighters are in excellent shape for this 12 rounder. The fight is going off at even odds.

In the first Jacobsen is having a good round until a perfectly timed counter drops Jacobsen for an 8 count. Terrell tries to jump on Jacobsen but Jacobsen survives the frame. Jacobsen recovers nicely to edge the second round with a great jab. What a third round as both men are just throwing bombs, early in the round a Jacobsen hook opens a cut above Terrell's left eye. Terrell rally's late but the round is won by Jacobsen who pulls even on my scorecard. Terrell has a big fourth again landing haymakers. Only problem for Terrell is the cut above the left eye is bleeding again and is probably gonna be a problem with 8 rounds to go. Jacobsen wins the fifth with crisp counters and again opens the cut above Terrell's eye this time the doc is called in to examine the cut and allows the fight to continue. Fights even on my card after five. Terrell wins the sixth as he just outworks Jacobsen who can't seem to get it going in the sixth. For the first time since the cut occured it remained closed for an entire round. Early in the seventh another Jacobsen hook opens the cut and now it is bleeding heavily. The doc examines it and the fight is over. Jacobsen lifts the EBU Championship from Terrell who is just disgusted by the stoppage. Terrell was up on all three score cards 58-56 and 57-56 twice at the time of the stoppage. I feel a rematch is definately in order look for these two to do it again.

Fight Card II

#93 Glen Collis (12-4-0-1) vs #85 Roland Commings (12-7-1-4)

Collis comes into the fight losing four in a row after starting his career 12-0 and looks to get back on track facing Commings who is coming off a 10 rd unanimous decision over TC Ralph Miller. Both men are in top shape for this 8 rounder. Betting odds are even for this one.

Pretty dull opening round as both men are feeling eachother out. Slight edge to Collis. Commings dominates the second round as he is just teeing off, hitting Collis with everything he is throwing. Nice action in the third as both men take turns landing shots with Collis getting the better of it and winning the last part of the round big. Even fourth round as the pace really slowed. Another close round as again both men stand and trade, if they had power this would be dangerous. slight edge to Collis in the fifth. The pace slows again in the sixth and there is no clear cut winner as neither man does very much. Collis has a huge seventh round and beats Commings pillar to post. Commings is now showing swelling under the left eye as the round comes to a close. Man does Commings close the show he has a huge final round as it is now Collis who is looking tired and taking a pounding. To the scorecards. 78-76 Commings and 77-77 twice a majority draw. I can live with that and the fight was pretty good, these two may do it again in a few months.

#58 Francisco Ferrer (14-3-0-0) vs # 48 Santos Cardona (24-3-0-11)

Both men seeing action for the first time this year. Cardona is riding a 13 bout win streak while Ferrer is riding a 5 bout win streak. Both men are in great shape for this 8 rounder. Cardona is a 6-1 favorite coming into the bout.

Cardona starts quickly hammering away on Ferrer and with :51 left in the first a hook drops Ferrer for a quick two count. He comes forward and another combo drops him for an eight count. He rises right as the bell sounds ending the first round. Slow second round tha Ferrer wins by staying outside and utilizing the jab. Cardona has a big third as he is hammering Ferrer who is holding upto the punches better then he did in the first round. Cardona wins another round as he is looking sharp and landing great combos. The only action in the fifth is a couple of fouls by Cardona who may have edged the round. Pretty close sixth round as again neither man is doing a whole bunch. Both men trade in the seventh and Cardona is clearly winning the exchanges. Ferrer is gonna need to do something big to pull this one out and considering he has no career kayos its gonna be tough to do. Ferrer is coming out looking for the kayo and it is Ferrer who gets hurt badly late in the round. Decision is a foregone conclussion scores 80-70 twice and 79-71 all for Santos Cardona.

#30 Pete Ranzany (23-1-1-18) vs #29 Jose Baret (17-0-0-14)

Both prime fighters are in great shape for this 10 rounder. This is the first action both men are seeing in 1986. Both fighters are the best either man has faced and the odds are even at the start of this bout.

Wow the heavy hitting Baret comes out looking to tag Ranzany and it is Ranzany who connects with a wild overhand right and scores the one punch KO. Baret tried to get up at seven but was unable to get it together. Very impressive showing by Ranzany.

#20 Mark Breland (19-0-0-16) vs #21 Marcus Starks (21-1-1-2)
NABF Welterweight Championship

Both prime fighters are in top shape for this 12 rounder. Both men are seeing action for the first time this year. Breland is a 9-2 favorite coming into the bout.

Both men start tentatively with no clear cut winner. Starks is warned for holding and hitting. Starks wins the second as he gets inside and does some great body work and lands a great uppercut at the bell. Great third round as both men are using the jab well and landing off the jab. Close third round slight edge to Breland. Breland wins the fourth with great combos. Starks had his moments but Breland wins the round. Breland wins the fifth as he is standing and throwing with power and landing his hardest punches of the fight. Starks holds upto them nicely. Starks looks to goto the body in the sixth and Breland shows him he can goto the body too and lands some incredible body shots. Edge to Breland in the sixth. Starks starts the seventh round nicely but midway thru the round fatigue looks to have set in and Breland storms back and wins the round. Starks comes out strong and lands his best punches of the fight and actually has Breland clinching but agin Starks wears down and Breland comes back to take the last half of the round. Breland has a big ninth round as he is just pot shotting Starks, who now has swelling visable under the right eye as the round comes to a close. Breland again is just pummeling Starks, who is showing tremendous heart and who should maybe call it a day before he gets hurt. To his credit he is holding upto Brelands power but for how long who knows. Starks corner really should throw in the towel. Breland again is just hammering Starks who to his credit is still coming forward and fighting. Late in the round a devestating hook drops Starks for a 5 count be is up and survives the round. The final round is a replay of the previous four. Starks comes forward and Breland just tattoo's him. The decision is really not in doubt. 118-109, 119-109 and 118-110 all for the winner and new NABF Welterweight Champion Mark Breland. Good win for Breland Starks is one tough SOB.

First of two fight Cards

Jr Middleweight Bouts March 86

Richard Acaylar (0-0-0-0) vs Francisco Mendez (1-5-1-0)

Very impressive debut by Acaylar as he dominates Mendez scoring a knockdown in the third and badly hurting Mendez in the fourth. Scores 40-35 across the board

Romolo Casamonica (0-0-0-0) vs Carlton Bennion (1-4-0-0)

Very disappointing debut for Casamonica. He is easily winning the fight thru three rounds when out of nowhere a single Bennion right hook drops Casamonica for a ten count. Big upset as Casamonica was a 3-1 favorite coming into the bout.

Gilbert Dele (0-0-0-0) vs Craig Sawyer (0-4-0-0)

Another disappointing debut as Dele walks away with a draw. He started great just dominating Sawyer thru two rounds then after that he was just outworked by the Englishman. Scores 38-38 across the board.

Hector Ramirez (0-0-0-0) vs Britt Horn (0-5-1-0)

Ramirez does ok considering the TC Horn was a 3-1 favorite. Ramirez looked good at times and walks away with a draw to show for it. Scores 38-38 across the board.

Fight Card II

Terry Norris (1-0-0-1) vs Chris Watson (1-6-0-0)

Norris seeing action for the second time in 86 takes on TC Watson who holds a victory over Floyd Weaver. Wow first punch Norris lands ends the bout as Watson is counted out at :39 of the first round.

#103 Doug Dewitt (9-4-0-0) vs Bob Harrington (1-8-0-0)

Dewitt looks to get his career on track at it has been disappointing so far as he has been DQ'd in two of his last three fights. He takes on TC Bob Harrington who holds a victory over Roger Leonard. Dewitt is a 5-1 favorite coming into the bout.

Thru two rounds Dewitt is easily outboxing Harrington but has managed to draw two warnings from the ref for holding and hitting. Not much to choose from in the third and fourth rounds. I split them on my scorecards so I have DeWitt up 3-1 in rounds. Another close round that could go either way the good news is DeWitt hasn't fouled since the second round. Harrington looks tired as the final round gets under way and DeWitt takes advantage landing some great shots but is unable to hurt the tiring Harrington. I feel DeWitt gets the nod. To the scorecards. 60-55, 58-57 and 59-56 all for Doug DeWitt. Decent showing nothing spectacular.

Carlos Santos (9-0-0-7) vs Terry Byrne (1-15--1-0)

Santos see's his first action of 1986 takes on TC Terry Byrne who inexplicably is a 5-2 favorite coming into this bout. Both men are in top shape for this 8 rounder.

Decent first as Santos presses the action and lands the harder shots. Byrne lands some jabs but nothing more. What an action packed second round both men are just teeing off and believe it or not Byrne gets the best of it. Byrne's held upto Santos' power thru two but could not make it out of the third. Santos came out and was just pummeling Byrnes who had swelling forming under the right eye when a Santos hook dropped him for a nine count. Byrnes gallantly got up but was in no shape to continue and ref Frank Cappuccino waved it off. Nice victory for Santos who should be stepping up in competition soon.

#68 Pat Thomas (16-1-1-5) vs # 62 Alvin Anderson (9-2-0-2)

Both pre-prime boxers are seeing action for the first time in 1986 and are in great shape for this 8 rounder. Anderson is a 7-2 favorite coming into this bout. Anderson looks to rebound from a TKO 7 loss to a TC in his last outting in 1985.

Close first round edged by Anderson as he boxed beautifully using the jab and right hand. Anderson wins the second as again he is the faster and sharper of the two. Thomas rallies back nicely at the end of the rounds trying to sway the judges. Tough round to score as Anderson started well landing great combos when a Thomas one, two put Anderson on queer street. Anderson managed to get his feet back under him and was back to throwing sharp combos at the end of the round. Another tough round to score as both men take turns landing some great shots. Anderson clearly wins the fifth as he just outworked Thomas. Both men look tired as the sicth round begins and it is Anderson who takes advantage and lands some great shots. Thomas tries to fight back but again is to tired to retaliate. Slow seventh as both men just clinched and missed. Thomas comes out looking for the kayo in the last round and actually has his best round of the fight landing some devastating shots and even opens a cut above Anderson's right eye. Scores are a foregon conclusion. 77-75, 78-74 and 79-74 all for Alvin Anderson. Good win, nothing spectacular but gets back in the win column.

#26 Gianfranco Rosi (13-0-0-8) vs # 21 Jose Luis Duran (19-1-0-5)

We have the pre-prime slugger in Rosi verses the pre-prime boxer in Duran. Both men are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Both men are seeing action for the first time in 1986 and Rosi is a 3-1 favorite coming into the bout.

Rosi has a huge opening round as he goes right at Duran and lands some big hooks and combos. Rosi wins the second as he is just the busier fighter, Duran just isn;t throwing punches. Wow horrible third round as 1 punch is landed. wake me when it's over. A better round but still nothing to write home about. Edge to Rosi. Thank god Rosi comes out and lands a lightening fast right hand that puts Duran to sleep at 1:49 of the fifth round. Great win for Rosi.

#1 Gerhard Piaskowy (27-0-0-14) vs #4 Rocky Mosley Jr (27-0-1-2)

WBA Title Eliminator

The prime slugging Piaskowy and the prime boxing Mosley are both in great shape for this 12 round title eliminator. This is the first action both men are seeing in 1986 and each man is the best fighter the other has faced. Piaskowy is a slight 2-1 favorite coming into this bout.

Mosley boxes beautifully and is using his jab and great right hand counters.to easily win the first round. Piaskowy was unable to land anything of significance on Mosley. Better round for Piaskowy who is able to get inside but Mosley answers with some great uppercuts. slight edge to Mosley. Mosley Jr wins the third again using a great jab and actually doing some good body work. A very close fourth round as Piaskowy starts strong but Mosley storms back to make the round really close. Another tough round to score do you like the pressure of Piaskowy or the boxing of Mosley. Piaskowy finally wins a clear cut round as he is able to get to Mosley and get to him often. Big round for Piaskowy. Piaskowy has nother huge round as a wicked right hurts Mosley bad at the end of the round and Mosley looks spent as the seventh round closes. Piaskowy wins the eigth as he is the busier fighter and lands some haymakers. Mosley is still fighting back but just appears to be running out of steam. A close ninth as Piaskowy continues to work the body and Mosley Jr lands some great counter right hands. Very slow tenth frame as both men are tired edge to Mosley for his work rate. Mosley edges the eleventh as he again is the busier of the two and continues to land with some great uppercuts. Good final round as both men come out fighting and it's Piaskowy who gains the advantage with rights and lefts. Mosley is firing back as the bell sounds to end the fight. To the Scorecards. 114-114, 115-113 Mosley Jr and 114-114 a majority draw. I can live with that decision. Piaskowy outlanded Mosley Jr 306-290 Both men fought a great fight. looks like they will do it again in May

Middleweight News March 86

#1 Contender Anthony Jones (29-0-0-25) will meet #2 Don Lee (30-0-0-30) in May for the vacant WBA Middleweight Championship, On the same card #3 Tony Sibson (26-0-0-19) will face #4 Bobby Watts (26-0-0-14) for the vacant WBC Middleweight Championship.

First of 2 fight Cards

Middleweight Bouts March 1986

Tom Bogs (0-0-0-0) vs Luke Greenhalgh (2-3-1-0)

Bogs makings his pro debut against TC Greenhalgh who has victories over Bunny Sterling, Jimmy Gillon and a draw with Sambu Kalambay. Bogs disappoints in his debut as he easily loses the first round then is dropped in the second round for a 4 count. He manages to win the last two rounds on my card but the knockdown costs him. Scores 39-37 and 38-37 twice.

Nessim Max Cohen (0-0-0-0) vs Kane Williams (0-3-0-0)

Cohen looks good in the first as he uses the jab and opens a cut above the left eye of Williams. Williams makes it close in the second and third. Cohen seemed to be losing the last round when he turned it up and closed the show strongly. Scores 40-37 Cohen, 38-38, and 40-37 for Cohen. Decent scrap.

Nate Collins (0-0-0-0) vs Whit Green (0-4-0-0)

Collins is making his debut and does not look like he's ready to fight. But ready to fight he is. He easily wins the first with a great jab and right hands. In the second Green is tattooing Collins until a Collins right hand knocks Green thru the ropes and he is counted out at 2:45 of the second round. Impressive one punch kayo. Imagine how Collins would have looked if he had trained properly.

Benkei Fujikura (0-0-0-0) vs Takuji Iijima (0-2-0-0)

Horrible decision in this one I thought the fight was even but two judges scored 39-37 for Iijima and Fujikura's debut is a real disappointment. Fujikura clearly won two rounds in this bout.

William Bo James (0-0-0-0) vs Keith Hunter (1-3-0-0)

James starts slowly in the first but from that point on James looks good even rocking Hunter badly in the third. Scores 39-37 twice and 38-38 for James.

Rudy Lovato (0-0-0-0) vs Jon Kuykendall (0-5-0-0)

Lovato looks good in his debut as he uses the rign nicely and easily outboxes Kuykendall. Scores 40-36 and 39-37 twice.

Fight Card II

Julio Cesar Vasquez (1-0-0-0) vs Angel Baez (0-2-0-0)

Vasquez makes his second appearance of 1986 taking on TC Baez who poses little threat to Vasquez. He poses little threat but did he come to fight. Vasquez dominates Baez but Baez shows one hell of a beard as he is lit up by Vasquez but is never hurt. Scores 40-36 twice and 39-37.

#68 Willie Warren (9-3-2-1) vs Hal Smith (0-5-0-0)

Warren is seeing his first action in 1986 and is looking to rebound from a TKO 7 loss to a TC in Dec of 85. Both fighters are in shape for this 6 rounder. Warren looks good in this match as he boxes nicely and uses the ring to his advantage. No cuts or knockdowns Scores 58-56 across the board.

#53 Mike Colbert (13-1-0-1) vs #48 Andre Cooper (14-2-0-8)

Colbert is seeing his first action in 1986 while Cooper is looking to rebound from a 5 round Kayo loss to Victor Claudio back in January. Colbert simply looks fat while Cooper looks to be in top shape for this 8 rounder.

First punch landed of the fight is a low blow by Colbert that draws a warning after that it's all Colbert as he uses a nice jab and lead rights. In the second Cooper draws a warning for backhanding. Outsied f that not much to choose from, neither fighter seemed to anxious to mix it up. Cooper lands a devestating hook early but that punch seems to wake Colbert up who startes pasting Cooper with lefts and rights. Cooper's left eye shows swelling as the round comes to a close. Close fourth that Cooper may have edged with a sizzling right hand. Cooper appears to be sucking wind as the fifth round gets under way and Colbert takes advantage landing jabs and vicious right hands. Cooper doesn't appear to have much left as sthe round comes to a close. The swelling becomes more pronounced as the round closes. Colbert wins another round as it is both men who appear gassed but it is Colbert who fights thru it to take the round. Colbert has a big seventh round as he is landing at will, landing lead rights and count3ering everything Cooper does. Cooper will need a kayo to win this one. Colbert closes the show winning the final round as Cooper could not land a punch. Colbert looked great considering he wasn't in shape. Wonder how he would have looked if trained properly. Scores 79-74, 77-75 and 78-74 all for Mike Colbert. Nice win for Colbert and the second loss of 86 for Cooper who needs to get his career back on track before he hits the rank of TC.

#41 Reggie Harris (19-1-1-2) vs #36 Dave Tiberi (15-0-0-3)

The prime boxing Harris and the pre-prime slugging Tiberi are in great shape for this 8 rounder. Both men are seeing action for the first time in 86. Harris is a 3-1 favorite coming into the bout. Both men are the best fighter either man has faced to date.

Typical feeling out round won by Tiberi who uses a nice jab and lands a wicked combo right before the bell. Harris looks alot better in the second as he is landing right crosses and incredible uppercuts. A closer round in the third edged by Harris who gets inside and is again utalizing the uppercut. Harris wins another round as he is continually landing these brutal uppercuts. Tiberi has no answer for them. Harris wins the fifth with sharp crosses and you guessed it uppercuts. Tiberi looks spent as the round comes to a close. Tiberi is also showing swelling under the left eye as the round concludes. Tiberi wins a round as he just outworks Harris in the sixth. Tiberi wins the seventh as it is Harris who is now looking tired. Tiberi lands a brutal straight right hand right down the pipe that hurts Harris as the round closes. Tiberi wins the eigth and final round as Harris is content to cover up as he thinks he has the fight in the bag and I agree. To the scorecards. 77-76 Harris and 76-76 twice. Harris is beside himself, maybe he should have fought the last round instead of shutting it down. Tiberi is ok with the draw he remains unbeaten. Harris outlanded Tiberi 232-165.

#26 Robbie Sims (13-0-0-6) vs # 22 Reggie Johnson (18-0-0-4)

The pre-prime boxing Sims and the pre-prime slugging Johnson are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Neither man has seen action in 86. This is a step up in competition for both men. Johnson is a 3-1 favorite coming into this bout.

What an opening round. Both men are digging hoosk to the body, Sims then unloads a brutal combo that rattles Johnson. Johnson fires back and even wins the round as he is landing wicked right hands. Very slow second round won by Johnson as he is just busier then Sims. Another dull third round that may have been edged by Sims whos draws a warning for a low blow. Sims wins the fourth with some great right hand counters. Sims wins another round as he continues to hammer away at Johnson who just cant seem to get it going since the first round. Johnson seems out of gas as the sixh round begins. Johnson gets inside and lands some great power shots but Sims battles back to make the round close. Sims wins the seventh as he is countering the charging Johnson, who cant seem to get to Sims. Both men look fatigued as the round closes. Johnson wins the eighth as he is able to get Sims along the ropes and land some great hooks. Johnson wins the ninth with a brutal straight right hand the wobbles Sims. Both men do alot of clinching. To the tenth and final round. Johnson wins the tenth as Sims does not land a punch. Scoring should be close. To the scorecards. 96-94, 95-95 and 96-94 for the winner by majority decision Robbie Sims. Sims pulls off the minor upset. Johnson just gave away to many early rounds.

#3 Semi Bula (23-0-0-8) vs #6 Tony Sibson (25-0-0-18)

The prime boxing Bula and the prime slugging Sibson are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Sibson is a 7-2 favorite coming into this bout. This is the first action for either man in 1986.

Great opening round as both men are just trading, Edge to Sibson in the first as he does some great bodywork. What a second round as agian both men just stand and trade. Sibson again is getting the better of it as Bulas is swelling under the right eye as the round closes. Bula wins the third in another action packed round. Bula is just landing bombs on the chin of Sibson. I have to admit I don't know who Bula is but so far he's earned my respect and i'm sure Sibson's. Sibson with a huge fourth round as he is winning the round easily when Mickey Vann takes a point from Bula for leading with the head. A point deduction for the first warning is a but much. Bula's right eye is looking ugly as the round closes. Great finish here in the fifth. Sibson comes out and lands a brutal hook that drops Bula for a six count as he rises you see blood pouring from a cut over the right eye. Sibson takes his time and a well placed uppercut drops Bula for the second time and this time he is counted out. Great fight this Bula kid is one tough cookie. Impressive showing for Sibson who amazingly gets out of the fight unscathed as there was cut concerns. Sibson i'm sure will move up a notch or two in the rankings.

Super Middleweight Bouts March 86

Steve Collins (1-0-0-0) vs Bernard Whitmore (0-5-0-0)

Collins is back in action after winning his pro debut back in January. Collins wins easily as Whitmore was never in the fight. Scores 40-37 across the board

#39 Ron Jeffs (4-8-1-2) vs #37 Marvin Mack (6-7-0-3)

Both of these pre-prime sluggers are in great shape for this 6 rounder. Both men looking to get their careers back on track. Mack looking to rebound from a 6 round split decision loss to Steve Little back in January, while Jeffs is seeing his first action of 1986.

Mack comes out like a man possesed and hurts Jeffs badly and at 1:45 a Mack hook drops Jeffs for a 3 count. Jeffs rises and survives the round. Great second round both men have multiple exchanges with Mack edging all of them. As the round closes Jeff's right eye is puffing up. Very slow third round not much to choose from.Mack easily wins the fourth round, he is landing great jabs when a straight right hand puts Jeffs on queer st. Mack wins another by just outworking the game Jeffs. Jeffs will need a kayo to win this one. Great final round, both men just letting it all hang out and as usual Mack just gets the better of it. Jeffs right eye is almost closed as the round comes to an end. To the scorecards. 60-54 twice and 59-55 all for Mack. good little scrap. Both men will probably not be world beaters but at least they were entertaining.

#21 Frederick Seillier (16-2-0-6) vs #12 Jeff McCracken (10-0-2-0)

The prime boxing Seilliers and the pre-prime boxing McCracken are bot in great shape for this 8 rounder. Both men are seeing action for the first time in 1986. Seillier is a 6-1 favorite entering the bout.

Seillier easily wins the first as both men trade in a great exchange but then a Seillier right stuns McCracken badly. McCracken goes into a defensive shell and makes it thru the first. Seillier takes the second as he is just teeing off on McCracken landing wicked rights and lefts. McCracken's right eye is showing swelling as the round concludes. Seillier continues to dominate McCracken here in the third, when referee Jen-Kin unbelievably takes a point form Seillier for a low blow after the first warning. McCracken lands is best punches of the fight in the fourth but is still unable to win the round as Seillier is just boxing beautifully landing crisp jabs and combos. McCracken's right eye is getting ugly. Again McCracken is competative but cannot match Seilliers speed and accuracy. Seillier comes out flatfooted in the sixth and a beautiful one,two combo drops McCracken for a six count. McCracken gets on his bicycle and survives the final :26. Seillier continues to pitch the shutout. Seillier is landing great combos. Seillier easily wins the eighth as McCracken just can't seem to get it going. Seillier almost decapitates McCracken at the bell with a brutal uppercut. Scores are a foregone conclusion. 79-71 twice and 77-73 all for Seillier. Impressive showing for Seillier he completely controlled this one and showed some glimpses of power.

#10 Tarmo Uusivirta (13-0-1-3) vs #9 Victor Cordoba (11-0-0-6)

The pre-prime boxing Uusivirta and the pre-prime slugging Cordoba are in great shape for this 8 rounder. Both men are seeing action for the first time in 86. The fight is going off at even odds.

Cordoba wins the first with aggression and some great body work. Uusivirta scores well in the one exchange he engaged in but nothing else. Uusivirta comes out more agrresive but is just outworked by Cordoba who is still going to the body. Uusivirta wins the third as he is finally able to get his combos going. Cordoba regains control with some great combos and counters. Uusivirta is having a huge round when Perez Pineda jumps in and takes a point from Uusivirta for a low blow after his first warning. Cordoba wins the sixth as he is the fresher of the two, Uusivirta looks spent as the round comes to a close. Cordoba wins the seventh as he is just blasting Uusivirta along the ropes, to Uusivirta's credit he is absorbing the power of Cordoba nicely. Pretty spirited final round as both men let it go and Uusivirta does well but Cordoba's hooks and uppercuts win it for him. To the scorecards. 79-74 all for Victor Cordoba. Good win for Cordoba.

#7 Ron Essett (20-0-1-11) vs #6 Murray Sutherland (18-0-0-8)

The prime boxer Essett and the prime slugging Sutherland are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Both men are seeing action for the first time in 86, and both fighters are the best fighter either man has faced. Odds are even for this one.

Pretty even first Sutherland working the body nicely while Essett is using the jab to keep Sutherland at bay. Essett draws a warning for kidney punching. Good round for Sutherland who lands a wicked uppercut at the bell. Essett draws another warning for rabbit punching. Another close round in the third both men take turns nailing the other. Sutherland with hooks and uppercuts and Essett lands some nice combos. Sutherland wins the fourth with some big power shots. Sutherland counters effectively. Essett wins the fifth as he lands his best shots of the fight, clean powerful hooks that rock Sutherland. Sutherland bounces back in the sixth and Essett is hurt by a sizzling right hook. Sutherland tries to tuen it on but Essett survives the round. Sutherland wins the seventh as again he gets Essett along the ropes and punishes him with hooks and uppercuts. Great eighth round but it is Essett who now has Sutherland on the ropes as a right uppercut early in the round put Sutherland on the defensive. Sutherland has a huge ninth round as he drops Essett for a flash knockdown at the bell. Both men are exhausted as the round concludes. Instead of laying back Sutherland is going out for the kayo as the round begins and almost gets it when a straight right hand hurts Essett badly who goes into a shell for the final 1:30. To the scorecards. 98-94, 97-94 and 97-93 all for Murray Sutherland. Big win for Sutherland who should move up in the rankings with this victory.

#3 Chong-Pal Park (18-0-0-4) vs #6 In-Chul Baek (17-1-0-15)
APBC Super Middleweight Championship

The pre-prime boxing Park and the prime slugging Baek are in great shape for this 12 rounder. Both men are in action for the first time this year. Baek is a slight 2-1 favorite coming into the bout.

Park wins the first as he uses the jab to make Baek miss and counter beautifully. Baek has a huge second round as he is not missing in this round, he seems to be landing everything he is throwing. Park battles back towards the end of the round with some nice counter right hands. What a fight both men stand and trade in the third and it is Park who is getting the better of it as he lands some incredible combos. Wow! Early in the third a Park right hook drops Baek for a nine count wasn't sure he was gonna beat the count but does. Park jumps on him and is raining crip clean blows when the ref jumps in to save Baek from further punishment. Great win for Park who pulls off the minor upset. Park remains unbeaten and is sure to be in the title picture for the initial title fights.

Keith Bristol (6-1-2-0) vs Thomas Jones (0-5-0-0)

Both fighters in shape for this 6 rounder, Bristol is a 3-1 favorite comning into this bout. Bristol with a great opening round as he drops Jones for a 5 count early in the round and follows up with some great combos but is unable to get Jones out of there. Jones bounces back nicely in the second as he matches Bristol punch for punch in some spirited exchanges. Bristol wins the second with a great jab and wicked right hands. Bristol wins the fourth as he continues to use an effective jab and also lands some great combos. Close fifth round as both men exhnage in close and Jones gives as good as he gets. Another close sixth round as Bristol started strongly landing a wicked right hand but it was Thomas who closed the show strongly with a great combo. To the scorecards 60-55 and 59-55 twice all for Keith Bristol.

Fight Card II

Jeff Harding (0-0-1-0) vs Charles Wakeling (1-3-0-0)

Harding looks to win his first pro bout as he was held to a draw back in January. Harding starts quickly and looks like he may get Wakeling out of there early as he dropped Wakeling with a wicked uppercut, but Wakeling is up at the count of nine. Harding drops Wakeling again in the second this time for a five count. Harding is looking good in the third when a Wakeling hook opens a cut over Hardings left eye. Wakeling wins the fourth with some brutal combos as Harding seems to be bothered by his cut. To the scorecards 39-35 across the board for Jeff Harding.

Dingan Thobela (1-0-0-0) vs Adao Rbio (0-5-2-0)

Thobela in action for the second time this year takes on TC Adao Rbio who has draws with Joe Lasisi and Ramzi Hassan. Thobela starts quickly as he is landing bombs on Rbio when 2:40 in a Thobela hook drops Rbio for a 1 count. Rbio manages to stay away and survive the round. Thobela controls the action in round 2 with some wicked hooks and uppercuts, Thobela draws two warnings once for striking with his shoulder and a low blow. Rbio wins the third as he is able to get inside and land some nice shots while Thobela is caught along the ropes. Rbio comes out in the fourth looking to take control but is floored for a three count when he misses a left hook and is countered by a Thobela cross. Thobela proceeds to get wild and is unable to capitalize on the opportunity and Rbio is actually winning the last part of the round. To the scorecards. 40-34, 40-36 and 39-35 all for Thobela. Thobela improves to 2-0

Alex Blanchard (10-5-0-9) vs David Lee Royster (13-11-0-2)

Both men looking to turn there career's around in this one. Both men are in great shape for this 6 rounder. Not much to choose from in the first as both men just circle each other throwing one punch at a time. Slight edge to Royster. Blanchard is warned for rabbit punching. Royster is on his bicycle in the second but this time Blanchard is able to get inside and land some great hooks to the body and closes the round strong with a great right hook. Royster wins the third as he continues to box but now is stopping and fighting then back on his bicycle. Blanchard looks confused as Royster is able to land some great punches. Close fourth round that is edged by Royster as he continues to pop the jab and keep Blanchard off balance. Blanchard is doing some great work as the round comes to a close. Blanchard starts well in the fifth but as the round progresses his work rate drops as he is looking tired. Royster takes advantage and lands some great combos towards the end of the round. Great final round as both men try to close the show and it is Royster who closes the show with a right hook that almost drops Blanchard. Blanchard fights back but cannot match Royster's work rate. To the scorecards. 59-55 twice and 59-56 all fro David Lee Royster. Nice win for Royster.

# 36 Miguel Angel Cuello (17-2-0-5) vs # 34 David Sears (14-1-0-8)

Both men are in great shape for this 8 rounder. Both men are seeing action for the first time in 1986. And both men are facing their toughest challenge to date. Sears wins the opening round convincingly as he is using his jab to set up wicked rights and hurts Cuello late in the first with a solid right hook. Cuello wins a close second round as he is able to get inside and land some sharp uppercuts. Sears draws a warning from referee Curtis Thrasher. For leaning on the neck of Cuello. Thrasher then deducts a point from Cuello for a low blow that didn't seem to land. What a third round both men just stand and slug and botrh men land some incredible punches. Slightest of edges to Sears. Sears has a huge fourth round as he is able to hurt Cuello with a straight right hand. Sears is landing jab hook combos as the round comes to a close. Cuello has some swelling under the left eye as the round concludes. Cuello battles back in the fifth as Sears is looking fatigued. Cuello hurts Sears late in the round with a right hook. Sears gets on his horse and remains upright for the remainder of the round. Round six may be the round of the year. Both men look spent as they get off their stools. And both men are just letting it all hang out. They take turns rocking eachother and stumbeling across the ring it is amazing neither man goes down as there are some heavy punches being landed. Edge to Cuello as he hurt Sears on a number of occasions here in the sixth. Sears left eye is also showing swelling as the round concludes. Cuello has a big seventh round as Sears looks worse for wear and is hurt again by a Cuello hook. Sears battles back and both mens eyes are a mess. To the eighth and final round. Both men touch gloves and we begin. Cuello lands a huge uppercut and Sears is rocked. A 1:30 in a Sears hook drops Cuello for a 6 count. Cuello struggles to rise to his feet and makes it to the end. Scores should be interesting. 76-75 Sears, 76-76 and 76-75 for the winner by majority decision David Sears. Knockdown late earned Sears the nod. Great fight.

#24 Mate Parlov (14-0-0-10) vs #28 Mark Tessman (20-2-1-6)

In this one we have the pre-prime Parlov taking on a prime Tessman. Both men are in action for the first time this year. Pretty close first round with both men going to the body effectively. Parlov with a great second round as he is landing jabs, hooks uppercuts, body blows he can't seem to miss. He does draw two warnings one for leaning on the neck another for hitting after the bell. Tessman wins the third as he is utilizing his jab and making Parlov miss and landing some wicked counters. Another round narrowly won by Tessman as he is landing some clean combos on the pressing Parlov. Tessman wins another round as he is just busier then Parlov who can't seem to get it going. Very slow sixth round only action is two warning one to Parlov for leaning on the neck and Tessman has a point deducted for a low blow. Jay Nady don't play one warning and bam lose a point. Tessman with a huge seventh round as midway thru the round he taunts Parlov dropping his hands to his sides and when Parlov comes forward Tessman uncoils a left right combo that rocks Parlov badly. Tessman follows it up nicely but cannot get Parlov out of there. Parlov comes out strong in the eighth with some great combos but quickly gives way to Tessman who is the fresher of the two and closes the round strongly with a beautiful right hook. Parlov wins the ninth as he just outworks Tessman who seems to be taking a round off. Parlov wins the tenth as again Tessman is content to give it away. Parlov lands some nice punches but nothing of significance. Scores 96-94 across the board for Mark Tessman. Nice win for Tessman.

#4 Lonnie Bennett (22-0-0-18) vs #6 Vonzell Johnson (22-0-2-14)

Bennett is in great shape for this 10 rounder, while Johnson may have overtrained. Both men are in action for the first time in 1986. Good action for the opening round. Johnson starts quickly but is topped dead in his tracks by a Bennett right hand right down the pipe. Bennett controls the remainder of the round with a great jab and solid combos. Johnson bounces back in the second is very effective countering Bennett's attempts to get inside with crisp uppercuts and solid hooks. A Johnson hook hurts Bennett in the final seconds of the frame. Bennett wins the third as it is his turn to rock Jonson with a devastating hook. Bennett tries to turn it up but Johnson manages to stay away. What a fourth round both men are staggered within the first minute of the round but it is Bennett who takes advantage and lands some punishing combos. Johnson takes the fifth as he unloads a series of combos that score flush on the jaw of Bennett. A clash of heads causes swelling under the left eye of Bennett. Bennett wins the sixth with some great infighting and a ferocious body attack. Bennett is shaking his right hand as the round closes. He now has to contend with a badly swollen left eye and an injured hand. What a seventh round both men look tired and just stand and trade bombs amazingly both men stand upto the barrage of punches. Bennett's eye is looking ugly. Eighth starts slowly until :54 in when a Johnson hook explodes on the chin of Bennett who is dropped and amazingly rises at 9. Johnson tries to close the show but is wild and Bennett is able to stay out of harms way and even rattles Johnson late with a counter hook. Bennett bounces back in the ninth as Johnson seems exhausted and is just outworked by Bennett who continues to rip Johnson's body. Johnson wins the tenth and final frame as both men started the round on the inside trading leather but Johnson moves outside to close out the fight and is landing some brutal 1,2 combos. Both men embrace as the round comes to a close. Scores should be close. 96-93 Johnson, 95-94 Bennett and 95-95 a draw. I can live with that decision. Both men remain undefeated.

Cruiserweight Bouts March 86

Derek Angol (0-0-0-0) vs Kieran Trafford (1-13-0-0)

Impressive debut by Angol. Boxed beautifully landing some bombs but never hurt Trafford. Scores 39-37 across the board.

Norbert Ekassi (0-0-0-0) vs Labib Yooku (0-5-0-0)

Great debut by Ekassi who scores a third round knockdown but is unable to finish Yooku. Scores 40-36 twice for Ekassi and 38-37 Yooku, Judge Wan-Soo Yuh of Korea needs to be investigated or tested for drugs.

Magne Havnaa (0-0-0-0) vs Oliver Oglnader (0-11-0-0)

Havnaa did not fight like a 4-1 favorite and is lucky to get away with a draw scores 38-38 twice and 39-37 Havnaa

Richard Mason (0-0-0-0) vs Denny Bowman (0-6-0-0)

Very impressive debut by Mason who easily dominated Bowman and the beating culminated with Bowman being counted out at 3:00 of the fourth round. Medical staff rushed to Bowman's side as he did not move after being counted out. Later reports came out that he was doing fine and admitted to a local hospital for observation.

#61 Tee Jay (12-4-2-0) vs #50 Spencer Chavis (13-3-0-3)

The pre-prime boxing Jay took this fight on short notice and may not be in the best of shape while the pre-prime slugging Chavis is in excellant shape for this 8 rounder. Chavis is looking to rebound from a 10 round split decision loss to TC Lee Howard while Jay looks to rebound from a fifth round knockout loss to TC Yunes Alami. Jay is a 3-1 favorite coming into this bout. Chavis wins the first with some great feints on atleast three occasions he feints to the body then unloads combos to the head. Chavis wins the second as this round he goes to the body and does some great work. Jay tries using the jab but seems a step slower then Chavis. Chavis takes another round as he is just sharper then Jay and is putting punches together nicely and showing a better defense then expected. Chavis takes the fourth as Jay seems to be fighting better from the outside but it is Chavis who moves inside and continues to rake Jay's body and land some great uppercuts. Jay looks spent as the fifth round begins and Chavis takes advantage and lands his cleanist punches of the fight some wicked combos. Chavis with a huge sixth round as a brutal right cross staggers Jay badly. Chavis pours it on and even though he lands some clean blows he can't put Jay down. Jay wins a round as Chavis seems tired and seems to have taken the round off. Hell of an eighth round Jay comes out knowing he needs a kayo and lands some bombs but Chavis fires right back and lands some wicked shots of his own. Both men are exhausted as the bell sounds ending the fight. To the scorecards. 79-73 twice and 77-75 all for Spencer Chavis. Nice win for Chavis who pulls off the minor upset. Would like to see how Chavis handles himself with someone who is prepared to fight. That's two losses in a row for Jay who needs to get himself together if he plans on having a better chance at winning the fights he should be winning.

#3 Andy Straughn (20-0-2-7) vs #4 Chisanda Mutti (25-0-0-13)

Both of these prime sluggers are in great shape for this 10 rounder. Straughn is a slight 2-1 favorite coming into this bout. Whoever wins is sure to set themselves up for an initial tile match later this year. Mutti wins the first with some impressive uppercuts. Straughn seems a little slow. Close second round as both men land some great uppercuts on the inside, slight edge to Mutti who seemed just a little busier. Mutti slearly wins the third as he again is just outlanding Straughn who is actually fighting a good fight but is just being outworked. Mutti wins another round as he continues to punish Straughn on the inside, this is the first round Straughn isn't competative, Straughn shows swelling over his right eye as the round concludes. Mutti takes the fifth as Straughn seems to have a hard time seeing the punches coming now and late in the round a Mutti hook rocks Straughn badly. Mutti has a huge sixth round as he drops Straughn late after dominating the round completely. Maybe time to save Straughn from firther punishment. Muttis wins another round as Straughn is just not able to land anything of substance. Straughn starts strong in the eighth but Mutti quickly turns that around with a wicked uppercut that almost drops Straughn instantly to his credit he remains upright. A close ninth round that Straughn may have pulled out with a late second rally. Very slow tenth that Mutti stakes as Straughn doesn't throw a punch. Scores a re a foregone conclusion 99-90 across the board for Mutti. Mutti keeps himself in the title hunt and is sure to be in an initial tile fight later this year
