dola,
Can’t believe I had to go to page 3 for this thread. I mean world champions and the best team in baseball.

I'm a little anxious about it. Except for McCarthy there hasn't been too much success with bringing up minor league pitchers to start games for the Sox lately. At least there is a great rotation behind Haegar so I'm not scared at all about Contreras being on the DL.

How did Haegar do? I've been swamped with end of semester stuff lately (just got done today) and haven't had a chance to check

I don't want to let Podsednik's 2-run HR to go un-noticed...

Don't forget that Pods missed most of March, so April was pretty much his spring training.
Oh, and remember how in 2001 the Sox wore those really sweet 1917 throwbacks every Sunday home game and always seemed to lose in them? Good looking as they were, I hope I never see the 1906 throwbacks again.

Seriously though the White Sox seem to go through stretches were they play pretty sloppy. Hopefully that won't be the theme for the whole year. I'll be at the game tonight and I'll be giving Frank a standing ovation on his return. Last edited by Unoriginal Name; 05-22-2006 at 03:15 PM. |

I will be there tomorrow night.
I will give him a stand o on his first trip to the plate. From then on I will only cheer him for every out he makes.

Some Cleveland Fans Show Class
Some Cleveland fans did an aboutface when they cheered for Thome in yesterday's game, while others continued to boo (after a resounding booing Thome received in his first game back earlier this season).
I guess some Cleveland fans saw how Sox fans gave Thomas a classy standing ovation last week. Thomas greeted us back with with 2 HRs. The Sox got the W. Thome greeted the Cleveland fans with 2 HRs. The Sox got the W. Hmmm...Karma. Note: Rowand received a standing ovation from the Phillies Fans on Saturday. According to a Phillies official, Rowand jerseys were the hottest among team merchadise over the last two weeks.

Not worried.
Starting pitching hasn't been great so far, but keep in mind the bullpen has been getting extra work because of the starting picthing's short outings (Vazquez' 115 pitches thrown in 6 1/3 innings this past Saturday). Williams and Guillen will adjust.
Case in point: Takatsu, Vizcaino, Marte. Hermanson took over Takatsu when Shingo was bad, and Jenks took over Dustin when he was hurt. Vizcaino and Marte were NEVER consistent. Cotts and Politte had different roles, which equated to a different mind set then what they have now in the pen. I hate the "it's a marathon" cliche for baseball. Chess is by far a better analogy. Guillen will not overwork his pitchers, and is laying the groundwork for September and the Playoffs. Yea, playoffs. I said it. Expect it. Not the “IF we make the playoffs”.

I'm not worried just yet. We'll see how we are by July.

Big series starts tonight. If the Sox can take two out of three from the Tigers it will go a long with easing some tension.

Thank goodness the Tigers started stinking at the same time the Sox did. I only wish Cleveland had done us the same courtesy last year, I would have slept better in September. |
