Is anyone planning on the structure of their new (fictional) baseball world yet? - Page 5

I'm hoping to bring either a MLB set up with real rosters and a College league and High School league added to it, or a Historical league set up in around the 1950's with the MLB, Negro League and/or also a Western Canadian League thrown into the mix. Whichever I decide on I will be making into a online league, at the moment I'm leaning towards Historical as it would be fewer GM's so be easier to control as it will be my first online league (commish wise).

For my first league, I'm going to create a regional league made up of cities in the county where I live (Santa Clara County, CA). I'll be using simplified financials and roster rules to get a feel for the game, since I've never played OOTP before. It turns out that my county has fifteen cities and towns so it'll make a little three division league quite nicely. These are the cities and divisions I'll be using. I haven't come up with team names yet.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY BASEBALL LEAGUE

Central Division

Saratoga
Cupertino
Sunnyvale
Santa Clara
Campbell

Southern Division

San Jose
Los Gatos
Morgan Hill
Gilroy
Monte Sereno

Northern Division

Milpitas
Los Altos Hills
Los Altos
Palo Alto
Mountain View

After I'm satisfied with running this league for awhile, I'm sure I'll start something international. And then later, knowing me, probably something science fictional.

If you need any help with the names you should ask on the boards, many of the OOTPers come up with some good names one of the best at this being Eugene Church. Or you could look up the history of each team name example being Saratoga went official in 1956 but there was a sawmill around there in 1848 so they could be called the Saratoga Woodsmen or Saratoga Sawmen.

I was planning to do something small (see rival leagues post), but now that many are planning huge leagues, I may do the same.
Included: Netherlands, Czech, Italy, England, US, Canada, and others.
I wonder how much memory is needed?
did it say anywhere?

Thanks for the advice, uk. I was planning on doing that (look up the history... actually did a little already... I hadn't known Los Altos Hills and Monte Sereno were officially their own towns), but I haven't really gotten around to it yet. Maybe this weekend.

I just posted a new thread that really belongs here. 20th century league, recruiting for a 100 year replay of mlb, using new arod/garlon db so we include egro leaguers and give back lost years to players who served in armed forces in wartime.

In reading these posts, an idea jumped out at me that will require a ton of work. How bout creating a database of big league players at an early age. start them out in little league, follow them thru high school, college and into organnized ball.

That way we can have a league setup starting at these levels. I would think to limit number of teams to just allow real prospects to play so as to avoid 5000 teams.

A serious challenge to DB makers I know, but have faith in you all. Likely have to be a combined effort to spread the work load.
How bout a mod to regress their ages???

I sort of have a plan. 3 leagues planned out. All just standard 30-team league. Explained as I go.

The first is based off the rosters from a 1975 Street & Smith baseball book my dad gave me. That is 24 teams. I'll explain what I will do with the 6 not-yet in existance as of 1975 teams in a minute.

The second is made from the rosters that Sports Weekly had in their paper just prior to spring training. I am taking the 40-man and Non-rosters of that then taking away those players who went to WBC. (some teams are gonna get really hurt by that.) Anyway....

The third is a bit complicated; the 16-team NL will be the rosters of the WBC. The AL plus the 6-teams from the first league will be made up of miscellaneous players. Basically a combo of past players, players I played for/against in High school, and a few made-up players.

Not sure how everything will work in the game but my plan is to have a 30-man roster. 25 players on active. The other 5 in minors as a sort of "reserve taxi squad". (Probably) No trades, play with what you got, No roster changes (barring injury) except for after Sunday's games then you can rosters can be moved for the next week. Havent planned for after 1st season. Probably will go with a "business back to normal approach".

Probably stupid. But heck. Might as well have fun with it.

Okay, finally came up with some team names and stadium names for my league. I think I'll head over to the graphics forum and see if anyone might be interested in making some logos for me. (I have no graphic talent whatsoever and envy those who do.) BTW, guess which team I'm going to manage? lol.

Has anyone figured out how easy it will be to move teams from one league to another, or at least from one "sub-league" to another, so that people can manually use promotion/relegation.

On a side note, I can't believe I'm actually interested in doing this, I was one of the main proponents AGAINST this at first.

Just so you know, your league has 15 teams. The game will not be able to generate schedules for leagues containing an odd number of teams.

To get the alignment you're looking for, you'll either have to create it as a 14 team league, generate the schedule, and then expand it to 15 teams, or create it as a 16 team league, generate the schedule, and then delete a team. After following either method, delete the game-generated schedule and either find or create yourself a schedule specifically made for a 15 team league and then import that schedule into the game.

Oh, carp! I'd forgotten about that! Thank you for pointing it out, though, LGO. I'll probably add or delete a team though, rather than going through all that. Add one, I guess. Hmm, I'll have to think a bit.

I guess I'll add the Monta Vista Matadors to the Central Division. Monta Vista is technically a neighborhood of Cupertino, not a town of its own, though it has a character all its own. I also graduated from Monta Vista High School, whose teams were the Matadors, so I have a soft spot for the area.

Heh. I don't think I'll actually be starting my league tomorrow yet. I'm going to do a few test leagues first to get a feel for the game. I want to make sure I get my league right.
